This new model is an upgraded model of the recently introduced Samsung i5 digital camera. Some unofficial specifications: the tiny and stylish Samsung Digimax i50 MP3 has a built-in 3x optical zoom lens and a Secure Digital memory slot. The design is eye-catching and the model offers, like other competitive models, a large 2.5-inch LCD screen. The Samsung i50 MP3 has some nice innovations hidden like a Safety flash function which will contribute to more blur-free photographs. The Samsung Digimax i50 MP3 can make videos in VGA resolution.

Samsung i50 MP3 - Multimedia
The video mode records with an image rate of 30 frames per second, thanks to MPEG-4, which uses less storage on Secure Digital cards and MultiMedia Cards. The 1.7cm flat Samsung Digimax i50 MP3 features a 3x optical zoom (39-117 mm, equivalent of a 35mm camera) with a bright F3.5-4.5 lens, a 5 Megapixel CCD image sensor and on-board elec- tronics fully packed with functions. A this moment the amount of internal memory is not clear, but if it the same as the Digimax i5 we are talking about 50MB!

Samsung - Safety Flash function
The Samsung Digimax i50 MP3 can not only take photographs with a resolution up to 2.592x1.944 pixels, but also features Samsung's new developed Safety Flash function, which protects the image from blurring and gives the photograph a natural lighting effect. With other digital cameras the inexperienced photographer mostly stands for a critical choice: he risks blurring, by using critical exposure times to create a natural lighting effect, or he doesn't; which will result in less natural lighting effects. The Safety Flash function combines blurring security and natural lighting effect thanks to a double exposure use. The Digimax i50 digital camera first "freezes" the picture with a fast shutter speed, and then captures the natural environment light with relatively slower exposure. When using the Safety Flash function, flash will not be used, this prevents the risk of red eyes.

Samsung Digimax i50 - Functions and Features
Further features and functions of the Samsung Digimax i50 MP3 include a large 2.5" colour LCD screen, with a resolution of 230.000 pixels, a whole set of scene modes (e.g. for images of children or fireworks), various filter effects (B/W, Sepia, colour effects) and editing functions (cut/turn/decrease images), an auto focus with macro and super macro function (minimum distance: 1cm), various white balance settings (automatic, pre-setting, manual), adjustable ISO sensitivity settings (automatic or manual to ISO 400) and a housing made of high quality aluminum.

Samsung Digimax i5 Digital Camera Review

Samsung Digimax i5 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

Features:

Transfers photos via USB; compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems; rechargeable Li-ion battery

5.0-megapixel sensor captures enough detail for photo-quality 13 x 17-inch prints

3x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom; safety flash for enhanced image clarity and color

2.5-inch LCD screen and high quality MPEG4 movie recording

Store images on 50 MB of available internal flash memory or with SD/MMC memory card slot

Product Description

Manufacturer Description
The Digimax i5 achieves clearer image quality by integrating the 3x optical zoom capability with Samsung's exclusive SHD lens technology, recognized throughout the world.

Manufacturer Description
The Pro 815 enables you to handle any shooting condition and situation, and demonstrates all the technologies of Samsung Techwin, the leading camera manufacturer in Korea. The release of the Pro 815 provides evidence that Korean digital camera designs are equivalent to or better than Japan's in terms of technology. The Pro 815 employs the world's best 15x optical zoom, the world's largest 3.5-inch LCD, the world's first top-of-camera LCD, and a Li-Ion battery with the world's largest capacity (as of fall 2005).
The world's longest built in zoom, 8-megapixel high-specification digital camera
The Pro815 equipped with a 15x optical zoom with a focal length of 28 to 420mm (35mm equivalent), this means you can shoot from wide angle to telephoto with one lens. Normally it is not possible to incorporate both 28mm wide-angle and 420mm tele-zoom capabilities in a average high-end camera, since they generally only come with a 7 to 8x zoom, With SLR systems, different lenses need to be switched to shoot wide-angle and ultra high zoom pictures, this means carrying lots of equipment, missing some shots due to lens changeover, and buying multiple lenses. The Pro815 has four low-dispersion glass lenses specially manufactured to minimize chromatic aberration that can occur when wide-angle and ultra high zoom are supported at the same time. In addition it employs two aspherical lenses for the correction of spherical aberration and lateral colors for the entire zoom range from wide to tele. This world-renowned Schneider-Kreuznach lens offers outstanding reliability.

