Direi che questo blog è ufficialmente operativo. Qui a destra ho messo i link agli altri blog. PBCartoceti è il mio blog professionale e devo recuperarlo tramite Wordpress; siccome ci vuole un corso di laurea non sarà immediatissimo.

Gli altri due... ma chi li ha scritti???

Capisco che si cresce. Capisco che quando si comincia a guardare indietro e a vedere svariati decenni si comprende che la vita è lunga, ricca, a volte perfino felice.

Ma proprio non avere la minima idea di cosa parlavo nel 2011???

NEL FRATTEMPO

Come dicevo sotto, credo che i miei vari blog coprano decentemente gli ultimi 10+ anni della mia vita, ma per completezza vi faccio un breve riassunto.

- Papà Alfredo se n’è andato nel 2015.

- Mamma Annamaria se n’è andata nel 2022.

- La zia Gabriella vive con me a Fosseno e sta meglio di tutti! (Cioè, è coetanea di Ringo Starr...)

- I miei cuginetti Cartoceti sono a Milano a studiare/lavorare (Luchino studia a Rimini.) Durante l'anno accademico abitano nell’appartamento della zia, accanto al mio, e non esagero quando dico che mi hanno cambiato la vita in meglio.

- Io adesso abito soprattutto a Fosseno, ma cerco di scendere a Milano un paio di volte al mese per vedere i bimbi e lavorare al mio appartamento.

- Dopo un esaurimento nervoso nel 2023 (magari poi vi racconto anche questa) sto ricominciando con estrema cautela a lavorare sulle cose che amo: la radio “Voce di Arda “ su Spreaker, le traduzioni dei racconti apocrifi di Sherlock Holmes per la Delos, un pochino di volontariato in paese.

- Notizia sbalorditiva! La mia nuova passione: l’arredamento di interni. Non dico comprare mobili nuovi, perché ne abbiamo tanti bellissimi; ma tutti gli accessori di Amazon sono MIEI. Seguiranno foto.

COSE DA FARE

Ho già eliminato la fuffa della colonna di sinistra. Avverto che mi ci vorrà un pochino a controllare tutti i link degli amici. Ho già avuto suggerimenti da vari amici per aggiungere il loro sito; prima o poi ci arrivo.

Non ho intenzione di rileggere a breve i vecchi post, perché il cringe scorre potente in questo blog. Calcio, Formula 1 e Academy Awards non li seguo più. Brynden Blackfish Tully è sempre nel mio cuore, ma i link alle fanfiction possono trovare una sede meno invasiva.

La mia ansia sociale purtroppo mi ha fatto perdere i contatti con gli amici anglofoni, quindi d’ora in poi il blog sarà in italiano. Tanto Google Translate se la cava benissimo.

L’argomento principale del blog saranno gli scleri. È stato un sollievo scoprire che le mie psico-live sono ancora tutte qui. Credo che l’interregno 2012-2025 si trovi su un altro dei miei blog: studierò se è possibile compattarli, se no userò opportuni link per facilitare l’esperienza di lettura.

Non sono più giovane e la mia libidine non si trova neanche con il metal detector, ma dall'AC mi salvo da sola, stracciando la tessera.

Seguiranno dettagli, forse. Mi sono iscritta per stare con le amiche del paese e onorare Gesù. Ora con le mie amiche non ho più nulla da dirci, e temo che anche Gesù stia facendo schioccare la frusta contro questi moderni mercanti nel Tempio.

Da scrittrice, i loro fogliettini dell'incontro mensile mi danno l'orticaria. Credo che fosse Umberto Eco che ha detto di evitare i corsivi e le virgolette inutili. Qualcun altro ha detto "Sia il vostro parlare Sì Sì, No No: il di più viene dal Maligno." Da

CI RIPROVIAMO

Non riuscendo a rientrare nei miei blog Wordpress, ho rispolverato questo per documentare il mio cammino di salute mentale.

Andava tutto decentemente fino a qualche settimana fa, tant'è vero che la mia psichiatra mi ha cominciato a ridurre lo Zoloft (Sertralina) fino a toglierlo del tutto.

Ero strafelice, fino a quando non ho cominciato a manifestare sintomi che da tempo non mi capitavano: lacrime in tasca, irritabilità a livelli da serial killer etc. Mi sono detta che era una buona cosa, che ero più in contatto con i miei sentimenti... l'ho detto alla psichiatra e la sua risposta è stata "ci vuole tempo".

Nota: la psichiatra sta a 30 km da casa mia, su brutte strade, e mi tocca farmi portare da mia zia, perché guidare al di là della mia zona di conforto mi mette il panico. Anche le videochiamate mi causano panico. Se non riesco ad andare di persona al suo studio, devo prendere un appuntamento telefonico per 5 minuti di conversazione alle 1930, quando di solito faccio cena; i miei piccoli lettori avranno già indovinato che il telefono mi provoca... crisi di panico! Non recepisco cosa mi viene detto, non riesco a organizzare quello che devo dire, prendo pagine di appunti e ancora non basta: quando riattacco mi accorgo di aver detto un decimo delle cose importanti.

È come se avessi un dolore a una gamba, e il medico mi dicesse di andare da lui a piedi, e poi si irritasse perché il dolore è cresciuto, sono arrivata in ritardo e sono talmente stanca che non riesco a spiegare cosa c'è che non va.

Aggiungiamo che la psichiatra non tiene la mia scheda: ogni volta mi chiede per telefono cosa prendo e da quando. Io cerco di tenere tutto segnato per bene, ma sorge spontanea la domanda... perché devo fare io tutto il lavoro, quando i miei problemi sono in buona parte di natura cognitiva?

Insomma: ieri a pranzo me ne sono andata dal mio bar preferito sbattendo la porta perché c'erano 3 o 4 uomini che urlavano e bestemmiavano. Arrivo a casa, la mia povera zia mi dice due cose semplicissime ("guarda che ho cambiato un asciugamano in bagno... bisogna mettere fuori il sacco della plastica...") e io non capivo cosa diceva. Ero talmente confusa, terrorizzata e frustrata che ho scagliato uno sgabello dalla finestra.

[EDIT: per fortuna non ero a Milano, se no finivo in cronaca nera.]

Allora ho chiesto via WhatsApp un appuntamento telefonico urgente alla psichiatra, per chiedere di poter ricominciare con la Sertralina. Mia zia ha assistito alla conversazione. Dopo aver spiegato la situazione, è cominciato il famoso sketch di Abbott e Costello: "Ricominci con metà Sertralina." "Metà di cosa?" "Di Sertralina."

Una persona meno terrorizzata di me avrebbe chiesto: "Scusi, metà di quale dosaggio? Prendevo la pastiglia da 100 mg; intende dire che devo ricominciare con 50 mg? Oppure intende la pastiglia da 50, quindi devo prendere 25?"

