After months of waiting, the synopsis for each episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures, series five, is finally here… Excuse me while I SQUEEEE! Wow, what a fantastic looking series we have in store! I for one cannot wait until October 3rd!

'The Complete 4th Season' Announced for DVD: Date, Cost and More

Earlier this month the BBC announced that SJA Series 4 was coming this year, and true to their word they announced today that The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Complete 4th Season will be available on December 6th. The 2-DVD set will cost $29.98 for approx. 360 minutes with six stories, each a 2-parter, coming to 12 episodes in all: "The Nightmare Man," "The Vault of Secrets," "Death of the Doctor," "The Empty Planet," "Lost in Time," and "Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith". The story "Death of the Doctor" features guest stars Katy Manning as Jo Jones (nee Grant) and Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor.

Extras, if any, have not been revealed. Nor is there any word about a possible Blu-ray Disc version (even though one will be available for this title in the U.K.). Full-sized package art for the DVD isn't available so far, but you can see a thumbnail look at the box above and to the right. Lest you lose count, this season isn't the final one for the program! The show had completed exactly half of the fifth series filming before star Elisabeth Sladen ("Sarah Jane Smith") sadly passed away from cancer in April. We'll certainly let you know when the fifth and final season comes to DVD in North America, though, so please stay tuned.

The BBC have today confirmed with the episode synopsis, that series 5 of The Sarah Jane Adventures will air on Monday 3rd October with part one of "Sky" followed by part two on Tuesday.

Part One: In today's episode, Sarah Jane finds a baby girl on her doorstep and tries to find out who abandoned her.

At a nearby nuclear power station, a beautiful woman appears out of thin air and uses alien powers to take control. She's looking for something – and realises that Sarah Jane may just have it...

Part Two: Sky has undergone an amazing transformation, but in doing so has triggered a countdown that no one can stop.

As Sarah Jane and Sky find themselves trapped between the alien war fought by Metalkind and Fleshkind, Clyde and Rani face a race against time to stop the biggest bang in history...

BBC to screen final filmed episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures

The BBC has confirmed it won't be continuing with the show, however, it's been revealed that the final six completed episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures are to be screened. As expected, her untimely death means that the BBC has no plans now to film further episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures. But it has now confirmed that it will screen the episodes that were already shot. The BBC statement reads:
"Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011. As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed."

Once the broadcast date is announced, I'll be sure to report it here.

Elisabeth Sladen, Doctor Who’s Sarah Jane Smith, Has Passed Away

I am saddened to pass along news that Elisabeth Sladen, who played intrepid reporter and Timelord companion Sarah Jane Smith during the Pertwee and Baker eras of Doctor Who, has passed away at the age of 63. The BBC has issued a statement on her passing, noting that she had been battling cancer for a while, but no further details are available. Sladen had been recently reprising her role as Smith to much popularity in appearances on the new series of Doctor Who, as well as the more tween-oriented spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures. She will be sorely missed.

SJA Series 3 DVD release details announced

It's been nearly a year, but it's finally arrived (nearly)! Set to go on sale November 1st 2010, 2entertain have released the cover image for the upcoming complete third series Sarah Jane Adventures box set!

Unlike the sets produced for the previous two series', the new DVD box set only contains two discs and doesn't appear to come in a card case like its predecessors. Let's hope we'll still get some out of this world special features!

With a recommended retail price of £24.99 you'd better act quickly, Amazon is selling it for £12.99 for a limited time only.

Also, hot off the heels of the announcement that the Series 3 DVD box set will be arriving on November 1st, comes good news for American fans as well.

tvshowsondvd.com has reported that the Region 1 version of Series 3 will be released on January 4th, 2011, just two months after its Region 2 counterpart!! No word on extras, but the box art looks very similar.
