Chocolate Whoopie Pies

Pies

1 2/3 cups all purpose flour

2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

4 tbsp unsalted butter at room temp.

1 cup (packed) dark brown sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups milk

Marshmallow filling

1 1/2 cups Marshmallow fluff

1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening

1 cup confectioners sugar

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1. Position rack in center of oven; preheat to 375*. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

2.Sift together flour, coca powder, baking soda, and salt on a sheet of waxed paper. In the work bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter, shortening, and brown sugar on low until just combined. Increase speed to medium; beat for 3 minutes. Add egg and vanilla; beat 2 more minutes.

3. Add half of flour mixture and half of milk to batter; beat briefly on low. beat in remaining flour mixture and milk.

4. Using a spoon, drop batter 1Tbsp at a time onto one of the baking sheets, spacing at least 2 inches apart. Bake one sheet at a time for about 10 minutes or until pies spring back when pressed gently. Remove from oven; let pies cool on sheet for 5 minutes; transfer to a rack to finish cooling.

5. To make filling: Beat fluff and shortening for 3 minutes on medium. Reduce speed to low, and add sugar and vanilla. Beat until incorporated. Increase speed to medium; beat until fluffy. 

6. Sandwich filling between the flat sides of to pies; repeat....

crafts i have been working on...

Here are a couple crafts i worked on yesterday.... They were both super easy, and didn't take very long ( which i LOVE)... I am an Instant gratification person, i don't want to work on something for days / weeks... I am a "Want to get a project done in a few hours" type girl...

Next is the Laundry sign... I have always wanted a cute sign for the Laundry room... Always saw some there were cute, but knew i could do a better job for WAY less then what the stores are asking for...


Don't you just LOVE the little clothes hanging...

Can you believe that both of the boards i bought for $1.50 at IKEA in the "AS IS" section... all the rest of the stuff needed for the projects i had on hand... So for a total of $3.00 i have 2 new adorable signs for the house...

Spring is my absolute favorite time of the year... The colors, the weather, the longer days... So with the love of Spring comes my Love for Crafts, and those two are going hand in hand right now.... I have been on so many blogs lately and have found so many adorable and frugal crafts to make, and so i have...

First one up...

Tile Coaster

Made this coaster as a sample since we made them at MOPS for a craft day... Love how it turned out.

Here is a link to a Tile coaster Tutorial, now it's not the one i followed but the same theory... I actually love the rustic look of the tiles they choose... Guess i better do another one soon...

Family Tile

after making the Tile coaster it got me thinking about making a larger (12x12) tile with out last name and the year we were married.. Love the idea of this one, but don't "LOVE" the colors of this one... Still thinking about how i am going to re-do it... Will update when i do.

Dollar Tree Hurricane's

I love the look of all the fancy yet simple Hurricanes, except don't like paying $15 and up on them.. Especially when i can't just buy one, i want a few of them... I know i am greedy !! LOL ! So when i came upon the tutorial at two twenty one i ran to Dollar Tree and bought 2 candle sticks and 2 small candle vases. $1.00 for each item, so for a total of $4.00 for 2 Hurricanes... Love them and LOVE that they were super cheap..

Kids Chore Charts

Suprise this one was my own idea.... Yep i can think of them, sometimes... ;-) I haven't been consistant with having the kiddos doing chores. I know this is something that i NEED them to do, as i don't want them growing up being lazy and not knowing how to pitch in. While they are still young i need to instill this in them.

I ended up buying 3, 8x10 un-finished wood frames from Dollar tree $1.00 each, and used scrapbook paper i had at home... So total cost was $3.00 !! I cut all the letters with my Cricut, and typed up their chores on the computer. Glued all of it on the sheet of cardstock, then set it behind the glass as if it was a photo... So after the kids do their chores we can write on the glass with a dry erase marker, then just erase when done...

Spring Decor

This was one of my own ideas as well... I ended up getting these frames from the 99 cent store, and i actually like these ones better... They seem like they are make better, and feel sturdier... I will be looking there for them the next time. So $1.00 for the frame, and ended up using the cardstock i had at home. Cut all the cute wording, chick and bird out with my Cricut... I absolutely adore them, don't you !!

