The Ultimate Sarong Guide: Styles, Uses & How to Wear Them

A sarong is one of those pieces that slips into your day without much thought, bringing a sense of relaxation and escape with it. Light, versatile and endlessly wearable, it’s become a favourite for anyone who enjoys a laid-back lifestyle, whether that’s by the water, on holiday or at home.

In this sarong guide, we’re taking a closer look at what makes this piece of fabric so chic and useful. Discover how to wear a sarong and the many ways it can add colour to your day.

What is a sarong?

A sarong is a long, lightweight piece of fabric that wraps around the body, creating one of the simplest and oldest garment styles still worn today. The name comes from the Malay and Indonesian word “sarung”, which means “to cover” or “to sheath”. This meaning of sarong reflects its original purpose as an everyday wrap tied around the waist. For generations across the Nusantara and wider Asian region, the sarong was one of the first forms of woven fabric worn by both men and women, valued for its practicality and ease of movement.

Traditionally, the fabric was tied like a tube around the hips, but over time, people have found even more ways to wear it. Modern sarongs can come in different colours, prints and lengths, giving you plenty of room to choose something that suits your plans and personal style.

What are the types and styles of sarongs?

Sarongs come in a range of lengths and designs, each offering its own look and feel.

Full-length sarongs

These offer generous coverage and can be worn as dresses, skirts or wraps. They’re great when you want something flowing and versatile.

Half sarongs

Shorter in length, these are easy to tie at the waist and perfect for quick cover-ups or a lighter layer.

Printed sarongs

From bold patterns to soft, earthy designs, printed sarongs bring personality and colour into any look. Tie-dyed and batik-inspired sarongs are popular choices, offering those beautiful artisanal details and subtle variations that make each piece feel unique and full of character.

Solid-colour sarongs

Loved for their simplicity, these sarongs create a clean look and pair easily with whatever you’re wearing.

What are the common fabrics used for sarongs?

Sarongs are made in a wide range of fabrics, and each one affects how the sarong drapes, feels and performs in different conditions. Here are the most common fabrics used:

Rayon

Rayon is known for its silky drape and comfortable feel. Rayon fibres absorb dyes exceptionally well, resulting in rich and vibrant colours and patterns.

Cotton

Cotton is breathable and easy to care for, which makes it a favourite for daily use. It has a natural feel on the skin and suits anyone who prefers a casual fabric with a timeless look.

Silk

Silk sarongs have a luxurious flow that feels beautiful to wear. They offer a smooth texture and gentle sheen, making them perfect for those who enjoy a more refined or elegant look in their wardrobe staples.

Linen

Linen sarongs have a crisp, airy quality that suits hot days and coastal living. Although slightly more textured, linen softens over time and offers that naturally effortless look many people love.

Polyester and synthetic blends

Synthetic materials like polyester can be durable, quick-drying and resistant to wrinkles. These blends are practical for travel, regular use and those who want a fabric that holds its shape well.

Each fabric brings its own charm, so choosing the right one often comes down to how you want your sarong to feel and how you plan to use it. Whether you prefer the softness of rayon or the breezy crispness of linen, there’s a fabric to match every mood and moment.

How do you wear a sarong?

One of the reasons sarongs have stayed popular for so long is the sheer ease of wearing them. There is no strict method to follow and no right or wrong approach.

As a classic waist wrap

Fold the fabric lengthwise if you prefer a shorter look, then wrap it around your hips and tie the ends together at the side or in front.

As a chic dress

Hold the sarong behind you, bring the top corners forward, cross them over your chest and tie them behind your neck. This creates a relaxed halter dress that is ideal for beach walks or slow mornings at home.

As a shoulder wrap

Drape it around your shoulders like a shawl when the breeze picks up or when you want a little extra coverage. This is especially handy when travelling or spending the day outdoors.

As a scarf or throw

Roll or fold the sarong and wear it as a lightweight scarf, or spread it out as a picnic throw or sun cover. Its generous size makes it easy to repurpose depending on what you need at the moment.

The best part is that wearing a sarong never has to feel complicated. Once you have tried a few simple ties, you will find your own favourite ways to style it and let it become part of your everyday rhythm.

When to use a sarong

A sarong is one of the most versatile garments you can own. It works in everyday life, travel, beach settings, special occasions and even as part of your wardrobe at home. Here’s a clear breakdown of when to use a sarong and why it’s so useful.

For beach and pool days

Sarongs can serve as a cover-up, something soft to sit on or a simple way to move between the water and the rest of your day without needing to change outfits completely.