A high-powered built in flash
The Pro815 is equipped with a high-powered built in flash to let you obtain a perfectly exposed picture even in dark environments. The Pro815 not only has a powerful flash that allows shooting at up to 7.7 meters (wide settings) but can also control an external flash depending on the surrounding exposure environment.

Professional manual photography features
The Pro815 offers comprehensive manual photography features that should meet all the needs of aspiring photographers. Manual exposure (Aperture/Shutter/Manual) and manual focus control features are included as standard. Three rings surrounding the lens controls manual zoom, manual focusing and EV compensation, providing you with the direct control of manual operations. The dual jog system, which is used to control aperture and shutter speed, also delivers precision in manual operation. The camera has various focusing modes including AF Lock, Continuous AF, and Select Area AF. Its direct manual focusing feature lets you switch to manual focusing from AF instantly by turning the manual focus ring. In addition, bracketed shooting is allowed for exposure, focus, and white balance. In particular, which balance is available in Preset, Custom, and Color Temperature Adjust modes. This lets you express colors exactly as you want. Contrast and saturation can also be controlled for creative expression in the depth of color required. The camera support Adobe RGB Color Space as well as an 8-megapixel non-compressed RAW file, making it the perfect choice for enthusiast image output.

The fastest response time in its class
The Pro815 achieves the fastest response times in its class. Its start-up and shot-to-shot speeds have been reduced to one second each, and it delivers a fast AF speed even in tele-zoom mode by utilizing a passive AF sensor. The shutter release lag of 0.05 seconds lets you capture those shots without fail. It also allows you to shoot subjects moving at high speed by offering shutter speeds up to 1/4,000 second. Pro815 includes high-speed continuous shooting at 2.5 frames per second, normal continuous shooting that lets you shoot while viewing an image taken on the LCD, and ultra high speed continuous shooting that allows you to shoot up to 10 1-megapixel-sized images per second. As it has high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity, images taken can be transferred to a PC quickly.

The world's first top TFT LCD for waist-level shooting (1.44-inch wide view)
Another great feature of the Pro815 is waist-level shooting, enabled by its top LCD. The 1.44-inch wide color TFT LCD of the Pro815 displays a preview screen in real time, allowing the waist-level shooting style often adopted by professional photographers. This LCD position enables high-level shooting as well as taking pictures from various angels. The top LCD can also be used as a status LCD to display shooting information. Since the required information is available on the LCD at all times, you can shoot a subject of choose a desired function more quickly.

The World's largest digital camera LCD
Another feature of the Pro815 is that it has the world's largest 3.5-inch RFT LCD used in a digital camera. Conventional high-end or SLR cameras use a relatively small 1.8- to 2.0-inch LCD and the screen does not show the shot at the point of taking the picture. With the Pro815, anybody can easily take a picture and view images through its large LCD. The large LCD is also a real benefit for better composition. By using Transmissive with Micro Reflective (TMR) technology, you can share your images with other people because the viewing angle is wide and the colors are well reproduced. There is also an electronic viewfinder.

What's in the Box:
Digital camera, user manual, warranty card, camera strap, software CD, 64MB CompactFlash card, lens adapter, lens hood, lens cap, AC cord, battery charger, SLB-1974 rechargeable lithium-ion battery, USB cable, AV cable.

In combining these sensors with a Samsung High-Definition (SHD) lens, these cameras deliver fantastic image quality.
Users are presented with 10 different Scene modes (Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach and Snow, and Text) from which to choose to create the perfect shot. For the more creative user there is also the choice of aperture priority, shutter priority, and fully manual shooting modes. The 4-centimeter macro setting allows for extreme close-up photography for those wishing to explore the artistic properties of surfaces, textures, and other subject matter.

These 'A' range Digimax cameras also feature an innovative Power Movie Clip function that allows users to shoot high quality VGA movie clips. Power Movie Clip provides flexibility and creative control in allowing the user to shoot at either 30 or 15 frames per second of VGA quality video.

In addition, the camera enables users to shoot and store movie clips in different sizes up to 640 x 480. Finally, the Power Movie Clip offers the ability to pause, fast forward, and/or rewind the video right on the cameras.