Ma non ero in grado di fare un discorso così articolato, quindi siamo andate avanti per 5 minuti a forza di:

A un certo punto mi sono messa a urlare: "MA SI STA A SENTIRE QUANDO PARLA? NON MI STA DICENDO NIENTE!"

Poi ricordo solo che in qualche modo è emerso il dato fondamentale: 25 mg, metà di 50 mg. È seguito un semplicissimo programma per riportare il mio dosaggio ai livelli precedenti, talmente semplice che accludo qui sotto la foto degli appunti che ho preso prima, durante e dopo la telefonata:

E per la prima volta in circa 2 anni la dottoressa mi ha mandato la ricetta della Sertralina (non la terapia) via WhatsApp. In fondo è stato semplice, ho solo dovuto minacciare di buttare dal balcone la mia sedia dell'ufficio... cosa che ho fatto comunque.

Secondo me ci sono gli estremi per un'accusa di negligenza medica - mia zia è testimone - ma col cavolo che mi procuro altri problemi. Invece mi sto impegnando a trovare soluzioni:

1) Cambiare psichiatra

2 ) Comprarmi gli auricolari per la cancellazione del rumore.

Prova prova. Gli "a capo" funzionano?

OK, bene, magari sarà colpa mia perché non vedo i pulsanti da cliccare, ma la nuova interfaccia... boh, sarà questione di abituarsi. Comunque. Stasera proprio avrei preferito starmene in un angolo tranquillo a crogiolarmi nella gioia di avere un Pescenero con nome e cognome, ma dato che ho seguito le precedenti due partite mi dispiace perdermi la finale. E poi ammetto che le altre due sono state divertenti. Purtroppo non ho trovato la TV Svizzera, quindi ancora una volta eccomi qui a volume spento.

Interessante coreografia d'inizio, ma gli omini in arancione descrivono chiaramente la figura di un calzino che puzza.

Per fortuna oggi è andato tutto bene ai compleanni, ma ho un sonno bestiale. Ecco, una cosa che oggi mi ha dato un po' fastidio è stata vedere quelli che vendevano il tricolore agli incroci. Neanche sapevo che era la semifinale, credevo che fosse già la finale. Sono a casa mia da sola, e sebbene sia divertente vedere le partite con mio padre, me la godrò a volume spento. THERAPY THURSDAY: SUPERHEROES

I told the doc the story of Avengers and Fight Club, explaining how I identify with Bruce Banner and the Narrator. I also mentioned Rorschach but spared her the plot of Watchmen. (Next time.)

Anyway she liked Banner's line in the movie, "This is my secret: I'm always angry." She convened that it applies perfectly to me. We recognized that when I feel other people keep me at a distance, it might very well be that they feel my continuous anger and are uncomfortable.

I boiled the problem down to 3 questions:

1. How do I make myself aware of this state of unceasing rage? She says I'm very much on the right path.

2. How do I make others aware of this perennial rage, in a non-threatening way? Talking would be good but I'm always afraid of losing control. Writing it here in a foreign language is birdbrained but at least it's something.

3. How to USE this unending but dangerous source of energy? This is the trickiest part. Not being Nick Fury, for now I'm observing the phenomenon.

Then she appreciated very much an old and painful memory that is always with me, when I hurt someone without any intention of doing so, blurting out about a rare moment of happiness when the other person was unhappy, and it sounded like I was boasting. The doc invited me to consider this when I feel that others have no thought and respect for me.

She also objected to me saying that I am DIFFERENT. I believe she prefers that I think of myself as a person with problems, but not different.

PSYCHIATRIST FRIDAY

Ok, no increase in meds. Disappointed a bit. I know I have to solve my problems by myself, with the help of the docs, but lately it's so hard.

At least I clarified the most positive attitude to assume towards the treatment: "Help me help myself."

As for my family, the suggestion is a dynamic, adaptive appoach. Manage to set aside some quality time for them, and defend myself when they go berserk.

I thought I'll make some posts detailing my achievements, so I don't forget them.

The idea of getting down from the bus, going home and doing stuff still scares me, because I have no idea how to manage positively my rage. Maybe the first thing is truly acknowledge it.

Another thing is just do stuff, not think about it.

This doc is not convinced my parents will kill each other, either. I hope they are right.

THERAPY THURSDAY

The problem with therapy sessions lately is that I have so many issues they just pour out. I don't even know if I've managed to tell all I wrote below, which anyway I've mostly forgotten. But at the end of the session I managed to tell her about my fear of losing my identity if I stop fighting, and she said I won't if I fight for myself.

So I replied it's hard to fight for myself if I feel like shit, but at that we stopped because it's a cat chasing its own tail.

I'm not sure if she told me I should demand from her to make me better or if I shouldn't, but tomorrow I'll see her psychiatrist colleague and we'll talk about it again. We talked about the interesting concept of alliance - that I should ally with my family even while I disagree with them, I should ally with the docs which clearly is still a confused issue, and I should ally with myself which is the hardest thing.

I did pitch the idea of bringing my father to therapy, but for the moment we left it on the back burner. I had the feeling that even the doc underestimates the hostility between my parents. Am I afraid for their physical safety only because I'm afraid of everything? Am I trying to defuse the situation wrongly?

CAN'T LIVE WITH THEM, CAN PROBABLY KILL THEM UNDER ITALIAN LAW

The other day Dad asked for a document from Mom in the kindest, most normal tone in the world, and she started ranting and raving and screaming that she's fed up of being abused.

A little later I saw Dad walking in the garden. He looked normal, but I started crying.

I had a strange sensation of relief, as in "Mom is mad, I can't do anything for her, I'm free." But I also felt desperation for the same reason, and the instinct to stay and try to avoid damage like a UN observer.

This event is the most extreme case of a situation that has become commonplace in their household. My Mom can chat like the sweetest person, engage you in deep conversation, support you and kiss you on the head when she sees you struggling -

... but if you ASK her for something, or even let yourself be overheard wondering where you put your glasses, she flies into a rage and HAS TO HELP WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT, MAKING YOU FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE SHE FEELS ABUSED.

Next moment, sweet as honey.

She did this since I was born. No wonder that today I feel completely lost and devoid of personality, a nothingness. I exist to fight the world and humanity, that no matter how beautiful they may seem, they can turn on you like a rabid dog any moment, without provocation.

Paradoxically, this becomes your only identity, the defining trait of your personality, without which you don't exist.

Maybe this is the reason why I keep going back up there. I've been working a lot with my therapist about this, and it's not as simple as "they are my only family".

Maybe it's also the reason why I find so much difficulty lately in doing even the smallest things. The "soldier" mindset has dominated my mind: everything is a danger, therefore everything is to be avoided, even doing laundry.

But today I had an idea. I didn't find an ally, but I found a new strategy. I tried to confront Dad with Mom's condition. He replied that there is no problem, but with such anger and unreasonableness that denial is not just a river in Egypt, it's the ocean that swallowed Atlantis!

