Ugh, I remember this feeling. The Giants are once again an excruciating, exhausting team to watch. They have been for most of my lifetime, yet somehow, they put it all together at the end of the 2007 season. They won the Superbowl, beat an undefeated team, and even carried that momentum into the majority of the following season, but overall this has never been a team that handles prosperity well.

The Giants conservative approach on offense is becoming more and more frustrating to watch. They have to play the perfect game now in order to win against decent/good teams. Even the Dallas win this year required a flawless performance from Eli to eek out a win against a team that commited at least 4 turnovers.

I believe Coughlin and the rest of his staff need to shift their overall philosophy in several areas. They overemphasize the importance of controlling and possessing the ball. They win the turnover battle almost every game, they run the ball a ton, and they ALWAYS dominate time of possession. Is this team capable of scoring quickly on offense? I thought they had shown in the first few weeks that they were a dangerous passing team, but watching them take nearly 11 minutes to piece together a touchdown drive today has left me with doubts.

Continue reading "Another Deflating Giants Loss 11809"

In a crazy week six in the NFL, we saw both New York teams fall, one squad completely give up, and three teams continue their undefeated ways. The Final Drive of week six starts right now!

(3-3) Houston Texans 28
(4-2) Cincinnati Bengals 17

Every once in a while, Houston goes ballistic and puts up mega-points. Matt Schaub once again proves he’s a fantastic fantasy QB… five games a season. The Bengals aren’t an elite team, so you had to expect a letdown eventually after winning four straight. Now they dropped back with Pittsburgh, who are also 4-2, but technically behind since the Bengals beat them head-to-head.

(6-0) Minnesota Vikings 33
(3-3) Baltimore Ravens 31

Why won’t anyone beat the Vikings?! Steven Hauschka’s missed 44-yard field goal keeps the legend of Brett Favre in Minnesota going strong for another week. Who thought that the Baltimore defense would be the team’s weakness this season? They don’t deserve to be called “good” with the amount of points they’re allowing. Take that Ray Lewis.

Continue reading "Joes Final Drive Week 6"

How long should it take for QB Tom Brady to return to form? How much longer before he’s excelling on a consistent basis? When does Brady regain the confidence in his reconstructed knee to the point he doesn’t think about it anymore?

In years past, it took two full years to be back to normal after ACL and MCL surgery – a year to heal and another year playing on the knee to regain confidence and feel. That’s not the case anymore, with San Diego’s Phillip Rivers tying for the league lead in touchdown passes last year after ACL surgery in January.

After five games it seems unlikely that Brady will reach 34 TD passes this year. With his up and down play so far, he’ll have a hard enough time reaching 30 scoring tosses.

Any Cowboys fan who watched Sunday’s game had to be ready to throw themselves out of a 3rd story window when they saw that the Cowboys were getting beaten by the Chiefs nearly the entire game. I, myself, wasn’t able to watch the game but I constantly monitored the score which may be even more maddening.

Fast forward to the 4th quarter and the Cowboys were deadlocked with the Chiefs at 13-13. After coming up with a pivotal stop, the Cowboys had an opportunity to finally put away a team they should’ve beaten in the 1st quarter. At this juncture, Miles Austin made the first big play in what would be the making of the legend of Miles Austin. He caught the ball on a slant route, broke a couple of tackles and scampered 59 yards for what

Continue reading "250 Miles between Austin Kansas City"

AFC forces meet in Boston, and one of the best rivalries in the league takes it to a whole ‘nother level thanks to a certain unretiring quarterback. Week four Opening Drive commence!

Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) at Cleveland Browns (0-3)

Can you imagine the Bengals sitting in the driver’s seat in the AFC North at 3-1? Since they’re facing off against the offensively-challenged Browns, that’s becoming an extremely likely scenario. I don’t think anyone in Cincinnati could have imagined a better start in their zaniest dreams. Great job to Marvin Lewis and a defense that has been rightfully much-maligned over the years. Carson Palmer is as close to 100% as we’ve seen since his injury. Cleveland is still awful. Sorry. The players hate Eric Mangini and he can't stand firm on a quarterback for more than six minutes. Derek Anderson may be starting this week, but I don't think Brady Quinn will stay on the sidelines all season.

Continue reading "Joes Opening Drive Week 4"

In the Week 2 edition of the Opening Drive, here are some teams who need to avoid an 0-2 start.

Carolina Panthers (0-1) at Atlanta Falcons (1-0)

What’s the over / under on Jake Delhomme interceptions in this NFC South match-up? I’m going to set that line at 2. Though after 9 picks (and 2 fumbles) in his last two games, I’m being generous. His leash could not be shorter. If Atlanta takes down the Panthers, they could share the division lead (or own it outright) after only two games. Expect heavy doses of both teams’ running attacks.

Continue reading "Joes Opening Drive Week 2"

Here on the eve of kickoff for the San Diego Chargers 2009 opener, I will take my annual stab at predicting the Bolts win-loss record.

In Las Vegas the Over/Under total for the club has been about 9.5 wins. I said it last year, and will say it with greater emphasis this time around, but this season has got to be the greatest odds for a division title that the Chargers have ever seen. And it's no stretch to say they will probably be favored in all six divisional contests.

9/14 at Oakland (WIN) - Chargers currently have franchise-record 11 game win-streak vs. the Raiders. No reason to think it stops now.

9/20 BALTIMORE (WIN) - This should be a very tough game, and perhaps low scoring. I'll take San Diego at home but wouldn't be surprised if they drop this one, knowing the slow-start history under Norv Turner.

Continue reading "Predicting the Chargers record in 2009"

Starting today and till the end of next season I am going to blog about the Chargers for the preseason, regular season, and or the playoffs!

Well to get things started I would like to say they are really heading in the right direction. QB Philip Rivers states that he and Tomlinson are healthy and ready to play this year. Shawn Merriman and Antonio Cromartie coming back from their respective injuries feel this year will be different. Their off-season is going really good. The rookies, I must say are doing exceptionally espceally the rookie Louis Vazquez. Here the link where you can read all about his change from College to the pros( http://www.chargers.com/news/article-1/vasquez-embracing-new-challenge/909cfe91-8f77-4d43-9e19-a972f2354cb6)

So thanks for reading my first blog, and if you have questions send them to this address.

Continue reading "Welcome to the 2009-2010 San Diego Chargers Blog"
