copying and pasting

sitting down doing nothing is not that all unproductive. in my case, it pushed me to think about small things in life. and one of them is "copy and paste". i know it's silly but just think of it. when was it first used? to what machine and what operating system? how was it conceived or how did originate? now, if you ask why is it important to discuss this, it is not. well, not so important, in general. my point, anything can be worth blogging. even just the tiniest, unrespected matter or, in this case, action.

let's define it first. copying and pasting requires the action of highlighting a certain character, file or element first. then, copying by several means like pressing ctrl+C or clicking file on drop down menu the selecting the word "copy". finally, going to where it is to be pasted and pasting it by, this time, pressing ctrl+V or clicking file on drop down menu the selecting the word "paste". let me remind you that this is only limited to what i know. other procedures and articles are all over the net.

next, how did it came about? let me check google.

The term "cut and paste" comes from the traditional practice in manuscript-editings whereby people would literally cut paragraphs from a page with scissors and physically paste them onto another page. This practice remained standard as late as the 1970s. Stationery stores formerly sold "editing scissors" with blades long enough to cut an 8½"-wide page. The advent of photocopiers made the practice easier and more flexible.

trial experience

and so i used envelope budgeting and achieved some results: not that astonishing though. i budgeted my last Php1732.00 yesterday to make it last until tuesday, just before the next pay day. i got 4work nights and 2 offs. i need Php250 per work day, which means Php1000 so i still have extra Php732 since i dont have debts and bills to pay for now. that's a good sign considering i'm already thinking that i'll have no money when tuesday comes. what makes it work? here are what i saw

big view on a small scale - i never get to see the whole picture when i spend or swipe: especially swipe. because there's something with buying that makes me feel easy and comfortable that i want to do it again. without consulting the purse. but last night i saw the details on my spending. i know i love food and that was the time i realized that i eat for comfort. so, i know i spend too much on that part and that's where i need to watch out.
preventive measure - knowing that i only have money for food and transportation made me back-off on those luscious donuts with custard inside and icing on top. need i say more?

these are just two of, i should say, benefits that it can offer. i have some more at the back of my mind. but i just got back from work and i want to sleep. so, ponder on these for and i'm pretty sure you'll have your own list once you've tried this envelope thingy.

budgeting 101

to dig deep into envelope budgeting, i must simplify the term first. hence, i need to make sure i understand the word budgeting... budget.

A budget (from old French bougette, purse) is a financial plan and a list of all planned expenses and revenues. It is a plan for saving, borrowing and spending

so, basing from the definition, it can be simplified as... (income - expense = 0) where income is defined(in my own words) as any monetary device labeled with currency which was received and/or is available to be consumed by the calculated expenses. while expense is a calculation of how the income will be used.

some might ask where saving lies in the formula. since, i believe that it is one of the elements of expenses, let me extend the formula to: [income - (saving +other expenses) = 0]

i still have doubts on this calculations, though. so, any comments and suggestions are encouraged for a healthy discussion.

envelope budgeting

i've always had a hard time saving up for the rainy days. i'm always stuck in the part where i have no idea where the money is going to. and believe me, i hate that part. so i scoured the net to look for ways how to solve this eff-ing problem and googled(i wonder if this verb is already an entry in the dictionary) budgeting. then i thought, why don't i just check its wikipedia entry. unfortunately, all information inside that entry were on a macro-scale of the word itself. and fortunately, except the "see also" part. there lies the phrase envelope system.

although there's just a small info about it, the description how the system works gives enough overview on how it works basically: enough to make me save.

"Typically, the person will write the name and average cost per month of a bill on the front of an envelope. Then, either once a month or when the person gets paid, he or she will put the amount for that bill in cash on the envelope. When the bill is due, the money is taken out to pay for that bill.

This prevents the person from spending the money out of their pocket or bank account, because it is already allocated to the bill."