So I decided I'll take him to therapy in 2 weeks. (The doc doesn't know yet, muahaha.) Why? I'll have to think of a good reason because the doc will ask, but this idea quite thrills me.

PIGEONS

Thank you for making me cry, upstairs neighbour and 3 different crews of workers who THIS FUCKING SUMMER 2011 noticed our water-heaters' exhaust tubes were out of date, didn't bother to ring ME or leave me a message or tell our very kind porter (who would surely have warned me), and absently mentioned it IN FUCKING DECEMBER 2011, so we had to call the plumbers and substitute them RIGHT ON TIME FOR PIGEON MATING SEASON, and they DEVASTATED my pigeon protections (harmless spikes) on the veranda where the boilers are, without even asking for our help, to the point that later I could not even find all the pieces again, so I had to rig up something because suddenly NO MARKET SHOP BRICOCENTER IN THE WHOLE FUCKING UNIVERSE HAS THE SPIKES ANYMORE, and the pigeons got into our veranda.

And here I started to cry, which I do regularly when I think about it, because last spring I already had to clean one dead egg and one dead pigeon fetus from a basket. Pigeons are the most hated animal here in the city, but when the same couple (or not) comes every year to our veranda and I begin to recognize their markings, I do mind them covering everything in guano, but I'm more upset by having to pick up their dead offsprings because we use the veranda, we can't help but disturbing the female and her eggs or hatchlings. I can't see or even imagine an anymal being hurt, I'm getting worse and worse, I guess it comes with middle age. Finally last year a youngling managed to grow up and fly away, and we cleaned everything and put up the pigeon-proof spikes that were torn up by the plumbers.

So the pigeon got in again. At first I tried to shore up the defences while they were still building the nest, and what made me cry first was the pathetic things they brought in, twigs and dry leaves, and I regularly threw them away. Anyway they happily marched over my coat hangers and silvery ribbons. I was satisfied that they were ignoring their usual place, until one day I went out to get a bottle of water and I saw a suspiciously ALONE pigeon fly away from a corner, as in "hatching mother". While she was away I peeked into the corner and found a pile of plastic buckets and basins, and inside the top one was the still-empty but complete nest.

What the hell was I supposed to do? Throw it away while maybe the female was ready to lay her eggs? Of course. I couldn't do it and I cried some more.

Sure enough, one day that I went out noisily forgetting we had a mommy pigeon in the corner and she flew away, I looked in and there are 2 white eggs. I cried again.

Today the wind tore away some more protection, and it was a paradox, me trying to pull down all that useless stuff and scaring the poor beast even more. I was so angry that I went back in and wrote this, even knowing my aunt will kill me when she learns there are pigeons (hopefully) hatching on her veranda. I wanted to write some long-due fanfic and instead here I am crying over pigeons. All this when we could have fixed it all during the winter if those brain-deads had just FUCKING WARNED ME IN SUMMER.

At least Harry Potter fans have had a glimpse of Jason Isaacs. Doesn't make up for the lack of nomination for Alan Rickman, but...

And I do have to pause the viewing here, because Chris Plummer WINS - some fifteen years after I fell in love with him as the Duke of Wellington in "Waterloo", coming out of a dark period and beginning a better one which has given me many of the best friends I have. (Re-enactment anyone?) It seems he's the oldest Oscar winner at 82, but he looks younger than Nick Nolte, who's frankly scary. His speech is funny and moving. GO CHRIS!

WOOO there's the sweet doggie from Beginners, one of the reasons why I cried so much during that movie! (SPOILER: The dog ends up all right.)

Penelope Cruz has a really lovely dress and jewels.

Hmmm, we're going to get an eyeful of Colin. Did I mention he was awesome in Tinker Tailor in the role nobody would ever guess?

Directing: The Artist wins. I confess this too disappoints me. I should see the movie but it doesn't attract me in the least.

Oh, you mean the dog is from the Artist and not Beginners? This could be a reason to watch the Artist.

Meryl's gold dress is beautiful but not very flattering for her.

Oh my, the tribute to the departed movie people of the year, among which Liz Taylor. This is usually a beautiful montage. People wonder why I'm so crazy about the Oscar, well, it's for these simple but beautiful things.

Natalie Portman's dress is nice too, but I perceive a trend: classical lines with simple diamonds (!) at the neck and ears.

Lead actor: this better not disappoint me...

Eh, the clip they choose for Gary is the same I thought was his best scene, the imaginary conversation.

Ok, I'll console myself with the sight of Colin Firth, the Oscar winner starring as a supporting, TOTALLY insignificant character in Tinker Tailor (ok, sorry, I'll stop now!)

I'm even more in admiration of Viola Davis for the transformation she underwent for The Help. Well, Rooney Mara is impressive too!

Colin is so funny, remembering Mamma Mia with Meryl.

Ah, predictable victory of Meryl. I wonder if I've missed something of that movie. Is she... trying to put the Oscar in a pocket? OK, after this I'll start touting Meryl as the Blackfish.

Well, that's it. I've had a great pleasure and a couple of other satisfactions, so I'm glad I've done this. Now I have a splitting headache and I'm going to eat something though it's 1am. Resuming usual internet activity tomorrow!

OSCAR NIGHT, DELAYED

I've been incommunicado for days as I finished watching the Oscar candidates and then avoided "spoilers" about the outcome, which was revealed last night. I still know nothing but I'm about to watch a rerun of the ceremony, so YAY! It's like the real thing!

Actually I haven't watched ALL the movies nominated for the main sections. An illustrious absence is "War Horse", that got stranded somewhere and I wasn't able to watch it as I would have liked, since it was one of those that most interested me. Also, yes, I watched only those that attracted me, and I would have watched "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" and "My Week with Marilyn" if I had discovered sooner what they were about. Oh well, I have a feeling that these three won't be among the top runners.

So, here are my thoughts and predictions about what I've seen:

BEST PIC:

The Help: A likely winner in many categories. I loved "Tinker Tailor" too, which wasn't nominated (and I can understand why, I may write a specific post later), but "The Help" is a really fine movie.

Hugo: A solid contender. I liked it despite seeing it in 3D which I find pretty but distracting. I love movies about movies (see Inglorious Basterds) and movies with a historical theme. Also, Scorsese can't do much wrong.

