I absolutely love this song. Always makes me smile and sing a long. Etta James passed away on January 20th 2012 and her musical legacy will go on and on. For me listening to her music over the years what always grabbed me was that she really sung from the heart.

Her music lives on. RIP Etta!

You might have noticed a few reviews for Walkers Crisps on my site over my blog history and I'm here again telling you about some new crisps that will be hitting the shelves. Only these have a bit of mystery to them... so do we have any budding taste detectives? (Ha! see what I did there!)

Music Monday: The Killers - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine

Sorting through more January clean-ups and I got to my iPod, I needed to put on the music I'd been given for Christmas - there was a time I would do this on Christmas Day! Also to have a sort through my playlists, basically have a good old sort out. Hitting the good old shuffle button on my iTunes and I came across this Killers track, like an old friend of mine ;-)

This song is the opening track on their first album Hot Fuss, this album was probably my most played of the last decade, In 2004 I was working in a record store and literally could not move for their CD's around the place. Also the album was played almost constantly but I still remember the first time I heard it. As soon as it had arrived in the stock room it was played, I created jobs for myself that meant I didn't miss out. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine totally grabbed me from the very start, few albums do that to me but this one did. I needed to hear the next and the next and so on. Already Somebody Told Me and Mr Brightside were favourites but now I was joining in with the hysteria around the band.

It's still a great track and a great opening song for an album. I still love it :-)

Address book organisation fail or win?

I was given the above gorgeous address and birthday book, something I've wanted for ages but thought it was a bit boring to buy myself. But LOOK at it. There are cakes on it. But I cannot eat the book... well I guess I could. But that's just weird right?

So for 2012 and my super organised self this book is going to be an immense help but you've already noticed my title of this blog and thought how can this be a fail? Well this is me we're talking about so oops! Whenever I start a new book I want to make sure my writing is neat. Will I write in capitals... blue or black pen... Yes it's just a book. But these are all important questions that run through my mind.

So I got to deciding that I would write in blue and in capitals throughout. Then I added my first address under the initial tab of her first name not surname! Oops. But... it works. I've been using it for two weeks and January is quite a busy month and so far it's not let me down. In fact I think it has me more organised! Why didn't I think of sorting my addresses out like this before.

Super organised! WIN!

Music Monday: Elton John - My Father's Gun

I wouldn't say I was the biggest Elton John fan, but you can't help but know at least one of his songs can you? I do have a few of his albums and I admit that the Tumbleweed Connection was a recent purchase. Tumbleweed Connection was his third album and no singles were released from this album. It was only when I saw the film Elizabethtown did I come across this song a few years ago.

If you haven't seen the film, you should. It has Orlando Bloom in it ;-)

January clean up!

It's January the time to start having a clear out or hibernate until the better weather comes along... well this is about decluttering. I don't know about you but my wardrobe can get a bit disorganised at times. So January is just the right time to get it back into action again, especially after you've hit the January sales and bought more clothes.

I had seen an idea that to sort your wardrobe you should turn all your coathangers around in the opposite way you normally have them and then in 6 months anything that is still facing the wrong way - get rid of! Well I didn't like the idea of my wardrobe looking backward so I created a divider simply using a bright red coathanger. Anything that is still on the right hand side in my wardrobe after 6 months will be taken to the charity shop. Everything I have worn is on the left hand side. So far the plan is working but then it's been less than a week so far.

Before this long term plan it's good to go through each item and ask yourself these questions;

- Am I going to wear this again?

- Does it fit?

- Has it lost its colour or is it a bit too worn?

- Has it lost any buttons or the trousers too scuffed at the bottoms (I have short legs!)

Charity shops will welcome anything that you don't want. Then you can go and have another shop! (only if you've thrown stuff away, that is the rules!)

You have to be really decisive so you can fill your wardrobe with lots of things that YOU will wear. January is also a good time to sort through shoes and jewellery.

Don't forget if everyone declutters now... the charity shops will be full of things you'd like ;-)

Yep MI4 sneaks into my list. Great all round action movie with jaw dropping stunts (some done by Tom Cruise himself) and there are some pure comedic gems courtesy of Simon Pegg. Also actress Paula Patton's character took off her heels when she went chasing one of the targets! You have no idea how much it annoys me when I see a female character running really fast in high heels... I mean seriously!?! I almost whooped in the cinema. Yes, yes. Whatever. Fantastic film!

