American Truck Simulator: 1.62 Update Open Beta

We are excited to share that the Open Beta for the 1.62 update for American Truck Simulator is now available to try and test! If you would like to take part, we would really appreciate your help in reporting any bugs you may encounter in the appropriate section(s) of our official forums.

Every report and piece of feedback helps us polish and fine-tune the update ahead of its full release, so we greatly appreciate everyone who takes the time to help us test it. Thank you in advance!

Road Trip Tourist Boards Update

If you have been enjoying the new Atlas feature in the recently released Road Trip: Ford DLC, we have something more coming your way in the 1.62 update!

You can look forward to brand-new Tourist Boards to uncover in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Washington, and Louisiana, with one Tourist Board added to each of these states, as well as Nebraska, which will receive two Tourist Boards; a new postcard will be awarded for every one of these completed!

But that's not all. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66, we will also add the Route 66 Cross-Border Tourist Board with exploration locations spanning across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

If you don't own all these map expansions, you can still explore the locations available in the states you own. However, to unlock the special postcard reward, you will need to own all the map expansions covered by the Route 66 Cross-Border Tourist Board and visit every exploration location associated with it. And there's an extra treat, too. Completing this Cross-Border Tourist Board will also reward you with a special Route 66 Air Freshener accessory!

We are continuing to expand the Improved Material System with this update, bringing it to more truck interiors. The All-New Volvo VNL is the latest addition to the lineup, benefiting from enhanced lighting and improved visual quality, with a particular focus on how different interior materials react to light. Goodyear Tires Pack Update

We are updating the Goodyear Tires Pack paint jobs to reflect the company's updated branding. The latest Goodyear logo and slightly adjusted colours are now featured across the paint jobs, bringing them in line with the current design.

Game Radio Update

We're also bringing an update to the Escape station within our Game Radio feature! As the only stream-safe station in our in-game radio lineup, Escape is a great choice for content creators who want to share their journeys with their communities. We've removed tracks that were causing copyright issues and expanded the playlist with 11 new songs, giving Escape a longer runtime that better matches our other stations.

Show HN: Cosplay as a tech lead, using gVisor to sandbox agents Hi everyone, This started as an exploration into harnesses and locally hostable LLMs (the kind that uses less power than a small electric heater), and I used it as an opportunity to retool. I've tried popular ones like Cline, Claude Code, and Pi, but wanted a different UX and integrated sandboxes. The solution that I've landed on is a responsive web interface where I can quickly drive progress. It feels like a microcosm of my day job: define and delegate tasks, organize using kanban, then review deliverables. And it also feels like the time I used to spend coding is now spent in code review with the agent, so I tried to optimize the UX to make review feel nicer. One of my (maybe a bit niche) benchmark use-cases is how pleasant it is to make progress on hobby software projects while also out on a hike. This meant specifying low bandwidth usage and offline mode. Now I can jot down an idea, start the task, and at some point down the trail: get a notification* that either clarification is needed, a decision needs to be made, or the code is ready for review. I've been having a good time with this. To build MIKE, I exclusively used locally hostable LLMs (from Google, Meta, Qwen, Poolside, and DeepSeek) hosted with llama.cpp on my machines at home (Strix Halo and a 5090) to "compile" the code. The experience has gotten substantially better ever since DeepSeek’s release in July. Side note: I have a soft spot for llama.cpp since it was one of the first that made it possible to run this new tech at home, and its maintainers accepted a tiny improvement I made to error reporting. Oh the joys of having a PR get approved. I plan on maintaining this, at least until similar features are supported by better tools. It was one of my critical requirements, and I opted to use an existing battle-tested sandbox. The idea is simple, there are still plenty of situations where apps like WhatsApp, facetime and other internet calling apps aren't an option. For example, when you are abroad and need to call your bank, an airline, or a government office or your son/daughter's school. I wanted to make those calls possible without requiring users to install another app or buy a sim card or even commit to a monthly subscription. I built Kitaphone using Next.js and Twilio, One of the more interesting challenges has been making browser based calling reliable, especially when it comes to dealing with microphone permissions, sending keypad inputs to automated phone systems, and preventing abuse of free calling credits. The product is live and supports international calls to regular phone numbers, users currently need an account to make calls partly because each call has a real telecom cost. I am still improving it and learning from the people using it by receiving feedback. Fun fact: "kita" means our in Bahasa Malaysia, since I am based in this beautiful country and their people are so warm and welcoming I was truly inspired by this place and decided to name it our phone. I've been using GitKraken for a whole 10 years now, and I've always loved it, but lately I've found it to be a bottleneck, and I haven't seen it improve the features I really care about. So, as many others have done recently, I took a shot at using Opus 5.5 to help me build my dream Git GUI app. I did take massive inspiration from GitKraken (the look and feel is a close match since it's what I feel comfortable with) but everything is built from scratch. I made lots of different UX choices that I think help streamline things. Most importantly, performance was the key thing to get right at the start. I daily-drive Linux so that was first. I went with Tauri to have a really fast Rust core, and after doing performance testing with WebKitGTK it wasn't good enough. So I'm using Tauri's v3 alpha with CEF (Chromium) which made it easy to get a butter smooth 60fps for scrolling a huge list of commits (whereas I would barely get 10fps in my large repo with GitKraken, with tons of hitching). Everything feels so much faster. The website is best viewed on desktop, I included a fully functional web-only version of the app (mocked git and gitlab) so you can try it out!
