Just bought the set yesterday, set it up and couldn't stop watching it. Added the LG Blue Ray DVD Player/Home Theater system (with IPod dock/remote, NetFlix Ethernet capability, etc.) and I feel like I'm in a movie theater. The functions and ease of use on both devices are great.

The only drawback I've noticed so far with the TV is with deleting channels from the autoscan selections - it takes several screen flips to remove each channel, but since I've only had the set one day, maybe I'm doing something wrong).

I've had this unit for just over 2 months now and I absolutely love it! I use it with my HTPC and the picture quality is phenomenal. I love being able to read my email from my recliner across the room. Setup was very easy. In fact, when it was delivered, the delivery guy had instructions to remain at the house until the unit was hooked up and working so that it could be sent back with him if there were any problems and I would not have to worry about shipping it. That was a first for me with an internet purchase. Can't really comment on the audio quality as I have a separate surround sound system. I have had this TV for a few weeks now. Actually it is my second. The first one delivered came with the backlight not working correctly. It would turn on/off flicker all the time.

I called Amazon and got referred to LG customer service. LG customer service after going through an unsuccessful over the phone troubleshoot attempt opened a case for repair. Called Amazon back, gave the LG case number, and got the TV promptly replaced (old one picked up when the new one was delivered).

The new TV works great with standard and HD programing (cable), up-scaled DVD and Blue Ray content. Media PC output- connected via HDMI is equally crisp and clear. Controls are simple and intuitive, would definitely buy again.

I am loving this TV. Great picture quality. You don't have to adjust color unless you want to but if you do there are many adjustments you can choose from. The only problem I have is that it doesn't fill out the entire screen unless you go in and zoom it but then it cuts out some of the picture. I have it set on adjust according to the program but only some shows fill out the screen. Just got this tv to replace an old one that broke and I love it. The picture is so amazingly realistic that when people on the screen start running it makes me dizzy :) The sound is awesome too. I have yet to actually set the television up so I cannot comment on picture quality, however, I can comment on a few features, or lack of, which disappointed me. First, as another reviewer mentioned it states a swivel base, yet the base does not swivel. In addition to that, the 19" viewable image apparently shrunk as the screen is only 18.5" Granted, a half of an inch is not a big deal but it is another fact which appears incorrectly in the description. Lastly, and this is the reason that I may in fact return the set, is when you look at the images, specifically the rear image and zoom in, you see two HDMI inputs, a fact which the description validates with the text 'HDMI inputs.' That image is not the back of this television, as it has only one HDMI input.

When I first saw the price of this TV (999.00) I wondered what was wrong with it. Nothing, as it turns out. I bought it because of the price and the brand. I have a 32 inch LG 1080 flat screen that I have had for 3 1/2 years (you don't want to know how much it cost). It worked perfectly out of the box and has never had service. That's a heck of an endorsement these days! One unique thing that sold me on the 47" LG50 was the height. It is taller than the other flat screens of similar size so you don't get that extreme horizontal picture. It's more like watching a movie theater screen ratio. Ever since I started buying Flat Screen TV's. Plasma and then finally LCD, LG has been the only brand that I have purchased. I am not saying that LG is the best but I think for the value, LG is the best fit for me. I did a lot of research on this unit before I purchased it. It was replacing an LG 42" Plasma 1080i/720p set I bought a few years back. It was still under warranty and the picture just went out. I got a check that covered about 90% of the purchase price for this unit. I bought this unit right when the LED TV's were coming out but I never buy anything first generation because I like to wait for the bugs to be ironed out before I spend that much money. This unit had everything I was looking for. 52", 120Hz. Multiple HDMI inputs and I really like LG's TrueMotion. It does take a little getting used to but I think it adds to the experience. I wished I would have waited for the 240 Hz unit but based upon what was available at the time, I feel like I got a gem. It has a fantastic picture and really dark blacks. I was worried because I heard LCD's don't render blacks as richly as Plasmas. I haven't noticed any issues with that. I've only had my set a couple of days. It arrived on time. I like the picture and the sound.I have a few problems with it but am hoping most of them will be resolved soon.
One big problem for me is that there is no analog audio output, only an Optical,which I had never heard of before. I'm a senior and depend on my wireless headphones and have only found out by trial and error that I will have to get optical headphones or an adapter for optical to analog. When I e-mailed the LG company, I was told it was in the specifications. There are several pages in Amazon'n description and maybe it is there but it must be pretty well hidden. In a 1100$ plus machine one would not expect the absence of such a basic feature. One would at least expect a warning that it is not there.
The channels don't change as quickly as they did on my old RCA
The on screen menus are somewhat complicated and difficult but I guess they will be easier with experience.
I hate having only a CD manual but the company has agreed to send me a printed one I'm hoping I made the right decision in buying this set and may write another report later after using it longer.