For travel plans

Wear it while wandering through markets, wrap it around your shoulders when you need a little extra coverage or use it as a light layer during flights and long drives.

For outdoor adventures

Spread a sarong out for a picnic, fold it into a simple seat cover or drape it over yourself as a light barrier from the sun. Its generous size and soft texture make it an ideal companion for moments spent outside.

For days that need a little colour

On days that feel a little flat, knowing how to wear a sarong can brighten things right away. The prints, textures and colours you choose can shift your mood and outfit in small but meaningful ways.

FAQs

Why are sarongs popular in Australia?

Sarongs are popular in Australia because they suit the way many of us like to live: relaxed, outdoors and never too far from the water. They’re light to wear, easy to pack and simple to slip on when you want a bit of coverage without any fuss.

What is the best material for a sarong?

The best material depends on the feel you prefer. Rayon has a smooth, elegant fall, while cotton gives you a more grounded, familiar touch. Linen brings an airy structure, whereas silk offers a refined finish.

Are sarongs good for summer and travel?

Absolutely. Sarongs are multi-purpose and can be worn, wrapped or used in a variety of ways. They're especially practical when you want to pack light.

Can you wear a sarong as a dress or skirt?

Of course! Sarongs can be tied at the waist as a skirt or styled as a dress with a few quick knots. Their generous size makes it easy to adjust the look to suit whatever you’re doing.

by Bernie Foy, Founder of Sarong Hut

If you’ve ever packed for a solo beach getaway and thought, “Why do I need five pairs of shorts when I live in my sarong anyway?” — you’re halfway to understanding the magic of a capsule wardrobe.

A capsule wardrobe is about doing more with less — choosing a handful of pieces that work together effortlessly, so you can pack light, look amazing, and focus on the adventure (or the afternoon nap).

As a former flight attendant, here’s what goes into my summer capsule wardrobe — founder-tested, beach-approved, and perfect for anyone chasing a sun-soaked, slow-travel kind of life.

1. The Foundation Pieces

Think breathable cotton tanks, a linen shirt, and a pair of relaxed shorts. Keep it neutral so everything mixes and matches — I’m talking white, sand, and soft olive tones. Add a sarong (obviously) — it’s your beach cover-up, tablecloth, wrap skirt, towel, and plane blanket all in one.

My pick: The Bondi Luxe Sarong, for easy transitions from beach to bar.

2. Statement Layer

Choose one hero piece that makes you feel like the main character of your own summer story — a printed sarong, bold kimono, or a lightweight maxi that doubles as a dress or duster.

My go-to: The Batik Cotton or one of the Mini sarong — folds small, travels everywhere.

3. Footwear & Accessories

Keep it simple: one pair of sandals, one pair of slides. Add a straw hat, a cotton tote or backpack, and sunnies that make you feel a little bit famous.

4. The Solo-Trip Mindset

A capsule wardrobe isn’t just about clothes — it’s about energy. Packing light frees you up to explore more, stress less, and actually enjoy your own company.

If you’re off on a solo beach trip, give yourself permission to make it beautiful, easy, and light — just like the wardrobe that comes with you. I pack my capsule wardrobe into a wheelie carry-on so there are no bags to check in.

Final Tip

You don’t need more stuff to feel put-together — just better stuff that feels like you.

Build your summer capsule with intention, and every outfit becomes a story.

Why Rayon and Cotton Beat Polyester Sarongs Every Time

Let’s be honest: no one wants to wear a clingy, sticky sarong when it’s 32°C (90°F for our American fans) and you’ve just come out of the ocean.

By the time you’ve hit a few good beach holidays in life, you know that not all fabrics are created equal — especially when it comes to sarongs. Polyester might be cheap and cheerful on the rack, but when it comes to comfort, breathability, and that breezy holiday feeling? Rayon and cotton take the crown.

So let’s unpack why natural-feel fabrics like rayon and cotton are the only way to go for your next beach wrap.

☀️ 1. Breathability = Bliss

Polyester is made from plastic (yep, really), which means it traps heat and moisture against your skin. That’s the last thing you want on a hot beach day.

Rayon, on the other hand, is soft, breathable and quick-drying — perfect for tropical climates. It drapes like a dream and flows beautifully whether you’re lounging poolside or wrapping up for lunch at a beach café.

