<h2 id="h-my-pre-holiday-declutter-plan-room-by-room-so-the-house-is-ready-before-the-first-guest-arrives" class="wp-block-heading">My pre-holiday declutter plan, room by room, so the house is ready before the first guest arrives.</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The holidays never arrive slowly. One week it’s October, and the next there’s a turkey to thaw, a guest room with things nobody has touched since last December, and a front door that has to welcome everyone at once.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After more than 15 years of organizing other women’s homes, I’ve noticed the season doesn’t make a house messy. It shows you everything that was already there, all at once, with company watching. So I declutter in October, while there’s still time to do it calmly.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This year we’ll host Thanksgiving and spend Christmas at home, so I&#8217;ve already put preparations on my calendar. Add a trip to Rio to visit my parents, and the month that always feels too short is cut in half.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To make sure the preparations don’t take the fun out of hosting, I already checked that the linens I want to use are in good shape, that I have enough napkin holders, and that we ran menu ideas by the rest of the family. After several years of “innovating the menu,” we’ll definitely have a turkey on the table this year!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All that said, here is the plan I follow, room by room, in the order your guests will see your home.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="576" height="1024" data-pin-description="Transcript from Vimeo's automatic English captions, so a few words may be wrong. Video: How to Use Pinterest Trends (NEW) (9 min) Let's talk about Pinterest Trends in the end of 2022 Pinterest released a new trends tool which is what you're seeing here on the screen and in some cases depending on the size of your Pinterest account. The very top section of Trends, maybe flipped flop with this one here at the bottom that says growing Trends your audience loves. Now often times on client accounts that have way more followers and tons of views every month not like my tiny account which is like thirty thousand views right. Now. This section is actually at the top and it's telling you that these are the things your audience is looking for and then and engaging within the last 90 days. So just be aware of that that might look different depending on what kind of account you have when you're watching this and then I also just want to bring you bring your attention to a few new features within the trends tool the main one is this region so you can actually change to way more regions than you were able to before um previously was the United States the UK in Canada. Now, we have southern Europe Italy Spain Germanic countries Germany Great Britain all of these other ones, so we want to make sure that we are choosing a region that is best fit for our needs in the trans. I would say if the majority of your audience is inside of the US you can figure this out by going to your audience insights if the majority of your People are in the United States, then you probably want to Target the US for Trends. So you go to trans by going to trends.pinterest.com or analytics and trends. And then inside of this tool you will see this screen. Now. These are the top trends in the United States this month. If you do switch it will say these are the top trends in Canada this month so you can see that they do switch if we switch to a southern hemisphere country. You will likely also see different Trends based on where people are at in the world. So Australia and New Zealand are in summer right now. So obviously summer outfits makes a lot of sense as to what is happening in the southern hemisphere at the moment compared to those of us that are in winter in the United States and maybe looking at winter recipes or winter, you know. Clothing ideas or things like that. So now diving into the filters that you have on the left hand side of the screen. You do have four different Trend types that you can filter by and it's always going to default to Growing trends. It will tell you though. If you start inputting things down here if nothing comes up to switch over to top yearly Trends. You can also look by month. So we are in February. These are top monthly trends for the month ending February 2023. So you may want to swap that to February 28th. 2022 and just see if the sick time last year what was trending? And if the date filters don't let you enter a date in with your keyboard. You can always go to the calendar and put them in there. You can see this time last year Bold Beauty inspo was on the rise tattoo ideas last year was on the rise during this time of the year prom dresses and Spring Nails, and then you can bring that all the way up to current day. So if you wanted to look at month by month clear up to current day, you can definitely do that. And growing Trends. This is obviously what is growing on the platform right? Now? This is what Pinterest has identified as popular and in the moment. So if you're looking to create idea pins on topics that are trending and in the moment, this is where you want to live. Now, you can start pairing growing Trends with interests. So it's super fun when you actually start putting some of these interests in here and you can see based on event planning gallantines party ideas girls night is really On The Rise. Look at that straight up. Um, we can also take a look at this for other