This lovely sweet story was sent to me by friend of the corner Tom.

Several years ago now I made a small batch of strong beer, sort of an attempted belgian ale thing, as sort of a tribute to sarcasmoscorner. I owed her a bottle of Chimay, y'see, and I never got to pay up.

The results were disappointing it didn't ferment much at first, basically a mild ale with a lot of extra sugar so I never mentioned it to anyone. Left one bottle in the basement, didn't even bother to put a suitable label on it. Forgot about it entirely.

Now I'm discarding box upon box of stuff in preparation to move, and amidst four dozen empty grolsch bottles (I will never again ask movers to move my empty beer bottles for me, geez what a jackass move) I come across this thing. Still labeled "BAST.BOB ROSEMARY BREW."

Y'see, a decade ago (!) I made a batch of beer with rosemary rather than hops, out of historical curiosity: they used rosemary before they used hops. Guess what, it was weird and different and people largely didn't care for it.

I thought it was that stuff so I wasn't too excited, but I was curious what ten years might have done, so I poured a glass anyway.

It was the beer I'd made for Star. Apparently it decided to take its own sweet time fermenting in the bottle.

It is Star's barleywine. It is heavenly. And there is just one bottle in the world, half of which is already in my belly. Sorry about that guys. It's tough to type and wring at the same time.
Relief has come in the person of Friend of the Corner, Wandering Star, ( how appropriate is that alias in this situation ?) who has gallantly stepped forward to facilitate moving Sarcasmo's Corner. By facilitate, I mean he is doing it all. He is optimistic, and so am I.
As with any move, things don't always go back into place right away. Since we don't know what the initial result will look like, WS suggested a please excuse our dust post until he neatens it up. So this is it.
To all of you who, like myself, lack technical expertise but sent wishes of good luck, and moral support, I want you to know that it means a lot. And a big thank you to this Friend of the Corner who also offered his assistance.
What a tribute to Sarcasmo that her friends are there for her.
See you when the dust settles. We all know that Sarcasmo was the technical support of both this blog and mine. She set them up, and whenever there were any little hitches, I wrung my hands and cursed my wretched fate while she made all the necessary adjustments. She promised that one of these days she would teach me what she knew. I honestly don't know how she came by all this internet savvy. Except that it often strikes me as a foreign language, and she was good with that. Ask her sisters about the time she got them directions in Europe using her high school french.
Now, Blogger has notified me, and the rest of the 5% of their customers who use FTP publishing that they can no longer dedicate their resources to that. So, if I want to continue posting to Sarcasmo's Corner, as well as my own blog, Wednesdays Off, I have to move them.

 Shudder.

If it were just Wednesdays Off, I wouldn't care too much. If I screw it up, I can just start over. But that is not an option for the Corner.
I have been doing some research on the site that hosts the blogs, and on blogger. It has answered some questions, but created others. I think there are a couple of things that could happen.

1. I don't do anything. The blog will never be updated, but all of her words will still be there. Not the way I would want it to be, but better than having the whole thing go poof.

2. I find another platform that does support FTP publishing. I am guessing that would require it's own expertise that I don't possess the skills for either. And, who's to say I won't find myself right back in this position in the near future ?

3. I try to move Wednesdays Off first, and if that goes horribly wrong I revert to option number 1. Sounds like a plan except that Wednesdays Off is a sub domain of Sarcasmo's Corner.
I am not sure if they can be separated.

4. I use the migration tool that Blogger is supposed to release tomorrow to relocate Sarcasmo's Corner, and let the chips fall where they may.

What do you think? I would like to back up both blogs before I do anything, but having watched the tutorial video several times, I know that I still don't know what I'm doing. I called the host site support the last time I had a technical problem. I explained the level of my technical prowess. The tech was very nice, and I think he did his best to simplify his answers. It was still beyond me. If you watch The Big Bang Theory, I felt like Penny listening to Sheldon.
I am open to any and all suggestions, and welcome any assistance you can offer. Is there someone, or a service, that I can hire to do this for me ?( while I wring my hands and curse my wretched fate?). If you can help, or you know someone I can contact, please email me at slf1954@verizon.net .