My Favourite TV Programmes of 2011

The last of my 2011 round ups and this one is about the TV programmes I've liked. Again I'm back to indecisive ways so I have a Top 5 and then special mentions to others. That's the way I roll :-)

5. Up All Night

Discovered this thanks to some twitter pals from across the pond. It's really new and I've watched as much as is available online in the past few weeks and I'm hooked. It's a fun comedy featuring a young couple who have a child and all the dynamics that entails. The episodes are way too short which only leads me to want more!

4. Boardwalk Empire

Another series I've been hooked on. Loved the first series and the second series is better in my opinion.

3. This Is England '88

Shown a week and a bit before Christmas this was not cheer me up TV. This was harsh, brutal, emotional, gut wrenching TV. Beautifully written and acted. Big round of applause all round.

2. Black Mirror

Again this was on recently, Charlie Brooker's somewhat controversial look into the modern world. I was hooked on the 3 parts of this mini series, we could all learn a thing or two about ourselves and our day to day "modern" self.

1. UNITED

Sorry Manchester United again... does it ease the pain that David Tennant was in it? BBC undertook the story of The Busby Babes. This scene below when Jimmy Murphy (Tennant) looks at the team and imagines seeing those who sadly died in The Munich Air Disaster are lined up behind him gets me EVERY single time.

Other 2011 highlights;

Downton Abbey - Although the adverts were a big massive pain in the wotsit! :-(

Old favourites such as House, The Mentalist, The Walking Dead and Misfits did not disappoint.

I also got caught into the TOWIE web and also Made In Chelsea. I need saving! HELP ME!!!!

Then my TV highlight of the year. Willie Carson and the crickets on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here

I'm told no crickets were harmed in the above clip.

So what does 2012 hold?

Sherlock - The best Sherlock Holmes series is back on New Years Day :-)

Endeavour - The prequel to Inspector Morse is a one off but has already been pretty much scheduled that a series will follow.

Titanic - ITV take on that big ship that still hits an iceberg :-(

The Voice - Can the BBC really make a successful singing competition that really does sink The X Factor?

The Killing - BBC4 will have the third season of this hit programme.

There will be more Big Bang Theory (bazinga!), The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, Greys Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl.

My Favourite Album of 2011

I'm an indecisive soul at the best and worst of times and as you all know now I like a varied style of music. As you will have seen with my extensive list of favourite songs I find it hard to pick a favourite. But it was not hard to pick my favourite album of 2011. Infact it was probably one of the easiest decisions I've made in a long time ;-)

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Who would have thought an album about war and matters of the world could have been a huge risk for PJ Harvey and in many aspects it was. She took her time, waited, and then finally took the time to invest her time to a project that has paid off. She never raged through the emotions on the album but she managed to leave us, her audience raging at the state of our country and world. I listened to some of the album through when London was at the mercy of the rioters and it was like she knew something was going to happen if though it was released beforehand. Absolutely enthralling and beautiful.

See sometimes I can just pick one. But only sometimes!

My Favourite Sporting Moments of 2011

For my next look back at 2011 we head into sport so the top picture is pretty obvious right? Haha. ;-) But there were other noteworthy sporting moments of the year too.

So yes firstly in May Manchester United won their 19th title and knocked Liverpool off their perch ;-) It feels like ages ago now though so roll on May when hopefully Number 20 will be ours.

It's also hard to believe this was 2011 as England won The Ashes in emphatic style back in early January. Sadly The World Cup performance was not at all like this performance at all. :-(

Darren Clarke wins The Open. Finally!

I hate it when I can't find a video that I want! FFS! Anyway F1 and THAT overtake. Yes when Webber swept past Alonso I could hear every viewer take a deep intake of breath wondering "what are you doing?" and then the resulting "Oh wow!". Great driving. Great to watch! Even if my blood pressure probably won't agree ;-)

Djokovic winning the singles final of Wimbledon, his 48th victory in 49 matches. Was great to watch two of the greatest tennis players of our time play against each other.

So New Zealand finally won the Rugby World Cup as the above video foretold. I enjoyed watching Wales, didn't really enjoy watching England though... they seemed to be in the news for NOT playing rugby :-(

Don't your legs hurt just watching Mark Cavendish sprint at the end. Ouch! And woweeeee!

Football again, sorry! 2011 also saw the 25th anniversary of Sir Alex Ferguson's time at Manchester United. So amazing and he had a stand named after him too, super!