Midnight in Paris: Sorry Woody, I dislike movies with a POINT, that drive the POINT in your brain, despite the unbelievably grotesquely hateful 21th century people, while the past was of course lovely, if you get the POINT. Even the moral at the end - nobody likes their own times - did not save the 21th century and the USA in particular from getting an especially negative treatment. Best scene: Adrien Brody as Dalì. I was in tears of laughter.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

I've seen only Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and I bet on Gary Oldman. He's long overdue for an Oscar and he was frighteningly intense as Smiley, wisely going for a wholly different approach from Sir Alec Guinness' historical interpretation. Best scene: Smiley describes his meeting with Karla and loses touch with reality.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

As much as I was curious about seeing Kenneth Branagh finally playing his idol Sir Laurence Olivier, I'm all for Christopher Plummer. "Beginners" is the most depressing movie I've seen in a long time, despite being a celebration of life and love, but Chris (who lost 2 years ago to the utterly deserving Christoph Waltz) is terrific, and he's even more overdue for an Oscar than Gary!

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

Glenn Close, "Albert Nobbs": Scary, lovely, a victim in a world of female victims (I might have some more to say about this one too), much more effective in my view than...

Meryl Streep, "The Iron Lady": I wanted to like it, there were some gems (Viserys Targaryen as young Dennis Thatcher!), but I found it overacted, and unbalanced in the fantasy depiction of Maggie's hallucinating mind.

Viola Davis, "The Help": I loved all the ladies of this movie, even the bad ones (trapped in their narrow minds, as the book says) and I have a feeling it might be a sweep. Hard for me to choose between Glenn and Viola, both portraying defiant outcasts.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Jessica Chastain, "The Help": I adored her character of the misleadingly vacuous Celia, and it's a tough battle with...

Octavia Spencer, "The Help": another tough lady who stole the show!

Janet McTeer, "Albert Nobbs": I loved her ~~sweet vulnerability~~ in-your-face attitude, but I don't believe she has many chances with the above-mentioned powerhouses. (sorry, I was thinking of the wrong character - I loved much of that movie!)

DIRECTING

Between "Hugo" (Martin Scorsese) and "Midnight in Paris" (Woody Allen) I personally have no doubt, but not having seen the other candidates I might have some surprises.

Scrivo da un treno che sta lasciando Padova... sarebbe più romantico dire che scrivo da Padova, ma credevo di avere un'ora di tempo e invece ho trovato subito la coincidenza. Ero solo di passaggio e non ho avuto neanche tempo di dare un'occhiata alla patria di mio papà, che il prof. Boskovits mi ha fatto amare ancora di più.

Il mio professore di Arte Medioevale se n'è andato il 22 dicembre, e il primo pensiero va alla sua famiglia e amici e ai tanti studenti che gli hanno voluto bene negli anni. I miei pensieri e le mie preghiere sono con loro. Se volete sapere di più su di lui, cercatelo su Wikipedia... sì, era fico a tal punto.

Quanto a me, mi rimane l'enorme rimpianto di non aver fatto qualcosa che, lo capisco solo ora, non potevo fare a causa del mio disturbo mentale e non dipendeva da me - ma non per questo fa meno male. Ho seguito il suo corso nel 1994, e in questi 18 anni sono stata troppo terrorizzata per andare a salutarlo, ringraziarlo per quello che ha fatto per me e parlargli del romanzo che il suo corso mi ha ispirato - uno dei tanti che, dopo un anno di penosa riflessione sulla mia vita, ho intenzione di sistemare e pubblicare al più presto, ma troppo tardi per il prof. Boskovits.

Non so se basterà un viaggio in treno per dire tutto, ma ci provo o non ritroverò mai più il coraggio. Lui non spiegava un'opera d'arte: raccontava una storia. Non partiva dalla fine, "quadro di Tizio che si trova al museo tale"; no, lui cominciava, con il suo inimitabile accento: "Vasari racconta che anni prima, in una chiesa oggi distrutta, si trovava un polittico che la tradizione popolare attribuiva a Caio, ma che sul retro recava una scritta semicancellata..." E noi pendevamo dalle sue labbra.

Il suo capolavoro fu l'ultima parte del corso, Altichiero e Iacopo Avanzi. Il romanzo era già lì pronto. Un pittore relativamente famoso, ben documentato, ma inspiegabilmente confuso a ripetizione con uno o più Avanzi, semisconosciuti, forse bolognesi... ma di sicuro Altichiero lavorò con qualcuno nella Cappella Lupi al Santo di Padova, perché si distinguono chiaramente due mani, armonizzate fra loro e allo stesso tempo diversissime. La seconda mano viene identificata con quella dell'unico Iacopo Avanzi che abbia lasciato un'opera firmata, una Crocefissione che si trova a Roma - caratterizzata dallo stile brusco e innovativo della seconda mano della Cappella Lupi, opposta e attratta dalla prima mano, molto più classica e dolce. La prima mano viene ormai identificata con sicurezza con Altichiero, e il prof. Boskovits (anche se nella storia che ci raccontò non parlò di sè) ha contribuito a far luce sul suo collaboratore Iacopo Avanzi, ma... perché un documento parla dell'abbassamento delle impalcature per "IL pittore"? Quale? E l'altro? E perchè nell'adiacente Oratorio di S. Giorgio, in un ciclo di affreschi attribuito ad Altichiero, si dice che si vedesse un tempo la firma "Avantus"? Ma se andate a controllare oggi, la firma non c'è più...

Il fuoco non divampò subito. Il professore ci portò in un fantastico viaggio di studio a Treviso, Verona e Padova, e ciascuno di noi doveva preparare un argomento da illustrare in loco ai suoi compagni. A quanto pare non mi battei per i miei eroi perché scelsi il Battistero di Giusto de' Menabuoi in Padova (un altro capolavoro) e quello occupò tutta la mia attenzione. Solo pochi mesi dopo, all'esame, ero disperata perché il professore chiese A&A alla ragazza prima di me.

Mentre studiavo avevo schizzato i ritratti di Altichiero e Iacopo sul programma del viaggio, in cui il prof ci avvertiva di portare il "binicolo". Tempo dopo scoprii che il profilo di Altichiero era quasi identico al presunto autoritratto nell'Oratorio. Il mio inconscio aveva estratto un'informazione che avevo dimenticato di conoscere? Una coincidenza perché in fondo i profili degli uomini medioevali sono tutti un po' simili? O un segno?

Imola '94 probabilmente contribuì alla mia passione nello scrivere il romanzo, una storia di morte prematura ma anche di bellezza e amore che non hanno fine. Non ne feci nulla, come al solito. Qualche anno fa un viaggio a Padova riaccese l'entusiasmo e sottoposi il romanzo a una revisione, ma ancora non bastava a renderlo pubblicabile. Poi arrivò l'infatuazione per qualche altro periodo storico che su base annuale o biennale mi spinge a scrivere un romanzo. Ma per tutto il tempo sognavo di chiedere consiglio al prof. Boskovits. Non ho mai trovato il coraggio.

E ora non posso più farlo. Spero almeno che, dovunque si trovi, lui adesso sappia quanto lo ammiravo e quanto gli devo. Grazie, prof. Boskovits, e confido che abbia portato il binicolo.

SOCIAL PHOBIA STRIKES AGAIN

When a trip begins with your backpack falling under a streetcar, you should seriously reconsider your options.