Industries, too. So small business packaging ideas is on the rise right now business ideas weekly changes 0% monthly changes 10. So that's kind of on its way up. How to budget for beginners or how to save money on a low income those are rising even though the weekly change on this one's going down everything else is on its way up. So keep an eye on those things and definitely filter by your industry if at all possible, if you're like me and you're not necessarily in a space where your industry is in one of the interests then get as close as you can. So for me, I do a lot of targeting and finance education. And within those you can also use keywords, too. so you can pair any of these things with keywords so we can see the Valentine's Day is on the rise. But what about Saint Patrick's Day? If we search Saint Patrick's Day, we can also see even though everything was Valentine's Day that this is also on the rise. You can start to filter down by age. This isn't something that I really worry about and gender again. I don't really try to pigeonhole myself too much but those filters are there for you to play with if you would like. Now that you know how to use the filters. Let me show you how to use the trends itself and start to compare. So this was actually the previous Trends tool. This is what it looks like before we still have this option. We still have this availability. And you can actually come in here and start adding multiple keywords to the search term or to the comparison at the top or you can put Search terms in and that will begin to compare them. So let me actually just do. All right. So I put a couple of different holidays in the United States into the search bar. And I put them all on here to take a look at knowing that they're all at vastly different times of the year. So Saint Patrick's Day. There's a huge Spike right here, July 4th right here in the middle. It starts to come up and then Christmas here on the end in green is just really big starting mid year really growing into September clear into December and then it just drops off until it starts to pick up again about May of every year. So that is adding and comparison comparing things. You can also down at the bottom see the popular pins for certain industry selection. So if you chose St. Patrick's Day, you can scroll down and see the search feed that will come with that that keyword that you put into the trends tool click on over and you See those Search terms, you can see shops similar. If you keep scrolling you'll see related searches. These are all keywords that you should use and can use in your content. So that's how you are utilizing that part in the middle here. You'll see demographics based on that content with female being the biggest of all of them, unspecified and custom coming in second and Men coming in third and then you can obviously see the age demographics here as well. So using Trends is a great way for you to get in front of your content or in your content in front of your audience further in advance. So the way that you actually want to use this. Is by getting in on the trend before it starts to spike like right here. You wouldn't want to be publishing content for this trend right on the time that it is spiking unless it's an idea pen, but I really would encourage you to be putting your content on the platform. Well before that Spike, especially any standard and video pins that you need to be indexed and that you want to be shown out to the world before this happens. Otherwise what's gonna happen? Is that content's not gonna get seen for this entire year and then you have a chance to be seen again next year. So make sure that you are planning and prepping and scheduling your content a minimum of 30 days in advance. But you can go upwards of even 90 days in advance if you have the opportunity and you are planning. So think about Pinterest Trends as you are walking into Target. Or Walmart or any other store that sells seasonal items you walk in in August and they already have Halloween decorations you walk in in October and they're already even though Halloween hasn't even come. They're starting to put out Christmas decor. This is the same thought process that I want you to use as the corporate marketing is happening in big box stores. I want you to use that in your marketing for your small business. So don't be afraid to use Pinterest Trends if you have any questions on this." data-pin-title="Pre-Holiday Declutter: My Room-by-Room Plan for October" src="https://apersonalorganizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/The-Pre-Holiday-Declutter-I-Do-Every-October-1-1-576x1024.jpg" alt="A dining room with a table, patterned chairs, and a fern centerpiece, overlaid with text about the pre-holiday declutter to help with home organizing." class="wp-image-91910" srcset="https://apersonalorganizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/The-Pre-Holiday-Declutter-I-Do-Every-October-1-1-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://apersonalorganizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/The-Pre-Holiday-Declutter-I-Do-Every-October-1-1-169x300.jpg 169w, https://apersonalorganizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/The-Pre-Holiday-Declutter-I-Do-Every-October-1-1-768x1365.jpg 768w, https://apersonalorganizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/The-Pre-Holiday-Declutter-I-Do-Every-October-1-1-864x1536.jpg 864w, https://apersonalorganizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/The-Pre-Holiday-Declutter-I-Do-Every-October-1-1.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px" /></figure>