In case this is my last post here, I wanted to let you know that Slouching Towards Bedlam is, well, Slouching on. For that reason alone she would have been delighted by the baby shower. Monkeys were represented. On outfits with feet, crib sheets and blankets and all kinds of baby accoutrement. She would also have been delighted that the party was for Friend of the Corner Poppy, who was looking all lovely and radiant. There was much of the traditional ooohing & aaahing, and we had cake and got to play with crayons and watercolors before we went home.
According to a few online references, the baby shower was originated in the 18th century by a German silversmith named Franz Schauer , to encourage gift giving by the well do do in New York. Kind of like the way Hallmark has made up holidays to sell greeting cards.
So what essentially began as a marketing ploy was morphed into yesterdays lovely gathering of friends, old and new. And monkeys.
Today is Valentines Day, or as we suggested in a previous post, Compulsory Love day. Sarcasmo was a fan of love, but not so much the day. According to those online references, handwritten valentines gave way to the mass produced variety in the 1800's.
So, baby showers, traditionally a gathering of women were started by a man in order to create a need for his product, and, personally expressed declarations of love were overshadowed by mass produced greetings, both in the Victorian era. That is not what I thought was implied by the term Age of Enlightenment.
Consider yourself enlightened.
Happy Valentines Day.
Much love to Poppy & Feanor and our soon to be here newest Friend of the Corner. Who else woke up this morning and realized that tomorrow was Christmas Eve? Anyone ? It is not a day to be heralded, but all the same, it cannot go by unacknowledged. And in many ways, it is just a day.
It is a day to remember. A day to kiss the frog .
It is a day to reflect on what was, and a day to wonder what might have been.
It is a day, like every day I think, to hold her in your heart.
It is a good day, as really is any day, to go to Starbucks and hoist a brew in her honor.

I heard a quote attributed to Ghandi this morning, that I thought was appropriate.

"There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are you will always be in my heart"

And then I thought, seriously, can I bring everybody down just a little bit more, thereby ensuring that they never, ever want to visit the Corner again?

So I perused Sarcasmo's posts1 for a quote she favored. I found this Original Sarcasmo. I dare you to read it and not smile as she takes us on a tour of what was going on in her head at that very moment. Oh, and the quote? It's not in there. You have to get all the way to the last footnote2 and follow the hyperlink to the quote, which was her very first blog post on Sarcasmo's Corner, June 21, 2002.

1.It's a lot like going through old photos. You remember this one and that one, and you keep on going long after you find the one you are looking for.

2. Her footnotes are the best, aren't they?

Of Tributes and Turkeys

Don't you love it when you check your email, and there, nestled among the newsletters you regret having signed up for, notices of available billing statements and requests for assistance in transferring large sums of money, you find a missive that warms your heart? I do. One came yesterday from Brian Rapp, who tells me that he was inspired by Sarcasmo's Interactive Fiction. He said that his own work, Orevore Courier was written as a tribute to her.

I am constantly amazed by how many people she touched. Although they never met, Brian tapped right into the Sarcasmo vibe, His game has pirates, and zombies, and zombie pirates!

Just today I heard about this exhibit at the MoMA. I think Sarcasmo would have made plans for a trip to NYC.

I was searching for a Thanksgiving themed Original Sarcasmo , but mostly she just mentioned that she was full. This one is from the Monday after the holiday. Enjoy both. I go through the Sarcasmo's Corner archives looking for Original Sarcasmos about her favorite day of the year. There are scads of them right? Tales of her pirating and zombie-ing. Musings about costumes and make-up and goulies and ghosties. One might think. But one ,would be incorrect. Sarcasmo did dedicate some blog space to her most favorite of all holidays, but not near as much as anyone who knew would think. Most of her posts this time of year were about her being too busy with all of her Halloween activities to blog about them.

Most of us, unlike Sarcasmo, don't need to take a week's vacation in order to get to all of our Halloween related activities. But if you have some time to spare, here are a few links to keep you in the spirit.

What Would Ed Sullivan Say?: - With songs like "I Wanna Eat Your Hand" & "A Hard Days Night of the Living Dead", the Zombeatles are indeed the Fab Gore. {Thanks to Friend of the Corner Tommy B. Goode for this link )

YO-HO-HO - Pirate Sarcasmo was known to have haunted the Tall Ship Gazela in her day. Here's another pirate ship. This one has werewolves & beer.

Coming to a Theater Near You - a different kind of pirate , to be sure. But this movie looks like fun. It won't be released in the U.S, until after Halloween, but by then we will all need to relax a bit.

Halloween Treats - Star Wars Zombie Art. As they gain language skills, they lose their understanding of the meaning of life, until they are conversant, but the knowledge is gone. She put forth this premise one day while we watched young Thor, as an infant, endeavor to get his hands on a flower we were keeping just out of his reach, and presumably out of his mouth. What if, she mused, Thor's little squeals of determination were really baby talk for " if I could just get my hands on that flower, I could cure cancer". What if?

Watching Sparkle's expressive little face as she sleeps, which is pretty much her MO these days, it would appear that she is dreaming. As her personal experience of life is minimal , you have to wonder if Sarcasmo was on to something.