Note 1: my backpack and its contents suffered no damage. Also, it wasn't my fault.

Note 2: I was honoured and overjoyed for having been invited by a friend to her birthday party. Ripeto: ero onorata e strafelice di essere stata invitata al compleanno di un'amica. (fico il blog biligue! mi piace di più così.)

Note 3: I was PMSing like no tomorrow.

I spent the 2 days previous to the trip in a state of terror. Now I can tell why. If there's a positive meaning to the awful way I feel, it's that I'm getting to understand better what happens inside of me.

But it's like self-vivisection.

Briefly: The party was crowded and I had another case of my acute sociophobia, which made me feel like all of my friends' quips (objectively debatable, such as the rape ones) were a personal slur to me. I didn't react too badly, except at the end when I yelled "F*ck George Lucas, GRRM and JK Rowling" and the host invited me to be quiet for the sake of the neighbours, and I replied "That's OK, they need to know too!"

Note 4: I was sober, despite strenuous efforts to get drunk.

From all this, I drew 2 conclusions.

1. The change in my friends' lifestyle, and the non-change in mine, and the subsequent loss, led me to a condition of actual mourning (= lutto). As with any mourning, it takes time to overcome it. It takes tears and sadness and maybe a change of scene (going back to my folks) but it's natural. So I shouldn't be shocked or ashamed by it.

2. The change in my friends' lifestyle made me feel more different and wrong than ever. Being different means being wrong, and deserving of elimination, because when I was a baby my mommy needed help too, but the times were not right (they are not right yet), so she threw all her frustrations on me.

Thus, when people make jokes in bad taste but in good spirit, I can't tell the difference. They are all directed towards my elimination because I am different and wrong.

I hope it's clear that it's all in my mind, and that understanding is a BIG step towards healing. But for now, it's painful, like the blending of mourning and my own impending elimination. I hope this explains the way I felt on Sat evening.

Then there's another can of worms when I wonder why people should NATURALLY act sexist, homophobic, intolerant, sociopathic (different from sociophobic - at least we sociophobics stay in our corner and hurt nobody) and this behaviour be considered normal, while we who resent it are told to grow a thicker skin.

But I bought the Beatles mug and pillow and an Old Glory shawl, so I'm happy. In your face.

WHAT'S UP WITH THE BEATLES?

Well, Paul is touring Italy, Ringo is Ringo, John and George are still sort of dead...

Oh, you mean WHY all of a sudden I'm crazy about the Beatles? Don't worry. When I begin my psychedelic novel where Ringo saves JFK, start worrying.

It WAS sudden. I went to see Van de Sfroos on July 7 and the billboard listed a Ringo Starr concert the following evening. I thought "Cool" and went my way. Now I'm green with envy because I can't go see Paul in his Italian tour. What the hell happened since July 7?

I was a late-comer to... not really Beatlemania, more like Beatleology. I know it happened several years after George's death, because I don't remember being especially moved by it. But I love mysteries, so I got curious about the "Paul is Dead" controversy. (Paul is totally alive, by the way). On the various sites that try to prove John says "I buried Paul" instead of "Cranberry Sauce", there were samples of songs and they made me tap my foot. But that was all until...

Actually George's death has a meaning. It happened exactly 10 years ago to this day, about a month and a half after 9/11. That's also the reason why I'm writing today about this phenomenon that must have all my friends scratching their head. Those days and the ten years (of therapy) that followed saw my brain go to hell and begin to climb back, not to heaven but at least to cooler zones. Lately it's a rather productive but confused time, as you've read below, and somehow those tunes came back to my head. My dear cousin Luca had given me the Beatles' complete songs years ago, so I dug them out.

Oh wonder! They had a calming effect on my brain. Brain waves, endorphines, serotonine, dopamine, assorted neurotransmitters, what you will - that was it. I could have listened (and do) to them all day. I quickly made up my playlist which includes one of the most beautiful songs I had no idea existed, "Fool on the Hill".

I can also say the Beatles were THE music when I was born. And with this I've dated myself, but I can also relate this sudden passion to the desire of better understanding the times when I was born.

It might also be an early childhood memory - maybe Mom listened to them while she was pregnant, though she denies it. I know that from a very early age I thought that "Yesterday" was one of the most depressing songs ever.

And since I can't leave a good thing alone, I started researching, hence Beatleology. I love complex things, layered things. Right now I've come to the conclusion that the Beatles were a carefully confectioned canned product, everything calculated to make money. But this doesn't spoil my appreciation of their songs; I can keep the two fields separated. And despite the commercialization, those kids had fun, at least in the beginning, and it showed. They were young, beautiful, noisy, brotherly, happy to do their thing. It's a joy to watch videos such as Your Mother Should Know, artfully choreographed - and yet there they are, Ringo out of step (of course), John almost falls from the staircase, George struts his stuff like a boss... you can't help laughing with them. I know it wasn't like that outside the set, internal tensions tore them apart, but if they make me happy for 3 minutes, they've done their job and deserve their money.

Though this doesn't spoil the experience for me either, I'm uneasy about the drug issue. It seems the "clean-faced boys" where stoned 24/7 except when they were working, especially John and in a lesser measure George. Paul and Ringo were more restrained. But I'm uneasy about it in general. I don't do drugs but I do beer - is that so different? However, I don't want to go into much detail, but drugs have acquired a significance I despise - part of the anarchic philosophy "you can do anything, you have every right and no duties, and f*ck the police." Alcohol, though just as dangerous, never had that connotation.

But the Beatles lived at a time where drugs were taken for granted in certain scenes. George has much to say about it. He tried LSD for a time, then he realized he didn't need it anymore; it had been just a phase. He also says (in another life I'll post the exact quote) that Paul kept his drug use to himself, and when the press questioned him about it, he replied "For me it's a private matter, it's you who come digging after it." It's debatable, but the Beatles never came out and said "Do drugs, it's cool." George also says that Paul "saw God" after his first LSD experience. I did too, after my first good beer!

George, George, George. He's my fave because he's preternaturally handsome (and, Bro has added, dead). I like all the others; I think if I had to crush heavily for one of them it would be Ringo, the Prince of Underdogs. Paul is cute and I love what he did after the Beatles; John is brilliant, funny, intellectual, but overexposed, and I hate "Imagine" (before you delete me from your friends, I adore "Happy Xmas War Is Over", "Instant Karma", "Give Peace a Chance" - and I'm still studying).

But I've researched George and found his complexity fascinating. His search for the meaning of life, common to us all, has lead him to Hinduism. A very interesting website is Hari Georgeson (one of his nicknames), by a German fan, with many enlightening interviews. He found his spiritual peace, and so I wanted to learn from him, Guru Hari, though remaining a Catholic.

