For those of you that don't know, I'm not the only Sarah Reed in these parts. In fact, my sister in-law is also Sarah Reed (and you thought your family dinners could be confusing!). In addition to being an awesome mother, wife, sister, and friend, she teaches vocal lessons and music and is a VERY talented soprano. She has been in the process of updating her website (check it out here and listen to her lovely voice!) and asked me if I'd be willing to take some new photos for her. Of course, the prospect of spending an afternoon with her taking photos is something I was thrilled with and my niece Emma joined us as my photographer's assistant (and got in on the modeling action herself for a few shots). Here are a few of my favorite shots. Love both of these beautiful ladies!

Beach Vacation

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 09 Aug 2016 22:00:00 +0000

Haven't had a whole lot of time to pick up the camera lately, but I did take it with us on our short beach vacation this past weekend! A few shots from our morning walks on the beach looking for shells.

I can't decide which of the following three I like the best... Help!

Family Fun

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 04 Jun 2016 22:30:00 +0000

We had a fun, but HOT! family photo session this past Memorial Day with family friends. Joan and Marlin have been family friends for years and their family is growing with the recent addition of twin grandchildren in addition to their two other grandbabies. We played around in the shade at the Penn State Arboretum before it got too hot! It was fun chasing after all the littles and catching up with their parents, too!

Oliver and Lily were fantastic and so much fun!

Someone has her daddy's eyes...

Curious about the pool...

These guys handled photos like champs (so did the babies...).

Grandma snuggles are the best!

Playing around

I've been on a bit of a photography hiatus for awhile. Life does that sometimes. BUT, I have a new (to me) lens and the weather has been gorgeous this week, so I did a little shooting. Some of my favs, in no particular order.

This girl. Seriously.

Spring = foals. Which means cuteness overload.

Oh, hello there...

Cecilia

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 26 Aug 2015 00:15:00 +0000

As part of our whirlwind long weekend in PA, I got to spend some fun time with my forever high school best friend and her family. Cecilia turns 11 today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!) and as part of her birthday present, we did a fun photo shoot in her tap costume for this year. Here are a few favorites:

This is my favorite!

Adi wanted to tap dance, too!

Miss A

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 14 Aug 2015 13:00:00 +0000

When did this girl get so big? She's growing like a bad weed, and is getting taller and, well, just OLDER every day. No longer a baby, or even a toddler... I love the little girl she's growing into, her inquisitive mind, her expressions, and just all the feels. All of them. She is my heart.

Mama and Me Session with Mr. B.

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 11 Aug 2015 21:30:00 +0000

I got to spend some fun time this weekend with this little man and his mama. He was fantastic and we had a lot of fun hanging out at the Cove in Wethersfield!

Love those blue eyes!

This is what a 4 year old looks like when he tells you he got to ride on a FIRETRUCK at his birthday party!

Lovin' on mama

I wish we had planned this shot (next time!), because I wish you could read all of Jen's tattoo, which says "I gave him life... he gave me a reason to live."

And finally, the 4-year old version of his favorite super hero, The Hulk. :)

Fun with Emma

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 02 Jun 2015 00:16:00 +0000

We spent last weekend in PA, which meant hanging out with lots of family, including family that lives in Connecticut... funny how that happens... Anyways, we took the kiddos to the park, and while the littles were playing, Emma and I snuck off for some big kid fun. Emma is my cool, independent, crafty niece. More photo dates will definitely be planned. So now, for some spontaneous fun:

Michelle and Doug - Engaged

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 01 Nov 2014 01:34:00 +0000

A few weekends ago, I got to hang out with Michelle, Doug, and their two pups for a fun engagement session. Of course, being New England in the fall, it was chilly and quite windy, but Michelle and Doug were great, and the dogs were awesome, especially Bristol! We started by Mansfield Hollow Dam, and then quickly moved over to the other part of the park when we realized what a wind tunnel the water was creating! :)

Awesome dogs, boots, and a truck. Perfect!

There was a lot of laughter...

and gorgeous leaves...

and Bristol was awesome.

Labs are dear to my heart, but seriously, she's a beautiful dog.

And super well-trained, kudos Michelle!

See? Funny story - she usually does this with treats, so when she was released, she kind of "tossed" the ring with her nose and tried to eat it. Thankfully she missed, but oh my goodness, did it make me nervous!!! We didn't try this shot too many times, haha!

Okay, a ring shot for real.

Michelle and Doug - I hope you enjoy the photos. I had a great time and am sure the wedding will be both beautiful and a blast! Congrats on your engagement!

Fall Fun

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 18 Oct 2014 17:59:00 +0000

This morning we went to Riverview Farms for their Fall Festival. Lots of kid friendly things to do - animals to pet, a bounce house, a hay ride (complete with a pumpkin patch), tractors to climb on and a corn maze! Couldn't resist a few fun shots of Adi and her friends. I love that she's got such great friends (and that they come with amazing parents, too!). Enjoy!