But why stop there? the basics will make one save. but knowing the entirety will make wonders. a little more on that matter, later.

it's amazing to find something new with blogger.com interface. i'm not that enthusiastic about it though. with all this white stuff allover the screen that somehow looks over my shoulder every once in a while. well i don't want to dwell that much on this change. let's just embrace it. moving along.

i got stuck with words on this song that i want to finish by tomorrow. i have no instrument to use so im hoping to finish at least the lyrics. sad part is my rhyming brain is not that functional right now. so, i headed online to look for some sites or software that can help. here's what i got:

analogx.com's rhyme came to mind first as it's what i used before. a simple to install software that returns numerous results that, most of the time, ends up confusing. good thing is you can use it offline. so i started searching.
3d2f and the next one got my attention. but let me pour my heart out on this one first. one word: confusing! it gave me more list to figure out. so click on the first. then it lead me to several pages before i get to download. then, i have to figure out which of the links i needed. then after few minutes, i found it only to be more confused... i am to download a 249MB of a .dmg which turned out to be for mac engines and not for windows. i know, right?!
writeexpress is the best one for the job, for now. it's simple enough that it cuts the "getting to know" time short. just type the word, click rhyme and choose a word.

i didn't continue to search because im running out of time for the lyrics and this entry.

long time no see

it has been a while since i've posted. a lot of things has changed and since i got a pc again i would say i'm back on track. a little polishing here and there would be appropriate. not to mention a little maturity would do a lot of good.

so let's open the store, make some good changes, and push hard.

i really don't know what i'm talking about since its already 4am and i'm quite dizzy. i just hope and pray that i'll know what i have to do.

i was looking for race videos over the net. but using the word "race" on search engines gave me race to witch mountain. i got curious and watched it. sad to say, it ain't my type.

fair casting and not so good effects is what i can say. it's not good, but, its not bad, either. i don't recommend to buy or rent it. borrow it from someone you know that owns one. or, maybe, download it from thepiratebay. i also won't recommend that you keep it in your hard drive. it's not worth keeping. oh, and garla gugino is still hot.

gamer 2009

i got interested with the gamer because of gerard butler - very good acting on 300. but it didn't started there. it started with the spy next door of jackie chan where i saw amber valletta. and as an info geek that i am, i searched for other movies she starred. and gamer was her last movie before the comedy/spy flick.

review? it's bloody, sexy and cool! which means it's good. i would recommend it to be watched on the big screen. but hd/plasma at home will do.

linux firsts

i came across the linux timeline in wikipedia and learned that there are three major distros(distributions) where most of them came from.

ubuntu, KNOPPIX and gibraltar are some of the distros that were based from debian. i would say it's a cross between slackware and redhat - and that's based from some of my research. i just dont have time to post details

madriva, fedora and the "philippines distro" bayanihan are based from redhat. a very corporate feel and stable distro if you ask me

slackware, which was the basis of openSuSE and vector, is a hobbyist distro basing from its history. althought, its support and community are as stable.

learning linux

i've always wanted to learn linux for years. but i'm still stuck with this crappy w!ndows v!sta - yes, v!sta. the crappiest of them all. and now that i have some time and a spare laptop to use, i managed to install ubuntu studio. why ubuntu studio? i just got fascinated with the programs it came with.

the first thing i checked was if i could go online, wireless that is. sad to say, the browser couldn't fetch anything. fortunately, getting the laptop wired got me online. and that's one less trouble for me.

now, the problem at hand is that there is no wireless connection. solution - search the web.

i landed on ubuntuforums.com and found out that ubuntu studio doesn't install the gnome network manager which is like the "view available networks" on xp and "connect to a network" on v!sta. so, lets just install it. i mean, lets try to install it.

skyfire browser

I recently rediscovered skyfire browser. and when I say it's good, it's very good. it took me a day to get the hang of it on my samsung i780. after that, it's all worth the surf. still figuring out though, the multiple tab function. that's if ther's one.

back when I first got this i780, I remember that i installed the older(i guess) version of skyfire which I didn't like. so, I opted for the opera. but I think i'll be switching again this time...

