The show’s star David Lyons (“ER”) recently explained that his character, Vince Faraday, doesn’t have any special powers but, after he is framed and assumed to be dead, he goes underground and is adopted by a carnival troupe/band of thieves led by the mysterious Max Malini (Keith David, “Death at a Funeral”).

After joining the troupe, he takes on the persona of his son’s favorite comic-book character, The Cape, and begins using his cape as a weapon. The show also stars Summer Glau (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) as Orwell, who’s fighting crime in Palm City, and James Frain (“The Tudors”) as a billionaire who has his hands in much of the city’s corruption.

The show debuts with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, Jan. 9 and moves to Mondays the following night.

Check out a behind-the-scenes look at the show and its characters below!

As “The Abducted” opens, An old man shaves his head, washes his face, and picks up a metal mask to wear before kidnapping an eight-year-old boy named Max from his bedroom in New Yonkers.

Olivia asks her cab driver friend, Henry, to help her get into the Department of Defense facility on Liberty Island. He agrees to borrow his cousin’s boat and give her a ride to the island.

Because the Peter Bishop Act of 1991 dictates that every child abducted is to be considered a possible Fringe event, the team investigates Max’s kidnapping. Lincoln analyzes some residue on the boy’s closet: It’s sugar, which the Candyman secretes through his skin: he’s back.

Walternate talks to Colonel Broyles, who says that it’s been four years since the Candyman took his son, Christopher. Broyles did get him back, but he wasn’t a little boy anymore. Broyles wants Olivia back for the case too and Walternate says she’ll be back soon.

Apparently, every two years, the Candyman kidnaps a child between ages seven and nine for 48 hours. But all of them have acute organ deterioration, depleted immune systems, or even had cancer when they get back. Olivia notices incisions on the backs of the kids’ necks too.

The Candyman always has a mask on but some victims remember him as old, some remember him as young.

Olivia realizes that the victims’ conditions are also symptoms of old age. Aging involves the pituitary gland, which can be accessed through the back of the neck, where all of the kids have scars. She begins to realize the Candyman is stealing their youth. They speculate that using some kind of processed pituitary hormones would cause serious side effects, like possibly secreting sugar in his sweat?

Chris tells Olivia he remembers the men’s voices and part of the prayer he would recite. Meanwhile, Walternate tells Broyles to pull this Olivia out of the field tomorrow as she is no longer needed.

Henry calls Olivia and tells her to be at the Red Hook Marina in Brooklyn at 10 tonight.

Charlie traces the prayer to the Astoria Church in Queens, run by Reverend Marcus, who gives them the roster from his men’s group as a list of possible suspects.

When Olivia interviews a young man, Wyatt Toomey, he accidentally gives himself away. She calls for back up, shoots him, finding Max in the process.

Wyatt was making an age-regression serum from the kids’ hormones, but how did he figure it out? Olivia realizes someone showed him how, and it must have been Marcus. At Broyles’ house, Marcus shows up for Christopher. Broyles bursts in and shoots the pastor.

After Olivia slips and says FBI during the bust, Broyles realizes that she knows who she is.

Henry takes Olivia to Liberty Island, and she gets to her own side, but she’s being pulled back. Desperate, Olivia begs a cleaning women in a store to do something for her, even though it sounds insane. Then she’s yanked to the Other Side where Walternate orders his soldiers to sedate her.

Meanwhile, Peter and Bolivia are in bed, watching “Casablanca.” Peter gets a call from the cleaning woman who says she just saw a woman disappear in front of her. “Her name was Olivia. She has a message for you: She’s trapped in the other universe.”

Finally, things are getting good, nail-biting, edge of your seat good, on Dexter! With only three episodes left, things are getting intense.

This week, Dexter decided to check out one of Jordan Chase’s seminar, where Chase delivers one central message, “We are born primal, conceived with the impulse to fight for what we desire. It’s written in our genes; it’s ingrained in our souls. But we’ve traded the wilderness for pavement, tress for skyscrapers, we’ve lost touch with our instincts. It’s time to tap into your primal selves and seize the power of instinct.” This actually resonates with Dex, who is only there to scope out Cole, his next victim. “Instincts are all I’ve ever had,” Dexter thinks to himself.

Chase asks Dexter to come up to his suite where he interrogates him about Rita’s death. “I have to say, Trinity fascinated me on a deep level,” he admits. “What else did Jordan and I have in common?” Dexter wonders.

In the meantime, Lumen gets a call from her ex, Owen, who wants her to meet him for coffee, she agrees to meet him for coffee, the next day (after she picks up supplies for the Cole kill). That night, Dexter and Lumen prepare the hotel room together for Cole’s kill. He helps him lay out plastic and he thinks to himself that it is “easier with two people” as he watches her roll out sheets of plastic.