Your guests will unpack instead of living out of a bag.</p>

<h2 id="h-my-sunday-reset-routine-for-a-smaller-household-with-more-moving-parts-health-caregiving-travel-and-a-week-that-feels-like-mine" class="wp-block-heading">My Sunday reset routine for a smaller household with more moving parts: health, caregiving, travel, and a week that feels like mine.</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I wrote about a Sunday reset years ago, back when it was built entirely around little kids — <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/family-calendar-get-your-family-involved/">packed lunches, pool towels, permission slips, a fridge calendar color-coded for small boys</a>. It worked, for that house, in that season.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That house doesn&#8217;t exist anymore. My sons are becoming the young men they&#8217;ll be. My week now holds fewer daily hand-offs and a lot more that&#8217;s future-facing: a parent&#8217;s medical visit to track from another continent, a financial review I book like I used to book pediatrician appointments, a gym session I no longer skip, a passport that needs renewing before the next trip. The reset stayed. Almost everything it&#8217;s resetting for has changed. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here&#8217;s what it looks like now — and why I still do it every single week, no exceptions. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I want to be honest about something first: I almost let this habit go entirely a couple of years ago. There was a stretch when everything else in my life needed attention — my own health, a hard season with one of my sons, a move that meant starting over with people I hadn&#8217;t yet met. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A weekly Sunday ritual felt like the easiest thing to sacrifice when the bigger things were demanding so much.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I found, eventually, was the opposite of what I expected. <strong>The harder the season, the more the reset mattered</strong>—not because it fixed anything, but because it was one hour a week when I got to decide what my life would look like, instead of simply reacting.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="576" height="1024" data-pin-description="My Sunday reset hasn't changed in years — what it's resetting for has. Here's the six-step weekly reset routine I still run every week, and why the reasons behind it look nothing like they used to. </div>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column91740_b32369-89 kb-section-dir-horizontal kb-section-sm-dir-horizontal inner-column-1" id="numbered-subtitle"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<h3 class="kt-adv-heading91740_f58f43-84 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-theme-palette-2-background-color has-background" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_f58f43-84">1</h3>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_7db203-b9 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_7db203-b9">Step 1: Look Ahead at the Week</h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This part hasn&#8217;t moved. Sunday, coffee, calendar. What has moved is what I&#8217;m scanning for.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;m still checking for the obvious — appointments, deadlines, which days are heavy and which have room to breathe. But I&#8217;m also looking further out than I used to. A season of parenting young kids asks you to manage the next 48 hours. This season asks something different: am I tracking the things that don&#8217;t announce themselves with urgency but matter more over time?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So my Sunday scan now includes:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>What does my own week of movement look like? Training days, a long walk, personal care like a haircut, and the appointments I keep putting at the bottom of the list</li>

<li>Is there a call I owe my mother or my sister about something that needs following up?</li>

<li>Which of my sons still needs a nudge this week, and for what — a form, a deadline, a ride he hasn&#8217;t arranged? </li>

<li>Is there travel on the horizon that needs a document renewed, a booking confirmed, a bag half-packed early? </li>

<li>Is there a financial or planning task sitting in the &#8220;someday&#8221; pile that actually has a date attached?</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">None of this is more complicated than <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/back-to-school-to-do-list-for-a-calm-organized-fall/">the old list</a>. It&#8217;s just aimed further down the road. That&#8217;s the real shift nobody warns you about — the mental load doesn&#8217;t shrink when the daily logistics do. It just changes shape, from constant and immediate to occasional and consequential. You trade a hundred small pings for a handful of things you genuinely cannot afford to drop.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column91740_b121e4-8d kb-section-dir-horizontal kb-section-sm-dir-horizontal inner-column-1" id="numbered-subtitle"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<h3 class="kt-adv-heading91740_afc325-79 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-theme-palette-2-background-color has-background" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_afc325-79">2</h3>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_c3d0be-84 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_c3d0be-84">Step 2: Meal Planning For Fewer People, More Intention</h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cooking for a smaller table is its own kind of adjustment. I&#8217;m not solving for five plates or picky-eaters&#8217; preferences anymore. I&#8217;m solving for a rhythm that fits fewer people, more travel, and a body that responds differently to what I eat than it did fifteen years ago.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I do now: </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>A quick inventory of the fridge and pantry before I plan anything, so nothing goes to waste.</li>

<li>Two or three meals a week built around what I know supports how I want to feel — more protein, more vegetables, less of the reflexive processed food I used to lean on out of sheer exhaustion.</li>

<li>Something simple on the nights I know I&#8217;ll be tired, and something I actually enjoy cooking on the nights I have the bandwidth.</li>

