DIY Bracelet Holder

Last week when I was lost in Pinterestland I stumbled upon a DIY Bracelet Tower pin. I checked out the tutorial and it seemed easy enough so I decided to try it, putting a sassy spin on it. Bracelet wearin' beer drinkers are gonna love this one 'cause it gives you a good reason to pop open one or two or, actually, now that I think about it, the number of bracelets you need to find a home for will dictate how many beers you'll need to drink! If you are as obsessed with bracelets as I am, you may need to have your friends help you so you stay sober! In case you are wondering what beer has to do with this, I repurposed a beer bottle into a bracelet holder.

If you want to make one, this is what you will need:
-empty beer or any drink glass bottle that has been washed out
-coaster
-ribbon
-Mod Podge (I used matte)
-sponge brush
- flat toothpicks
-E6000 adhesive
-bracelets (of course)

Directions:
-Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge over the label. Try to keep from getting too much Mod Podge on the glass but don't worry if you do as the next step will hide those spots.
-Once the Mod Podge is dry, cut the ribbon into strips so that it will frame the label. This will also cover any spots of Mod Podge on the glass.
-Using a flat toothpick, apply E6000 along the edge where the label meets the glass and then place the strips of ribbon on top of the E6000. I let the ribbon dry for about 30 minutes before I went on to the next step.
-Squeeze a generous amount of E6000 onto the middle of the coaster and spread it to almost the diameter of the bottom of the bottle. Using the toothpick, apply a little more E6000 around the rim of the bottom of the bottle. Place the bottle on top the E6000 you spread onto the coaster and press down firmly so that it sticks.
-Let dry for 24 hours and you now have a seriously sassy bracelet holder!

Before I go, I have to tell y'all about the one bracelet in the pics that I got from Salvaged Creations. In the first pic, it is the brown and silver bracelet to the left of the Mod Podge bottle. I LOVE this bracelet!!!

The knife blade has one of my fave Oscar Wilde quotes hand stamped onto it, "work is the curse of the drinking classes". Gifts for Gracie Update

Miss Gracie had surgery on Friday, all went well, and the vet let Jacquie take her home home yesterday! Gracie is proving to be a seriously sassy kitty. Jacquie is keeping all of Gracie's fans updated on facebook and yesterday Gracie decided she would jump up on the couch to try and get to the windowsill! You would think after just having surgery for a fractured pelvis she would want to just lay around. Jacquie put her in her crate in an attempt to keep her from acting like an acrobat and the little sassy cat tried to climb out!

As yesterday went on, one of the updates was the photo below. I think Gracie should be renamed Houdini!

Gracie is an escape artist

This morning Jacquie reported that last night Gracie took over the living room, pulled out all the toys, and knocked all the dry food out of her bowl and Sheba's bowl. She is already putting weight on her leg and attempted to get on the windowsill again this morning. Sounds to me like Gracie Houdini is coming along just fine and is on her way to a full recovery with a lifetime of harassing Jacquie ahead of her!

Gifts for Gracie

I am an animal lover and so is my friend Jacquie. I want to live in NYC and my hubby wants to live on a big hunk of land away from the city. The only reason I even consider letting him win that one is because then I could rescue lots of homeless animals. Right now he won't let me have more than the two dogs and two cats we have. Enough about me...the real point of this is Jacquie and Gracie.

Jacquie and I first crossed paths when I had just opened my Etsy shop, SassyBelleWares. She was one of my first customers when I started SassyBelleWares and her support helped me get it off the ground. She has continued to be one of SBW's biggest fans and best customers and that means more to me than I can ever express to her! A few years ago we finally got to meet in person and have had quite a few NYC adventures since then!

Jacquie is a kitty lover and has one of her own, Sheba, but she also feeds a stray she named Alice. Well, Miss Alice is a bit of a harlot and has had two litters that we know of. Jacquie has been able to find homes for some kittens but it always seems one is left behind. The first kitten that seemed destined to be a stray was dubbed Little One. Jacquie kept all of her friends current on the adventures of Alice and Little One via facebook. One update was heartbreaking...Little One was hit by a car, died in the street and Alice sat next to Little One's body and howled for awhile.