He talks about his masterpiece My Sweet Lord, saying that Hinduism allows the personal experience of the Lord Krishna. He was raised a Catholic, and says the Church does not encourage the personal meeting with Jesus (whom he considers a great guru). He says the Pope should lead his flock more towards this mystical experience. Having the mystical experience, meeting Jesus face to face, has been one of my concerns as a Catholic since forever. I almost reached it beneath the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem where I received my mission. George, if you can read me, the Pope DOES preach the mystical experience, but also how difficult it is... just like you said. The problem is that the Pope says so in his Sunday Angelus, but who spreads the word? Some websites and nothing else, that's the problem of the Catholic Church. Luckily B16 is internet-savvy.

And what if it's true that Krishna = Kristos, as George says? Ah, it's a win-win situation. If in the end you face Krishna, he'll praise you for following Guru Christ; if you meet Christ, he'll save you because you've been among the "righteous who in peace with God have left this world" (it's a quote from the Mass but I can't find the correct English version). I'm sure George is over there waiting for us, one way or the other.

MY RIGHT FOOT - live blogging

I'll tell you later how it happened, but I've just dismantled a wheelchair. Wanted to share.

So this morning I was walking to the local library at my folks' to do volunteer work. The plan was to leave for Milan in the afternoon; I'd miss my abs class but I really wanted to work at the library.

I had my new camera with me (long story) and I was taking pics of the place, which btw is lovely, a steep country road with ancient courtyards all around and pebbles on the asphalt that make it very easy to slip... Which I did. And in falling I protected the camera with both hands, didn't grab the rail and my ankle twisted 90 degrees under me.

(btw, I'm a code green. Deferrable urgency. Go me.)

My aunt exclaimed "The camera!" You see, she has my same priorities! Calmly I replied "No, the ankle." There wasn't much pain and I could walk on it (you should never do that...) but my blood pressure sank suddenly to Australia.

I sat on a low wall and got my breath back. As soon as I felt stronger I got up and hobbled to the library. I happily spent the morning moving boxes of books, with just a little soreness. I flatly refused the idea of the hospital. Strangely, I mostly felt tired and detached.

I knew at once the rational thing was to get checked. I'm not afraid of hospitals. Radiations don't bother me, I very rarely get x-rays. I can't get bored in the waiting room; teh internetz and my own mind are entertaining enough. And yet I was reluctant to go.

I guess I was afraid of what did indeed happen. At home my parents took charge in their own belligerent, passive-aggressive way. I can remember one exchange as example: Me: "OK, I'll go to the f*ing hospital!" Mom: "Do what you want, you're not doing us any favours!" And then the usual infighting between them. I so wanted my aunt to drive me instead of them. But they wanted to be there. Hey, thanks, do all you can for an ankle, but spend my youth accusing me of rudeness when I had my undiagnosed panic attacks. Ok, I'll stop with this now.

Then we ate and I just needed a beer to calm down. I hopped to the garage, took a pack and it fell from my hands. HORROR. Luckily the only damage was that one cap got dislodged and foam started to come out. I should just have poured it into my mouth, instead I tried to reach the kitchen, spraying beer everywhere. It was comic but, given my mood, my muthaf*ing language worsened dramatically from that point.

During lunch, usual neurotic conversation with Dad wanting to know all, not only about my fall, but about the loss of my old camera. I hate convos that sound like cross-examinations, questioning everything I say. "But why did you do that? How, where, when? Couldn't you... Remember the time when you lost the bag at..." I know he was trying to cheer me up but I had to stop him please, I could not stand to remember all the times I forgot something somewhere.

(I'm here in the anteroom with the gurney door open and my right leg naked to mid-calf. In a while they'll have to amputate for frostbite.)

Then followed the usual anxiety trip with Dad pretending he was Vettel and Mom being bitter. They were so serious and snapped if I tried to joke. I'm surely exaggerating, remembering only the bad things while they were awesome, but there has to be a reason for it.

The guardian directed us to the entrance and Mom insisted that I sit on a wheelchair. The right leg support, the one I needed, did not work. As I tried to fix it, it came out in my hands.

So here I am, on a wheelchair, with gurneys coming and going inches from my outstretched, frozen foot, and injured people all around. This is the part that's beginning to affect me.

Better pull out my Beatles book. I'll keep you posted.

Had the x-rays. While I had to keep my right ankle still, my left thigh cramped.

Now waiting in corridor and writing sex scenes for a RP (told you I'm rarely bored), when in comes Dad. Back to the Beatles while I wait for the results.

As I'm waiting I remember another couple of things. One of the things that made me anxious was my mother saying "Let's agree on a version of the facts." The hell? She wanted me to say that I

THERAPY THURSDAY: FIGHTING PANIC (and winning?)

Last time I wrote about my mother: "I would like to feel compassion and not anger towards her, to accept her as she is and not try to change her. And then move on. But I'm not sure I suffer because we're trying to change each other, as my therapist suggests. I don't seem to be able to tell the difference between suffering for the irrational state she's in, and suffering because I want to change her. Is it wrong to wish she was healthy and at peace?"

I related this doubt to my therapist, along with 2 or 3
occurrences when I've felt panic (and shame, and rage) but controlled it. I jump to the ending: to clarify my confusion, the border line between sincerely wanting my mom to get better, and being oppressed by it, is rage. As long as I get angry at my mother for being irrational, our relationship is unhealty.

We didn't delve too much about my staying up at my folks' a lot, so from that side the situation is more or less unchanged. More interesting are the implications of having successfully fought panic in several occasions.

Minus: I'm never able to tell why exactly I've managed to resist; it seems random. I'm still afraid of catastrophic relapses like the infamous "Golden Age" crisis, the absolute worst in decades (I hadn't hurt myself like that since high school, I think).

Plus: it may seem random, but there's a ciclopic work behind it. And the reason for overcoming my panic is not a mystery: it's my oft-desired acceptance. Ok,I'm absent-minded, my mom mistreats me, sometimes the world seems to conspire to scare and hurt me; I accept it. I AM scared, hurt, frustrated; but what happens has no reflection on me. There are times I can't do anything; I accept that.

... ABOUT THE BLACKFISH

Oh yeah, Brynden. The recipient of the uncontrollably immense Eros part of my love. Therapy report ends here, whining begins. I'm fed up with people putting him down on the GoT boards. I'm OK with people supporting their favourites. I'm ok with people discussing rationally why they are more important than the Blackfish. I'm not ok with people saying "nobody cares about the Blackfish, he's overrated anyway." It's factually wrong because there ARE people who like him, and only GRRM can say whether he's overrated or underrated.