pay to click sites

...or "ptc" as what it's called. you click, the site pays. it's as simple as that. before, i thought it was a lame idea that one just click all day. but, with this recession, anything will do just fine as long as it pays. "pay-to-click" sites are everywhere. i guess there are more than a hundred of them. however, 90% of them are scam. so, please be careful on how you approach this financial tool. i call it financial tool because it really, does pay. but not on how you think it does: clicking. clicking or viewing ads all day is cheap compared to putting up a banner and asking people to sign up for a program. yes, it's like selling and it's called referrals: just like in the networking scheme.

you just have to sign up, login, put your banner onto some sites/blog you have and wait for people to click on them and hope for them to sign up. now, there's another something lame. but, if you think about it, it pays better than clicking. and you wont have to stay all day infront of the pc to click. you can just sit back and relax. however, putting more effort into anything gives better results and this is no exception. if you wanna find out more about "pay-to-clicks" then let us learn them together. i put up another blog for it because putting banners here will mess up my adwords account. visit http://sarisari-ptc.blogspot.com/ and find.

i needed to print a music sheet for this idea that's been bugging me. google gave some options like:

but 8notes.com has a lot to offer aside from music sheet. so, it's best to browse around. blanksheetmusic.net needs you to sign-up and login before you can program your own music sheet and print it. and, sad to say, the sheet cant be save as pdf or picture file, which will get you to login everytime you want to just print. the university of virginia's (uva) page has limited, but very useful, collection. and if you're looking for the ordinary sheet here's the link thanks to uva. it has 10 stave and it's to be printed on a regular (8.5x11) paper.

let's make crème brûlée

i first tasted crème brûlée as a flavor of zagu's product. and from then on, it was my favorite from their line-up.

and now that i have learned it to be the best (if not one of the best) dessert, i looked for its recipe and it led me to this video from youtube.

thinking about resurrecting my 81 colt mirage to a rally spec car, i remembered there was a book about it - race and rally car source book: the guide to building and modifying a competition car by allan staniforth. i saw it the first time in national bookstore in eastwood city, libis and heard that a friend of mine owns one. here's its cover (thanks to haynes.co.uk)

on the process, i also found a site for kids. kidsdownload is a blog where you'll find ebooks for kids such as rally car race: a short story by annette smith and illustrations by richard hoit. it's about a kid who enjoys watching rallies on tv.

samurai x

i just finished reading the manga, rurouni kenshin ("samurai x" in the philippines), thanks to onemanga.com. midway, i was intrigue with the whole story that i've searched for the other media. wikipedia.org has most of the list and thepiratebay.org has some torrents including film, videos and ost. a reminder: if you like it, buy it!

the plot has a great twist, though it was not shown in wikipedia.org. the emotion of the story gets deeper as you read farther. it was my fave when i watched it in studio23 and it still is.

learning fiberglass: day 1

i took a seminar with polymer products philippines inc this morning and i'm very pleased with how the day went.

my first reason was to create my own parts for the car but it turned out that there are a lot of things that can be done with, not just fiberglass, but resins as well.

the first day was about learning polymers in general. we tackled its applications in construction, marine uses, land and air transportation, agro-industrial, consumer products and medical uses among others. material are also discussed like resins, hardener, toner, dye, gelcoat, release wax, cellophane, molding clay and fillers. mr. samonte demonstrated some processes such as, encapsulation, stained glass making and cultured marble.

tomorrow is when we get our hands dirty. we'll do figurines and maybe learn to create molds. i'm looking forward into it. grasping the concept is easy but learning by hands-on experience is the way to go.

an idea came to me to write about blog etiquette. however, creating one is too late. google gave me tons of links from keywords like "unwritten rule" and "blog etiquette". so, there's no need to add to the pile. besides, its better for me to read to learn more about blog etiquettes. here's my list of 10 blog etiquette pages that i find very informative.
