The last 20 years have been amazing watching the show grow with wonderful dealers that have been with me since I started promoting the show in 1992.

These 3 dealers have participated in the CALM Antiques & Vintage Shows for the last 20 years. They are among 80 quality antiques, vintage and decorative arts dealers. Join us at our next show!

Shari Dubois and Cindy Harris

Shari has been an interior designer for 50 years and during her career she accumulated enough furniture and accessories to open a retail store. She has a passion for antiques and started as a dealer in the CALM Show 20 years ago. She had so much fun that she invite Landscape Designer Cindy Harris to join her 18 years ago. They both love antiques and look forward to all 3 shows every year. Shari says, "It's always a wonderful experience to see all the treasures and people at the show. We wouldn't think of missing a single show!"

PM Treasures Mary Lou Hutchinson

Mary Lou has had retail stores in Solvang for 43 years and her passion for Vintage Jewelry was a perfect fit for her participation in the CALM Show for 20 years since Mother Thede started promoting the show. Mary Lou exclaims, "It's a great show with a wide variety of quality merchandise. Everything is well displayed."

Pat and Harley Bates

With Pat's Romantic and Whimsical Vintage style she and her husband Harley have enjoyed selling at shows for 45 years. She has participated in the CALM show for almost 20 years and just loves the show. Pat commented, "It's a fun whimsical and awesome show. There's something for everyone"

to go for a walk....

a wonderful afternoon surrounded with

the gorgeous gifts Mother Nature bestowed on our

lucky Community!

Ellwood Grove is located at the north westerly end of

Hollister Avenue, just before the Sandpiper Golf Course.

Parking is free and plenty.

Weekends there are Docents at the site to explain

the mystery and wonder of these gorgeous

insects.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, a jacket and bring

your camera!

I haven't been able to get down to the Saturday Market for new photos, so I'm reposting my photos from last year, as I know these Vendors are all there decorated for the Holidays, waiting to share their bounty with YOU!

Winter Solstice in beautiful Santa Barbara is an experience for the senses.

Everywhere the eye wanders, Mother Nature is busily decorating for

the Holidays.

Red Bougainvilla are blooming while Nanadina bushes are showing off

their red berries, as if in competition with Holly! Last of the blooming roses

add to the caleidascope of color. Poinsettias native to Mexico are quite

happy in our climate and this is their time of year to party.

Phyllis is showing off the bounty from the Lash Family

farm...delicious Pistachio nuts.

sweet seedless mandarin oranges right off the tree!

Only in Santa Barbara....cymbidium orchids are beginning to put out their flower spikes.

This wonderful display of nature is available for viewing at our local Farmer's Market!

All the produce, flowers, herbs, nuts, meats and fish, wines, oils and fruit come from the

tri-counties area from individual harvesters.

A visit to any of our Farmer's Markets (6 days a week) is an amazing experience for the senses.

Saturday's Market downtown is the most spectacular of all our markets any time of year,

including December. Open from 8 am to 1 pm, year round, located at the corner of

Santa Barbara and Cota Streets it occupies and entire City Parking lot.

Available this time of year are beautiful wreaths made from locally grown Proteas.

The Market is an education in the diversity of fruits and veggies available locally this time of
year...wines, olive oil, locally grown range beef, pork and poulty, fresh eggs as well as
local fishermen's catch right out of our Ocean. The vendors are happy to give you a sampling
of their goods and tips on cooking, and growing.

It is a friendly and sensuous experience. You will see the local restaurants picking up their orders,
there are even chefs who give classes in cooking with local produce, beginning with a tour of
the Market. Being a Locavore is big in our community.

My visits to the Market are very nostalgic. As a child in Holland I accompanied my Mom to the weekly Market. I can still remember seeing the squirming eel (a Dutch delicacy) as Mom looked around for our dinner supplies. No...there aren't any squirming eel at the SB Farmer's Markets...but you'll find oysters,

local shrimp and such yummies.

Preserving Mother Nature's Bounty

The Art of Canning and Preserving Local

Santa Barbara's semi-tropical climate and numerous micro-climates provides the perfect

temperature for bountiful produce, fruit and vegetables of an amazing variety!

And although Mother Nature continues to provideall year around, we have all become

more interested in having our foods remain in a less processed state.

The best way to insure that our food isn't processed with unpronouncable ingredients,

and to leave a smaller carbon footprint is by becoming a Locavore (one who consumes

local foods as much as possible).

We have numerous fruit trees and quite a large vegetable garden. And then there

are our amazing Farmers' Markets...7 days a week! We can only

consume a limited amount of this goodness, so I have rediscovered the Art of

Putting Up our bounty. For the last three summers I have been making jams,

vegetable sauces, canning peaches and apricots and even making liqeuers

with our fruits.

I saw an article in our local Newspress about Cindy Shipp who has taken the

Art of Canning and Preserving to a higher level. Mentioned was a demonstration

Cindy was giving at the Whole Foods Store. Cindy's demo was incredibly

well attended. Are we all Martha Stewart wannabees?

the country! It got so big that she took her blog to facebook! The tips and recipes

that are shared are worth checking. Hers is one of the most comprehensive Blogs

I have ever seen! Oh did I mention that Cindy's day job is as an IT manager!!!
