I am also making a hat to go along with this scarf that will match. The hat will done holding the two strands together again for two inches to make the brim of the hat. I will then drop the fun fur strand and continue the rest of the hat with the turquoise colored yarn. This hat pattern should compliment the scarf very nicely. I will add a picture of the scarf here shortly so you can see how it works up.

Well I have thought about it from time to time. I also like to knit but my first passion is crocheting. I think the biggest reason for this is I learned to crochet first. Your reasons for crocheting could of course be different then mine so I thought I would give 5 reasons why people probably like to crochet.

1. Crocheting is relaxing. Most crocheters find out very quickly that crocheting can be very relaxing. A very hectic day can easily be calmed by sitting down in your favorite easy chair and manipulating the yarn with your fingers while you quietly count the stitches to yourself. After a while you will feel your breathing slow and you will soon realize that you are a lot calmer then when you first sat down.
2. Crocheting keep you company. I often take a small crocheting project along with me if I have a lengthy ride in the car to give me something to occupy my hands with. I also love to crochet while I watch TV, watch a sporting event, or even while I visit and catch up with a friend.  I find that I can make very good use of my time if I can get a few rounds or rows done on a project while I am doing something else.
3. Crocheting is good finger exercise. For a few months I didn’t have the time to crochet and was focused on some other crafts. I started to notice that my fingers started to become stiff and painful. I examined my activities and came to the conclusion that it was because I was not crocheting as much. The crocheting was actually giving my fingers the right amount of exercise that it kept them very limber. Well the simple answer to this dilemma is to not stop crocheting and pick up a project to work on at least a couple times a week.
4. Crocheting creates useful handmade items. Crocheting is a great way to create unusual handmade items. When I first started crocheting I made a lot of dish cloths.  My friends and family were very excited to receive one of these for Christmas or their birthday.  Why? Because they could get a dish cloth that looked nice in their kitchen or bathroom and they knew I put a lot of love and attention into it just for them.
5. Crocheting is a Cheap Hobby. Crocheting is very inexpensive hobby. A person can purchase a skein of yarn for about $2-3 and a crochet hook for about the same and enjoy making several projects from it whether it is a scarf, granny square, or a dishcloth or potholder if you purchased the cotton yarn.

I found a nice beginner scarf pattern at Colorful Homespun Scarf to Knit – Free Knitting Pattern made with Lion Brand Homespun yarn. This yarn is very soft and makes up into a very nice scarf. This pattern uses the garter stitch. If you aren’t familiar with the garter stitch watch here on a video.

Please view the video below if you need to refresh yourself on how to cast on to start a knitting project.

If you would like to try a smaller project you could try a dishcloth for your kitchen that would match your decor try this pattern.

This make a 6×6 inches Diagonal Washcloth using Worsted Weight 100% Cotton and needles #7US. This is a simple project to make for a beginner when you are first learning to knit.

Cast on 1 stitch and K3 in that stitch, knitting front and back of the stitch.

1st row and every odd row, K even across.
Next row and every even row, make on increase in the 1st and last stitch of the row, knitting front and back of the stitch, until 39 stitches on the needle (or more if you want a bigger cloth)

Then, K2tog at the beginning and at the end of every even row until 1 stitch remain on the needle.

Cast off