Daily To Do

With the idea of the Chore Chart i thought of the "To Do" frame. I am in the middle of re-doing our Family go to area... You know the one, where all the papers get thrown, the phone is at, my purse sits there, and what ever toys the kids have dumped there during the day... This To Do frame will be hanging on the wall once i get the area finished... And of course when that is done i will make a post on here so you can see it...

So as you can see i have been a little busy, but the thing about most of these crafts is that they take less then 1 hour for each... I love that, i am so impatient and want instant gratification so all of them are perfect for me...

Oh, and last but certinaly NOT least.... I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this No sew Ruffle Scarf.

Seriously, how cute is this ???? It was so stinkin easy, ANYONE yes ANYONE can make it... Over at myworldmadebyhand, you can see the step by step Tutorial... Seriously, so easy and took about 45 minutes to make...

Ok, so that is it for now... Hopefully next time i won't have so many things to talk about in 1 post... ;-)

So i do this often... Start something that i want to do, then not finish... I have tried so many times to stop my self but get busy with something else... One of these days i will get a good balance and hopefully get it under control... Till then you get what you get, LOL !!! After all it is free... tee hee hee !!

Here are some Coupon blogs that i follow, Money saving Mom and Save at home Mommy.. These are the 2 that i look at most of the time. I think most blogs work together, so there isn't really much use in following many more then 2-3... Some might have a few things differant, but for the most part they will all be the same....

Here is another coupon / Money saving blog that i found...Southern Cali Saver. Haven't been on it much, but i like that they lady who does it is local... She lives in Riverside county.

When you are getting ready to do you weekly grocery shopping make sure you stop by and see what the current deals are, they will show you by each store as well as what the prices are and where to find the coupons.. Can't get much easier then that, they take all the hard work out of saving money for you...

What i do is get the ad's or go to the coupon blogs and see what is on sale for the week, then make my menu plan.. Another way to make your weekly grocery budget less... (I will put my weekly menu on a seperate post)

Most of the coupons that you will need you can either print online at Coupons.com as well as Target.com, while you are on the target site make sure to sign up for Mobile coupons... They are differant from the ones you will find on their site... They will text you the coupons, and all you have to do is show the cashier the barcode from your phone, and Viola !! You save money...

That is all i can think of for now, when and if i think of something else i will ad it... If you have any questions let me know, i would love to answer your questions...

Mod Podge Hand Tree's

I came across THIS BLOG... and found this Stunning piece of art, then quickly realized it wasn't JUST art, it was as well a family treasure... Each child's hand formed the Tree... How awesome is that ?? I just fell in love with it, and had to do it right away....

So follow the link and it shows you step by step instructions how to make your very own piece of art...

Those are the one's that we made... The far Left is my 9 year olds the middle is my 2 year olds and the far right is my 6 year olds... How cute are they ???? I will treasure them for years to come !!

P.S If you bought a kit from me... When you take the brown fabric and burlap out you will want to iron them so they are nice and wrinkle free before you glue them down... Also, before i glued the leaves down i put a big glob of glue on the burlap where i was going to position the leaves... It was MUCH easier for the leaves to stick...

Ahhhh.. The day is almost here.. For some you may think i am crazy, but yes i do get up around 4 AM to go out and get some great deals..... For the rest of you, know what i am talking about.... You get out there early and scope the store for the best deals... But it doesn't start then, it starts about a month before... You find the Ad's online and start planning what stores you want to go to, who has the best deal for that certain toy / electronic you ~~need~~ want.....

My diaper scenario

After talking with a friend this morning about diaper deals... It got me to thinking... I need to get some for my littlest one, so i was figuring out the best deal...

Here is what i came up with...

Rite Aid ~
Buy 3 packages of Huggies for $8.99, = $26.97 + tax
use a $5/$25 Rite Aid coupon and
3 Huggies coupons.. I will be using a $3.00 off 1, $2.00 off 1, and a $2.50 off 1 pay $14.47 + tax and get back $6.00 Up rewards..