Cotton gives you that lightweight, slightly textured feel. It’s cool, classic, and becomes even softer the more you wash it. Our Freedom Cotton Sarongs are made from voile cotton — extra light and floaty, like wearing a whisper.

💧 2. Comfort for Real Life (and Real Bodies)

Polyester sarongs tend to stick and ride up in all the wrong places. They don’t move with you — they fight you.

But rayon and cotton? They move with your body. Whether you’re tying it as a halter dress or wrapping it around your waist after a swim, these fabrics sit comfortably and don’t dig or cling. Think relaxed, free-flowing comfort, not fabric-induced drama.

If you’re after something soft and flattering, try our Jungle Luxe Sarong — slightly oversized with a silky drape that suits all figures.

🌿 3. Natural Feel, Ethical Roots

Rayon and cotton are plant-based fibres. While they do require thoughtful sourcing, they feel natural on your skin and are far more sustainable long-term than polyester, which is made entirely from petroleum.

At Sarong Hut, we work exclusively with small, family-owned businesses in Indonesia, India and Turkey. Every sarong is hand-printed or hand-dyed — no mass production, no plastic-fantastic prints.

Looking for something with character? Our Freedom Pink Cotton Sarong is hand-stamped in India and softens beautifully with every wear.

🏖️ 4. Looks Better. Lasts Longer.

Polyester prints often look overly shiny or slightly ‘off’ in the sunlight. They can fade fast, especially in saltwater and sun.

By contrast, the natural dyes and hand-stamped patterns on our rayon and cotton sarongs get better with age. Our Free Spirit Teal Beach Sarong is a relaxed everyday favourite — lightweight, packable, and built for beach days.

✨ The Takeaway?

Polyester might be everywhere, but it’s no match for the comfort, breathability, and beauty of a well-made rayon or cotton sarong. If you’re heading off on a holiday, investing in a few quality wraps will make all the difference — especially if you’ve grown to appreciate a good breeze, a good fabric, and zero cling.

Ready to feel the difference?

At Sarong Hut, we've got your back with some super easy and stylish ways to wear it. So, grab your favourite sarong, and let’s get you looking sharp! Explore our full range of men’s sarongs

1. Over the Shoulder:

For a laid-back yet sophisticated look, try wearing your sarong over your shoulder. This style is perfect if you’re strolling along the beach and want to add a little more flair. Simply drape the sarong across your body, and let one side hang over your shoulder. This look screams "tropical chic" and will have you feeling like you’re on a luxury vacation – even if you’re just hanging out at your local pool! 🏖️

2. Side Tie: Effortlessly Cool

If you're after a style that’s simple, yet super cool, the side tie is your go-to. Take your sarong and wrap it around your waist, then tie it on one side. You can adjust how tight or loose you want it for comfort, and it’s a great option for those warm beach days. Plus, it’s an easy way to show off your laid-back style – perfect for everything from casual beach walks to hanging out at beachside bars. 🍹

3. Front Tuck: The Classic Look

For a polished yet easy-going look, the front tuck is a classic. Wrap the sarong on your waist with the exces fabric tucked at your waistband up front. This creates a streamlined, elegant look that’s perfect for casual dinners or evening beach parties. It's comfy, practical, and adds a dash of sophistication without trying too hard. 🌴✨

4. Crisscross Front Tuck: Double the Style

Want to step up your sarong game? The crisscross front tuck is a fab way to add a little more structure to your look. Take the two ends of your sarong and wrap them across your body before tucking them into the waistband at the front. This look is super stylish and gives off a fresh, confident vibe, making it a great option for both day and night. 😎

5. Wrap and Roll: For the Adventurous Soul

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try the wrap and roll? This style is perfect for those who love experimenting with their look. Simply wrap your sarong around your waist and roll the top edge over a few times to create a layered, textured effect. It’s a more rugged style that looks fab whether you’re chilling on the beach or exploring a tropical island. 🌺🌴

6. Asymmetric Front Tuck: The Modern Twist

Want something a little different? The asymmetric front tuck is your chance to get creative! Instead of a symmetrical tuck, fold your sarong on an angle and tuck it in at one side for an asymmetrical look. It’s bold, modern, and guaranteed to turn heads. This style is perfect for the guy who likes to stand out in the crowd and be a bit of a trendsetter. 🌟

Roll, Don’t Fold: Rolling your sarong instead of folding it can save space and prevent wrinkles. This method also makes it easier to fit into tight spaces in your luggage

Use as a Packing Layer: Lay your sarong flat at the bottom of your suitcase or use it to wrap around other items. This can help protect delicate items and keep your luggage organised

Multi-Purpose Packing: Remember that your sarong can replace several items in your packing list, such as a beach towel, blanket, or cover-up. This reduces the need to pack additional items, saving space and weight

Quick Access: Keep your sarong in an easily accessible part of your luggage, such as an outer pocket or the top of your bag. This allows you to quickly grab it for use as a blanket, towel, or cover-up during your travels

Compact Storage: If your sarong comes with a carrying case or pouch, use it to keep the sarong compact and contained.

