THE MASON JAR: A Nifty Idea

When visitors walk into my home they always admire the collection of glass jars and bottles that line the shelf above my kitchen sink.  “Where did you find this one? It’s absolutely beautiful?” I take a look and realize it’s the $9.99 Sauza Tequila bottle I purchased from CVS that I polished off last night, just missing it’s label.  Obviously you may not be an eclectic ghetto-nista like me and can afford to purchase a large supply of standard jars, but mismatching sizes, shapes, and colors can be so much fun.  Fill them with a single white rose, a tea light candle, or a collection of earth colored stones. In need of a wedding favor?  How about sending your guests home with a homemade jar of blackberry jam? Whatever purpose the mason jar may serve on your special day, they seem to add a personal touch that your guests will admire…best of all, they’re cheap!

The name says it all. Buuuuur-lap. Yes, burlap’s rough, no-frills nature wouldn’t go far in that fancy wedding department dominated by lace and satin. Thinking sea shells, sand, and sea glass? Burlap’s in the same department when it comes to creating a warm, cool theme that brings elements of the ocean and beach to your wedding and reception. The fabric, which can be picked up on online and at craft stores, can be used to fashion table covers, gift bags, ribbons, banners and more. A tricky fabric to work with, if you are not the do-it-yourself patient gal you might want to head over to Etsy.com, which is where we found these lovely creations.