Obviously next year is the year of The Olympics and I really hope next year I can fill this Sport update with gold medals and all that jazz. Another sporting year awaits.

My Favourite Films of 2011

Yesterday saw my favourite songs of 2011 and now we move onto movies. It's been quite a mixed year I thought film wise and I think a lot of people are waiting for 2012, and I am one of them. But first 2011.

For this I have put my favourite films into a Top 5... well just about and this did take me some time and I might have eaten a near tub of Quality Street for thinking power!

5. Crazy Stupid Love

My comedy feelgood movie of the year... plus Ryan Gosling is HOT!

4. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2

The Harry Potter films were over this year. I cried. But with the complete boxset now I'm going to arrange a Harry Potter day!

3. The King's Speech

The first film I saw of 2011 was The King's Speech and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Learnt a lot more about the history of the Royal family after seeing this.

2. Senna

So glad that this eventually made its way to cinemas and it was my Top DVD on my list for Christmas! Already watched it twice ;-) Fantastic insight into one of my favourite Grand Prix drivers, Ayrton Senna.

1. Drive

Another car film. Another Ryan Gosling film. This is totally amazing. Loved everything about it.

Others worthy of a mention (in no particular order);

Ides of March - another Ryan Gosling film. Political drama with George Clooney who starred and directed in this.

In Time - Science Fiction thriller with Justin Timberlake and Cillian Murphy.

Bridesmaids - Comedy film that is pretty much the female version of The Hangover. Plenty of laughs!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Really enjoyed this, fantastic cast.

Twilight Breaking Dawn Pt 1 - Although the books went a bit silly with the story I was impressed with how this was put onto the big screen. Looking forward to Pt 2.

Gnomeo & Juliet - Cartoon comedy fun! Perfect!

HOP - I want candy! ;-)

The Adjustment Bureau - This clever fantasy romance film really caught my eye starring Matt Damon.

Rango - A computer animated film that was much better than I expected. Oh and Johnny Depp is one of the voices

Paul - Science fiction comedy from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Hilarious viewing!

X-Men: First Class - Just when people thought the X-Men film series might have ended, then this came out. Apparently this will be the start of another trilogy series.

Mr Popper's Penguins - Loved this penguin caper film with Jim Carrey

The Inbetweeners Movie - A great move from TV to film for The Inbetweeners.

Real Steel - Loved this robot boxing film with Hugh Jackman, a real surprise.

So 2012...

I am a big fan of the hard rapping style mixed with beautiful controlled lyrics. Eminem and Rihanna are other that fitted the bill with their duet and this one was exactly the same.

I've developed into quite a fan of Example.

Will Young - Jealousy

If I 'had' to pick my favourite song from 2011 then without question it would be this song. I love Will Young and I love the way this song builds up and back down. Beautiful song. Plus it's a catchy bugger of a song ;-)

A welcome return for the Foos this year. Saw them in the Summer. AMAZEBALLS!

Erm... yeah... how did this get here? How? Well it's bloody catchy and I can't help but like that cheeky fivesome. Some say they are as big as The Beatles when they started. I think by the sounds of the screams... they could be bigger :-O

Beady Eye - Two Of A Kind

The Gallagher brothers back in the charts but under two different names. Liam under Beady Eye caught my ears with his catchy album and this B side is one of my favourites.

Lady Gaga - Edge Of Glory

It was close to call between this song and Born This Way as I loved both. But I have to say Edge of Glory just shades it for its perfect sing a long whilst driving for me. I can really shout the lyrics ;-)

Love the album. Love this song!

Reviewed: Escada Especially for Women

One of the perks of being a blogger is the occasional freebie that you get sent. Amongst the Christmas cards this week I received a tiny little sample of Especially Escada fragrance. As you know I don't like pink or gold so the bottle is a bit lost on me. Does anyone else buy perfume because of the pretty bottle?

As for the scent it's probably stronger than I would normally choose to sample in store but found that with time the scent calmed down and was really individual. It was still quite strong and I'd probably not wear this during the day but for meals out this would be ideal when you want something a bit more noticeable. It has been described as being floral, rosy, fruity and musky. For me it is definitely musky and floral. But not a floral scent that's too girly. You'll know from reading this blog that I don't like things to be too girly.

The advertising campaign has Bar Rafaeli.... girl crush!

