The Truth is out! As I explored in my novel 'The Tenth Life' in the instance of a fatal pandemic affecting people cats would be considered a possible source of infection and a plan for extermination established. Lord Bethel former Health Minister in the British Government has said that the killing of all cats was considered. The truth has come out as a result of the leaking of 40,000 what's app messages from Matt Hancock - given in confidence to Isabel Oakshot but she has made them available to the Daily Telegraph. It makes my story written before the pandemic even more credible

Cats thrown from cars update

2021-02-03T06:42:00.001-08:00

There have been a number of instances reported recently in which cats and kittens have been thrown from moving cars. There is a theory that this is some sort of perverse game that has been stimulated but images on social media. In Birmingham in November a tiny cat named Annabelle was thrown from a moving vehicle close to a cat rescue centre. Other instances occurred from 2015 in the USA in Austin and New Durham. Cat protection groups are keeping a close eye on this disturbing trend.

Cat virus can kill humanity

2021-01-12T03:58:00.000-08:00

There is a new theory that cats have within their system a virus that could destroy humanity. There are several identified viruses that could leap the species barrier from cat to man. The cat is the most popular of pets - throughout the world they have succeeded in inveigling themselves into the homes of people. Across cultures the stories of the secret power of cats are multiple. Now in this century cats have infections that can spread to children and adults. As Society fears disease from animals, cattle birds so it fears the poor cat.

The threat is unspoken but most Western Governments have operational plans to handle a cat virus that could threaten mankind. The potential cat plague is among us now! See how cats prove the scientists wrong in ‘The Tenth Life’ by Michael J Owen available on Amazon and KDP.

Supercats have superbrains

2020-12-31T06:14:00.001-08:00

A parasite spread by cats can hold the key to successful entrepreneurship according to the Proceedings of the Royal Society. Toxoplasma Gondii is a single cell parasitic that worms its way into the brain and causes personality changes associated with risk taking. Analysis from 42 countries revealed that the prevalence of T.gondii was a ‘consistent, positive predictor of entrepreneurial activity.’ Whether the cats become successful business people is a different story. Read more about how a cat virus can affect their brains in ‘The Tenth Life’ a novel of a cat infection can create a race of supercats available from Amazon on Kindle and in paperback by Michael J Owen. A new study by York University suggests that animal ownership, but largely cats and dogs, helped people in lockdown and kept them fit and active. The lead author of the York University report said; 'The findings demonstrated potential links between people's mental health and the emotional bonds they form with their pets.' One cat owner said 'I have to feed my cat, let her out, stroke her on my lap and worry that she is OK. I don't have time to think of myself!' Once again the efforts to raise the profile of Black Cats in the UK may have failed as the numbers being abandoned continue to rise. Black cat day has come and gone Blue Cross, the animal charity, has taken in it's highest number of black cats ever. In many ways they have great qualities like any cat but with the added distinction of a strong powerful colour. Here Blackie features as a star in The Tenth Life the story of how cats beat the virus!

How the new pandemic has spread to cats

2020-11-19T02:53:00.003-08:00

It would seem we are on the brink of a new pandemic as a new mutation of Covid 19 affects 17 million mink in farms in Denmark. However this is only the latest and largest outbreak. In In June 24 mink farms were infected in the Netherlands and in Teruel Spain almost 100,000 were culled after the outbreak. Cats at one mink farm in the Netherlands had also been infected. The fear is that infection cam spread from the mink to humans. Even more dangerous is the way the virus mutates and changes. Such possibilities are explored in The Tenth Life examining how viral mutations may change animal behaviour. To find out how this might happen and how it could end check out The Tenth Life on Amazon Kindle and in paperback.

Cats can kill or perhaps they can spread a deadly virus

2020-09-29T07:26:00.001-07:00

Cats may be unwitting virus spreaders says University College London September 2020). Professor Joanne Santini said: 'We need to develop surveillance strategies to ensure we don't get taken by surprise by a large outbreak in animals which could pose a threat not just to animal health but to human health as well.' As a result of research this is the very theme explored in 'The Tenth Life' where the cat is believed to be the source of a virus murderous to humanity.

See how this them is explored in 'The Tenth Life' a creative exploration of cats at the centre of a dramatic spread of a virus.

There a five types of cat owners apparently which one are you?

2020-09-28T07:34:00.002-07:00

Exeter University reckon in research recently published that there are only 5 types of cat owners and they range from 'conscientious caretakers' to 'freedom defenders'. They based their scores on how cat owners had varying attitudes to their cats killing birds and small mammals. How do you get into the mind of a cat? It is a difficult process especially when trying to write as if you were in a cats mind as I did in my new book 'The Tenth Life' which imagines the most intelligent cat the world has ever experienced. Cat's leg amputated after airgun shooting! In Caernarvon in Wales Sparky was discovered having been shot in his right thigh which was shattered. Sadly the leg had to be amputated but Sparky recovered at home. Another sad case of historical 'cat attack' . This theme is explored in detail in repeated attacks on cats in 'The Tenth Life' written by Michael J Owen and available on Kindle and Amazon Paperback.