<li>A grocery order placed early in the day, so it&#8217;s one less decision competing for my attention later.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I used to <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/meal-prep-organization/" data-type="post" data-id="45849">plan meals to survive a week</a>. Now I plan them because how I eat is one of the few things fully in my control, and I&#8217;ve stopped treating that as a small thing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It took me longer than I&#8217;d like to admit to make that shift. For years, meal planning was purely a logistics exercise — get something on the table, keep everyone fed, move on. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It wasn&#8217;t until I started paying closer attention to how differently my body responds to food now than it did in my thirties that the planning itself became a form of care rather than a chore. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;m not chasing a particular number on a scale or following a strict protocol. I&#8217;m simply paying attention and building a week that reflects what I&#8217;ve learned about what actually makes me feel steady.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column91740_0ef9ba-08 kb-section-dir-horizontal kb-section-sm-dir-horizontal inner-column-1" id="numbered-subtitle"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<h3 class="kt-adv-heading91740_bc9048-8f wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-theme-palette-2-background-color has-background" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_bc9048-8f">3</h3>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_6af70d-09 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_6af70d-09">Step 3: Prep for What This Particular Week Needs </h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every week still has its extras — the things that throw off an otherwise smooth run if you don&#8217;t see them coming. They&#8217;re just different extras now.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I check for:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Is my gym bag packed for the mornings I&#8217;ve committed to training — because <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/new-years-resolution-achieved-gym/" data-type="post" data-id="41380">a missing bag is still, embarrassingly, enough to talk myself out of going.</a></li>

<li>Do I need anything specific for a trip that&#8217;s coming up, even a small one?</li>

<li>Is there a document, form, or piece of paperwork I need to gather or send this week?</li>

<li>Is there something one of my sons needs from me that I keep meaning to get to — a conversation, a signature, a ride to an appointment he can&#8217;t yet arrange on his own?</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The details changed. The instinct didn&#8217;t. A weekly prep isn&#8217;t about doing more — it&#8217;s about not being ambushed by something you could have seen coming on Sunday with five quiet minutes and a cup of coffee.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column91740_4d92f5-e2 kb-section-dir-horizontal kb-section-sm-dir-horizontal inner-column-1" id="numbered-subtitle"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<h3 class="kt-adv-heading91740_aa71ab-b0 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-theme-palette-2-background-color has-background" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_aa71ab-b0">4</h3>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_3cc2b0-8f wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_3cc2b0-8f">Step 4: Check Who&#8217;s Carrying What</h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For years, this step meant syncing calendars with my husband around school and sports pickups and activities. It still means checking in — it just covers more ground now.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My youngest and I still compare calendars around the car we share, as always. But Sunday is also when my husband and I talk through the week ahead in fuller terms: who&#8217;s handling which piece of a trip we&#8217;re planning, who&#8217;s following up on which thread with the boys, whether either of us needs to shift something so the other can get to an appointment or a professional event. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">None of this looks dramatic from the outside. It&#8217;s a handful of short conversations. But naming who&#8217;s carrying what, out loud, once a week, is still what keeps the whole thing from landing entirely on one person by accident.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column91740_f21c9f-75 kb-section-dir-horizontal kb-section-sm-dir-horizontal inner-column-1" id="numbered-subtitle"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">
<h3 class="kt-adv-heading91740_e7378a-59 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-9-color has-text-color has-theme-palette-2-background-color has-background" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_e7378a-59">5</h3>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_12013d-7c wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_12013d-7c">Step 5: Reset the Spaces</h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This part is genuinely simpler than it used to be, and I don&#8217;t pretend otherwise. Less laundry. Fewer toys to find homes for. A quieter house most days. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I still aim for every Sunday:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Clear counters and an empty sink.</li>

<li>A quick vacuum pass through the rooms used most.</li>

<li>Surfaces that look like someone lives here with intention, not like someone is currently keeping it together by a thread.</li>