If you love sarongs as much as I do, I'm sure you'll agree with the incredible versatility of the humble sarong and here's a recap...

Versatility: Sarongs can be used in multiple ways, serving as a beach towel, cover-up, blanket, scarf, and even a makeshift bag

Lightweight and quick-drying: Sarongs are small, light, and dry quickly, making them ideal for beach use and easy to pack without taking up much space in luggage (I used mine while doing the Camino trail in Spain)

Sun protection: They can be used to cover shoulders, chest, or head to protect against sunburn when you've forgotten sunscreen or need a break from sun exposure

Fashion and style: Sarongs come in various colors, patterns, and designs, allowing you to add a personality to your beach outfit while also complementing your swimwear

Modesty and coverage: They provide an easy way to cover up when walking to and from the beach, entering shops, or for those who feel uncomfortable in just a swimsuit

Multi-functionality: Sarongs can be used as makeshift pillows, curtains for privacy, or even as a tablecloth for impromptu beach picnics

Practical alternative: In a pinch, a sarong can substitute for items you may have forgotten, such as a towel or blanket.

Enjoy your next adventure!

Founded by Bernadette Foy

Sarong Hut was born in 2012 by me, Bernadette Foy (aka Bernie). I’m a former swimwear model from the late ‘80’s (giving my age away ha!) and these days, I’m an empty nester which gives me more time to throw my focus into my sarong obsession. I also love camping along the Aussie coast and exploring the world, solo style.

Back in 2011, in the leadup to a holiday, I went searching high and low for a decent sarong and couldn’t find one, so I made the decision to dive deep; research and learn all I could about sarongs. After embarking my way through a mountain of discovery, I went ahead and launched the online hub that you see today; enabling easy accessibility for my fellow sarong loving Aussie’s and sarong-lovers from around the globe.

I have a genuine and real passion for the humble sarong. Sarong Hut is an absolute pleasure to me and I’m really proud of the brand that has slowly evolved over the years.

Small Boutique

As a family operation, Sarong Hut is based in Lane Cove - Sydney and proudly falls into the category of ‘cottage industry’, and I’ll continue to keep it that way. Quality over quantity. From time to time, my sons, Alex & Chris lend a hand in the business and assist with the direction of the Men’s collection, which is fun. My big sister, Shaunagh and I collaborate around designs.

Designs

Aussie owned & designed, the sarong designs are based on comfort, style and freedom. I prioritise comfort, utilising breathable fabrics and I try to offer a broad selection of vibrant and earthy colours to suit different appetites. The collections are made up of various grades of quality rayon and cotton fabrics with a view to suit all budgets. I launch a new collection around-about every 6 months and I’m always open to new ideas and inspiration from clever customers too! Always feel free to reach out to me if I would love to see something I don’t currently have on offer and we can collaborate on a design.

Social Responsibilities

Responsibly sourced, I support local as much as possible and I believe in paying a premium in support of ethical and fair trade when it comes to sourcing materials and labour. Every sarong and accessory is sourced by way of other small family owned businesses.

The majority of the Sarong Hut collection is hand printed using either batik or block style printing methods which adds to the integrity of this cottage industry business and retains respect to the history of the sarong.

The Future

In 2023 I’m now steering packaging away from single use plastic to biodegradable and no-plastic where possible, while still respecting the integrity of the sarong during transit to you.

Later this year, I’ll be launching the very first 100% organic cambric cotton collection which is so exciting! If you’re interested in learning about the various types of rayon and cotton. If you’d like to know any more, please feel free to contact me.

I really do love doing these lifestyle juicing Vlogs! I'm coming up with my own little concoctions all the time. Lovin' it!

With Spring just around the corner, in the Australia, to lose a few extra kilos, I'm having one for breakfast and storing the second batch in the fridge for a pre lunch or afternoon snack. It seriously curbs my appetitive.

i use the Magic Bullet because it keeps all the pulp in tact and to me, this fills me up and is such an easy way to get my serving of fresh fruit and veg each day. Fibre! It's also super easy to clean up.