This picture shows 'Patch' looking into our garden. He was certainly stray if not totally feral when he started to arrive. Chevy Chase the male at home wouldn't give him house room but sadly when Chevy died Patch turned up one day having lost the top of an ear and with a face covered in blood. You couldn't turn him away and he is still here. I understand the ear clip is by cat protection organisations to reduce the number of fertile males who are then clipped and can't procreate. Patch made no sound for some years but could hiss in the nastiest way and in a way none of our own cats ever have. He can still hiss but usually when he senses sudden movement or what he perceives as aggression. I tried to imagine a cat battle and how they would face a common enemy and that features as the climax of my new book. Hopefully visually strong and favourable to cats and Patch would be on the front line.

Cats become the heroes in 'The Tenth Life

2020-08-23T07:31:00.001-07:00

When you begin to write a story about cats that have personalities then inevitably you come write about your own. In 'The Tenth Life' there are many brave and strong cats as well as timid and shy ones. Each cat has its own personality and it is hard to work out why two kittens develop different personalities. One of the strongest cats in the story is Craw she is brave, resilient and clever. Even when they look you in the eye you never quite know what they're thinking - this is Sheba - like the Queen of Sheba - dark and brooding and in the book she become a brave and fearsome mother who will fight to defend her young.

'The Tenth Life' Kindle and Amazon available now.

Cats get smarter and smarter but have to outwit man to survive!

2020-08-20T06:19:00.001-07:00

Great to see so many checking the site but we all know how cats really do what they want, when they want and in the way they want. The story of the 'Tenth Life' accepts cats carry viruses but some like Toxoplasma gondii makes them smarter. The cats in my story become much smarter than you ever could imagine and they have to be because man is out to get them!

A cat story that predicts the targeting of cats with a new virus.

2020-08-19T06:52:00.000-07:00

My novel 'The Tenth Life' is on the move! It was in 1995 when the first horrors of mad cow disease were happening and animals were being slaughtered and put into mass graves. I woke up one night smelling burning carcass in the air and a glow on the horizon. It wasn't a nightmare but one of our cats Chevy Chase( he was abandoned on the Chase) jumped on the bed. What would happen I thought if cats had some viral infection they are so close to us we might all die? I collected cuttings and scientific items from that day and have a filing cabinet full of them all detailing the horrors of strange and mysterious viruses that might threaten us all. I eventually started to write the story and did a final edit in March 2020 and due to go to a 'publishers' and writers meeting' when Covid 19 hit and lockdown started. That's when the publishing journey began. I shall be following progress over the next few days. Obviously it it doesn't impact with you fear not but I hope the story as it develops will engage you.

'The Tenth Life' is available on Amazon Kindle and as an Amazon Paperback.

Flogged to within an inch of their lives!

2020-08-16T04:48:00.002-07:00

I think a little more detail is required on the term cat o' nine-tails. It was essentially a punishment device - a whip with nine 'claws' or knots. The nine knots representing the nine lives of a cat. There is a view that the Egyptians who long believed in the positive spiritual role of the cat used such a device using cat hide and that the victim would gain virtue from the beating! There is even a view that the noise the 'cat' made as it flashed through the air was like that of a cat screech. Such implements have been used across nations and empires for many years although it was the British Navy use that made it most notorious - drunkenness a dozen lashes; three hundred for mutiny. Often salt water would be poured on to the wounds ( which did have healing anti microbial properties ) hence the phrase 'pouring salt on the wound which would have been very painful.

Not enough room to swing a cat!

2020-08-16T04:46:00.004-07:00

A colleague just described his hotel room as not big enough to swing a cat. My immediate thought was not the size of the room but why would you want to swing a cat anyway. This would be very cruel. The most probable explanation is related to the cat-o-nine tails the punishment meted out to sailors in the days of sail. Basically the man would have to be taken on deck to administer the punishment...not only to show the crew the severity of the punishment but because there wasn't enough room to swing the 'cat' below deck.

The Caterwaul will wake up the world!

2020-08-05T04:22:00.003-07:00

I hardly ever notice it but if you have feral cats outside they will be most likely the source of the Caterwaul - the sound mating cats make usually at night, It is said to the cats' siren sex call...but not if it wakes you up!

Cats head Zombie Apocalypse!

2020-08-04T06:15:00.001-07:00

A number of conservationists claim cats are a zombie apocalypse for biodiversity that need to be removed from the outdoors by "any means necessary" – coded language for shooting, trapping and poisoning. Various media outlets have portrayed cats as murderous superpredators. Australia has even declared an official "war" against cats.

Moral panics emerge when people perceive an existential threat to themselves, society or the environment. When in the grip of a moral panic, the ability to think clearly and act responsibly is compromised. While the moral panic over cats arises from valid concerns over threats to native species, it obscures the real driver: humanity's exploitative treatment of the natural world. Crucially, errors of scientific reasoning also underwrite this false crisis

Mobile Home houses 30 cats in Arizona

2020-07-30T07:59:00.001-07:00

Nearly 30 cats and kittens were rescued from inside an RV in Arizona by the Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) over the weekend.

The center, based in Tuscon, shared a post on Facebook about the rescue, revealing that they had received multiple reports about the RV and its concerning condition. PACC says the mobile home was 101 degrees inside and covered in feces and urine, with trash piled up around the outside of RV.

All of the rescued animals appear to have upper respiratory issues, PACC says. All of the cats, except for two, appear lethargic. One cat was found dead.

Maine Coon shot

2020-07-30T07:52:00.001-07:00

A young family has been left “horrified” and “outraged” after their Maine Coon Louie was shot by an air rifle in north Auckland.

Sophie Bloy said her pet Louie was “really quiet” and not eating on Saturday after returning home with a wound on his side, which the Bloys thought was an abscess.