<li>One space — usually the kitchen table and my desk — completely cleared, because a cluttered flat surface is the fastest way to make my whole house feel unfinished.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_aa2106-0c wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_aa2106-0c">Step 6: Reset the Mindset</h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is the step I used to rush past, and the one I now protect most carefully.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A few minutes with tea or a candle, sitting with my planner, asking myself two honest questions: what actually went well last week, and what do I want more of in this one. Sometimes the answer is rest. Sometimes it&#8217;s connection, or movement, or simply fewer half-finished things hanging over me. I write it down, briefly, without turning it into a project.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I&#8217;ve learned, slowly, is that this step does more work than any of the others. The calendar check, the meal plan, and the tidy counters make the week run. This is what makes the week feel like mine. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I spent a long stretch of years treating the mindset piece as optional — the first thing to cut when Sunday got busy. It took a wrecked nervous system to understand that skipping it never actually bought me time. It just meant I started the week already behind.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I don&#8217;t need a mindfulness deck or a particular ritual to make this step count, though I&#8217;ve tried a few over the years and learned they are more a distraction than a tool for me. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What matters more than the specific tool is the honesty of the questions. It&#8217;s easy to sit down with a planner and simply move tasks from one week to the next without ever asking whether the pace itself is sustainable. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is the one part of my Sunday that isn&#8217;t about the week ahead at all — it&#8217;s about checking in with myself, the way I&#8217;d check in with anyone else I was responsible for taking care of.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-column kadence-column91740_7e2846-62 kb-section-dir-horizontal kb-section-sm-dir-horizontal inner-column-1" id="numbered-subtitle"><div class="kt-inside-inner-col">

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91740_429ea5-78 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91740_429ea5-78">Step 7: What Held Up, and What Didn&#8217;t</h2>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The reset itself held up. The reasons behind each step changed almost completely.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;m no longer managing chaos for a house full of little ones. I&#8217;m holding the rhythm for a household with fewer hands and more moving parts — my own health, my parents&#8217; care from a distance, a marriage and a family that has grown into a different shape than the one this routine was built for. The mental load didn&#8217;t disappear when the daily logistics did. It moved further out, onto a longer timeline, and it asks for a different kind of attention — steadier, less reactive, more deliberate.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Light the candle. Look at the calendar. Give yourself the time — you&#8217;re still worth building the week around.</p>

<h2 id="h-why-you-need-an-organized-home-not-more-willpower" class="wp-block-heading">Why You Need an &#8220;Organized Home&#8221; (Not More Willpower)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;ve watched a year move fast enough to blur — one month I&#8217;m packing sunscreen for summer, and the next I&#8217;m digging out holiday decorations, and I still couldn&#8217;t tell you where the months in between went. If that sounds familiar, you&#8217;re not imagining it. Life moves in seasons, and every season brings its own particular chaos, whether you&#8217;re managing school pickups, a full travel calendar, or just a home that never quite stops needing something.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Somewhere in the middle of all that living, the house falls apart a little. Laundry piles up. The counters disappear under mail. The junk drawer becomes a junk basket, then a junk bin. It&#8217;s not because you&#8217;re disorganized — it&#8217;s because a full life moves in seasons, and every season brings its own kind of chaos.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The good news? You don&#8217;t need a total home overhaul to fix this. You need a home with simple systems in place so life can run smoothly, even when your schedule doesn&#8217;t slow down. This isn&#8217;t about a perfectly styled house. It&#8217;s about a home that supports you instead of adding to your to-do list.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Today I&#8217;m walking you through exactly how to build that calm, with a routine I call the <strong>Calm Home Weekly Reset</strong>. It&#8217;s the same framework that&#8217;s carried me through more than a decade of organizing other women&#8217;s homes, and every season of my own since — the version that still holds up on the busy weeks, not just the easy ones.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<h2 id="h-what-makes-a-home-calm" class="wp-block-heading">What Makes a Home &#8220;Calm&#8221;</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A calm home isn&#8217;t a clutter-free magazine spread. It&#8217;s a home where:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>You know where things live, so you&#8217;re not searching for keys, papers, or missing shoes on your way out the door.</li>

<li>Small tasks get handled weekly, so they never pile into a weekend-ruining project.</li>

<li>Everyone in the household has a role, so it&#8217;s not all on you.</li>

<li>There&#8217;s a rhythm you can return to, even after a chaotic week.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The secret isn&#8217;t doing more. It&#8217;s doing the <em>right</em> small things, consistently. That&#8217;s exactly what the Calm Home <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/summer-reset-how-to-declutter-and-reorganize-your-home-mid-year/">Weekly Reset</a> is built to do — a simple 30-minute routine broken into five short resets you can do throughout your week.</p>

<h2 id="h-the-5-resets-that-keep-a-home-and-you-sane" class="wp-block-heading">The 5 Resets That Keep a Home (and You) Sane</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Instead of one overwhelming cleaning day, I like to break the reset into five focused categories. Each one takes only a few minutes, but together they cover everything that tends to spiral out of control in a busy household.</p>