Sparkle has super powers. Just the other day she made her 4 year old brother Thor sit still in one place for a full thirty minutes while she slept in his arms. If I had not seen it with my own two eyes, I would not believe it.

Sparkle (called Zoe by her parents) has a middle name. Seren. It is Welsh, for Sarcasmo.

The Corner can not let this post end without mentioning that it is only 23 days til HALLOWEEN!!! Sarcasmo's most favorite of days. Right about now she would be in full fright mode, haunting ships and debating which costume for the big event. And by that I mean TrackerNeil's annual extravaganza. This year, young Thor has shown a keen interest in Zombies. I hear he was chasing the neighbor's children with a classic Zombie walk while chanting "brains, I want to eat your brains" Sarcasmo would be so proud.

Sarcasmo's Corner invites you all to participate on this blog. To me, the yearly festival is very much a Sarcasmo related event, as it was through her that I was even aware it existed. We had tentative plans of attending something, sometime, but never quite found the right venue at the right time for both of us.
Somewhere I stumbled across a list of festival offerings deemed family friendly. A play titled Fractured Fairy Tales is being performed at the Walking Fish Theater, a place I have been wanting to check out for a while. Perfect! Accompanied by young Thor, his Mom Sarcas-sis, and by default the yet to be born Sparkle, we made our way to the play. Only to be told it was sold out! My fault for not getting tickets online ahead of time. But who knew a $5 ticket to an original play in a theater that was converted from a row home in an area of the city not known for attracting visitors would be such a draw? Who knew? Although disappointed, we salvaged the day with non-Fringe related activities.
Since I have no review for you, I have some links to help you laze away the unofficial last day of summer.

Zombies - Friend of the corner Jenn, send us this link, and says " found this for Sarcasmo and thought she would have been all over this. Not that I haven't thought of you in all that time. In truth I thought of you often.
I would like to tell you about all the fun filled days ,the exciting new trails I blazed, and the time I spent reflecting on world peace while you patiently waited for me. (thanks for that) It would be nice even to tell you that I cleaned out a closet or two in all that time. Alas, none of that would be true. It is just the day-to-day that has kept me from my keyboard. That, and I have had nothing to say.
I waited patiently for my muse. Cajoled, begged and pleaded even. Absent any help from that quarter, I surfed around looking for links to post, but I don't have the knack for finding them like Sarcasmo did. I checked my inbox now and then, just in case, but apparently you guys have been reflecting on world peace and/or cleaning closets as well.
Then it dawned on me. While I may be at a loss for blog fodder, we all know someone who rarely had blogger's block.
Return with me now to hose thrilling days of yesteryear. To August 2005. A time picked totally at random, but not without context.

From August 1 2005- She's the Queen of Cool.

From August 9 2005- Proof that we're related. I have the same affliction when typing the word "the", and my name. And the sidebar alone is worth the click.

From August 17 2005- It could have been the end of the world as we knew it. But it wasn't.

From August 23 2005- Post Apocalyptic Summer Camp.

So there you have it. Links and Original Sarcasmo's all rolled into one.You may choose to think I took the easy way out. I prefer to think that I found my muse.

One more thing. Ptvissiongrrl 's got it covered. Take a look.

Sarcasmo's Corner is hoping you will participate in this blog by sending links Sarcasmo would have posted, stories, commentary, or whatever you feel appropriate to slf1954@verizon.net.

Ingenue

Friend of the Corner Meera sent us the following email:

"I just was watching an old movie last night, The Lady Eve. The entire time I
kept thinking, who does Barbara Stanwyck look like I just cant place it and
then I realized. Star looked exactly like her."

My initial reation was. "Really? Barbara Stanwyck?" Understand that my relevant Barbara Stanwyck period of reference was her days as the matriarchal mother on "Big Valley". So I couldn't imagine it.

But Meera cited this photo. And right here, in this picture, with her head tilted just that way, I can sort of see the resemblance. Not so much a look-a-like . More a similar appearance, or spirit. So far it is only Meera and myself on the same page. Sarcas-dad and Sarcas-sis say they just don't see it. And. Sarcasmo Jr. has not offered an opinion.

What would Sarcasmo say ? (WWSS?) About the photo, I don't know. We rarely see ourselves as others do anyway. I do think she would be delighted by the association. She was a film aficionado and had a special appreciation of the black and white genre. The film employs both slapstick and satire *, Definitely right up Sarcasmo's alley. #

I have not seen the movie, "The Lady Eve", have you.? And this one.

