Alaskan Grown Strawberries!

My plant is producing a few ripe strawberries every couple of days,

and propagating too so have made four other plants from the mother to date...

May 2018: Yakutat Alaska

A few photographs of our recent month-long trip

to our Yakutat home

(away from our Juneau home)...

The second morning after we arrived

we were delighted to have a deer

along the shore of the lake,
as viewed from our deck...

Many birds come to visit

on a daily basis...

We're slowly adding to our art collection,

shown here below the peak of the ceiling

are my father in law's photographs (Max's Dad) that he painted,

including his painting on the moose horns below them...

We get all types of visitors,

not to mention the feline variety...

Fun finds we like to display...

Evening mountain range and sunset views,

again, from the deck...

At Situk River

to replenish firewood for the wood stove,

including a picnic that followed

with brother Dean, his wife Chantil and her mother...

The geese flying overhead and nearby

were nonstop...

The regal

bald eagle...

The sole swan...

Whew...wood's all stocked,

time to eat folks...

Back to the homestead
where the wildlife viewing continues nonstop...

A dear friend brought raspberry bushes from her Juneau property,

along with a couple store-bought variety
that the hubs got to work planting...

Lil' Miss Chelsey decided to take an afternoon siesta
in the meantime...

The hubs did a bang-up job,

all the raspberry bushes now have a new home...

As viewed from the kitchen window on a rainy,
stormy day

appeared this very loud and awesome military aircraft...

These bald eagles are being taunted

by a blue jay
(you'll see that they finally gave up and flew away)...

Our arrival to Lost River

The pup will be 10-years-young the first part of June 2018,

but she still has a lot of get-up-n-go.

She continues to climb and vault
logs like a boss!!

She's tuckered out,

it's time for dinner...

a king fisher...

SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2017: EVENT-FILLED TRIP TO YAKUTAT ALASKA...

SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2017

YAKUTAT ALASKA:

Me, my husband Max and our pup Lil' Miss Chelsey's

first adventure with brother Dean and his wife Chantil

started off clam digging

in two separate areas in the same general location,

which included a side trip in-between

to walk and sightsee along the ocean shoreline...

We returned back home and had a few wildlife visitors on the property,

as well as viewed from our deck and on the lake below...

How elegant and graceful is this deer,

what a treat to find across the street from home...

On the shoreline of the lake

a young bald eagle with its catch (we think its an unlucky duck),

as viewed from our deck above...

We ventured out the road (30 mile) for a picnic

with brother Dean, his wife Chantil and nephew Ryan...

A day out fishing and wildlife viewing;

we weren't disappointed,

luckily...

Upon our return,

we were trilled to view this brown bear

from the deck above the lake...

My brother John arrived for several weeks to design and construct

(with the help of the hubs)

a new and separate bedroom with its own windows and heating source

in our loft area...

Taking a break with brother John from construction

and other work we've been doing around our property

to enjoy incredible sightseeing

that Yakutat has to offer...

Another great trip to Yakutat Alaska

(our home away from home in Juneau Alaska)

and it's always hard to leave.

Even so, it makes it easier

because we usually have a set date when we know we'll return soon,

so until then...

MAY 2017: FUN-FILLED TRIP TO YAKUTAT ALASKA...

MAY 2017:

A fun-filled 9-day vacation in my hometown of Yakutat Alaska

with my husband and Lil' Miss Chelsey,

and during the last several days

we happily welcomed the arrival of

his sister and her husband,

including his brother and girlfriend...

A beautiful evening the day we arrived...

We spent the fist 5 days, as usual, mostly working on improvements
to our home away from home...

Our treasured addition of my two brothers carvings:

1) Center killerwhale is yellow cedar
inlaid with abalone and ivory was carved by my bother Master Carver Fred Bemis in 1996, and

2) Outside two carvings of the lovebirds, left: eagle, right: raven,
were carved by my other brother John Dale Firestack in 1994...

We never tire of this view
while enjoying our early morning coffee...

We hung a hummingbird feeder
and they took right to it...

The first dove to arrive during our trip,
as is typical they are very elusive...

We also hung a bird feeder,
extending out from the smokehouse...

A surprising bonus
was when we came upon this precious marmot...

Wild strawberry fields forever...

Looking for special treasures beachcombing
and taking in all this lovely scenery...

In her happy place,
Lil' Miss Chelsey never stopped smiling
and especially loved climbing on the rocks...

Until capturing the following series of photographs,
I never truly realized how aggressive bald eagles could be
during group feeding rituals...

Looks like a battle wound...

Yikes...

Taking in the sights
the night before our departure...

Doves were still elusive,
but moving a bit closer...

Uh oh ~ 'me blushing,'
two swans mating/feeding ritual
on the lake for an entire day...

You hear the doves quite often throughout the day,
although this was the first one to venture into the yard
below the deck the morning we were to depart...

we are always disheartened to leave
but are equally eager with anticipation to return...

It looks like it's 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon, but its truly 10:15 p.m.

The white fence is glowing nearly orange,
similar when there are forest fires
in central Alaska when we get its aftermath...strange,
although it's providing for a lovely evening...

Our Alaska Hometown Adventure

in Yakutat...

We were blessed to be able to travel back home to Yakutat for a short trip to visit with my son from Ohio after not seeing him for 5 years, spread my Dad's ashes post his passing several years ago, work on our home and relax while enjoying some sightseeing with our company.

We also attended a get together held in my sister and her husband's honor; we're grateful to reconnect with so many family members and friends.

The day after, we met the flight from Juneau to Yakutat and picked up my brother in law and his girlfriend. They stayed for the duration of our trip.

We all wished we could have stayed longer, as usual...

My son, JR, arriving Juneau to overnight Sunday,
prior to heading to Yakutat the next morning on Monday...

the evening we arrived on Thursday...

On our way to Cannon Beach,
we stopped for a bit of sightseeing and sport fishing...

oh how we missed thee...

After a bit of a stroll,
we arrived at Broken Bridge to spread my Dad's ashes;
couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to do so...

Salmon fry even showed up for this special occasion...

wish we could have spent the day here
although we had to head to the airport to catch our flight back to Juneau...

Walked down to visit with Mother and family
and to introduce Amberly (brother in law Steve's girlfriend).
,
Couldn't resist having brother Kevin pose
with this hefty king salmon he recently caught,
mighty nice, huh?!...

While we were gone visiting
the hubs and his brother installed this new ripple siding on the first stairwell landing,
including designing this ingenious 'shrine' for us two ladies that states,

"The Holy Family / Praise the Women"

~ Never a dull moment with these two, love 'em to bits!! ~

Adding our personal touches of beach-comb findings,
humming bird feeders
and a few moose horns from post-year Yakutat hunts...

~ Always having too much fun, says not one of us ever! ~

We stopped by to visit Master Carver brother Fred

to view this tremendous totem pole soon be erected at the Senior Center area.

Waiting for our flight to arrive at the Yakutat Lodge outside deck,
then it's time to fly back to Juneau.

~ Super adore these benches and tables, I want a set of them ;) ~

All good things must come to an end.

via Alaska Airlines,
then approaching the Juneau runway...

Short but sweet.

We all can't wait to head back...

This heavy fog during the drive to the harbor
had us a bit worried about the upcoming boat ride...

Yes, the fog was incredibly dense...

Thank God the fog began to lift soon after our arrival...

We made it to shore...

Husband Max was the first to start digging...

and capture a sight such as this, I'm blessed in so many ways...