I buy organic as often as possible. While it does cost a bit more, I find it keeps for double or triple the time than non organic.

The ingredients for this recipe include;

Dark kale

Light kale

Granny Smith Apple

Beetroot

Cucumber

Ginger

Behind the scenes of the Spring Summer Collection, shot last week in Bali

What an incredible day! With a wake up call of 5:30am we didn't call it a wrap until 7pm. Shot on location at Echo Beach, Caggu, Bali

Our photographer Gerhard worked relentlessly, along side Stylist, Mary Joe and of course the three gorgeous models. The new collection will be available for purchase, early September!

A special thanks to Rigon Headwear for supplying a collection of their latest seasons headwear

Here's a quick interview with Gerhard on his life in Bali

Q You did an amazing job with the Sarong Hut Spring Summer Collection photo shoot in Bali in July '14. You directed the models beautifully! Do most of your fashion shoots run for 13 hours like ours did?

It really depends on the job. Some shoots may only take an hour or two. Others a few days.

Q How old were you when you became a professional photographer and what inspired you?

I was about 29 years old. I was originally working in film and television while doing still photography in my spare time. What swayed me to do photography full time was the simplicity and immediacy of telling a story of a single moment as opposed to many moments in film and tv.

Q Describe your first big break as a professional photographer.

My first big break as a photographer happened when a Music magazine in South Africa asked me to photograph an Alanis Morisette show. That's when it dawned on me how much fun I can have working as a lensman.

Q What would be your perfect client or project?

That's a tough one. I'd say a perfect client/project is one where we are on the same wavelength creatively. Where the collaboration allows us to create images that satisfies all our needs as client/artist.

Q I know you do a mix of surf and fashion photography. I imagine you come across some demanding clients and hopefully Sarong Hut doesn’t fall into that category! How does the average day for each type of shoot differ? i.e. Fashion vs Surfing

The Sarong Hut shoot was a lot of fun. I'd say there's no average day in any field of photography. Locations are different. The people are different. For me it's always fresh and unique. This is why I love it.

Q An original South African, what are the pros and cons of working in Bali as a pro photographer?

For me personally the pros outweigh the cons to the point where the cons are insignificant. I love the Balinese people and culture. The locations and light are amazing and it's still really affordable as a destination/location.

Gerhard Engelbrecht
www.gerhardimages.com

This week, I attended Hong Kong Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014... it was a great experience! I went to a workshop by Hair and Makeup artist, Cecelia Emma Pritchard, Lecturer, Department of Fashion Design Image and I'm here to share her top tips.

Makeup

Current trends on the catwalk are pastel colours and what's definitely trending is the double eyeliner. Either a very painted and theatrical look or the other extreme, very natural. To translate this to street wear, Cecelia suggests you choose what best matches your personality.

Cecelia has decided to go with double eyeliner, in a strong mint colour and framing the lashes with a strong purple mascara for contrast.

Cecelia's model has flawless skin so she's using Mac Studio Sculpt with a very light coverage. Models will sometimes be a little nervous before a runway show and with fast wardrobe changes and hot lights, Cecelia applies foundation to the neck and ears, covering any redness. She mixes a small amount of concealer with the foundation and applies to the under eye, the crease of the nose and either side of the lips.

Cecelia then uses Mac Paint Tube, primer for the eyes and applies it right up to the eyebrow. Emma swears by this product as it creates true staying power for the eyeshadow.

She immediately sets the foundation by pressing with a light powder, particularly under the eyes to prevent smudging.

Cecelia buys a lot of supplies from Korea where she says makeup is super cheap and value for money. She picked up a great, strong mint coloured pencil liner. First she applies black gel liner to the upper lash line, waits for it to dry, then lines the second coat, above and over the black liner in the mint, applying right the way around the eye including the tear duct and under the lower lashes. She then blends out the mint on the lower lashes.

Next up, Cecelia uses a bright purple Dior mascara and builds the lashes, both top and bottom.

Cecelia's leaving the models eyebrows fairly untouched, hover she notes that the full and filled out eyebrow is really popular right now.

With the model smiling, she lightly dusts the apples of the cheek with a soft pink blush and matches the lip with a light pink gloss.

Hair

With swift wardrobe changes, Cecelia is opting for a double ponytail. She then applies 'Shine Spray' to Tigi Bed Head creating a super sleek gloss! I'll definitely be investing in a bottle of that. A note of caution, it's super slippery on the floor, so use sparingly.