<h4 id="h-1-the-weekly-home-reset" class="wp-block-heading">1. The Weekly Home Reset</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is your home base — a quick sweep of the entire house to reset the spaces you touch every day.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Quick Pickup:</strong> Do a quick sweep through your home and put things back in their place.</li>

<li><strong>Kitchen:</strong> Reset surfaces, check essentials, and get ready for the week.</li>

<li><strong>Bathrooms:</strong> Clear counters, restock, and refresh for a clean start.</li>

<li><strong>Bedrooms:</strong> Make beds, clear clutter, and set up for better rest.</li>

<li><strong>Laundry:</strong> Reset the load, the supplies, and your laundry area.</li>

<li><strong>Entry/Drop Zone:</strong> Clear the landing zone and prepare for smooth comings and goings.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pick one day a week — Sunday works well for most households — and give yourself 30 minutes to move through these six areas. You&#8217;re not deep cleaning. You&#8217;re simply resetting what tends to drift out of place.</p>

<h3 id="h-2-the-kitchen-reset" class="wp-block-heading">2. The Kitchen Reset</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The kitchen is the heartbeat of the house, and it&#8217;s usually the first room to show signs of a hectic week. A quick kitchen reset means you&#8217;re never staring into the fridge wondering what&#8217;s for dinner or shopping for groceries you already have three of.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Fridge Check:</strong> Remove expired items and wipe shelves and drawers.</li>

<li><strong>Leftovers:</strong> Use what you have. Store leftovers properly or plan to enjoy them.</li>

<li><strong>Grocery Inventory:</strong> Check what you have on hand before you shop.</li>

<li><strong>Meal Plan:</strong> Plan simple meals for the week that your family will enjoy.</li>

<li><strong>Grocery List:</strong> Make your list and keep it handy, whether on your phone or paper.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My favorite time-saving tip here: list your family&#8217;s go-to meals that they already love and rotate through them. You don&#8217;t need a new Pinterest recipe every night to feed your family well — you need a system that keeps you out of the 5 p.m. panic.</p>

<h3 id="h-3-the-family-reset" class="wp-block-heading">3. The Family Reset</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is the piece that keeps a busy household from feeling like it&#8217;s constantly playing catch-up. A little planning now creates a smoother week for everyone.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Calendar:</strong> Review the week ahead as a family.</li>

<li><strong>Appointments:</strong> Confirm times, locations, and anything you need to bring.</li>

<li><strong>School:</strong> Check homework, projects, and school reminders.</li>

<li><strong>Activities:</strong> Confirm practices, games, lessons, events, and playdates.</li>

<li><strong>Errands:</strong> List what needs to get done and when.</li>

<li><strong>Things to Remember:</strong> Birthdays, gifts, notes, returns, and to-dos.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here&#8217;s my <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/month-planning-day/" data-type="post" data-id="389">favorite piece of this reset</a>: the five-minute family huddle. Once a week, sit down together — even the kids — and walk through what&#8217;s coming up. It brings surprising calm and connection, and it means nobody is blindsided by a Wednesday science fair or a Saturday tournament.</p>

<h2 class="kt-adv-heading91614_3a8b58-59 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading91614_3a8b58-59">Organize Your Closet</h2>

<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph">Give your family one central place to check schedules, routines, chores, and plans, helping everyone stay informed and involved.</p>

<div class="wp-block-kadence-advancedbtn kb-buttons-wrap kb-btns91614_64bf8e-0a"><a class="kb-button kt-button button kb-btn91614_eb6b12-d3 kt-btn-size-standard kt-btn-width-type-auto wp-block-button__link kb-btn-global-inherit kt-btn-has-text-true kt-btn-has-svg-false wp-block-kadence-singlebtn kb-preset--theme-base" href="https://apersonalorganizer.etsy.com/listing/4581300918" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span class="kt-btn-inner-text">I want it!</span></a></div>
</div></div>

</div></div>

<h3 id="h-4-the-personal-reset" class="wp-block-heading">4. The Personal Reset</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here&#8217;s the reset most moms skip, and it&#8217;s the one that matters most. You cannot run a calm home if you&#8217;re running on empty. Taking care of yourself isn&#8217;t a luxury — it&#8217;s what allows you to take care of everything else.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Clothes for the Week:</strong> <a href="https://apersonalorganizer.com/fall-outfit-ideas-reset-your-closet/">Choose outfits</a>, check the weather, and prep what you need.</li>

