Calling amateur craftspersons, for new RTE series Mastercrafter

Mastercrafter

Big Mountain Productions are working with the Crafts Council of Ireland on a new series for
RTÉ that will crown one amateur craftsperson, the winner of Mastercrafter.

There are six shows in the series. The first five shows will place 15 apprentices on an
intensive two-week residential course in the discipline of their choice: Ceramics, Glass,
Metal (blacksmithing), Textiles (weaving) or Wood (wood turning) under the expert
guidance of the relevant Master of Craft.

A judging panel will adjudicate, reducing 15 apprentices down to five allowing just
one apprentice from each discipline to take a place in the final five.

Show six; the grand finale will be recorded later this summer with the winner of
Mastercrafter announced then.

If you are passionate, creative, hard-working and you feel you have real potential to
make it in the craft world, then Big Mountain Productions would love to hear from you.

The ceramics classes start with the basics, though more advanced options are available to you if you feel yourself beyond the beginner label.

Techniques such as hand building pots, sculpting with clay and glazing will be covered to give you the fundamental knowledge of pottery and ceramics that you will need to make your own pieces of finished glazed and fired art work, while relaxing in a professional artists studio.

Thursdays 7.30 - 9.30 starts 7th April 2011
