Changes & Transition ...

Almost 2 months ago I announced that I was going to be writing at Savings Lifestyle ~ Cincinnati. If you’ve been reading here long and lately, then you know that since then things have changed here. I’m still blogging and looking for the deals but my focus has turned more to local deals instead of national ones.

So with that I have decided that it’s time for a transition. This will be my last post here at Saving Bits and Pieces. I am going to put my time and attention into Savings Lifestyle ~ Cincinnati.

The things I post won’t change entirely though. My weekly menu plans and Jungle Jim’s Deals will be at Savings Lifestyle ~ Cincinnati. Other things you can expect to see over there are the growing list of Kids Eat Free deals, local events, retail and dining deals and whatever else comes along for the Greater Cincinnati area. I've always linked over to Savings Lifestyle for the weekly Kroger & Meijer match-ups so finding them there should be familiar to you.

Menu Plan Monday December 6th

Time for another Menu Plan and of course another busy week! We stayed home almost all weekend and boy was it nice. My house is clean and decorated for Christmas. The holiday is coming way too fast but I think I'm starting to get excited about it. I still have lots of shopping to do and ideas to come up with my I'm getting there.

Jungle Jim's Ad Week of December 6th

If you're local I hope you've been to ... or at least heard of ... Jungle Jim's. If you're not local, then put Jungle Jim's on a must visit list if you are ever in the Greater Cincinnati Area. As the logo says Jungle Jim's is an International Market. It's also a one of a kind store like none other! Jungle Jim's started many years ago as a produce stand and it has grown many times over the years.

Jungle Jim's does not double coupons and they do not accept printable coupons. Even still there can be some great deals to be had and they have the best produce around. Be sure to check the many "reduced" areas around the store including the reduced produce area which is where I do most of my fresh produce shopping. I watch for reduced meats on every trip too! Jungle Jim's sales run from Monday to Sunday.

Menu Plan Monday November 29th

I've often heard that it takes 21 days to make something become a habit. This is my 52 week in a row with a Menu Plan. I guess it's definitely become a habit, huh?

There are weeks that it takes one look into my freezer and my meal plan is done. Other weeks I struggle for inspiration & new ideas. There are weeks that we eat every dinner planned and some weeks that I almost nothing goes as planned. No matter what though I can't imagine a week without a plan.

If you haven't tried Menu Planning yet, what's stopping you? Trust me ... it will make the age old question of "What's for dinner?" much nicer to answer!

Menu Plan Monday November 15th

The birthday party we had here on Saturday went well. It was chaotic with LOTS of boys (17 of them!!!) plus 4 girls but it went well nonetheless. We slow cooked 3 big pork loins to shred for sandwiches. It was very good ... but 3 may have been just a little to many. Okay - a lot too many. Not complaining though. With a few extra seasonings it will be great for Pork Soft Tacos on Monday night The rest is going in the freezer for an easy dinner of sandwiches in the future. I love when one meal turns into 2 or 3 or more!

Lego Cake

My son Logan is a Lego fanatic! He spends hours building sets and his own creations. So it was fun and fitting to make a Lego cake for his 10th birthday party! Plus I earned some BIG "cool mom" points with Logan for this one.

Using 4 cakes mixes total, I made 5 cakes in loaf pans and 12 cupcakes. I filled the loaf pans two thirds full and the cupcakes less than half full. The loaf pans took longer than a 9x13 to bake. I didn't watch the time though so I can't tell you just how long. They were a great shape for Lego Bricks with the cupcakes as the pegs. I used toothpicks to help keep the cupcakes in place while I frosted the "bricks" with bright colored frosting. I stacked them and added a handful of the real thing around the cakes.

When he saw the cake, my neighbor's son commented "I'm having that kind of cake for my birthday too." His birthday is in September. Guess he's planning ahead!