Next buy 1 Package of Huggies for $8.99 use 1 $2.50 coupon and my $6.00 Up rewards, Pay .49 + tax..

So total OOP will be about $15.00 + tax for 4 packages of Diapers.....

Also just wanted to let you know.. I just realized i can print the same coupons from 3 different sites...

Target.com and
Pillsbury.com

They all 3 had if not the same, similar ones... I was able to print out Huggies diapers and wipes coupons, as well as Pillsbury savorings from each site....

Sorry i have been M.I.A for the past 2 days... I am a little stressed as i have signed up to sell Christmas crafts Nov 18-20 at the sugarplumcrafts boutique, and need to make about 80 more advent garlands by then... So needless to say i am extremely busy sewing, gluing, cutting, trimmming, etc to get them done...( I will inform you all about it when it gets closer to the date... I would love to have you come down and see me... I won't work the whole show, but do have to work 2 six hour shifts !!! )

But wanted to inform you about a Great coupon that is out there... I myself printed and used 3 of them, you can only print 2. But every once in a while Kraft will re-set the coupons so you can re-print them.... Kraft has a save $5.00 off the purchase of 5 kraft cheese products... Sliced cheese, bagged cheese, block cheese, cream cheese... you name it..... This is a High value coupon, but don't use it till cheese goes on sale... When i used mine i had gotten 3 bags of shredded cheese for .63 each !!!!!!!!! So wait till you see a sale, then STOCK UP....

When i see there is a sale on cheese, i will let you know.

Coupon clipping 101

    * The Sunday newspaper is a great source of coupons. Buy the newspaper with the largest circulation in order to get the best coupons.
    * Ask your friends and family for coupons. If they get a newspaper but usually throw out the coupons then they’ll probably be happy to give them to you.
    * Search the Internet. There are many great online printable coupons to be found! You can find a list of Internet printable sites here!
    * Use a clipping service. If there is a great coupon that you would like to have multiples of then you might consider ordering the coupons from a clipping service like The Coupon Clippers.
    * Check the store. There are many varieties of coupons that you can find in the store.

Organize your coupons!

    * Envelopes. You can start by clipping and putting them all in an envelope or check file. But, once you’ve been couponing for a few weeks you will need something bigger.
    * File by insert. With this method you just file your inserts by date in a box and use an online coupon database to find the coupon you need. This method doesn’t require much work but you might miss out on unadvertised deals by not having all of your coupons with you at the store.
    * Coupon Binder. With this method you would clip all of your coupons and file them in baseball card holders in a three-ring binder. With this method you can carry your binder to the store and have all your coupons with you while you shop. You can see my coupon binder here! Know your store’s coupon policy!

    * Loyalty Cards. If your store offers a loyalty card then make sure to get one. Some stores only give the sale prices to card-holders. Loyalty cards are Free!
    * Double/Triple coupons. Double/triple coupons is when the store will take your 50¢ coupon and double it making it $1. This is done automatically at the register, you do not have to do anything to take part in this promotion. First, find out if your store doubles/triples coupons. If they do then find out the maximum double/triple value and how many they will double/triple.
    * Stacking coupons. Some stores will allow you to use one store coupon (the discount is provided by the store) and one manufacturer coupon (the discount is provided by the manufacturer) per item. Target, CVS, Walgreens and Rite-aid all put out Store coupons....
    * Internet coupons. Find out if your store accepts Internet coupons.
    * Competitor coupons. Some stores will accept competitors coupons.
    * Expired coupons. Some stores will accept expired coupons!

Make a plan!

