Painting has never stopped but after completing my “So Sad” (Trump) painting, I have been afraid to look too far ahead in what I see (and paint). Covid-19 has made me aware of the importance of showing here what I’ve been thinking – even if it’s only the pretty watercolor flowers that give me pleasure as they multiply. Covid time is singularly alone-time.
Even refreshing tubes of paint is curb-side pickup or on-line provides little people contact. My work shown here is small – I’ll get back to larger canvases eventually.

I’ve been asleep at the blog-post but have two venues/ no, three!/ in Vermont to see my work.

I was asked to participate in an annual event/hanging at Penny Cluse – a restaurant on Cherry St.

in Burlington. Each year, artists are given a 6″x 6″ wooden panel on which to “evoke” a theme

determined by the curators. This year, the subject is “PLAY” – defined as the artist wants. (The

dates of the show are June 6- July 20. Purchases come off the wall and go to your home when

you buy it.) After many false starts, I realized (mid-winter) that all I wanted to do was play at the beach…so, my

panel has sand-like grit and a red pail and shovel. I am hoping to be at the beach in a few months.

Once again, I entered a juryed competition for the Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition at

the Red Barn Gallery @Lareau Farm Inn, Rt.100, Waitsfield. I was delighted to have an image accepted

and the opportunity to hang 2 other pieces in the “small paintings” section – these are companion pieces to

“Sophia” – in the main gallery. The gallery destination is a lovely ride into central Vermont – and cows have

not been in the barn for (at least) a few years! This exhibit is up from June 29 – July 26.

The third venue is at Big Picture Framing at the Blue Mall, Dorset St. in So. Burlington. The owner, James Regan,

has been generous with his wall and shelving space for several artists. There are several acrylic paintings of mine –

waiting for a buyer and a frame. That venue is an ongoing space.

AS for looking at art, I have been to Storm King (a sculpture park that I’ve wanted to see for many years), returned to the

Museum of Fine Art several times to see the Quilts exhibit, John Singer Sargent – again – and the mid-century abstract

artists in their collection. It all reminds me of why I love looking at as well as creating art. I hope that you get to see some

amazing work this summer.

I was pleased to be asked to hang LARGE paintings at the US Attorney’s office in Burlington this summer. I chose 5 large landscapes (you can see them on the acrylic web pages) and 6 small pieces – some of which I grouped together. The hallway wall space is wonderful – especially the curved walls at the top of their internal spiral staircase. That is the good news here. The less good news is that it is not accessible to the public. Only attorneys, staff, judges, and clients are able to see the work. The paintings will hang there for 6 months – which means that I won’t be tempted to paint over these pieces during that time! Actually, I had major help in hanging these pieces: from Sara Katz (she, herself is a wonderful painter) and my husband, David. (His training for this was at his first job at the MFA,Boston – where he hung a Wyeth show — being the guy in the gray shirt with DAVE on the pocket.).

I have always loved hand-painted tableware – since my mother had a “Vera” pattern cloth in the 1950’s. From 1968-2000, I had Italian made plates with bright red and yellow poppies. I find that many of my watercolor paintings are patterns, so when I bought a light-weight canvas tablecloth last week in preparation for a summer party, I found the temptation irresistible to try a “stain painting” on this surface. I had done stain paintings years ago – before I used brushes. Pouring paint on an un-gessoed canvas and drawing into the paint with black paint from a squeeze bottle is very freeing. Swish! and there is your permanent mark! I did one 15′ raw canvas in 1996 that is still used to cover a window seat and pillows. This past week I set up my drop cloth (Important! the paint will stain the floor, too), watery paints, brushes and Whosh! I have a new tablecloth. The paint is acrylic so it won’t fade or run. Here is my first tablecloth! (Meanwhile, the painting that I’m working on goes unfinished, still.)

I am pleased to have a painting accepted for an exhibit at the 2013 Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition at the Red Barn Gallery on the grounds of the Lareau Farm Inn. Route 100, Waitsfield, VT. A reception is planned on Sunday, June 30 from 3-5pm. The closing is Sunday, July 28 at 5pm. I plan to be at the opening reception and it would be great if you, my blog followers, were there, too.

Watercolor? you may ask. AS I have been concentrating on acrylic on canvas for a while, now. However, I did have some unusual watercolor paintings in a show at the WHAT Gallery in Wellfleet a few years ago – and this is the last of these paintings not yet sold. It is an underwater image with many “microscopic beasties” floating in sky-reflecting blue water. It’s title is “Waterworks” (22″ x 30″). With summer nearly here, and the Cape a perfect place for watercolor work, I plan to return to these images. (Just after I complete this last large canvas in acrylic.)