<li><strong>Bag/Purse:</strong> Clear out, restock essentials, and keep it ready to go.</li>

<li><strong>Paperwork:</strong> Sort mail, files, and papers. Keep only what you need.</li>

<li><strong>Priorities:</strong> Choose your top two priorities for the week.</li>

<li><strong>Personal Time:</strong> Schedule time for something that fills your cup.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Notice that &#8220;personal time&#8221; isn&#8217;t an afterthought here — it&#8217;s part of the system. A calm, happy you creates a calm, happy home. If you only have five minutes, use them on yourself before you use them on the mail pile.</p>

<h3 id="h-5-the-15-minute-evening-reset" class="wp-block-heading">5. The 15-Minute Evening Reset</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This piece ties everything together, and it&#8217;s the one that will save you the most stress on repeat. Ten minutes a day prevents clutter from building up and saves time and stress later. Think of it as pressing &#8220;reset&#8221; on your home before bed so tomorrow starts easier.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Quick Pickup:</strong> Put things back in their places.</li>

<li><strong>Kitchen Reset:</strong> Clear counters, load or start the dishwasher, wipe down.</li>

<li><strong>Plan Tomorrow:</strong> Check your calendar and set your top three priorities.</li>

<li><strong>Prep for Tomorrow:</strong> Lay out clothes, pack bags, set out essentials.</li>

<li><strong>Laundry Check:</strong> Start a load or fold what&#8217;s clean.</li>
</ol>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You don&#8217;t need more time. You need a rhythm that works for you — and this ten-minute routine is proof that a calm home doesn&#8217;t require hours you don&#8217;t have.</p>

<h2 id="h-why-this-works-when-nothing-else-has" class="wp-block-heading">Why This Works When Nothing Else Has</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;ve tried to &#8220;get organized&#8221; before and it didn&#8217;t stick, it&#8217;s probably because the system asked too much of you. I watched this happen in dozens of homes over the years I did this professionally, not just my own — a once-a-year deep clean doesn&#8217;t hold up against a full calendar of practices, projects, and permission slips. What actually works is something small enough to repeat every week, so it becomes a habit rather than a chore you dread.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That&#8217;s the whole idea behind the <strong>Calm Home Weekly Reset</strong>. It&#8217;s not about achieving a perfectly organized house and keeping it frozen that way. It&#8217;s about giving yourself — and your household — a rhythm to return to, no matter how the week goes. Some weeks you&#8217;ll breeze through all five resets. Other weeks you&#8217;ll only manage the evening reset, and that&#8217;s still a win. Progress, not perfection, is what creates a calm, beautiful home.</p>

<h2 id="h-get-the-free-printable" class="wp-block-heading">Get the Free Printable</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To make this even easier, I put together a free, 5-page printable version of the Calm Home Weekly Reset, with a checklist for each of the five resets we just walked through: Weekly Home Reset, Kitchen Reset, Family Reset, Personal Reset, and the 10-Minute Evening Reset.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Print a set for your fridge, your planner, or your command center, and let it guide you through the week without having to remember it all in your head. That&#8217;s really the goal of any good system — it should hold the mental load so you don&#8217;t have to.</p>

<div id="fd-form-6a823323c3582bd2092a6a4b"></div>
<p><script>
  window.fd('form', {
    formId: '6a823323c3582bd2092a6a4b',
    containerEl: '#fd-form-6a823323c3582bd2092a6a4b'
  });
</script></p>

<h2 id="h-a-calmer-home-really-is-possible" class="wp-block-heading">A Calmer Home Really Is Possible</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Life moves fast, whatever season you&#8217;re in, and some weeks will always feel like they&#8217;re barely holding together. But your home doesn&#8217;t need to reflect that chaos. With a few small resets built into your week, you can create a home that feels good to live in, no matter what the calendar throws at you next.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Start with just one reset this week. Pick the one that would make the biggest difference right now, whether that&#8217;s the kitchen, the calendar, or simply giving yourself ten quiet minutes before bed. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Small steps really do add up to big change — and a calmer, happier home is closer than you think.</p>