In keeping with the theme of flexibility and control, Samsung has provided users with a myriad of options for capturing, storing, and sharing images with the Digimax A5. The 16MB of internal memory facilitates ample storage right on the cameras themselves, while the SD/MMC slot allows for an additional 512MB of capacity.

Samsung clearly had the user in mind when designing the new A5, as the digital cameras come equipped with a wide range of features that make them a snap to use. It all begins with the highly intuitive user interface, which facilitates easy access to the vast array of advanced functions and capabilities contained within the cameras. The large, bright 1.8-inch LCD displays make it easy to view the subject during capture and playback, while an innovative new feature allows users to switch between capture and playback modes with just a single touch of the shutter button. The camera also includes a one-touch manual function button that allows more advanced users to quickly and easily switch between manual, aperture priority, and shutter priority modes.

The A5's image editing capabilities enable cropping, rotating, and color revisions right on the camera. With black and white, sepia, and RGB color effects to choose from, the creative possibilities are endless. In addition, the bright, multi-function pilot lamp on the front of the camera body communicates camera status to the user and the subject by displaying a different color to denote the specific function being performed (taking a picture, self timer, image upload, voice recording, etc.).

Another user-friendly feature of the Digimax A5 is its compatibility with three different power sources. Samsung designed these cameras to support three different power sources, including two rechargeable formats (Li-ion and Ni-MH) as well as standard AAs. The Samsung Li-ion battery--the I-Pack--provides enough power for roughly 290 shots, while the Samsung Ni-MH enables users to capture up to 350 images. If that is not enough, users can simply run to the local convenience store to pick up some AA batteries for additional backup.

Other Description
Developed for "point and shoot" photographers looking for a solid camera with a full range of features, the Digimax A5 combines a 5 mega-pixel CCD sensor with a Samsung High-Definition (SHD) lens, to deliver fantastic image quality. The A5 is straightforward to use, equipped with an easily accessible wide range of features. It all begins with the highly intuitive user interface, which facilitates quick access to its advanced functions and capabilities. The large, bright 1.8" LCD display makes it easy to view the subject during capture and playback, while an innovative new feature allows users to switch between capture and playback modes with just a single touch of the shutter button. The digital cameras also include a one-touch manual function button that allows more advanced users to quickly and easily switch between fully manual, aperture priority and shutter priority modes. The A5's image editing capabilities enable cropping, rotating and color revisions on the camera. With black & white, sepia and RGB color effects to choose from, the creative possibilities are endless. In addition, the bright, multi-function pilot lamp on the front of the camera body communicates the camera status to the user and the subject by displaying a different color to denote the specific function being performed (taking a picture, self timer, image upload, voice recording, etc). The Digimax A5 is also compatible with three different power sources - including two rechargeable formats (Li-ion and Ni-MH) as well as standard AAs. The Samsung Li-ion battery, I-Pack, provides enough power for roughly 290 shots, while the Samsung Ni-MH enables users to capture up to 350 images. Users can also pick up standard AA batteries for any additional backup.

Samsung Digimax V6 Digital Camera Review

SAMSUNG INTRODUCES THE V6, ITS MOST POWERFUL DIGITAL CAMERA TO DATE

Building on previous success, Samsung Cameras introduces its most powerful camera ever to the acclaimed V range, the V6.

Developed with the more demanding photographer in mind, where high definition shooting is required, it features 6 megapixels in a stylish aluminum design and is set to retail at a well under £300.

The Samsung Digimax V6 provides more enhanced manual photograph functions for advanced users who expect true professional quality photography. Coupled with the on camera trimming function this means you can get the shot you want without using a PC. The Digimax V70 has 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 38mm –114mm in 35mm format) and a further 5x digital zoom to give 15x total zoom. In addition, the Digimax V70 uses a Schneider Kreuznach lens, recognised throughout the world as being one of the leading quality lenses available, producing crystal clear images. The 2-inch, 117,00 pixels, LCD screen may be rotated up to 270 degrees enabling users to photograph themselves or to get great shots from new and different angles.