Dexter’s first attempt at the kill was ruined by Cole’s latest sexual conquest. But the next day Dexter had one more chance, and planned to kill him while everyone else was preoccupied by the seminar. But, before Dexter is able to sneak out, Chase calls him on stage and asks him to describe finding Rita to the crowd and explain how it felt. “There was so much blood,” he mumbles. “What did you feel in that moment,” Chase asks, and when Dexter can’t come up with the right word Chase says, “shattered.” “When the primal self is shattered it reaches out in search of what will make it whole again,” Chase explains. “Do you feel that, Dexter, that hunger inside for what will make you whole again?” Dexter nods.

As Lumen is leaving the hotel and leaving Dexter to his kill, she sees his confession playing on a large screen in the lobby. She is compelled to watch, and is spotted by Cole. He follows her to the hotel room Dexter had rented, sneaks in through the adjoining door to his room and tries to choke her. Of course Dexter comes in just in time and is able to fulfill his purpose for being there- killing Cole- with Lumen watching.

The ease with which Dexter had set up the kill room tells her he had killed before and he does confide in her, explaining everything, about his mother, about his other kills, about Rita. “You said I’d done this before, that’s true, this is who I am,” he says, “When I was a child my mother was murdered in front of me and it shattered me. I’ve done this ever since, because for the longest time it was the only way I could feel unbroken. And then Rita was killed and none of this made sense anymore. Until now. Miguel couldn’t, my father couldn’t. Can anyone live with the truth of what I am?” Dexter thinks as he hands Lumen the slide of Cole’s blood, the ultimate intimate act. “Is Lumen what will make me whole?”

On his way out of the hotel, Dexter sees Chase who reminds him not to forget what happened there this weekend. Adding, “Act on what you’ve learned, that’s what I tell my clients, ‘tick tick tick, that’s the sound of your life running out.’” And Dexter realizes this was “watch guy” one of Lumen’s other attackers, and his next victim.

The episode ends with Lumen and Dexter on Dexter’s boat, dumping Cole’s body. Dexter let’s Lumen do the honors of dropping the victim’s head into the ocean. But, little do they know Liddy is photographing them from shore, which means more trouble for Dexter. Will he tell Quinn? Will Quinn tell Deb? Will he be abel to get to Liddy before anyone else knows?

There was one other intriguing storyline in last night’s episode. In an attempt to cover herself after the botched take down of the Fuentes brothers which left an informant dead, LaGuerta starts looking for a scapegoat. Initially, she wants to give them Ciara, but Deb objected, suggesting that since she was the supervising officer, LaGuerta should use Deb as the scapegoat, but also insists the best thing to do is stand together as a team. But, instead, LaGuerta takes Deb’s advice and throws her under the bus.

Deb is at Quinn’s place when she sees LaGuerta’s press conference “Not even La Guerta can deny that you’re a great detective,” he tells her. “At the end of the day, you’ll be the one left standing.” Her rage only intensifies when she finds out Ciara backed LaGuerta. “I came here hoping to learn from you,” Ciara tells Deb. “What you did, you would never learn from me. Good luck, you’re going to need it,” Deb responds and storms out. Batista stops her in the parking lot and tells her he’s behind her. “I’m going to do whatever it takes to set the record straight,” he says. “I was stuck between a rock and my wife, but I decided I’m backing you. You’re like my kid sister, but better because I actually like you.”

Will this mean the end of Batista and LaGuerta?

Deadline.com is reporting that Fox is in negotiations with Sony Pictures TV for a midseason order of the series. Even though the show’s pilot tested well in May, the network passed on the series for the fall. But, they did keep the project alive by ordering two scripts in June. Sony then extended the options on the cast, which means they should all be available if Fox decides to go ahead and order more episodes.

“Breaking In” is a single-camera workplace sitcom about a digital security firm. Insiders expect Fox to use the show as a replacement for the chronically underperforming “Running Wilde” in the 9:30PM ET slot on Tuesdays.

This will be the third series for Slater in as many years. He also starred in “My Own Worst Enemy” on NBC in 2008 and “The Forgotten” on ABC in 2009, both of which were canceled after only one season.

Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t seem satisfied with just being an Oscar award-winning actress, it looks like she’s ready to take over the country music industry too.

The actress made her live country singing debut last night when she performed “Country Strong” at the 2010 Country Music Association Awards with Vince Gill. The song is the first single from the soundtrack for her upcoming movie, “Country Strong”, in which she plays a washed up country star ready to make a comeback.

