So, you have some things you want to get rid of? Who doesn't right? I always have things I want to clear out of my house and getting rid of things is even better when it brings in a little extra cash. You're likely thinking that I'm going to say Ebay right? Nope. That costs money in shipping and it cost money to put it up on your site. I'm talking about UsedCanada.

What is UsedCanada?

UsedCanada is a site that allows Canadians to sell their good in their own city. That means no shipping. And it costs nothing to post your ads. Post as many as you like for one price - FREE. That's a good price for me! Each city has it's own site. This is way easier than Ebay and easier than any other site I've looked at to sell stuff on. Their traffic is getting higher and higher every single day, too, so that means that there are more people seeing your ads.

At the moment there is only one thing on there but that's because I recently cleared everything else out. If you're wondering what is so great about a store, think about it for a moment. Have you seen those links at the bottom of people's emails when they send them from Yahoo? Well, you can put a link like that at the bottom of your email, too. That way people know what you're selling and what you're getting rid of. And if they forward you're email to someone it will be attached! So all their friends will see it. And so on. If you have a Facebook page you can put a link on it and advertise your store. If you belong to a Mom's Group you can print out little business cards to hand out to everyone. Hell, keep a few in your purse to give to friends or when you hear that someone at work is looking for a such and such that you just happen to have in your store.

If you're really inspired you can watch for good deals at flea marts, garage sales, and marked down items in stores. These things will sell because lots of people don't have time to run around looking for the deals. If you do - turn it into a business.

Thousands of people make money - and sometimes a substantial amount of it - selling things on Ebay and you can make money with this, whether you turn it into a business or just get rid of some of the things that are cluttering up your home.

Save on GAS!

Who doesn't want to save money on gas? I know I do. Gas prices are astronomical and you gotta do what you can to get some savings somewhere. Well, Domo realizes that and they'll send you coupons in the mail!

From their site:

I haven't gotten mine yet but I'll let you know what happens. Hell, its savings. It's all good! Oh, and to put a little extra perk to it you can get free stuff anytime you fill up with $20 or more. Sometimes it's nothing more exciting than a bag of chips but sometimes is pretty cool stuff. Even if you don't want it you could always sell it right?

Coupons Have Never Been Easier

Some people hate the idea of using coupons. They are a pain to collect, cut out, carry around with you. Well, whatever reason you might have for avoiding coupons you can throw that out the window.

Save.ca is an online coupon book and you don't have to print them out either. Just select your province, enter, and a selection of coupons will come up before you. Click off the ones you want then click on "Get my coupons". You'll go to a screen where you should enter your mailing information. They say it will be sent out the next business day. I just sent for mine, so I'll see how long it takes to get them and let you know. Hell, they're coupons for things I'll likely buy anyway - if I get them in the next month I'll be thrilled!

Are you thinking about buying electronics or computers for someone in your family for Christmas? If you live in Winnipeg, Calgary, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, or Red Deer you should take a look at Computer Trends. They have great deals on computers, computer accessories, and other electronics. Take a look at the most recent flyer. How about a 1 gig flash drive for only $14.99? Or a headset with microphone for the computer for only $19.99?

They also have great door crasher specials almost every Saturday. If you're serious about saving money this year it can be worth the wait in line.

I've bought two computers at Computer Trends - a desktop and a laptop and both have been fabulous. One of the best things that I love about the place is that they aren't hardcore sales people. They find out what you need and want and they don't try to sell you a bunch of crap that you don't need. That in itself can save you a lot of money.

Grocery Store Tips

Grocery shopping is something we have to do. We have to eat. But damn it can cost a lot of money! Well, there are a few really easy things you can do to make your grocery shopping cost less. Some of them you've likely heard before but it doesn't hurt to hear them again.

Make a list! Having a list helps you to stay focused. Sure you might get a couple extra things but make a rule that for every two things you add to your cart that aren't on the list you have to take one thing off the list.
Eat before you go grocery shopping. You're much more likely to splurge on convenience items if you aren't hungry.
Bring a bottle of water with you. I don't know about you but I get so thirsty when I'm shopping I usually end up buying a bottle of Coke or something.
Don't go down the aisles that have things that aren't on your list. If you are trying to stay away from chips and snack items don't even bother going down that aisle. If house cleaning items aren't on your list today then why go down that aisle. Yes, you might find stuff on sale but if you don't need them you don't need to buy them.
Watch the flyers. Different things go on sale and sometimes they are items that you really do use all the time. THESE are the items that you should buy lots of because they are on sale. Peanut butter is a staple in our house so if it is on a really good sale we do buy several jars.
Avoid shopping with your children. They can kill a budget without even trying.
Buy more whole foods (things that grow in the ground or are fresh) than frozen food. Buy more frozen food than canned food. All of it has a time and a place but the bulk of your shopping should be in meat, produce, and fresh grains. Try to cut everything else down to less than 30-40%.
Shop less often. If you only shop a couple times a month you are less likely to buy splurge items.

If you're a Canadian and you've been looking for ways to save money or to cut your budget or even make a little money on the side you've likely been disappointed, as I have. The truth is that most thrifty blogs, frugal living sites, and such are American based. Great for Americans - not so great for Canadians. So, I've decided to start up my own little blog about saving money in Canada.

There are lots of ways that you can save money or make extra money but it can be difficult to find them and it can be even more difficult to find time to search for them. So, busy people often end up doing the most convenient thing, which is rarely money saving.

How Did I Get to This Point?

You might be wondering how I got to this point where saving money and making extra money has become so important in my life that I wanted to start a blog about it. Well, let me give you a little history.

I got married this past year. Everyone knows how expensive a wedding can be. So, we got a little loan - and really, not that big because we had a simple little wedding - and that got the ball rolling. Then I got a credit card, which got filled up faster than I ever thought it would. Then a cell phone for my daughter - which got lost a month later and is way to expensive to replace. Then we got the bill. She understood "all your text messaging is free" to mean EVERYTHING was free including Internet roaming. Hmmm. Huge phone bill later! What else? Well, a little loan here, a couple or more car repairs that had to go on a family members AMEX card, and it all adds up to more debt than I had planned on.

So, we've decided that things have got to change. And if we can make money on the side then we'd better do it! And that's what this blog is about.

Canadians Can Save Money How?

You'll be amazed at some of the ways that you can save money and not just on the things that are big. I know there are lots of places that will tell you about saving on your heating bill and stuff like that, but you might not see a lot of that here. I don't own a house. But if I come across something that is along that lines I'll be sure to include it.

Mostly I'm going to share with you things like:

and whatever else I can come up with.