    * Weekly Ads. Read the weekly store ads to see what is on sale and which stores have the best prices on the items you need. If you don’t get the weekly ads delivered you can usually view them on the store’s website.
    * Coupon Matchups. See if you can match coupons to the sale items to get an even better deal! Some websites do this for you.Once i get the swing of the blog, i will be updating Weekly..
    * Pricematch. Some stores, like Walmart, will pricematch. This means that if grapes are on sale for 99¢/lb at Ralphs, you can take the ad to Walmart and at checkout tell the cashier that you would like to pricematch the grapes. Show them the ad and they will sell you the grapes for 99¢/lb versus their higher price.
    * Make a List! Don’t go to the store without a list. Lists remind you what you came for and keep you from buying items you don’t need.
    * Rainchecks. If your store is out of the sale item, get a raincheck! Go to customer service and ask for a raincheck for the item you wanted. They will fill out a piece of paper with the item details and price. Then you can come back another day (usually no more than 30 days) and buy that item at the sale price by giving the cashier the raincheck. This also gives you more time to gather coupons for the item! You can still use a coupon if you are using a raincheck.

Don’t be fooled!

    * 10/$10 promotions. You do not have to buy 10 items to get the $1 price! The only exception to this rule is if the ad states that you must! Those times are rare and are usually for items that are buy x get y free, final price 2/$5, etc.
    * Rock-bottom prices. Don’t go out and use your coupon immediately! If you use that 25¢ off toilet paper right away when it’s not on sale you aren’t reaching your saving potential! Wait until toilet paper goes on sale for $1 then use the coupon. If your store triples coupons then you could get the toilet paper for only 25¢! Matching sales with coupons is getting a great price. Combining sales plus coupons plus another promotion (rebates, double coupons, store coupons) is getting the best price!
    * “One per Purchase.” I’ve heard this so many times! Most coupons say “one coupon per purchase” somewhere in the fine print. Cashiers will try to tell you that that means you can only use one coupon per transaction/day. This is NOT true! One per purchase means that you can only use one coupon per item purchased! So if you are buying 10 items and have 10 coupons then you can use them all!
    * Leave the kids at home! Shopping with kids will distract you and cause you to buy items not on your list.
    * Limits. Stores will sometimes put limits on the item to make you think it’s a great price! If cereal is just on sale 2/$4 you might not even notice it. But if it’s on sale 2/$4, limit 2! then you will likely think it’s a great price since they had to put a limit on it!
    * Shop early. If you have couponers in your area then it’s best to get to the store as early in the sale as you can!
    * “Bigger is better.” The cost per unit of the bigger box of cereal may be less than the smaller one but with coupons and sales the smaller box is likely a better deal.
    * Watch the cashier. When checking out pay close attention to the price screen to make sure everything rings up at the correct price. Also, make sure that the cashier scans all of your coupons. Coupons sometimes stick together or get dropped or the cashier will scan the coupon but not realize that it didn’t go through. Kindly point out that they missed one and they will correct it.
    * Check your receipt. BEFORE leaving the store look over your receipt to make sure everything rang up correctly and all of your coupons were scanned. If there is a problem take it to customer service immediately so they can fix it. If you leave the store and come back at another time then it might not be fixable. If the cashier missed a coupon and you notice right away it’s easy to see the mistake. But, if you come back later after several other coupons have been added to the cashier’s stack or the stack is gone then there is no way to prove that they missed a coupon.

Build your stockpile!

    * Start slowly. Don’t buy a ton of everything as soon as you get started or you will blow your budget! A stockpile takes time. Set aside a part of your weekly grocery money for stockpiling and do what you can with what you have.
    * Buy for the future. If an item goes on sale for a great price (or free!) then buy more than you need for just the week. Typically sales go in 12 week cycles so you only need to buy enough for 12 weeks. So, if you eat 1 box of cereal per week then when you find cereal at a rock-bottom price then you should buy 12 boxes. This way you have cheap cereal that will last you until you can buy it at a rock-bottom price again.
    * Know how much you use. Start paying attention to how many bottles of shampoo, packs of diapers, boxes of cereal, etc. you use. This will help you to have a better idea of how much you should buy and to not go overboard! If you only eat 1 box of cereal a month then there is really no need to buy more than a few boxes or they will just go to waste.
    * Donate it. Every couponer will eventually go overboard and buy too much of something. If there is no way you will use it before it expires then consider donating the item to a shelter or food pantry.

And there you go... Now get Clipping !!!