Fast forward to a new litter and one kitten who was always by Alice's side. Jacquie was determined to not let Little One 2 meet the fate of the first Little One. Whenever Alice and Little One 2 came for their feedings, Jacquie would unsuccessfully try to coax them in the house. If you have ever tried to catch a stray cat you know how hard that is! At one point, Jacquie said it seemed as if Alice wanted Little One safe too as Alice started head butting Little One toward the open door! It finally worked last week and Little One 2 was now off the streets but, unfortunately, it seemed as if maybe she had a broken leg. Jacquie also knew at this point she could not just leave Little One 2 at a shelter so she became Gracie and Sheba now has a playmate! Gracie had her first vet visit and is healthy except that she has a fractured pelvis not a broken leg. Those of you that have pets know all too well about vet bills and the surgery to patch Gracie up is expensive!

Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

I love bananas but only when they have just turned from green to yellow. I do not like them once they have become dark and spotted and I had three that were looking like that. So, what does that mean? Time to use them in a baking recipe. I was getting ready to dig out a recipe I have used before but I decided to check my email first. There was an email of the latest post from one of my favorite blogs, The Farm Girl, and it was a recipe for Peanut Butter Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips! I said to hubby, "This is a sign I am supposed to bake today and use bananas". He just rolled his eyes at me! I checked the ingredients thinking I was going to have to go to the grocery store for at least one thing I did not have, but I was wrong. I had all the ingredients! That was sign number two! Whenever I am going to bake, I usually don't have enough butter in the refrigerator and have to take some out of the freezer and wait for it to thaw and soften. This recipe does not call for butter! Sign number three! So, I started baking and let me tell you the batter was so yummy I knew these muffins were going to be delicious! I made a few changes, some on purpose and some by accident and they still turned out perfect.

Here is the recipe that I cannot take credit for as I got it from The Farm Girl and at the end I will tell you what my changes were.

Peanut Butter Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

3/4 cup unbleached flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
6 tbsp. white sugar
6 tbsp. brown sugar, packed
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp.n salt
3 medium very ripe bananas, mashed
1/3 cup crunchy peanut butter (my fave is Peanut Butter & Co. Crunch Time)
2 tbsp. plain fat-free yogurt (or sour cream)
1 large egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. canola oil
3/4 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips tossed in 1 tablespoon flour

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 9X5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Add a strip of parchment paper or wax paper to bottom of loaf pan, also spraying with cooking spray, for easy removal.

2. In medium mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in bowl; set aside. In bowl of a stand mixer, cream bananas, peanut butter, yogurt (or sour cream), egg, vanilla, and oil. Fold in flour mixture until no streaks of flour remain, then gently fold in chocolate chips.

3. Scrape batter into loaf pan. Bake 40-50 minutes, or until toothpick comes out with few moist crumbs. Cool in pan on wire rack 15 minutes; carefully remove from pan, removing paper from the bottom, and allow to cool completely on wire rack before slicing. Enjoy!

Here are my changes to the above recipe:

1. I made muffins instead of bread. I lined a cupcake pan with cupcake liners and baked them for 20 minutes. I ended up with 12 deliciously moist muffins!

2. I used creamy peanut butter (Peanut Butter and Co. Smooth Operator) instead of crunchy.

3. I used 2% Greek yogurt not fat free yogurt.

4. I used regular sized semi-sweet chocolate chips not mini and I did not toss them with flour.

5. I accidentally added the brown sugar to the already creamed banana mixture so I had to cream the mixture again.

6. Rather than fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture, I mixed it in on the lowest speed of my stand mixer.

7. Rather than fold the chocolate chips into the batter, I mixed them in on the lowest speed of my stand mixer.

These muffins have become hubby's faves so I make them quite often. Try any of these peanut butters as they are fabulous, all-natural and do NOT contain hydrogenated oils, cholesterol, trans-fats, or high fructose corn syrup:

I love bananas but not when they are really ripe and have spotted skin. I usually freeze them when they get spots to use in smoothies or in my Yonanas machine, but I have enough frozen bananas so I decided to use the latest spotted crew for baking. I wasn't in a muffin or bread mood so I searched online for a cookie recipe using bananas and I found a perfect one called Oatmeal Banana Cookies (just click the name for the recipe)! They are super easy to make and if you like banana muffins you will love these. They are not super sweet so you feel like you are eating a healthy cookie. I think next time I make them I will add chocolate chips for a little bit of diet rebellion!

My Southern Living Best Loved Cookies cookbook is my new best friend. Today my new best friend helped me make Mississippi Mud Cookies.
