Mark your calendars! The Vectren Dayton Air Show will be held in just a few weeks on June 22 – 23, 2013 at the Dayton International Airport. This year’s show is featuring some great aeroacrobatic performances along with some historic fighter planes, too!  I love the sights and sounds as the planes fly across the viewing area.  There is truly nothing like it!

This year’s lineup has many fan favorites including Team AeroShell, Mike Goulian an Aerobatic performance,  Team Fastrax, MiG17, The Jet Time School Bus, The Great Wall of Fire and many more. You can find the entire performer list along with the show schedule to plan your day.

You will be keeping your eyes up to the skies. However, be sure to check out more than 100 Static Aircraft that will be displayed.  You can even step inside some of them to get a closer look. This is a great way to learn the history and importance that these planes have had for our country.  My boys love the Air Force Museum so I know this one will sure be a cool exhibit for them.

The Vectren Dayton Air Show is one of the few shows to feature an interactive display exhibit inspired by the new Disney movie, Planes.  It will feature all the characters from the movie along with a flying performance by Dusty.  You can grab a few tattoos, coloring sheets, stickers and more.

The Vecten Kids’ Hanger is the perfect spot for the younger kids to take a break from the heat.  This was a lifesaver for us since last year was extremely hot!  Some activities include:

• Giant Sandbox
• Face Painting
• Crafts
• Backyard Gym
• Possible Autograph Spot

Aerospace Adventure will be a must for all school-aged kids.  Here you will find hands-on activities, demonstrations along with experiments that are recommended for kids ages 6-16 years old.  The activites will be focused on aerospace and will include rocketry, flying simulators, experiments and more!

General Admission Tickets are $20 for Adults, $15 for Youth (6-11) and Seniors, Kids 5 and under are Free and can be purchased here. Welcome Living Dayton Viewers!  Today, we discussed a 5 quick tips to help you create and stick to your weekly meal plan.  This will not only help you to have a healthy nutritious meal for your family every night but help you save lots of money, too. If you missed the segment, you can watch it here.

1. Create a shopping list.  Use the grocery store sale ads to find the best deals on meat, produce and staple items.  Also, check out our weekly coupon match up for the best deals.  You can even download our free-grocery-shopping-list-printable-template-bw.

2. Create a 5 Day Meal Plan.  If you are just starting to meal plan, write down your top 30 dinners for your family.  Use this list to come up with five dinner ideas and plan a night for leftovers. To save on dining out, pick a restaurant where Kids Eat Free.

3. Download a mobile app.  If you are an android user, try the grocery savings app.  It will have the best deals and coupon match-ups to take the guess work out of couponing.  You can use apps or texting to download coupons to your cell phone such as the Cellfire, Kroger, or Meijer mPerks.

4. Stick to the Perimeter of the Store.  This will help you to stick to your list along with purchasing meat, produce and dairy products.  Keep your list and coupons handy for any deals that come along.  Pick the generic items or purchase family packs or bulk to save as well.

5. Keep Your Refrigerator and Pantry Organized.  This will help you to find your ingredients quickly for easy prepping in the morning for dinner. I love to start the crockpot after breakfast to have dinner ready before or after my boys sports.  My favorite meal is to make shredded chicken in the crockpot.  Just add a few chicken breasts as well as chicken broth and set in on low.  It will be ready in about 4 – 5 hours.

The kids will be out of school soon and you want to keep them from being bored and playing video games. Here are my top 10 favorite freebies and low cost activies that you can do in the Dayton area this summer for keeping the kids busy learning and staying cool this summer.

Sign the kids up for Kids Skate Free.  Right now, Skateworld of Kettering is the only local skating rink participating in this program.  Each child will receive 2 Free Skating Passes each week through email each Mondays.  This program is actually available all year long and we have been doing this for 2 years.

Go see a Movie.  During the summer, you take the kids to see a free movie through out the summer.  Last year, Rave Movie and the Danbury offered this program.  I will update as soon as they release the lineup this year.

Also, Rave Motion Pictures offeres $5 Discount Days where you can see a first run movie for only $5.  However, you can head to the Danbarry Dollar Saver on Bargain Tuesdays for $1.75 admission and can enjoy a 3D movie for only $2 more.

Sign up for the  Kids Bowl Free program.  Kids can bowl 2 Free Games every day this summer.  Just sign-up the kids and you will receive your passes each week on Sunday. There are several bowling centers participating in this program in the Dayton area.

Visit a Splash Pad to stay cool this summer.  There are several places to get wet and play in the fountains, get drenched with a water bucket and laugh the day away.