I purchased this unit because it has a built-in digital tuner, the ability to record Over-The-Air (OTA) broadcasts to VCR tape or DVD, and has the ability to playback both DVD and VCR tapes via the HDMI output. I rate the recorded DVD picture quality as good, however the VCR picture quality is poor. The VCR picture quality is worse than the SLP picture quality of a badly recorded analog VCR tape.

It is relatively easy to set the unit up and use it to record, however I recommend using the VR recording mode as opposed to the Video recording mode. The unit randomly stops recording when used in the Video mode to record OTA programs (especially The CW channel), regardless of the brand of DVDs used for the recording. The VR mode seems to ignore whatever causes the recording issue (see the Internet for discussions of copy-protected OTA and cable issues). If this is a glimpse of the future for consumer time-shift programming, my television watching will significantly be reduced because I time-shift all my TV programming.

The unit has all the features one needs to record and/or copy DVD/VCR media. The machines design is simplistic and functional. The channel edit function is especially intuitive to use. The ability to use the single HDMI output for DVD or tape allows the use of a single cable between the pre amp/receiver or television. SIMPLINK allows the unit to change to the active link when the unit is powered on, but this only works if you are connected to another LG device.

I noted the unit gets exceptionally warm during use. This makes me concerned about the longevity of the product however it has operated OK over the year I have owned it. In fact I was so pleased with it, I purchased additional units.

i bought my LG 42 plasma 3 YEARS AGO. the picture is fantastic! i see detail better than either of my brothers tvs. i have used it with over the air signals and with fios. the over the air is just a little better than fios but better than cable especially better than lcd. ONE problem, after three years, a board went out. lg sent out a service man and he said this board was a problem. (he said he had three of these tv's). i am going to put a small fan back behind the tv to decrease the heat, as i am a firm believer that heat kills electronics. (i worked in electronics for 30 + years) i think this will allow the tv to last much longer. i have the 42PCX or somethng like that, not the current model. fyi, i was planning on getting the panasonic 42 but after seeing the LG at home, i am so glad they were sold out!!

I bought this TV from sears a month back, and have no issues with it till date. picture quality is nice and so is the visual appearance. Didn't have glossy screen problems or burn in issues till now. But most importantly for me it was a great deal as I was able to buy this for ~$650.

I've had the LG 50PS80 for three days now. I really like the TV and believe it is well worth the price. In addition to a great design and noticeably good picture, this HDTV features NETCAST, which you can access with a high speed internet connection. This gives you entree to Netflix movies (with a subscription), and also the VUDU movie service -- without the need to buy and attach the boxes for those two services. Netflix in particular is a bargain because for less than $10 a month, you can stream all the movies you want from their instant queue (which has about 10,000). In addition, Netcast features Yahoo Widgets for quick access to weather and headline news. And there is also a feature for showing photographs and playing your music on the television.