This picture makes me laugh - about now, and clearly the future. I feel like O is thinking "What the heck is A doing/thinking??" He may feel this way a lot in the next 10 years... :)

I really love these next three of Adi. Just something about them...

Gotta love fall in New England...

The Gaspar Family

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 18 Oct 2014 02:18:00 +0000

I spent a bit of time last Sunday with a really fun brother and sister, playing in the leaves and enjoying the fall sunshine. I love taking photos of families I know - it's so much fun to capture the personalities I know are there! Be prepared - lots of photos in this post!

First, some fun in the leaves.

Katie is smart, and kind, and beautiful. This girl has such soulful eyes. Love her!

I know the focus on this one is soft, but for some reason, I really love this shot.

Sam is funny and sweet and gives THE. BEST. HUGS. Love this kiddo!

Haha. This one just makes me smile. Silly faces!

Holly is an amazing woman and such a wonderful mama to these two. I so admire her as a mother, woman of God and wonderful all-around person. So glad I had the chance to take these photos for her family!

Sisters: Miss M and Miss C

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 31 Aug 2014 17:59:00 +0000

Newborn photos are fun (and challenging!) but even more fun when said newborn is your best friend's. A few weeks ago, I got plenty of snuggle time with Miss Maura (14 days old!) and got to hang out with her cool big sister, Ceci. Both are daughters of my best friend from high school (who hates the camera and always has, so I didn't force her to be in the pictures... yet...). Kids are always fun to take pictures of, but it's even more special to me when they are little ones that I love so much! Ceci just turned 10 and is an excellent big sister. Love these girls, and their mama (and Dom, too, just to make him squirm). So enjoy this baby goodness because I sure loved snuggling with her for a few hours.

The Peters Family

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 31 Dec 2013 02:41:00 +0000

Kitty has been one of my best friends forever. No, really, forever. I've known her and her family since I was about 12 years old and we started taking riding lessons together. We grew up together at the barn, shed tears of laughter and sadness together, blood and sweat. She is the little sister I never had, a best friend forever. And yes, that all sounds very cheesy, but it's true. And as close as I am with her, her family has become a second family to me. Her mom was a second mom, her dad another dad, her little brother, another little brother. So when she asked if I'd take some family photos for them over Christmas, I couldn't refuse! It's so much fun to work with people I know well because it's so much easier to draw out personality and the love that this family has for one another.

We had planned for a fun winter session in the snow, but as luck would have it, all 8 inches of snow in PA melted three days before Christmas thanks to 50*F weather and rain. Then, Kitty sent me a message that we may not be able to do the photos because of an illness in the family. But then on Christmas day, it snowed. And we all decided that despite the sad Christmas they had been having, the snow was a sign that we should do the photo session. I'm so glad we did! We had a blast, it was fun to visit, and we played outside in the snow. So here's your sneak peek!

<3 p="">

Proof of how hard it was snowing! It's hard to shoot in the snow - gotta find photos where there's not a snowflake in front of someones face!

Jared caught this behind the scenes shot... Everyone was great about sitting on cold, wet things and pretending they really did like each other! :)

Little Mr. B

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 08 Sep 2013 00:33:00 +0000

I haven't shot for anyone other than myself in awhile, but this morning, I had the chance to get out and play with a very energetic little guy and his lovely mama. Toddler photo shoots are challenging, chaotic, and crazy, but also SO. MUCH. FUN. Seriously. There are laughs and smiles and giggles and snuggles and all sorts of wonderfulness. We shot this session at Wickham Park. I hadn't ever been there before, but trust me, we'll be going back! It's lovely and there are a ton of different options for photos and just plain fun.

Anyways, here are a few favorites from this morning's session. Thanks to Mr. B and his mama for spending some time with me this morning!

Look out ladies. This guy has baby blues and isn't afraid to use them!

Love having smiles all around!

The best thing about toddlers is seeing the world through their eyes. Sticks are magical and airplanes are cause for wonder!

Ahh, those blue eyes!

And of course, some fun on the playground after our official shoot was over!

Miss J - Senior Portraits

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 04 Jun 2013 14:58:00 +0000

So you may have noticed that I haven't posted much here lately... like in five or six months! Life has been busy with the little one, work, and, well, life in general! But when Wendy emailed me a few weeks ago about doing Jessica's senior portraits, I couldn't refuse. Why? Because this family has been close friends with our family forever. Because Jessica was the flower girl in our wedding (Yikes! If that isn't enough to make you feel old, I don't know what is!). Because I've been SO itching to get back out with my camera, and who better to do it with then a lovely young lady who is a ton of fun? And really, I got to hang out with the whole family during our shoot, which was an added bonus! It turned out to be pretty cold and windy the day of our photo shoot, but Jessica dealt with the cold and wind like a pro! I actually stopped into Jessica's house the night before the shoot to look at photos, and let me tell you - this girl knows how to dress! Check out these outfits below - great looks, perfect accessories, and a few different looks without overdoing it. Love, love, love this girl and so happy to have had the opportunity to take her senior portraits!