After she performed, she received a standing ovation from the crowd and decent reviews from critics, many of whom admitted they were ready to pan the performance before it even started.

Entertainment Weekly critic Ken Tucker said that even though Paltrow appeared nervous, her vocals were stong. “Strumming an acoustic guitar, looking a little nervous but singing the movie’s title song in an expressive, surging tone, she didn’t really need the assistance of the wonderful Vince Gill, there to give a polite country-industry imprimatur to Paltrow’s efforts,” Tucker wrote.

New York Times music reviewer Jon Caramanica added, “The surprise was that she didn’t need [Gill]’s steadying hand nearly as much as some of the night’s other performers.”

Meanwhile, New York Post writer Jarett Wieselman said he was waiting for a “car crash,” but changed his mind after seeing Paltrow’s full performance. “Gwyneth delivered a very solid — if not sensational — performance,” he said.

Singer Miranda Lambert agreed with the critics telling USA Today that she thought Gwyneth did a great job. “She sounded really country, I think. She seems very genuine,” Lambert said.

You can see Gwyneth’s performance on the CMAs below:

For starters, Kurt’s world was turned upside down when he had to deal with the constant bullying from jock Dave (Max Adler). When he couldn’t take it anymore, he heads over to Dalton Academy, which has a zero tolerance policy amongst students, and a competing glee club, The Warblers.

There, Kurt meets Blaine and the two instantly hit it off. Blaine (who, like Kurt, is openly gay) takes Kurt under his wing and encourages him to stand up tot he bullies. Back at school, Kurt confronts Dave in the locker room and he kisses him. A stunned Kurt confides in Blaine that it was actually his first kiss with a boy.

While Kurt is dealing with bullies (and potential love interests) Coach Beiste quits after finding out that the boys use her as an image to cool down during hot make out sessions. But, before she leaves, she confesses to Will that she’s never been kissed, so he puts an end to that.

Puck returns from juvenile hall and befriends Artie to take hours off of his community service sentence. The two become an unlikely pair and even go on a double date with Santana and Brittany but Puck is afraid it will all end soon if he sent back to juvie.

The musical highlight of the night was a mash-up the boys did of En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind” with the doo wop classic “Stop In The Name of Love” by The Supremes.

What did you think of the episode, was it up to par?

And yesterday her replacement was finally announced: Nancy O’Dell.

O’Dell told People magazine, “I remember watching ‘Entertainment Tonight’ when it first premiered and dreaming about working for the show some day. … I am honored to be the one chosen to fill a TV legend’s seat and I hope I can do her proud!”

As the announcement was made, Hart added, “Leaving this job was not an easy decision, but knowing I will pass the baton to Nancy O’Dell makes that decision much easier. … Nancy is a talented and respected entertainment correspondent. We have spent many years working on opposite sides of the celebrity battlefield and I know the show will flourish with Nancy as co-anchor.”

O’Dell will join the show in January as a special correspondent and after Hart finishes her final season on the show in May, O’Dell will step into the role of co-host alongside Mark Steines.

O’Dell previously hosted the rival show Access Hollywood for 13 years before quitting last December. She will also be hosting Fox’s New Year’s Eve programming in 2011.

Conan O’Brien returned to TV last night with the debut episode of his new TBS show, Conan.

The show opened with a pre-record video montage called “Last season on ‘Conan'” which shows Conan getting fired at NBC, getting turned down at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (by Jon Hamm!), doing a short stint at Burger King and finally meeting with Larry King who had just two words for him: “Basic cable.”

The rest of the show was typical Conan including a couple string dances and a few cracks at NBC. “It’s not easy doing a late-night show on a channel without a lot of money and that people have trouble finding. That’s why I left NBC,” he quipped.

Conan welcomed Seth Rogen as his first guest. Rogen joked, “I’m so glad everyone else more famous was busy.” Lea Michele was Conan’s second guest and also had nothing but flattering things to say to the talk host, she even commented on his notoriously wild hair. “And your hair looks amazing,” she told him. Conan jammed with musical guest (and friend) Jack White, the two even recorded together over the summer.

Overall a solid start, but the most impressive aspect of Conan’s debut show is definitely the ratings. The show drew 4.2 million viewers and 3.3 million adults in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That’s more than 2/3 of the audience O’Brien attracted for his debut on The Tonight Show in May 2009. Conan beat out all of its direct competition, including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (1.3 million; 690,000 in 18-49), The Colbert Report (1 million; 550,000 in 18-49), Leno (3.5 million, 952,000 in 18-49), and Letterman (3.4 million; 1.3 million in 18-49).
