Boys Basketball: Urban’s season ends with NCS loss to Marin Academy

By Bonta Hill In the first round of the North Coast Section Division V playoffs, Bay Counties League West rivals Urban School and Marin Academy were neck-and-neck through three quarters. But the Blues, who led 35-34 heading into the fourth quarter, couldn’t solve the Wildcats 2-3 zone defense in the final frame, leading to a season-ending 51-43 loss on Wednesday at Kezar Pavilion.

Boys Basketball: Lick-Wilmerding can’t hold early lead in NCS loss to Justin-Siena

By Jeremy Balan Lick-Wilmerding High School's boys basketball team was riding the wave of energy early in its first home playoff game since moving to Division IV against visiting Justin-Siena on Wednesday. The 11th-seeded Tigers jumped out to a 15-6 lead midway through the first quarter, but the wave was short-lived, as Justin-Siena went on a 11-0 run and Lick never held another lead in a 58-47 loss to the sixth-seeded Braves in the first round of the North Coast Section D-IV playoffs.

Girls Basketball: International gets first NCS win over Head-Royce

By Josh Levine With a 63-48 win over Head-Royce of Oakland on Wednesday, International High School's girls basketball team did something the program has never accomplished – advance past the first round of the North Coast Section playoffs. The sixth-seeded Jaguars (19-9) defeated a short-handed Head-Royce squad in the first round of the NCS Division V playoffs, but the Jayhawks (18-11) were missing three players, including two starters.

Games of the day – Urban vs. Marin Academy boys basketball: The BCL West foes split their two regular-season meetings this season and will face off in the first round of the NCS Division V tournament. International vs. Head-Royce girls basketball: The two teams met in non-league play on Jan. 14 and the Jaguars rolled to a 56-41 victory, but the Jayhawks have taken down four City teams this season (Bay, Waldorf, Lick-Wilmerding and Urban). Lick-Wilmerding vs. Justin-Siena boys basketball: The BCL West champs will be underdogs despite hosting the first-round NCS Division IV matchup as the 11th seed. The only common opponent between the two teams is Redwood, which the Tigers lost to 70-46 in their season opener. Boys Basketball: Jewish Community can’t overcome Trinity’s press in CCS loss

By Jeremy Balan PACIFICA – The Jewish Community High School of the Bay boys basketball team knows exactly how Trinity Christian of Monterey feels. The Wolves were in the same spot a year ago. A year after making its first appearance in the Central Coast Section Division V playoffs last season, Jewish Community fell to Trinity 50-49 in the first round of the CCS playoffs on Tuesday at Alma Heights Christian Academy.

Baseball: Washington succumbs to late El Camino rally in non-league loss

By Jeremy Balan SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO — The Washington High School baseball team may be the defending Academic Athletic Association champion with a key core of seniors returning, but its first two games of the season have shown it has plenty of room for improvement. The Eagles were in contention for most of their non-league game on the road against El Camino and held a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, but gave up nine unanswered runs in two innings to lose 10-2.