Ok, on to the photos!

Seriously. How pretty is she?

Jessica is a dancer, so we snuck into a local dance studio for a few shots...

and then found this AWESOME building right down the road. I love shooting in historic towns!

Jessica is also in the band - she plays the clarinet and is the drum major for Bellefonte High School's marching band. So of course, we took a few photos in her uniform!

I also snapped a few shots of Jessica with her younger sister, Kristen, who was super helpful at keeping the ducks away in the park! Love these girls!

The R Family

noreply@blogger.com (Sarah) — Tue, 11 Dec 2012 01:49:00 +0000

Over Thanksgiving, not only did I get to enjoy time with family, but I shot photos for family as well. I'm always happy to take photos of people that I know and love, and the "other" Connecticut Reeds are no exception. We headed to Talleyrand Park, in Bellefonte, which is a lovely area for photos - so many options! And, as you can see, E practiced her spins, H chased some ducks and Mom and Dad might have had a bit of fun, too. :)

Love Daddy and Daughter/Son shots!

E twirling in the gazebo

Fun on the train!

Smiles!

Handsome Mr. H.

Lovely ladies!

Love. :)

Yay, ducks! :)

Fall Fun

noreply@blogger.com (Sarah) — Sun, 04 Nov 2012 00:50:00 +0000

Fall is fun! Adi and I have had fun playing in the leaves, exploring pumpkins, and dressing up as a (GIRL) dinosaur. Thanks to cousin Emma, Adi even had her own jack-o-lantern!

Wheeeeeeeee!!!!

This smile is one of the best things in my world, along with the laughter that usually goes along with it. <3

The B Family

noreply@blogger.com (Sarah) — Thu, 01 Nov 2012 23:48:00 +0000

I had such a good time a few weekends ago with these friends of ours! Mr. H was a little shy, but was very excited about the backhoe and other tractors near our photo shoot. We had fun checking out the ducks on Mirror Lake and the little creek nearby, too! It was the first time I've shot at the University of Connecticut's main campus - UConn has some very pretty locations!

Little boys are all motion! (Or, as my Gigi would say "All speed and no control!")

Fourth of July

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 04 Jul 2012 19:23:00 +0000

No, I haven't fallen off of the face of the earth, promise. Life has been a bit chaotic, so unfortunately I haven't been taking as many photos lately as I'd like... Hopefully that will change soon! I did get the camera out for the fireworks last night, hope you enjoy!

A few montages:

The K Family ~ Ashford Family Photographer

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 28 Nov 2011 21:58:00 +0000

On Sunday afternoon, I had the chance to get together with the K family for some family photos. The weather cooperated (it was foggy and chilly that morning!) and it was a beautiful sunny and fairly warm afternoon for some family photos! Shannon was our doula for Adi's birth (if you're in need of a good doula, check out her website or let me know and I'll get you in touch with her -- she's AWESOME) and she and her family have become good friends of ours. One thing I love about Connecticut is that there is no shortage of fun places to take a family photo. Both of these places are right down the road from my house! Here are a few of my favorites:

I know this one isn't a "typical" good photo, but I love how each of the kids is doing something a little different and showing a bit of their own personality... So true of a large family! :)

Adi, Week by Week

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 16 Oct 2011 21:18:00 +0000

So I'm completely stealing this idea from John and Sherry over at Young House Love (whose blog is awesome, so if you haven't been reading it, check it out. It's a mix of DIY, life, and craziness that's just wonderful). Anyways, the idea is this: weekly pictures of Adi, to show how much she's changing from week to week. Hopefully, it'll be fun and a great way to remember all those silly faces and general goofiness. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? Here's to hoping I can keep up with it for a whole year...

I actually debated skipping our week one photo. Let's just say between a very tired mommy photographer and an Adi baby that was not at all thrilled about ever being on her back that this didn't go nearly as planned. But in the spirit of remembering what that first week was like, I'm including it. Afterall, she was only a week old and I've never been a mommy before... So here's week one:

Week two went a little better (ah, yes, you can just hear me saying "SO big" in my best mommy voice, can't you?)

And here's week three! Hopefully I'll get a little better about getting these up more quickly, and it won't be sporadic posts of "Oh hey, here's what she has looked like the past few weeks." :)

How Pinteresting...

noreply@blogger.com (Sarah) — Sat, 24 Sep 2011 20:39:00 +0000

Because I'm stuck on bedrest, some things I'm loving on Pinterest lately:

Because I'm a dork. (From here)

Fall prettiness. (From here)

Yummy pumpkin pie bites. (From here)

To remind me to capture the details. (From here)

Yup. It's pretty random. And that's okay. :)

PS -- Pinteresting is totally Jared's word. And I totally stole it... :)
