The Advantages to Low Cost Airlines and Cheap Flights

There are many low cost airlines around nowadays and this has made the choice of what kind of flight to go on even harder. In today’s article, I would like to discuses some of the advantages of taking a cheap flight, instead of splashing out on a higher prices one.

If you are flexible with your flying times and which airport you are willing to fly to, then low cost airlines are a perfect choice. There are disadvantages, but we will be talking about them at a later point. For now, the advantages;

You Can Save a Bomb

Use the Extra Money

The obvious and main factor, by going on a cheap flight, you can save a lot of money. This is a big advantage because with prices of everything else rising around the world, saving some money can always help. By saving the money on this part of your Santa holiday, you can spend more on other aspects, such as the hotel or activities you do when you are there.

Flights Are Only Short

As well as this, as the flight is only short, what’s the point in paying a lot of money? People normally pay more so that they can be more comfortable when travelling. However, if you are only on the plane for 1 to 2 hours, is there any really need for that much comfort? The planes have to stick to certain regulations, so the space you will get will be enough for this amount of time, meaning there is no point in spending any more to get more comfort.

Get to the Airport

A problem which comes up when travelling with cheap airlines is that they take you to airports which aren’t really that close to where you want to go. However, due to Lapland and Scandinavia only really having smaller airports, you are less likely to suffer from this problem and will most likely be taken to where you need to be.

It’s Just Easier

Booking and then going with a cheap airline is said to be a lot easier, they receive your booking and you’re on it, you get to the plane and you get on. There isn’t all of the hassle which goes with being with a bit airline. The advantages of this? It keeps your stress levels down which will in turn make your holiday a lot more pleasant experience.

In the end, you need to be careful when deciding to go with a low cost airline. However, for a Santa flight, a low cost flight is probably the best way to go, as the flights are only short and you could save quite a bit of money, which can then be used to have more fun whilst your there!

Keeping Up With The Temperature In Lapland

When looking around Twitter this week, I discovered a great service offered by Lappland Times, which is a blog dedicated to giving you the experience of what Lapland if like, from the inside. The great thing I found? Lappland Times offer a service on their Twitter page, so that you can always keep up with the temperature in Lapland. Below is the post from Annie about her service:

We make every effort to keep it updated on a regular basis (ideally daily). Note that what’s special about these entries is that these are real-time informations from people who actually live in Lapland and check their thermometer at their house, car, service station or some place else. These temperatures often differ a lot from temperatures indicated in the weather forecast. God knows why… maybe satellites aren’t that clever after all?

We’re back today with another look into if Santa Flights are destroying Lapland. Last time we looked into the reasons why Global Warming was the cause, this time we will look more closely of noise pollution, which the planes generate when flying across this beautiful part of the world.

What Is Noise Pollution?

Noise Pollution is when humans and animals are disrupted and displeased by sounds which are coming from humans, animals or machinery. Most of this comes from machinery though, which includes transport, such as cars, planes and trains. No one likes noise pollution, but most people learn to live with it, because they have to or you would go crazy!

How Noise Pollution Is Affecting Lapland

Noise pollution can affect is many ways, not only does it cause problems for the environment, but it can also cause a lot of health problems. Many people head off to Lapland each year to escape their normal lives, get a bit of peace and quite and relax. However, with so many Santa flights taking place each year, going to a variety of airports, you can’t help but think… How much do we hear of these flights? And what are they doing to this area?

Noise Pollution can cause stress, annoyance and aggression, which is definitely not what you want to feel on holiday. This is because the sounds are unwanted and in most cases disturb you. As well as this it can course hearing problems; however, this is unlikely to occur when on a short holiday. Because of the above3 problems, Santa Holidays can wrecked and not as peaceful as you wanted them to be.

As well as this above, the noise can affect animals in the same way. For them this increases the risk of death as it interferes with the balance of animals in the area. Meaning that a predators prey may decrease, in turn decreasing the amount of that predator there are. As many people visit Lapland for animals, this is also a very bad affect of noise pollution in Lapland.

Is Noise Pollution a big Problem in Lapland?

I don’t think it is a major problem, although I would like to hear from some of you who live full time in Lapland, as this would give us a good indication of whether what I have said above is true to where you live. Whenever I have been to Lapland, noise pollution hasn’t been a major problem. It has only really been noticeable when staying in hotels near the airport, but this is the price you pay when staying so close to an airport. The rest of the time everything was fine. This Ice Hotel should actually be called a Snow Hotel, due to it being made mainly from snow instead of ice. However, it still meets the requirements for our series, so take a look at the last Ice Hotel is the current Ice Hotels in Lapland and Scandinavia series.

The Ice Hotel in Hunderfossen, Norway

The Ice Hotel opens in late December and is open until the end of March. This depends highly on the weather though. It can hold about 25-30 guests at a time, depending on the year, due to there being less snow sometimes. As well as this, if you happen to know 10 people who want to go away with you, you can even rent the whole hotel out.

There are many activities around the hotel, with an ice bar, fairytale castle and even an ice cathedral for weddings. You can also participate in winter sports nearby, including skiing and snowboarding. If you would like, there are also guided tours to go on.

Temperatures in the rooms of the Ice Hotel vary from about 2-10 Celsius. To keep you warm in the night the hotel provides sleeping bags and a sheep skin to sleep on, there also add to the comfort of the bed. All in all, you should be able to stay relatively warm during your stay.

Location

The Ice Hotel is located in Hunderfossen, which is located north of Lillehammer, Norway. To get here a main Norwegian rail line runs through the town, which you can get on from any of the major cities. This will allow you to fly into a big city and then take the train to the Ice Hotel.