Makeup Brushes
I asked Cecelia which brand for brushes are best to use, and she said it really doesn't matter as most are pretty good quality, even the cheaper ones - it's more about finding one which feels right for the task. She also said that synthetic brushes are best used for liquids like foundation and concealer while natural bristles are better for the powders as they're less absorbent.

Live Well

Bernie

Looking for self tanner that suits your skin type can be very challenging... particularly if you want to avoid looking like an Ompah Loompa!

With literally hundreds of brands out there, it can all be a tad daunting so we've put together a list of our top ten self tanners that we've tried and tested to give you perfectly glowing, sun-kissed skin. They're not in any particular order.

Self tanners come in different forms like lotion, mousse, gel, cream, spray and even wipes! Here we go:

1. Sephora Gradual Self Tanning Face Water
From the latest beauty products of Sephora Collection, this is gentle self-tanning formula that gradually gives your skin a beautiful golden glow. It has a non-sticky texture for easy application, it definitely leaves you bronzed and streak free! You might also like the Sephora Moisturizing Bronzing Body Lotion which can give long-lasting hydration without leaving a greasy feel. The bonus with this one actually smells better than other self tanners.

2. Fake Bake Self-tan Liquid & Professional Mitt
Can’t wait all night to have that fake tan you want? Here’s Fake Bake Self-tan Liquid & Professional Mitt to the rescue! With a professional mitt that is included in the box, apply this fast absorbing formula generously onto your skin and leave on for up to three hours. Wash off to take a glimpse of the bronzed deity!

3. Garnier Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer - Self Tanning Mousse
With incessant aim to push the boundaries of suncare innovation, Garnier is brilliant to have this air-whipped self-tanning mousse. Just right for anyone who wishes to have an even, natural-looking tan

4. Xen-Tan Deep Bronze Luxe Lotion
Definitely worth the wait, Xen-Tan’s innovative self tanner gives a streak-free color you’ll surely love. The effect deepens into a dark self tan that can last up to 7 days. So if you want to achieve an ins-TAN-taneous sun-kissed skin, this non-greasy, gentle formula with a light vanilla scent is just perfect!

5. St Tropez Dark Bronzing Lotion
Want to look completely natural? This is absolutely my number one pick! A bit more expensive than the others but far cheaper than having weekly spray tans at a salon. It seems to have more of a green base upon application, as opposed to orange. Grab this steak-free formulation for a more intense tan and be sure to buy the application mitt as well. This is an ultra-absorbent lotion that produces the deepest, darkest natural-looking tan perfect for men and women. You don't even need to rinse this one off.

6. Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion
This self tanner really rocks! If you want to create a golden tan colour in just a few hours, this tinted lotion is an ideal use. No surprises, it gives smooth, even and natural looking bronzed skin you desire.

7. L'Oréal Paris Sublime Bronze Clear Self-Tanning Gel
This one used to be my favourite before switching to St Tropez... but it's still really good! For 100% natural looking tan, try this cooling gel. This innovative self tanner which is the first ever formula free of parabens has convenient spray packaging for easy application. It gives beautiful tan ever with absolutely no streaking!

8. Marks and Spencer Self Tan Formula
For a fabulous looking skin tone, try this fake tanning moisturiser from Marks and Spencer. As promised, this non-greasy lotion can help you get the gorgeous sun-kissed glow you can ever imagine.

9. Melvita's Pro-Sun Gel-crème Hydratant
This bestseller amazing fake tanning gel crème is totally eco-friendly, safe for sensitive skin. So if you’re new to self-tanning products, this light and gentle cream can help you achieve the sun-kissed tone without cringey streaks.

10. Famous Dave's Tanner – Self Tan Wipes
Tanning the smart way? Famous Dave's Tanner comes with incredibly convenient wipes perfect for anyone who is constantly on the go. No mess, no fuss, these non-fragrant self tanning wipes are wrapped individually for easy application and touch-ups.

A note on the Mitts

These are not expensive and they're definitely worth it. They prevent the tanner from absorbing into your hands and wrists. You can but one from a pharmacy or eBay. If you don't use a kit, wash your hands with soap, right after applying and try some sorbelene cream to your wrists before application.

Summary
Self tanning products have come a long way since the 80's. Given a choice, I'd probably try the St Tropez first... it's amazing! Whichever product you choose; just make sure you blend well to avoid streaks and avoid applying to the ankle area.