The Netcast feature on the television also gives you access to YouTube, which was a big selling point for me. Unfortunately, YouTube on this TV is not nearly as flexible as YouTube on a computer. You cannot create playlists nor can you play a continuous loop of videos. Instead, you have to interact with the remote control to access each video from a list of favorites. Perhaps this will be rectified with a software update at a later time. In addition, there were a few glitches with the YouTube feature. If I scrolled through a list of videos too fast, it had a tendency to disconnect and return to the broadcast picture. This seems to have lessened over time. The television has all the usual inputs that you would expect from a high-end LG set, including 4 HDMI inputs. However, it has only one antenna input and it does not have a slot for a cable card. I'm not sure how many competing televisions have this shortcoming.

The sound system is very good on the television although likely not as good as that in the far more expensive Mitsubishi UNISEN sets. Still, I doubt that many people would be unhappy with the sound that emanates from this HDTV, among the best you can receive without attaching a home theater system. And the picture on some movies -- even some that were not in HD -- was out of this world. It provides a real cinematic experience. After doing some reading, I narrowed down my choices to two HDTVs: LG 47LH90 LED LCD and Panasonic P50V10 Plasma.

I have bought LG 47LH90 for $1299 from SEARS and Panasonic P50V10 Plasma for $1797 from [...] (sorry Amazon but your pricing is not competitive).

I like about LG 47LH90:

1. As all LCDs, it is energy efficient (uses 1/3 as much energy as plasma)
2. Very good black-levels, thanks to LED technology (but not as good as plasma)
3. Relatively lighter weight (less stress on my back than from the heavier plasma)

I do not like about LG 47LH90:

1. Very poor off-angle performance (plasma does not have this problem)
2. Because it uses LEDs, there is some annoying blooming (plasma does not have this problem)
3. Dejudder processing and antiblur functions cannot be separated (not a problem to watch sports, but not good if you want the best possible picture while watching DVDs)
4. 240Hz refresh rate improves the blurring in motion, but it does not fix it completely - there is still blurring in motion (plasma does not have this problem)

In short, in terms of picture quality, LG 47LH90 LED-LCD is a very good imitation of a plasma HDTV, but the technology is still lagging behind (not as good as plasma).

I replaced another brand with this set. The last brand had issues working with my pc. It was very fussy about settings for the display. With this set, everything is smooth. I was told LG's are well suited for use with pc's. I was hesitant, since this set was quite less expensive than the one it replaced. Well, the picture is just as good, and it certainly is more pc friendly. Can't comment on the sound. I don't listen to the TV speakers. 6 months and glitch free. It also has analog out,
which is a nice addition to the digital out. I like the remotes uncrowded layout. The power switch on the front of the TV is nice. I currently work for a clinic. My doctor purchased this TV on December 08, and we had a HUGE problem with the DVD player right now barely a year after purchasing it.

My boss wanted to be budget-friendly a little bit, so he thought this TV was well-bargained for under $600 with a DVD player attached. On top of that, we play DVDs only for the patients. (no cable or even satellite antennas) Little did he know, this DVD player was NOT built for marathon DVD playing AT ALL. It is loud just like everyone had suggested here in the review board. It takes some time to recognize the DVDs and eject them as well. If you play DVDs in our way (roughly 5 times a week, at least 8 hours of non-stop play time, you will come to the point where it does not eject the DVD anymore. Unable to eject the disc, the DVD player will re-insert the disc automatically and assume you want to play the disc again... A HUGE headache for all the office staffs and few of our long-term patients, who suffered from over-dosage of Planet Earth (you can Q&A me on ANY FRAME, I kid you not, within the episodes of "From Pole to Pole," "Mountains," and "Fresh Water" and I can tell you exactly what's going on there... matching the music theme on the back, and mimicking David Attenborough's narration at the same time...).

Another negative aspect is the viewing angle range of the screen. off-angles are pretty-dark... our patients ended up cluttering in the middle of the room to watch the TV, quite amusing but very inconvenient for all of them. Perhaps it would be better for a bedroom TV.

I have read the entire manual and found NONE of the troubleshoot problems are related to the DVD player, which is how they hide their little secrets of this incompetent freebie. We are facing a potential charge of more than 200 dollars to fix this little thing. It could have been more budget-friendly if we purchase these two separately.