I lost it the other day, calling a guy a troll and slamming the virtual door behind me. Wrong reaction, but hell, is it too much to ask for a little respect for others' opinions and likes? Unfortunately yes, it's too much; all boards are like this, and if one suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, they are not a safe place. Normal people are not so upset by such things, but imagine a cat lover who's allergic to cats. She enters a room full of cats. She would like to stay and pet them all, but after a minute, whoops, she stops breathing. That's me on the GoT boards. Now imagine a large group of people in a small room, and one brings his cat without asking. There's a high probablility someone will start sneezing! So please, don't bring your cat to boards - I mean, please, be nicer to other people.

I write this, which makes me feel quite weak and ashamed, because I would like that more people understood the brain is an organ just like the lungs, it reacts strongly to certain stimuli, and it can suffers from disorders just like any other body part. This is not something one can grow out of or "grow a thicker skin". It's a disease, it's treatable (painfully) and it's more common than most believe, which deserves some respect.

Brynden is not just my ASOIAF crush, he is my mirror image. I've invested in him probably too much, but what can I do? Through him I've learned to know myself better. Writing about him relieves my loneliness and helps me express my unspent love. And yet, when I go to the boards and see him put down, I feel once again different and "wrong".

That's why I was mad and depressed on Thursday.

THERAPY THURSDAY REPORT

Rieccomi con la depressione e l'apatia senza una ragione apparente. Non so dove ho trovato l'energia per cominciare a scrivere questo post. Probabilmente perché dovevo per forza uscire prima che il dottore chiudesse per avere le mie ricette, e lavorare su qualcosa per qualcun altro. Questi sono i miei momenti di super-ispirazione. Uscire mi ha fatto bene - sarei perfino andata in palestra, se non avessi mancato del tutto il corso di addominali. Ma non è così semplice.

Giovedì mattina dalla terapista non riuscivo neanche a mettere insieme una frase coerente, il che significa che ero in un lieve stato di panico (lo stato acuto è quando lancio le sedie). Ho parlato e parlato. Ero anche molto confusa sul problema centrale delle nostre conversazioni recenti, ovvero i miei "weekend estesi" a casa dei miei.

Credo che stia cercando di suggerirmi indirettamente di stare un po' più lontana da loro. Non può dirlo e basta; credo che non sia una tecnica psicanalitica efficace, e nel mio caso, come il mio alter ego in ASOIAF, sa che non reagisco bene a sentirmi DIRE cosa fare. Credo che stia aspettando che io lo capisca da sola. Ma la mia strategia del momento è mantenere una maggiore distanza fra me e i miei pur restando là. Proprio questo weekend ho sopportato un'alluvione di irrazionalità con la massima calma esteriore. Dentro di me ero convinta che avrei spaccato qualcosa. Non l'ho fatto.

Ovviamente, come faccio a sapere che funziona davvero? Come faccio a sapere che non andrò più in crisi con loro? Non lo so. Sembra tutto così causale. E tuttavia questa volta (e un'altra volta in precedenza) ha funzionato.

Ho detto alla terapista che vorrei convincermi che mia mamma era malata proprio come me ma non le è passato per la mente di provare una terapia. Vorrei provare compassione e non rabbia per lei, accettarla com'è senza cercare di cambiarla. E poi andare avanti. Ma non sono sicura di star male perché cerchiamo di cambiarci a vicenda, come suggerisce la terapista. Non sembro in grado di distinguere fra star male per il suo stato irrazionale, e star male perché voglio cambiarla. E' sbagliato desiderare che stia meglio e sia serena? Mi vien da piangere mentre lo scrivo.

E che lei voglia cambiarmi... Non sono sicura neanche di questo. Di certo non è razionale da parte sua; ma gran parte di coloro che conosco e ame vorrebbe vedere anche me star bene ed essere serena. Il problema è che a causa delle mie esperienze infantili, quando mia mamma mi faceva sentire sbagliata (in un modo che ancora non mi è chiaro - perché si sentiva inadeguata come madre e dava la colpa a me?) invece che semplicemente diversa e sofferente, mi sento ancora sbagliata. I miei attacchi di panico e rabbia non aiutano. Mi sento sbagliata e mostruosa.

Così il problema di essere "sbagliata" è ancora per aria perché sembro incapace di sbrogliarlo, quindi è importante. Ma c'è un motivo innegabile per cui vado a trovare i miei così spesso: ho bisogno di loro.

La vita qui a Milano sta sfaldandosi. Se mi piace uno, sembro fare di tutto per perdere i contatti con lui. Il lavoro è definitivamente andato all'inferno. Ho perso alcuni amici, un pezzo di vita; credo di essermi trovata senza volere dalla parte sbagliata di "bros before hos" - credevo di essere "bro" e ho detto qualcosa che mi ha fatto sembrare "ho" (intraducibile, sorry), e non siamo riusciti a parlarne (se leggete questo, ragazzi, non sono stata io a sparire, e sono sempre qui per parlare). Ho salvato altri amici al prezzo di adattarmi ai cambiamenti e... cavolo, ragazze, mi leggete e sapete che è stata dura; ce l'ho fatta a superarlo proprio perché NOI ne abbiamo parlato, ma mi sento ancora diversa e non riesco ad aprirmi davvero. (Non è colpa vostra, vi voglio bene e ci divertiremo un casino a Lucca.) Vivo una vita non strutturata. Al meglio vado in palestra, che è già qualcosa, ma neanché lì sono riuscita a stringere vere amicizie. E conto le parole di ciò che scrivo, che ultimamente sono state 0.

Confrontiamola con casa dei miei. Cose da fare almeno due volte al giorno, che siano gatti, il giardino, la spesa. Un giorno sì e uno no mangiamo nei nostri posti preferiti, dove si incontra gente di ogni tipo. Ogni weekend c'è una fiera o un anniversario o almeno la messa (ecco un altro Amico che ho trascurato per depressione e disperazione). E' vero che sono quasi tutti anzianotti, ma c'è anche gente giovane. Lassù non sono mai sola. A Milano lo sono quasi sempre.

Se seguissi il consiglio della mia terapista, dovrei compiere un atto di fede e stare di più a Milano, cercare di "andare avanti". Ma l'altro giorno le ho detto letteralmente: "L'ho fatto per anni, e a che caxxo mi è servito?" Non ricordo cosa ha risposto; ve l'ho detto che ero nel panico.

Morale della favola: devo amare qualcuno. Amore come Agape, non necessariamente Eros. Certo, è bellissimo voler bene agli amici di Milano. Ma ho molto più amore da dare, così tanto che trabocca. Quindi lo do a una famiglia che non ho creato, anche se è la causa dei miei problemi, e a un boyfriend immaginario che mi dà tanto dolore da sembrare reale. Ecco cosa dirò alla terapista la prossima volta.

I'm back to depression and apathy without an apparent reason. I don't know where I've found the energy to start writing this. Probably because I absolutely had to go out before the doctor closed for my prescriptions, and work on something for someone else. These are my moments of super-inspiration. Going out did me good - I'd even have gone to the gym, if I hadn't missed the abs class completely. But it's not so simple.