Also, the screen can be rotated to adjust the LCD visibility when in bright light conditions. The Digimax V70 uses MPEG-4, a high-compression, high-quality movie clip file format, which can record up to 3 or 4 times longer than MJPEG, the usual format for DSC movie clips. The Digimax V70 can even be used as a camcorder since it supports more than 1 hour of video and audio recording time if you are using a 256MB memory card. The movies can then be played back at TV quality as the Digimax V70 can process movies at up to 30 frames per second. The length of the clip is only restricted by the amount of memory available. The movies can then be edited using a special edition of VideoImpression software included in the box.

For more advanced users, the Digimax V70 also has manual picture-taking functions. The camera has detailed focus control with Manual Focusing. It also enables manual control of exposure using Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and fully manual options. Exposure may be controlled by the easy to use Jog Dial in conjunction with an AE Lock function.

The user can also choose from 10 preset types of Scene modes (Portrait / Children / Landscape / Close-up / Sunset / Dawn / Backlight / Fireworks / Beach&Snow / Text). Text mode is a new feature setting the Digimax V70 to shoot documents like books, magazines, and newspapers. Users can save the image file that is captured in Text mode, as a text or .doc file using the Digimax Reader software, also included.

The Digimax V70 can use 9 kinds of power supply using the unique technology of Samsung. These various types of power supply means that the user never has to worry about running out of power. The exclusive 1400mAh Li-ion battery enables users to take up to 440 images on one charge. This feature provides greater flexibility for photographers who use the continuous or burst modes.

You can get as close as 4cm using the Digimax V70 macro (close-up) function. By employing a high precision lens design and processing technology, the Digimax V70 is capable of accurate focus control even when taking macro shots. In addition, the Digimax V70 has an optional wide-angle conversion lens and telephoto conversion lens. The optional conversion lens and adapter can be mounted onto the Digimax V70 for a wider range of picture taking opportunities. The wide-angle conversion lens widens the view up to the equivalent of 27mm, enabling picture-taking for subjects as close as 1cm (normal minimum focusing ranges : 4cm~). The telephoto conversion lens increases the optical zoom from 3x to 5.1x enabling a total zoom capability of up to 25x, when combined with the digital zoom.

The Digimax V70 has an RGB Colour Effect control menu. It has two completely separate imagers, electronics and zoom lenses. Most of the other 'hybrid' cameras use a common imager and lens and don't really do all that well at capturing high resolution still images. The DuoCam has a 680K pixel CCD imager for the camcorder side along with a 10x optical zoom lens and stores MPEG4 encoded video on standard MiniDV cassette tapes. And it has a 4-megapixel CCD imager for the digicam side combined with a larger diameter 3x optical zoom lens. High resolution still images and MPEG4 video is saved directly to digital media - Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Secure Digital or MMC type flash cards can be used.

The SC-D6040 is the NTSC model, there is also a PAL version available for other parts of the world. The camcorder side of the DuoCam is fully featured with control over shutter speeds, focus, white balance and exposure. There are also nine digital special effects available, a 16:9 letterbox mode, still photo capture mode and a 0 Lux "Power Nite Pix" mode if you're a fan of green-tinted video. There's a fast IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port for IN/OUT transfer of digital video and sound and the camera has an external microphone jack.

You can frame your video or still images with either the color electronic viewfinder or the large, 2.5-inch color LCD monitor which flips out 90° and rotates about 270°. Still images can be captured in 4MP, 3MP, 2MP, 0.8MP or VGA resolutions in three different JPEG quality levels or uncompressed TIFF format. The user can select from Program, Scene (10 modes), Shutter-speed priority, Aperture priority, Manual, MySet (3 custom modes) or Movie (QVGA 30fps MPEG4) mode. There are adjustments for white balance, sharpness, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity and color effects. The data I/O for the digicam side is handled via a high-speed USB 2.0 port that is PictBridge compatible for direct printing.

The DuoCam is powered by a proprietary Li-ion rechargeable battery that provides for approximately 90 minutes of recording time per charge. A larger battery can be used that extends the recording time to about three hours.

