Dhahran Covid Timeline

2020-05-23T11:19:00.000+03:00

I am going to put these in order as best I can so I have a record of what our world looked like here. This is my interpretation of what I feel like is important to remember I may have missed things so feel free to remind me, some I have taken out purposely since this is public and I don't need to be in trouble for sharing too much. Saudi has been very proactive on controlling Covid and as a result our death rate is very very very low.

Moving

2013-02-12T11:25:00.001+03:00

As you can tell from looking at this blog I have not really updated it in over a year. While I have been answering questions and emails it is just too time consuming to keep it up. Plus storage has become an issue. I have not quit taking photos and still wish to share those. My solution has been to create a page on Facebook. Unlimited storage, easier to add photos. I am still very early in adding the last year of stuff but here it is. I will continually be adding to this page. I will still continue to answer comments and you can still send me email address here which I will answer as well. Thank you for all your support. This blog took off in ways I never imagined!!

2012-10-22T08:15:00.001+03:00

What I believe is part of the Bahrain Military Band. They played for about fifteen minutes in the souk.

Here are some random photos of Barhain from May 2012.

Lingerie Men

2012-05-23T15:32:00.001+03:00

Thankfully Saudi Arabia has banned men from working in lingerie stores, although it is a recent development. Bahrain has not followed suit. I still find it very odd to have men selling underware, bras, and such to women who must wear and abaya and cover themselves. Just seems like a contradiction. Anyway hopefully Bahrain will start employing women in these jobs soon instead of men.

Bahrain Souk

2012-05-23T13:49:00.002+03:00

The souk area in Bahrain is my favorite. I love walking through the walk ways looking at everything. This go around we stumbled upon a small outdoor cafe. It was great to sit and talk with the men there.

Bahrain Pork

2012-05-23T13:32:00.001+03:00

Pork is not allowed to be sold in Saudi Arabia. It is not eaten by Muslims. Coming to Saudi Arabia I never realized how much of it I ate. It has become one of the things I miss about the States. On a trip to Bahrain we were introduced to the Pork Section of a grocery store. Not something you see at all the stores in Bahrain since they are also a Muslim country. It was quite a sight to see. It was also interesting to see the other "American" food in that section. Things like Lucky Charms, and Spam. Ugh!

Bahrain Unrest

2012-05-18T19:39:00.001+03:00

Since Bahrain's unrest began just over a year ago there have been some changes to the scenery. Here are a few of those.

This is on the side of a mosque.

Dhahran Parks

2012-05-13T21:35:00.000+03:00

There are parks all over this camp. The pictures of them are just a fraction of what there is. There will be several within walking distance of your home.

Camel Ride

2012-05-10T11:38:00.001+03:00

I love seeing the camels being transported!

Hubbly Bubbly Bar

2012-05-10T11:29:00.002+03:00

We stumbled upon this huka/hubbly bubbly shop in the souk area of Al Khobar. It had some very pretty pipes.

Desert Lizard

2012-04-30T19:23:00.004+03:00

I almost didn't see these little guy's. They blend in so well!

Hobby Farm

2012-03-24T16:21:00.002+03:00

The Hobby Farm on camp is for those that own horses. It is a very nice facility and there are about 100 horses there. For those that enjoy riding it is a perfect set up.

Scouting in Saudi!

2012-03-24T16:20:00.001+03:00

The Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts of America all have troops/packs on camp that are very active. One of the highlights for the cub scouts in the soap box derby which is always fun to watch. All three scouts are very involved and have multiple activities for the kids. The Dhahran camp is very family friendly!

Dhahran Bowling Alley

The bowling Alley in Dhahran was just renovated this past year. It is very nice!

Jets Galore

2012-03-20T11:21:00.000+03:00

We live next to the Saudi Airforce base. The jets fly daily. They are neat to watch.

Arrival Furniture

2012-03-13T15:42:00.000+03:00

For some reason I thought I had already posted this. These are pictures of the typical sofa and chair in the homes on the Dhahran camp when you arrive. You will be ready for your own stuff!!

Heritage House

2012-03-09T16:31:00.002+03:00

The Heritage House is a museum on the Dhahran Camp. It is one of the oldest homes on camp and has been turned into a museum. It is a neat place and worth a visit. It is across from the Library on camp. Inside there are several displays including the jacket sewn with gold. It is a neat place.
