I haven't been and active blogger, 5 months and 1 day to be exact, and I hereby apologize. I know all of you have been utterly disconsolate and are craving my ingenious blogging qualities. I have though, over the past 5 months, been saving ubiquitous fashion photos on my laptop and with this I mean the omnipresence of bold colors, shapes, eyewear, nail-polish, hair, shoes, accessories, basically everything was possible. As long as it had any resemblance to what I call a circus-wench situation, which is a far stretch from being a bad thing. I also feel like a lot has become unisex.. Or maybe that's just because most of my (male) friends are gay.. Or just weird.

Japanese Streets

Forget about Lookbook! Japanese Streets is my new website to turn to whenever I'm craving for fashinspiration! The website is created by photo-journalist Kjeld Duits and he was inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 90's.

While intensely scanning the website, I couldn't help to regret the fact that I cancelled my trip to Tokyo this summer to stay in the city. Although I love New York and everything that comes with it, I would DIE for a huge shopping trip in Tokyo!

I love the fact that the men dress better than the women in Asia. People that claim that European men are the most fashionable of our species are oh so wrong. Fashion is such a huge part of the male lifestyle in Asia that it's not considered a luxe. Its a necessity. When I was living in Seoul I realized that I could never be over-dressed as a guy over there. Nothing's too outrageous! Being zealous equals being normal.

I have been super obsessed with the Uniqlo socks! They have like a million different colors, the quality's great and they are really cheap. They make the perfect ''accessory'' when you don't have enough time or inspiration to create a ubiquitous look.

The mismatch summer look

So I was screen shopping today and I found myself being obsessed with anything but a theme. This summer is going to be such a mismatch! I love it! I feel like Prada started the whole thing of using unusual (or used-to-be-ugly-but-cool-now) prints in her collection and everyone sort of took it over. I love to sport some bright neon colors, but will also stay true to my autumn colors though! And yes, to all my male American readers, I wear sandals. It not just Jesus that can rock this leather footwear. And all of you better get used to it because you are going to wear it too this summer. You just don't know it yet!

I've been super busy at work here in New York and have been exposed to so many astounding photographers. They inspire me so much with their vision and I felt obliged to blog about them!

Remember when I said I was going to post my favorite lookbook looks every week? Well... Don't blame me for not reaching that goal. I've been struggling with the internet in my apartment and I've lost.

So from now on, I'll continue my blog in my lunch break or at the Starbucks 3 blocks away. Call that the fabulous New York life.

In Love With Outer Space

These are some great handmade mixed media collages by British artist Joe Webb. His collage work uses the basic rule of sourcing just two or three images. Then Webb presents them as a reinvented single image with the objective of communicating a new message or idea. He started making these simple handmade collages as a sort of luddite reaction to working on computers for years.

I mean. Its pretty awesome right? Or is it just me.. I love how it looks like the woman is in love with outer space.

Romanticizing and unrealistic?

Get over yourself.

I've been in New York for almost a week now and I have scanned at least 50 magazines ever since. Mostly for work purposes but still. I have seen so many interesting new fashion advertisements (especially the new Louis Vuitton, Lanvin, Chanel & Prada campaigns) and it makes me longing for a future where I have more time to work on my photography.

When I'm in Barnes & Nobles (where I do most of my magazine reading/scanning) I can't stand that environment of all people blabbing about how unrealistic the advertisements, covers, models etc. etc. nowadays are.

One could argue that dressing the industries best fashion on the species' best specimens isn't merely romanticizing clothing, it has nothing to do with setting an unrealistic precedent of physique for the magazine's readers. They basically just celebrate their readers a form of expression pushed to its most glorious levels. Its just like a team with their hired athletes, they are professionals.

And, if you think about it, fashion is closer to reality than most other art forms. Fiction, film, fine art. It all exists in a contact of the unreal.

So.. That's out of my system.

And yes. I am writing this blogpost in my break.

Beautiful.

Sometimes something can look beautiful just because it's different in some way from the other things around it. One red petunia in a window box will look very beautiful if all the rest of them are white, and vice-versa.

When you're in Sweden and you see beautiful person after beautiful person after beautiful person and you finally don't even turn around to look because you know the next person you see will be just as beautiful as the one you didn't bother to turn around to look at - in a place like that you can get so bored that when you see a person who's not beautiful, they look very beautiful to you because they break the beautiful monotony.

The big surprise called Pari Dukovic.

Bought New York Magazine to entertain myself during my atrocious flight to the Caribbean and not only was I surprised with the mind-boggling copy-quality of the magazine, but also with their smashing choice of photographers. Jenny Elbert, Wolfgang Freithof, Alex Subrizi and (my favorite) Paolo Roversi are only a few to name that are included in the magazine. It definitely treated me with the big surprise called Pari Dukovic, with his photographic portfolio, taken at the fashion shows in Paris, Milan and New York. Can't believe that this was the first time I got acquainted with him.

I googled the man and scanned through his portfolio and whether shooting boxing matches, burlesque dancers, street photographs of Istanbul or New York or backstage at the fashion shows, I find Pari's photographs high in contrast, gritty, dark and very dreamy.

Goodbye Korea! 안녕

Shot this photo really quickly with my Blackberry when I left Jukjeon, the city I was living in during my time in Korea. Even though I had a sight like this almost everyday, I couldn't stop being astonished with the view.

I have been abroad for a long time now, but it amazes me how close I still am with my friends back home. Skype is the new 2pm coffee meeting.

I had the biggest epiphany a few days ago when I heard that a very old friend of mine was engaged, went to Africa for volunteering work and is a fully devoted Christian now. I had no knowledge of any of this for a very long time, although this all happened when I was still living in Europe.

I truly believe that people first need to find themselves, in order to really connect to others. Because how can you become close to someone if you aren't even sure who that person is they are getting close to.

For me, going abroad and experience uncomfortable situations is a way of finding my true self. And maybe the reason I wasn't able to really connect to others before, and lost contact with them, was because I was still searching for who I really was.

So the real question now is:

How do we find ourselves, without losing each other?

As I do with music artists, I always try to find new, contemporary, artists. One of my absolute favorites is Natasha Morgan NYC.

I always chase new artists on youtube, and the band Purity Ring entered the peripherals of my attention earlier this year. They have been described as being very 'now', which, considering the flood of new lo-fi electronic maestros, is a fair comment, and they certainly do seem to fit in with the current sounds that are being tossed around off the mainstream map.