So if you need a last minute Christmas gift, this could be it :-)

mypure review: Comvita Anti-Ageing Firming Eye Gel

I turned 30 this year and I was told all the gems of "it's downhill from now on" and "next step is 40" (I thought it was 31!) and I guess it was about time I started looking into these anti-ageing creams and the like. I also realise I now should not be going to bed without a proper skincare routine... urgh and oops! So this Comvita Anti- Ageing Firming Eye Gel was a good place to start.

Now I've never had any real problems with my eyes, no infections etc although I do now have to wear glasses to read as I have found words get all out of focus now. Another sign of my old age ;-)

The skin around the eyes is very delicate and I know I want to try to avoid as many wrinkles as possible so a firming gel seemed ideal. This is a great product, it's not too greasy and it's easy to apply with a pump action nozzle. I've been using this now for a few months (I'm behind with my reviews, I will be better in 2012) and whilst I've not seen a stunning improvement. My skin does feel tighter, not too tight but definitely an improvement than before.

I'll definitely keep using it, but I would say after a month's usage that the nozzle needs regular cleaning as it gets jammed pretty quickly. Also less is definitely more as you don't need much.

This song always makes me feel happy. Bouncy happy. It was recently played in TV series Bored to Death in the UK (US are ahead of us by a series). I feel like I need this bouncy song today as Mondays seem to be coming around so fast... slow down I like my weekends!

So yes bouncy silly music. I like it :-)

Me the Grouchy eBay Seller

After a massive clearout of clothes, shoes and the like I decided to list a few bits onto eBay. I'd stopped really selling stuff on a constant basis a while ago and had been more of a buyer than seller recently. A few changes to the selling forms had changed but nothing major. But eBay has changed, the site and the community that use it.

There seems to be very little protection for sellers. You're unable to leave negative feedback to a seller who deserves the negative feedback is the main part. I received a negative comment on my account after someone contacted me at 11am and as I hadn't replied by 5pm I received a red negative. You can ask them to remove it or reply to it but mostly I found myself thinking "why am I bothering?" I should add they contacted me to ask why their item hadn't arrived yet but they hadn't paid!!!! See no protection grrr!

As soon as my listings were ending I was getting messages from my buyers begging me to give them positive feedback. When I used to sell more I had it set up automatically but I found that a bit rude. Now I was getting messages after messages saying "Hey, still waiting for feedback". Feedback is important but as a buyer shouldn't you give feedback once you've got the items so you can judge the whole experience? Or am I wrong with that too? I still obviously gave feedback to them.

Then eBay keep contacting me to ask for feedback, I wondered if I was the only one finding eBay annoying as a seller. But I love, love, love buying stuff from the site.

Am I being a grouchy seller? Or just a grouch in general?

I need coffee and cake. Nom. That'll see me right. Oh and my new addiction is those chocolate coffee beans... double nom! :-)

I know Florence + The Machine are much like people's views on marmite. Some love, others don't. I have always been in the "love" category. I keep catching up with the latest music and then I swing again far behind. I've now got the new album and I love it.

I didn't think the first album could be topped! I was wrong, fabulous!

Where do all the gloves go?

Maybe it's just me but I always seem to lose gloves. I don't just mean the odd glove when I'm out and about but between the seasons I lose gloves. I put them away when spring comes and then I always seem to find them around the summer and cheerfully remember "I don't need you yet" and then like right now when I need gloves. WHERE HAVE THEY GONE?

It's probably a little disorganised of me not to have a winter drawer with scarves, gloves, hats etc but I do find they tend to turn up. Normally after I have bought a few new pairs... soon I won't be able to lose any as they will literally be everywhere!

Does anyone else have this problem?

Whilst we're on the topic of losing things... has anyone ever finished a lip gloss. You know until it's totally empty. I always seem to lose mine long before I've even got a 1/4 of the way through...

There is a pattern forming here...

I'm honestly not that disorganised. Just a bit twonky. But you know this. Right?

Music Monday: Fleetwood Mac - Little Lies

On a Sunday I think I should rename them "Fleetwood Mac days". Tis true, I start pretty much every Sunday with Fleetwood Mac. I sit on the sofa with a cuppa, magazines and search for Fleetwood Mac on the iPod and hit shuffle. It's like a ritual.

Little Lies is one of my favourite tracks. In truth I have so many that I like, but this is up there.

What about you? Are you a Fleetwood Mac fan?