SC-D6040 Features:

Hybrid MiniDV camcorder and Digital Still Camera all-in-one

4-megapixel CCD captures up to 2272x1704 pixel still images

680K pixel CCD for camcorder video capture to 3 Lux

0 Lux Power Nite Pix option for camcorder

3x Optical Zoom for digicam / 10x Optical Zoom for camcorder

Large, 2.5-inch color LCD monitor with 123,000 pixels

Color eyelevel electronic viewfinder

Compact (2.5 x 3.5 x 5.5 in.) size and lightweight (1.1 lb.)

JPEG and TIFF still image digicam modes

MPEG4 video capture / 320x240 @ 30fps/15fps on digicam side

Auto, Scene, Shutter-speed priority, Aperture priority, Manual, EasyQ, Custom Set modes

Multi and spot exposure metering modes

Single, Continuous and AE Bracketing drive modes

Image adjustments for color effects and sharpness

ISO Sensitivity: Auto, 50, 100, 200, 400 equivalents

Auto pop-up type flash for still images

MS/MS Pro/SD/MMC multi-card memory slot for digicam

60-minute MiniDV tape cassette storage for camcorder

Powered by rechargeable Li-ion battery, optional larger battery

I/O ports: USB 2.0 for digicam / IEEE 1394 for camcorder

PictBridge direct USB print compatible

Fully featured wireless remote controller

Samsung Digimax V4 Digital Camera Review

Samsung Digimax V4 4MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

The Samsung Digimax V4 is a palm-sized (4.2 x 2.2 x 1.5 inch) four-megapixel digital camera that features a superior Schneider multi-coated 3x optical zoom lens for clear and natural looking pictures. To cover even more ground, the A55W also offers a 5x digital zoom, achieving a total zoom of 24x when combined with the camera's optical zoom capability.
Simple but elegant exterior design

The exterior design of the Digimax A55W is simple compared to other digital cameras. The location of the Power button near the part where a user grips the camera simplifies the button arrangement, which can be easily complex in regular digital cameras. Due to the location advantage, you can turn-on the power very easily and quickly while gripping the camera. The button arrangement makes the image of this digital camera more elegant and stylish.

2.5-inch large TFT LCD with 200,000-pixel high resolution
The Digimax A55W employs a high resolution large LCD so you can take pictures whilst viewing subjects via the clear and large screen. The large LCD makes this camera a perfect substitute for a camcorder particularly for users who frequently use movie functions. The 200,000-pixel high-resolution TFT LCD will give you satisfaction when shooting and playing images.

Small pocket-sized body with stable grip
Various and complex digital camera functions make regular users who are not familiar with camera functions uncomfortable when using a camera. The Digimax A55W provides convenient function and setting buttons that can be used simply and easily with just one hand. In addition, this small pocket sized body enables you to firmly grip the digital camera. Thus, you can easily operate camera buttons in any situation.

From 28mm super-wide-angle to 135mm super telephoto
Whilst regular digital camera users take pictures, they usually change the camera lens from the basic 35mm lens angle of view to a wider angle telephoto lens. The reason is that you may obtain different images with the same subjects depending on the angle of view of a lens. The broad and extensive surroundings provided by the angle of view of a wide angle lens are emphasized via a 28mm angle of view thus expressing images with more enriched colors. The images provided by the angle of view of a telephoto lens are emphasized via a 135mm angle of view. Experience the various expressions of a 4.8x optical zoom super wide angle lens equivalent to 28mm to 135mm in 35mm format and of super telephoto lens.

Auto macro mode and 2-centimeter super close-up mode
Auto Macro of the Digimax A55W is one of the functions aimed at user convenience. In Auto Macro, the camera automatically sets the focus when you take shots at very short distances. These days, many people like taking such pictures. When you take pictures of yourself, the images are sometimes blurred because the distance between a digital camera and yourself is so close. In addition, when you take pictures of many subjects like flowers while not setting the Macro mode, the images taken are sometimes not clear. However, the Digimax A55W automatically sets the Macro function for the subject that is located at very short distances without requiring manual setting of the Macro function.

Exposure compensation function and autoexposure bracketing function
In PROG mode, you can change the brightness of an image depending on the situation. Through the exposure compensation function, you can shoot images with different brightness as you want or under specific exposure conditions such as backlight, obtaining thus clearer images.

Frequent users of digital cameras may know the AEB function. The Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) function is suitable for situations when optimal exposure is difficult to achieve. You can take a picture with normal exposure, a darker picture, and a brighter picture, simultaneously. Under the situation where shooting is difficult with normal exposure settings, you can take pictures by selecting the brightness of an image through this function.