Spend the day at one of the Five River MetroParks.  ThesThey include 20 parks in the Dayton area which are perfect for to take the kids for the afternoon of exploring, hiking, fishing and more. Be sure to pack a lunch to make a day out of it.  Also, check out free programs that will be held all summer long.

Get a Membership at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery.  This is a great place to take the kids to learn Science in a fun environment. Admission for Adults is $12 Seniors $10, Kids ( 2-12)-$9 and Under 2 are Free. However,  Family Memberships start $85 and Military Memberships start at $75 and which also include free admission to the Sunwatch Indian Villiage, and Fort Ancient in Oregonia, OH.

Also, you will receive Free admission to the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and Science.  However, you can visit COSI in Columbus, Columbus Zoo and the Cincinnati Zoo for Half Price Admission.

They have a picnic tables and vending machines on site.  If you would like to get outdoors, be sure to visit one of my favorite metroparks, Wegerzyn Gardens.  They have some great free programs scheduled too.

Spend the day at the National Museum of the US Air Force. This is a great place to learn the history of aviation and the planes that have been used during all of the major wars. Be sure to check out all of the hands on activities in the Space Hall of Fame, especially trying to land the plane on the aircraft carrier.  Get your picture in a space suit and try your skills out as a traffic controller.

Right now, the  Air Force Museum is Free to all visitors.  You can pack a lunch and eat outside on picnic tables or upstairs in the cafe.  You can purchase food if you would like as well.

Learn Art History at the Dayton Art Institute.  The Dayton Art Institute is a gem near Downtown Dayton.  As you walk into the rotunda, you are amazed by its beauty and this place is a personal favorite of mine.  They have art from the American, African, Asian, Photography and so much more.  You can spend hours walking through the quiet halls looking at all the beautiful artwork.  You can even see Monet’s Waterlilies on display when you visit, which is my favorite.

They have the Experiencenter for the kids.  They can touch, play, and experience art in this space.

The museum is Free.  However, they do have suggested ticket prices for Adults-$8, Seniors and Students-$5, Kids under 17 are Free.  Special exhibits do have an admission fee and will include admission to the permanent collection.

Family Memberships start at $70 and include recipicol benefits to 15 other Ohio Art Museums along with 500 Nationwide.  It includes the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Columbus Museum of Art.

Summer is right around the corner!  The Kettering Recreation is offering discounts for the 2013 Adventure Reef Water Park Passes.  You can save $5 off an individual pass or $30 off a Family of 4 Pass.

Children’s Medical Center has a few free events this Saturday to teach kids the importance of bike safety along with giving away free properly fitted bike helmets.

This is a fun event to encourage the kids to wear helmets to help prevent head injuries from bike accidents.  My boys have been saved from a head injury or two from falling off their bikes.  Also, we wear ours while riding their Razor scooters, too!

Have you seen some of the latest flavors that Mike-Sell’s Snack Company at the grocery stores yet? They are now offering Sour Cream & Onion Kettled Cooked Chips, Bold Jamaican Jerk Kettled Cooked Chips and Cinnamon Toast Puffcorn Delights.

They sent me a few samples of them and I was not disappointed!  I had my youngest son help me taste test and review them with me.  However, I did have to pry the bags out of his hands because he did not want to share.

First, we tried the Sour Cream and Onion Kettled Cooked Chips.  I was really excited that they have have finally brought this one back and now as a kettle cooked chip.  I remember getting this flavor when I would visit my Dad at work.  It is very crunchy and still has the same great taste that I remember!  We ate the entire bag during the review of this one! ;)

Next, we tried the Bold Jamaican Jerk Kettled Cooked Chips.  If you love a spicy chip, then this one is for you.  You will first taste the sweetness and then a nice kick of spice almost immediately after putting the chip in your mouth.  This one is not for the faint of heart and has a Caribbean flair to it.  My 8-year old gave this one 2 thumbs up!  I am not much of a spicy chip eater but I liked the flavor. I had to have a glass of water to chase these down.

How many of you love Puffcorn Delights? I seriously will eat an entire bag at one sitting and seriously cannot be trusted with just a handful  Well, if you are like me then you are in for a treat! The Cinnamon Toast Puffcorn Delights are the perfect combination of sweet buttered cinnamon flavor.  They will melt in your mouth!  We had our bag gone within a few minutes  We kept taking turns eating a handful until the bag was gone!  You must try these for sure and I am warning you that they highly addicting!
