Some Of My Best Target Tips!

I go to my local Target so often, the cashiers recognize me! One time, I had taken a break from Target (for about a week or so) and when I went back in, one of the cashiers said "I haven't seen you in awhile." When a cashier says that, you know you are at Target too much! Here are some of my Target money-saving tips!

Tip #1: If you go to Target on the following days, you are more likely to find the great clearance deals before anyone else!

MONDAY- kids clothes, electonics
TUESDAY- women's clothes, domestics
WEDNESDAY- men's clothes, toys, health and beauty
THURSDAY- lingerie, shoes, housewares, sporting goods
FRIDAY- cosmetics, hardware, auto, jewelry

Target Holiday Clearance:
50% off day after holiday for three days
75% off fourth day after holiday for three days
90% off seventh day after holiday for 1-2 days

Tip #2: Match manufacturer coupons + Target coupons + sale= really cheap (or free!) stuff!

Sometimes you get just the right combination of manufacturer coupon, Target coupon and sale. For example, if Lysol was on sale for $2 and you had a 50 cent manufacturer coupon and a $1 Target coupon, you would get the Lysol for 50 cents! Check the Target web site regularly for printable coupons

Tip #3: Think outside the box

At first, stocking up on holiday clearance may seem like a waste of money. For example, items at holiday time, packaged in red and green, seem too "Christmasy" for another time of year. But you have to think outside of the box! Last year, I found cute metal beverage tubs with the Christmas clearance. Perfect for summer parties!

Tip. #4: Target hop

Sometimes my favorite local Target does not have any good clearance. Instead of waiting, I check out other local Targets. You'd be amazed at how different clearance can vary from one store to another! For example, I found a pair of cleats for my son at one Target for $4.98 (a steal of a price!). I checked another local Target and they didn't have any cleats on sale. Also, when I am in other cities, I try and visit those Targets and see what they have.

Tip #5: If something goes on sale...

Sometimes (rarely!) I buy something full price at Target. If it goes on sale within 14 days after that, I get the difference back! I've gotten back $10 off a video game, $8 back from storage containers and more.

If you have tons of baby clothes, toys and more that you no longer need, you have to keep reading! Many PTA’s around the country sponsor “resale” events, where for a fee, you can rent a table and sell your items.

I just finished up my third resale event. I’ve learned a lot on how to offer customers the best value and to make the most money!

Tip 1: Gather everything you want to sell

Here are some items that sell well at resale events:

- baby and children’s clothing
- brand new items
- toys (new or barely used)
- diapers
- wooden blocks
- Geo Trax (very popular)
- Little Tikes toys
- Outdoor play equipment
- Car seats
- Strollers
- Books

Items that don’t sell very well (or at all):

- stained or torn clothing
- toys with missing or broken parts
- stuffed animals
- fast food toys

Tip 2: Price competitively

You’ll want to price your items so you make a profit and still offer a great deal. Typically, here is how I price items:

Baby clothing: $1 each

Children's clothing: $1-2 each, coats: $5 each, nice outfits $5 each

Brand new items: Depending on what it is, I take about 50% off what I paid

Toys: I charge more for new, in package toys. Used toys I charge less.

Diapers: $4 per bag

Little Tikes: Because Little Tikes is so expensive brand new, people are willing to pay a little more. So if your item was originally $150, try to get at least $50 for it.

Outdoor play equipment: Another popular category, price about 30-50% less than what you paid.

Car seats: You probably won’t get close to what you paid originally. Also, the car seat should be in perfect condition, never in an accident, etc.

Strollers: Depending on condition, 30-50% off what you paid.

Books: Typically, 50 cents- $1 per book

Tip 3: Clean everything and price everything

It’s important to have great presentation when it comes to selling items. For example, I was all clothing and put into Ziploc bags, with the size and price on the outside of the bag. Toys are cleaned (baby wipes are great for this). Having great presentation at your table is essential for making sales.

Tip 4: Stuff to bring to the sale

- tape
- black marker
- pens
- change ($20-$30 in ones, $10 in quarters, some 5’s and 10’s)
- snacks and drinks
- a helper, to help sell and run the table, if you need to step out for a moment
- A smile and a helpful attitude. Typically people who are coming to the sale are looking for specific items
- Plastic bags to bag up their purchases
- Box to keep money in

Tip 5: Have fun!

Resale events are great for not only getting rid of clutter and making money, but meeting new people! Have fun with your sale!

Monday Update

On Saturday, my husband and I went to see "Date Night" movie. It was really funny! We got a deal on movie tickets too. I had a buy 1, get 1 Fandango code from Tropicana Rewards. We also got a deal on popcorn. The Entertainment book had a coupon for a free small popcorn, when you purchase a large drink. The drink was $5 and we upgraded the popcorn to a medium for only $1 more. So overall, a $14 date night!

Then on Mother's Day, I had a nice day with my family, my son was in our church's Mother's Day program, went to Costco (which was super busy and had tons of sample tables!) and had a nice meal at home.
