San Francisco Wedding Photographer Debra A. Zeller followed a unique path to the world of wedding photography. Before capturing the subtle moments of placing rings on fingers Debra was capturing musical fingers on guitars and keyboards. Debra is a very accomplished music photographer and has been featured in Rolling Stone, URB,  Entertainment Weekly, and even Playboy with her portraits of Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch.

Those years in the trenches gave  Debra a special understanding of working in tough lighting situations and capturing split second moments. Making the move to being a wedding photographer was a natural progression for Debra and she excels at making her subjects feel like rock stars.

Debra photographs weddings up and down California including wine country weddings in Napa, Sonoma, Livermore, and Santa Cruz. She also travels regularly to Tuscany, Italy and is available for destination weddings anywhere in the world.

Wedding Photojournalist Association

In 2002 the WPJA was formed to recognize an emerging trend known as photojournalist style wedding photography. While photojournalism in by far nothing new, applying a documentary like approach to covering a wedding day was new. This approach still remains popular today because it truly captures what the day was really like for all the participants.

The WPJA keeps a database of photographers working in this style. This is a great place to start your search for a photographer. Because photographers must be accepted to the association, and also must reapply every year, the WPJA offers a curated selection of great professional photographers.

Professional Photographers of America

There are many different photographer associations in the US and each one seems to have its focus on a particular genre of photographer. In the case of the PPA their focus is mainly on wedding and portrait professionals. I’m sure they might argue differently however, but in my mind that’s the kind of photographers they cater to. While less focussed on weddings only,  their database of photographers is still strong.