Do you see what Meera sees? Technically, he already is a big brother in the sense that the baby exists. It just hasn't been born yet. I waited to tell you because I wanted to know if it was a boy or a girl, so we could give the little tyke a blog appropriate name. You do know that Thor's actual name is not Thor, right? Anyway, first tme out there was absolutely no cooperation on the part of the child in-utero. That led to rampant speculation that it was indeed female. Today we found out the answer.

I bet you would like to know, wouldn't you? Not yet.

First I wanted to tell you, that Thor has names picked out. Lance if it's a boy or a girl. Or Pinocchio.

And I was worried about a good blog name.

Now that we know the sex, I spent some time online ( 5 minutes) searching for a Thor related gender specific, sibling suggestive pseudonym for the one who has not yet been named. No luck. Norse mythology seems to favor one sex over the other. All the good ones are given to the guys.

Yep. It's a girl. A little sister for Thor. We shall call her Sparkles, as she was christened by the "ladies who weekend". I briefly considered Sparky, but that only seems appropriate if she ends up being a ham radio operator. Which, if she wants to be, is okay by us.
>
Sarcasmo would be in her glory with a nephew and a niece to <s>corrupt</s> cuddle . I can only imagine the wisdoms she would impart to a little girl. Since I can only imagine, I need you guys to step up. All you honorary aunts and uncles. What Would Sacrcasmo Say.( Sorry, I just couldn't resist the urge to write that. ) What influence would she exert over the next generation?

As always. It is possible this was posted before, but even if, it's worth another mention. Sarcasmo so loved this game. Unfortunately the joy was not shared by the rest of the family. Eventually the actual game went missing. ( I am innocent, I swear). She eventually found it on EBay, and eventually found friends to play it with her.

King's Quest- Sarcasmo had great fun doing voices on this project. He and the team would like to have a portion of the credits dedicated to Star's memory and they'd like to display an image of her along with that of her character. If you have a favorite you would like us to revisit, let me know.
Enjoy .

Sarcasmo's Corner is hoping you will participate in this blog by sending links Sarcasmo would have posted, stories, commentary, or whatever you feel appropriate to slf1954@verizon.net.

Friday Follies

Wow, it's been a while since we've gathered, hasn't it? Life has been a bit hectic of late. I took a road trip to visit Sarcasmo Jr. And by visit I mean moving and unpacking. I kid, it was fun. If ,however, by chance, anyone took video of us maneuvering the box with the new dining table and chairs in it, from the car to the door of the complex, we think you have a shot at the $10,000 prize on AFHV. We want our cut.

There was also a sleepover with Thor , culminating in a fun trip to The Franklin. Even if it is all new and hip, it is still The Franklin Institute to me, thank you very much. I think Sarcasmo would agree with me on that. I thought of her as we toured the Narnia exhibit at The Franklin (Institute). She was the fan of the books. I can picture them, as they were shelved, on the bottom row of her bookcase. I never read them, but think I will now.

Oh, and I found Twitter. Enough said.

The last time I posted I was itching to tell you about Friend of the Corner Cheryl. She was on the Short List to be a finalist on Canada Writes. Unfortunately, the list of finalists was not up on their site until after I posted. Cheryl did not make the finals, but she was a semi finalist selected from among hundreds. Way to go Cheryl. I hope you plan to try again. The Corner was very excited that we may have a reality radio star in our midst. Read her butt-kicking entry here.

Friend of the Corner Chris will have two articles published in the May/June issue of Dirty Linen Magazine. He describes it as "The Rolling Stone of the folk music world". Very impressive. I shall be looking for a copy. Chris also interviewed the lovely and talented Deni Bonet, which was one of those "boy it's a small blog world" moments for me, as I have been following Deni's blog for years.

Friend of the Corner TrackkerNeil has made the papers. And , bonus, they spelled him name correctly. He will be making several appearances in the Philadelphia area. If you can make any of them I know he would love to see you, Me too, as I plan to be at one or two of them.

Here are some links I found in between tweets.

Found in in my Inbox- from Vis Major. (thanks Vis) She said " This Lady Cthulu purse/bag might not have been something Sarcasmo used, but I betcha at least some of her readers would want it. You know, for storing tortured souls. Or your keys. To each her own"

Surprised This Wasn't in my Inbox- from Sarcas-sis. The Sarcas-girls knew this movie word for word. It was their own sort of Rocky Horror Picture Show, only with cheerleaders.

1001 Uses For Duct Tape- could be the working title for this. although, most likely it isn't.

Speaking of Movies-Sarcasmo would have been first in line to see this one . I think she would have liked this poster too. (via)

Sarcasmo's Corner is hoping you will participate in this blog by sending links Sarcasmo would have posted, stories, commentary, or whatever you feel appropriate to slf1954@verizon.net.