On Thursday morning at the therapist's I wasn't even able to string a coherent phrase together, which means I was in a state of low-level panic (high-level is throwing-chair level). I just babbled on. I was also very confused about the central issue of our recent talks, that is: my "extended weekends" at my folks'.

I believe she is trying obliquely to suggest I stay away from them a bit more. She can't say it outright; I think it's not a good psych technique, and in my case, like my ASOIAF alias, she knows I don't react well to being TOLD what to do. I think she's waiting for me to realize it on my own. But my current strategy is to put more distance between me and my folks' while being there. Only this weekend I withstood an onslaught of irrationality with the utmost outward calm. Inside I was convinced I'd break some stuff. I didn't.

Of course, how do I know it's really working? How do I know I'll have no more crises with them? I don't. It all seems so random. But still, this time (and another time before) it worked.

I told my therapist I would like to convince myself that my mom was ill just like me but didn't have the slightest idea of having therapy. I would like to feel compassion and not anger towards her, to accept her as she is and not try to change her. And then move on. But I'm not sure I suffer because we're trying to change each other, as my therapist suggests. I don't seem to be able to tell the difference between suffering for the irrational state she's in, and suffering because I want to change her. Is it wrong to wish she was healthy and at peace? I feel like crying as I write this.

As for her wanting to change me... I'm not sure about this either. It's certainly not rational on her part; but most everybody I know and love would like to see me healthy and at peace too. The problem is that because of my early experiences, when my mom made me feel wrong (in a way that is still unclear - because she felt inadequate as a mother and put the blame on me?) instead of simply different and in pain, I still feel wrong. My panic-rage attacks don't help. I feel wrong and monstrous.

So this problem of being "wrong" is still up in the air because I seem unable to unravel it, which means it's important. But there's an undeniable fact about me going to see my folks so often: I need them.

Life here in Milan has been unravelling. If I like a guy, I seem to do all I can to lose touch with him. Work has gone to hell for good. I've lost some friends, a chunk of my life; I think I unwittingly found myself on the wrong side of "bros before hos" - I thought I was a bro and said something that made me sound like a ho, and we didn't manage to talk about it (if you read this, guys, I'm not the one who disappeared, I'm always here to talk). I've kept other friends at the price of adapting to changes and... hell, girls, you read me and know it was hard; I've managed to overcome it exactly because WE did talk about it, but I still feel different and can't really open up. (No fault of yours, I love you and we'll have a blast in Lucca.) I live an unstructured life. The best I can do is go to gym, which is something, but I haven't managed to make real friends there either. And count the words of the stuff I write, which lately have been 0.

Compare to my folk's home. Errands at least twice a day, whether it's cats, the garden, the groceries. Every other day we're eating at our favourite places, where you meet all kinds of people. Every weekend there's a fair or an anniversary or at least church (here's another Friend I neglected out of depression and despair). It's true most of the people I see are older people, but there's young people too. I'm never alone up there. I'm mostly alone in Milan.

If I followed my therapist's advice, I should make a leap of faith and stay in Milan more, try to "move on". But the other day I told her literally: "I did that for years, and what the f*ck was it good for?" I don't remember what she replied; I told you I was in panic.

The bottom line is: I need to love someone. Love as Agape, not necessarily Eros. So yes, loving my friends in Milan is good. But I've got much more love to give, so much that it's overflowing. So I give it to a family which I did not create, even though it's the cause of my problems, and an imaginary boyfriend who gives me so much pain he seems real. This is what I'll tell my therapist the next time.

A WEEKEND IN THE LIFE

Andare su dai miei per i weekend estesi mi fa sempre sentire un po' colpevole, per non parlare dei miei ben noti problemi familiari da Sindrome di Stoccolma. Adesso sto tornando a casa, pensando a cosa ho fatto esattamente durante questo weekend.

- Venerdì: sono arrivata all'ora di pranzo, poi il dentista. Ennesimo appuntamento di una lunga procedura per coprire un dente.

- Sabato:
Mattina: discusso con papà di investimenti, pagamenti (queste cose mi ammazzano) e un possibile viaggio in Turchia.
Pomeriggio: catturato il Sassone (vecchio gattone bellicoso) e portato dal veterinario per un taglietto. Speriamo che non torni più a casa con le orecchie lacere e sanguinanti. Poi a messa.

- Domenica:
Mattina: vaghi ricordi di preparazioni per un pranzo con la prozia.
Pomeriggio: passaggio alla Festa della Castagna con scarso successo, e visita a una vecchia amica (vecchia nel senso di ottantenne).

- Lunedì:
Compilato lo stupido censimento, che si meriterebbe un post tutto suo per quanto l'ho trovato offensivo.

- Martedì:
Aiutato papà a costruire una serra per i suoi limoni. Potato qualche siepe.

- Mercoledì:
Mattina: lavoro volontario alla libreria comunale. Ci sono ancora tutti i libri sul pavimento in scatole di cartone piene di polvere, e dobbiamo tirarli fuori e metterli sugli scaffali in un qualche ordine temporaneo.
Pomeriggio: visita a un'amica che si è slogata la spalla, poi treno per Milano.

Tutto il resto del mio tempo è stato occupato da due gattini, temporaneamente in affido da noi, che vivono in camera mia. Non so se mi spiego.

Problema: mi sembra che ci sia così tanta più vita quassù che a Milano, ma probablilmente è più un effetto che una causa. Comunquue, ottimo materiale per il Therapy Thursday di domani...

Going up at my folks' for extended weekends always makes me feel a bit guilty, not to mention my well known Stockholm Syndrome family issues. I'm going home now, and thinking about what exactly I did during this weekend.

- Friday: arrived at lunch time, then dentist. Nth appointment of a long procedure to cap a tooth.

- Saturday:
Morning: discussed with dad about investments, payments (these things kill me) and a possible trip to Turkey.
Afternoon: caught the Saxon (old warlike tomcat) and took him to the vet for a snip. Let's hope he won't come home with bloody ragged ears anymore. Then church.

- Sunday:
Morning: hazy recollection of getting ready for lunch with great-aunt.
Afternoon: desultory visit
to the Chestnut Fair and visit to an old (meaning eighty) friend.

- Monday:
Filled out the stupid census form which would need a post of its own for how offensive I found it.

- Tuesday:
Helped dad build a hothouse for his lemon trees. Trimmed some hedges.

- Wednesday:
Morning: voluntary work at the local library. It's still in the state that books are on the floor in dusty cardboard boxes and we have to pull them out and stack them on the shelves in some kind of temporary order.
Afternoon: visited a friend who dislocated her shoulder, then train for Milan.

All the rest of my living time was occupied by two kittens, temporarily in our custody, who live in my room. Nuff said.

Problem: I feel there's so much more life up there than in Milan, but it's probably more an effect than a cause. Anyway, good fuel for tomorrow's Therapy Thursday...