Scene modesPressing the shutter button is not all it takes to get pictures or create perfect images. The fact is applied to all digital cameras from for advanced users to those of normal users. According to light conditions, a flash should be used. According to your desired expression, the shutter and aperture should be controlled.

Thus, different pictures are taken in the same place with the use of flash, shutter, or aperture. For handling this problem, general digital cameras for beginners provide Scene modes. Basic information on each shooting situation is saved in the Digimax A55W and is applied when taking pictures. You can set a shooting mode very easily with the touch of a button. The Digimax A55W provides 11 Scene modes so that everyone can take pictures in various ways like advance users.

Various special effects make shooting more fun
The Digimax A55W provides special effects beyond typical shooting methods so that you can spend more exciting time shooting and viewing images. The special effects include color Effect and Photo Frame. Through the color Effect function, you can express images in black and white, sepia, blue, red, green, or film color. Through the Photo Frame function, you can add frame-like borders (this camera supports 9 types of frames) to a still image. Thus, you can have more fun viewing and shooting images.

Convenient storage with built-in memory
The Digimax A55W provides a built-in memory so that you can take and save pictures without a memory card. In addition, this camera provides the Copy to Copy function that allows you to send images saved in an internal memory to an external memory. Thus, you will not be embarrassed when you do not have a memory card for a digital camera whilst taking pictures during travel or a family event.

Movie recording and play function in VGA
For clearer sharper movies, this camera uses a high compression, high quality movie clip format, and movie clips are supported in VGA (640 x 480) at 30 frames per second. In VGA (640 x 480), you can play a movie clip on your TV without any degradation of image quality, and enjoy it in a screen size twice as large as a computer screen. Because this digital camera supports up to 30 frames per second, you can view a smooth movie with natural-looking colors. You can record voice and movies for as long as the available recording time in the memory allows. In addition, you can extract desired frames from the recorded movie. The above features make this digital camera a perfect substitute for a camcorder.

Camera shake prevention
The Digimax A55W provides a camera shake prevention function to avoid camera shake during movie recording. This function detects camera shake automatically and traces the target subject when recording a movie. With the movie function making this digital camera a perfect substitute for a small digital camcorder, the Digimax A55W is very useful to take pictures of family events or your normal life.

Successive recording function
In terms of existing movie recording functions, users have difficulty editing recorded movies. The Digimax A55W implements part of editing functions of a computer and the successive recording function developed through Samsung's own technology that enables you to temporarily stop during unwanted scenes and resume recording the movie. Using this function, you can record your favorite scenes into a movie clip without having to create multiple movie clips. Those implementations enable users to use recording movie functions easily and conveniently.

The Digimax A55W implements part of the editing function only available in a computer. You can select and cut the desired part from the recorded movie and save it by creating a new file so that you can use this camera more conveniently when editing a movie clip. You may want to save desired scenes while recording a movie with a digital camera. The Digimax A55W reflects the requirement so that you can capture a scene from the movie clip. When you don't take pictures while recording a movie, you can extract desired frames from the recorded movie.

PictBridge (Direct Printing System)
You can use a USB cable to connect this camera to a printer without a PC, and select paper types and sizes supported by the printer from a menu in the camera. Through the LCD of the camera, you can check the printer's progress status. The Digimax V800 also boasts a large 2.5-inch color LCD (approximately 230K pixels), providing the shooter with a clearer and brighter viewing area.

Fast operation
Faster in operational speed than its sibling the Digimax V700, the V800 features faster booting and shot-to-shot speed for instant photography; shooters can take images as soon as the power is turned on. Because the high-speed shot-to-shot capability allows continuous high-speed shooting, users can rest assured that they will be able to capture their shots without missing any of the action.

