An Activity with the Kids

Hi,

After a long break I'm back to the Blog world. I feel so excited to share some of the art works done by the children during our get together. They were aged between 3 and 13. We painted and decorated a picture frame from the card boards. For the picture we did a Rangoli pattern. We also did some origami. My son taught us how to make a ninja stat and a puppy. my daughter taught us how to make a bow. You can see them in some of the frames. Everybody were very creative. It was super fun and it was a great experience for me. Here is the treat for you as well.

CHILDHOOD GAMES OF TAMILNADU

Hi Friends

It has been a long time since my previous post. Today I thought I will post some of the games played by us in our childhood. It may bring back some people's memories, or even help some parents to teach their children to play(like me). My friends have helped me to list them and gave me the rules on how to play them. I must say a big THANK YOU to all of them. I have listed some of them here. I'm not sure if they are played in other parts of India as well , with similar rules.

Bambaram:

For Bambaram everyone should have one Bambaram each and we keep a flat wood inside a circle. Then with the Bambaram you need to make a hole in the wood. if you miss to do that you need to put the Bambaram inside the circle. Then everyone will hit your Bambaram with their sharp nail edged Bambaram.

It is played with two pieces of Wood one big and one small one. Using the big stick you need to hit the small stick as long as you can. That position is marked. So each and every player in the group should do that. All their positions are marked. The person who hit the least position will be the looser. he need to go to the longest distance which is marked and the person must throw the small stick targeting the big stick which is placed where they did hitting. If you failed the person will start to hit from where your small stick landed. It will keep on going until you hit the big stick. For example if we play as a group of 4 you have to touch all the three. Actually once you throw your small stick it will land in a place. The first person come with the big stick and once he touches the small stick your time starts and you can run and touch others before he hits the small stick. if you touch them before he hits the small stick the person is out or else you need to throw the small stick where it landed in the recent hit. you have to do it until you touch them before hit or you need to beat them by throwing exactly your small stick against the big stick. A bit confusing rules as I have never played it.

Dimensional Embroidery - 4 Update

Hi Friends,

Here is the update of the dimensional embroidery. I managed to stitch only the stem for this week.

For stem I used the Twisted Chain stitch.

Dimensional Ebroidery - 4

Hi Friends,
Today i have completed the second flower. for this flower I had put some extra added effort by maintaining the color. Actually I used a double colored thread for doing this flower. The base of the flower I stitched with the Dark red color part of the thread. The detached chain part I had stitched with the lighter coloured part of the thread.

Here I have embroidered only the Base of the flower.

Dimensional Embroidery - 4

Hi Friends,
This is my next Dimensional embroidery. This is the same design as we did for the summer Classes (for Children). You can see them here. All the Children enjoyed it thoroughly. I had a copy of the traced design. so I thought I will make it a dimensional embroidered one.

This is the design. I filled the flower with Chain Stitch. I was able to do one flower for this complete week.

Then did one row of detached button hole stitch around the edges. I used a double coloured thread and didn't plan too much. So the flower got messed up with colours.

Quilling

This is another experiment on Quilling. I was very much fascinated by the words KEEP CALM. So just tried quilling them and displayed it in my Living room where I can see it frequently through out the day.

Key Hanger :)

Hi Friends
Happy New Year to All of You.
Here I would like to share a Key hanger. Long back my brother presented me a piece of wood.

I was wondering what to do with it. It was lying in my stash for years. Recently, I got some hooks from the local pound shop.

The Key Hanger is ready. Just pierced the hooks on the Wood. Not so perfect but ok.

Here is a closeup of the hooks.

Now the Key Hanger is ready for painting. I will post the picture after painting.

Embroidery Class

Hi Friends,
It has been long since I had posted on my blog. Though I was busy with something or the other, I had done a little bit of Embroidery. I will share them in the later posts.
Now it is the summer holidays for the kids. I didn't go to India this time. So I planned for the Embroidery class. The plan is a very simple design with chain stitch, stem stitch, satin stitch, hemming and tacking. And it worked out well.

Here are the pictures of the budding embroiderers.

There are some more to come. The age group of the children are 6 to 9 yrs. And for their age the work that they have done is awesome. I have found that boys are equally interested. All of us really enjoyed the lessons.

Flower Basket - 1

Hi Friends,
This basket has only flowers made of Whipped Wheel Stitch, Herringbone Stitch and satin stitch.

The flowers are stitched with the cone thread. But the basket is stitched with brown wool, using the satin stitch ans bullion knots.

Here is the full picture of the basket. sorry for the poor picture quality. But, will try to update with a better one soon.

A Boat House - Chevron Stitch

Hi Friends,
I have stitched a Boat House with only Chevron stitch.

I used Anchor threads for the entire pattern, except for the boat. the Boat is stitched with black woolen thread.

Completed Lotus- TAST Week 14 Stem stitch

Hi Friends,
Here is the picture of the completed Lotus. This Lotus I started for the TAST week 14 (stem Stitch). it took so long for me to complete. Its better to be late than never.
This Lotus and the Leaves are stitched only using the stem stitch. First I stitched with only pink colour for the flower.It was so plain. So I added the purple outline, now it looks a little better.

Embroidered Egg

Hi Friends,
This is a some embroidery I did recently, It was on the certificate which my son got for participating in the Easter Egg competition. While organizing them, I got a spark of embroidering it, soon I traced the design and did it.
I have done the entire design with metallic threads. It is stitched with stem stitch and satin stitch.

TAST Week 14 -Satin Stitch

Hi Friends,
I have been away from blogging for sometime. I know I have disappointed many of my friends, during the past weeks, I'm really sorry for that. But sure I'll catch up the TAST which I have missed.
This week when I opened Pintangle, I saw it was Satin Stitch, its one of my favorite stitches. Then I took out My TAST sampler and drew a Butterfly, and started stitching. Here is my Butterfly,

I used Multi coloured Machine Embroidery thread. Butterfly half stitched.

The Butterfly has turned out to be more colourful.

TAST Week 8 -Chain Stitch

Hi Friends,
I was busy with my work for the last two weeks, so was not able to post anyting. Now I'm going to post for this weeks challenge, Chain Stitch for Sharon's TAST . I have used Chain Stitch as a filling stitch. I enjoyed doing this stitch. In this Motif also I have used only Chain Stitch.

For the stem I have stitched the chain stitch,

and in each chain I have done two rows of detached chain and it looks different.

The Leaves are also filled with chain stitch.

Pattu Pavadai - 3

Hi Friends,
This is the latest pattu pavadi that I made for my daughter. I got it stitched from the tailor and did the Embroidey part of it.
The plain Skirt and Blouse.

The close up of the neck design. Here I have used Golden and Green metallic threads. And Used white stones for the Border so that it gives a grand look especially in the evening functions. Again I added the Muvvala kuttu to the border, to make it more rich.

This Paisley motif I traced it from the skirt, and then embroidered.

I don't know whether we can call it as Gold work. though it is stitched with metallic threads.
