A Macon woman is in police custody after she ran over her 4-year-old son in the parking lot while fleeing the Houston County Galleria in Centerville.

The tragic incident happened on Thursday night, when a Belk loss prevention officer observed Arkebia Albury, 25, shoplifting inside the store.

The security officer followed Albury and her children, ages 2 and 4, into the parking lot, according to a report on Macon.com.

When he ordered her to stop, Albury jumped into her 2001 Toyota Camry and hit the gas, but only her 2-year-old had made it into the passenger side of the car.

As the officer pleaded with Albury to leave the 4-year-old until an ambulance arrived, Albury got out out of the car and picked up the injured child.

“She picks the little boy up and throws him in the car and drives off,” Centerville Police Chief Sidney Andrews said.

Police caught up with Albury’s Toyota on Wilson Drive, near the mall. Emergency rescue personnel arrived and transported the child to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition with severe head and internal injuries.

“The child is in bad shape,” Andrews said. “It wasn’t looking too good.”

In addition to the 2 toddlers, Albury’s sister and niece were also in the car. The women were not charged since they stayed in the car when the shoplifting occurred.

Andrews said he wasn’t sure what was taken in the theft.

“I believe it was a couple of T-shirts. I do know it was clothing. It was a misdemeanor amount,” he said. “This certainly was not worth it.”

Albury is charged with with two counts of cruelty to children, reckless conduct and theft by shoplifting.

Vanessa Williams, executive director of the National Conference of Black Mayors, owes over $126,000 in defaulted loans and attorney’s fees to 2 top executives of rapper T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records.

Court records obtained by FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell shows that the National Conference of Black Mayors leaves a trail of unpaid bills around the country. The black mayor’s group, with over 580 mayors, owes almost $1 million in unpaid bills, liens and court judgments against them.

The annual mayor’s conference will be held in Atlanta next week, but as Dale Russell has learned, the head of the convention is leaving a trail of unpaid loans, liens and judgments herself.

Grand Hustle CEO Jason Geter and Grand Hustle General Manager Hannah Kang thought they were helping out a friend when Vanessa Williams came to them seeking a loan to fill a short term gap in the Conference budget.

Williams, a smooth talker, played on Geter and Kang’s strong religious faith. Geter and Kang advanced Williams a loan of $90,000. She promised to pay the money back in a timely manner.

But Geter and Kang never got their money back. In fact, Williams issued them 2 checks that bounced.

It took years and the legwork of private investigators to haul Williams and the National Conference of Black Mayors into court. Geter and Kang won a judgment of $126,125.50 against the organization.

But Williams protected her assets by transferring property into the names of her husband and family members.

When Dale Russell caught up to Williams, she blamed all of the conference’s problems on “embezzlement” by a former insider.

She claimed she was paying people back and she promised to provide documents to support her claims. But on the day she was scheduled to meet with Russell, she cancelled the meeting without explanation.

“They felt a little bit betrayed… by someone who holds them self out to be a pillar of the community,” said Michael Miller, the attorney representing Geter.

“There has never been any intent to pay my clients back,” said Miller.

The Grand Hustle executives were forced to start the legal process all over again when their previous attorney, Charles Mathis, died of a heart attack in 2011.

“I was thinking that today could be my last day as a Boy Scout,” Tessier said. “Obviously, for gay Scouts like me, this vote is life-changing.”

Tessier is concerned that he will be kicked out of the organization when he turns 18.

That’s because, despite ongoing pressure from gay rights advocates and corporate sponsors, the Boy Scouts of America remains resistant to allowing openly gay scout leaders.

“That one couple hours (between 17 and 18) will make me not a good person,” Tessier said.

Tessier is not the only openly gay Boy Scout who finds himself between a rock and a hard place. In California, Scout officials refused to grant the Eagle Scout rank to Ryan Andresen, 18, who came out as gay last year.

Of the 200,000 leaders, parents and youth members who responded to a survey sent out by the Boy Scouts of America, 60% voted to end the exclusion of openly gay boys in the Boy Scouts.

The archaic ban on openly gay boys within the Boy Scouts was illogical in its reasoning. Boys don’t turn out boys, gay men do.

Although the vast majority of gays are not child molesters, the majority of child molesters within America’s tiny 4% population of gays are men.

The Scouts can’t take the chance of even one boy being molested while on a camping trip in the mountains with a gay scout leader. For that reason the ban on openly gay Scout leaders should never be lifted.