MPEG4 movie mode
For enhanced movie-shooting, the V800 supports MPEG-4 video compression, providing recording times which are three to four times longer than conventional digital cameras. The V800 has the ability to capture movie clips in VGA (640 x 480) at 30 frames per second, and also boasts a movie clip stabilizer for video recording. Through automatic detection and correction of lateral and vertical camera movement caused by the shooter's unsteady hand, the recording of the subject itself is kept steady. The camera also features movie-clip editing functions, which were previously only possible with the use of a PC. Users can now make better videos with options such as the ability to select a part of a movie clip for saving during playback as well as the ability to select part of a movie clip to be saved as a still image--all performed right on the camera. The enhanced movie mode options don't stop there: the V800 features successive video recording based on unique Samsung technology. With successive recording, shooters can pause and resume video recording at any time and merge multiple video files into one single file.

Special effects
The Digimax V800 also features special effect functions that add a new level of creativity to the digital photography experience. The special effect modes are Color Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame, and Composite Shot. Color Effects include black and white, sepia, blue, red, and green, and Highlight, which enables you to emphasize a subject by putting its surroundings into soft focus. Composite Shot allows you to divide a shooting scene into two to four segments and save them into a single file while Photo Frame allows you choose from nine different types frames to add to an existing image.

Manual controls
For the advanced shooter looking for additional control, the Digimax V800 features powerful manual functions. Three kinds of manual exposure adjustment such as Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual adjustment, as well as Manual Focus are available. In particular, exposure can be easily adjusted using the jog dial located on the top of the camera.

Auto Exposure Bracketing
Furthermore, an Auto Exposure Lock function enables you to configure a scene and set exposure as required. The Digimax V800 has Continuous Shooting, Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB), and Auto Focus Bracketing (AFB) functions. Continuous Shooting helps catch all the action by taking consecutive shots, AEB shoots a series of pictures with slightly different exposures, and AFB takes shots which focus on different elements of the frame. With its Auto Macro function, the V800 automatically adjusts the shooting distance and focus from 4-centimeter to infinity, obtaining crystal clear images regardless of their shooting range.

2.5-inch LCD
For even more exposure control, the Digimax V800 provides a histogram showing a variety of shooting information, including brightness and contrast, to help the shooter adjust exposure seamlessly. The histogram, which is displayed on the camera's 2.5-inch LCD in real time, enables easier aperture control as well as verification of picture quality upon shooting, all helping the user capture better pictures with accurate exposure adjustments.

Scene modes
The V800 also features eleven scene modes applicable for a number of shooting environments. The scene modes include Night Scene, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach and Snow, and Text Recognition. In particular, Text Recognition is a feature that allows you to shoot documents such as books, papers, and magazines and then extract text from the image taken using the bundled "Digimax Reader" text recognition software.

Software
The Digimax V800 also comes with the all-in-one software Digimax Master 1.0. Digimax Master integrates the viewer, still image/movie editing, and editing functions into a single application. After saving pictures using the Auto Download feature (images automatically moved to your computer on connection), the user can run the Digimax Master application to edit the pictures in the way they want.

PictBridge
The V800 also offers PictBridge technology, allowing users to connect the camera directly to a printer by using the supplied USB cable and output images right from the camera's internal memory or SD card. The shooter can even use the "Quick Print" button to print a desired photo immediately. In addition, the V800 provides a substantially faster transfer rate with USB 2.0 as compared to commonly used USB 1.1.

Memory
The V800 takes advantage of the small form-factor of SD/MMC storage cards and is also equipped with 32 MB of built-in memory, which comes in handy when shooting without a memory card. Samsung, one of the world's largest manufacturers of everything from heavy industrial machinery to TFT screens, dishwashers, mobile phones and of course, cameras. Despite some success in the 35mm compact camera boom, Samsung's seemingly many, many attempts to crack the digital camera market have proved less successful (not helped by the fact that there are so many models in its range, many only available in certain parts of the world). So is the V700 - a direct competitor to models such as Canon's S70 and the Pentax 750Z - the camera to finally put Samsung firmly on the map as a serious contender? At first glance it certainly looks promising.

7.1 million effective pixels

3x Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan Zoom lens

4cm macro

Manual, program, aperture priority and shutter priority exposure modes

11 scene modes

2.0-inch TFT screen

30 fps, 640x480 MPEG-4 movie mode

3 color options (red, black, silver)

Exposure and focus bracketing

In-camera 'special effects'

Samsung Digimax V700 digital camera introduction:

For manufacturers, there is no better launch pad than the Consumer Electronics Show when it comes to introducing their hottest, most advanced electronics for the new year.
