This weeks magical collectors tip is a handbill from the estate of John Mulholland.

It dates from 1939 and lists, amongst others, Jean Hugard and The Great LeVante & Co. Also listed is one Li Ching Soo: presumably yet another Chung Ling Soo impersonator.

It’s an interesting bit of magical ephemera for sale at a reasonable price.

It has come to my attention that there are two interesting and important pieces of magical paraphernalia currently for sale on eBay.

The first is Kettle used by the great levanteThe item description states was given away in one of his stage performances.

The other item is a bowl used by the great Chung Ling Soo and bought by the seller from a magic circle auction.

I’m afraid I can’t vouch for the seller so as always it’s buyer beware but they surely have to be worth a punt.

Exclusive Magical Secrets First Edition For Sale

There is a first edition of Will Goldston’s famous book Exclusive Magical Secrets for sale on ebay
. This is number 755 of 1000 and is in fantastic condition.

I am fortunate enough to own a copy (number 252 originally owned by Bennett Scott) otherwise I’d be bidding myself. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a piece of magical history. I don’t make a habit of plugging other peoples auctions, but this is a rare find and deserves to be once again owned by a member of the magical set.

Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness

Headlong Theatre is touring a production of “Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness” by Anthony Neilson
and directed by Steve Marmion.

Here’s what the Times Online says:
“Roll up, roll up, for Anthony Neilson’s mad freakshow of misery, first performed in 2002 and now revived by Headlong. A travelling Victorian spectacle complete with red velvet drapes, creaky stage illusions and a mysterious top-hatted impresario…”

Most Derren fans know that as well as a mind tickler he is a very accomplished artist. His book of portraits called, er, Portraits is now available for order from amazon.

Dusty Peacock

Sony’s online tv service crackle, famous for hosting Penn Gillette’s vlog Penn Says, has commissioned a series about failed fictional magician Dusty Peacock starring King of Queens star Gary Valentine.

According to TubeFilter News Gary’s younger brother and fellow King of Queens actor Kevin James is directing the series that will air online later in the year.

Derren Brown and Joe Power

From the Ormskirk and Skelmersdale Advertiser (an unlikely source I’ll admit) comes news of Derren Brown making a suprise appearance at psychic clairvoyant Joe Powers stage show in the West Lancashire village of Burscough.

According to the footage, Derren and Joe are making a documentary for Channel 4 together, and were both seen in Southport doing cold readings. This is the first I have heard of any such documentary and can only assume that he will go head to head with the ‘real’ psychic to see who is more successful.
