Parisian Bridal Shower/Birthday Theme

This inspiration board was created in the name of amour and Paris. Nothing says amour like France, likewise, nothing says Paris more than the Eiffel Tower, non?

If you are a bride-to-be, or know a bride-to-be, and are smitten with all things French, this theme might be perfect, especially if time has been spent in Paris, or if Paris is the honeymoon destination.

The theme is feminine, sweet, and tres chic!

Start off with the invitations, which this bridal shower invite was found on Wedding Paper Divas. This invite might not have French connotations, but it displays frilly feminine elements that do look French. If you are planning more of a brunch/dinner type shower, this style is perfect to share the idea a semi-formal event will be celebrated with a sit-down meal.

When it comes to favors, it is not hard to find cute soaps, stationary, and always the sweets with French accents! I stumbled upon a set of "fine champagne truffles", pictured above, which look divine. And the macaroons? They are macaroon candles! Many French themed gifts, favors and stationary are in abundance on the interwebs, search on google.com to start, and see what's out there. The soaps pictured above come from domesticbliss.com, likewise the stationary was discovered there.

Serve up some pink champagne to your guests, they will swoon! Something about champagne flutes filled with pink bubbly brings smiles to all. You could also serve up champagne cocktails to your guests, that might have a splash of pomegranate liqueur, or some raspberries to pinken the golden bubbly. Click on the link above for possible recipe choices.

Planning the menu can take time. Serve up savory dishes like quiche or mini quiches. Fondue is a great treat to serve guests, cut up bread cubes and apple slices for dipping. French onion soup works well. Or you could offer mini croissant sandwiches, warmed or cold. If you want to have the shower catered, many caterers can offer you advice on deciding between simple sandwiches and salads, or complicated entrees. Fruit and cheese platters are easy to come by, and can be a great appetizer or an accompaniment to the meal served. And nothing says French dessert like chocolate! Ooh, the options are abundant!

Dress the part of guest of honor or hostess with the mostess in cute little numbers like the one pictured above, which was found on ModCloth.com. Pair the sweet Bestsey Johnson shoes to tie up the "Frenchie" ensemble.

Create an ambiance with sweet music with French twists. Decorate with simple vases filled with soft pink roses, and candles about the room. Keep the decor simple, and let the unique favors and other touches speak the theme. Or deck the halls and walls with beautiful scenes of Paris, or even snapshots of the time spent in France.

May your shower make everyone say "oh la la", and be "tres magnifique", especially for the bride-to-be, whom will sing "merci beaucoup" throughout the entire shower!

"Sweet" DIY Favor Idea

A great DIY favor, that is sweet and savory, are candy coated pretzel sticks/rods. These are so delicious, they have the crunch of the pretzel, the savor from the salt, and the yummy goodness from the melted candy or chocolate. What makes them cute are the touches of candied sprinkles or edible glitter, and adding colorful ribbon to tie the treats together!

These treats are perfect for wedding or shower favors, they are easy to put together, and are easy to make an elegant and fun splash to your event.

Here's what you need, tweak where desired depending upon number of guests.

1 bag of pretzel rods
1/2 lb bag of Wilton candy melts (vanilla or chocolate)
Wilton nonpareil sprinkles-edible glitter-cupcake sprinkles, etc.
parchment paper
cookie sheet/jelly roll pan
pretzel rod treat bags and ties
curling ribbon or personalized ribbon
Optional:
candy coloring
vegetable oil

First thing, place some parchment paper onto a hard surface, such as a cookie sheet. Using the cookie sheet will enable you to place the pretzels into the freezer/fridge to aid in the hardening of the melted candy. Plus, the sheet will be helpful when sprinkling the sticks, letting the sprinkles fall where they may on the sheet, and not all over your table or counter.

Next, start by melting the chocolate. You can do this simply by boiling water in a pan. Once water is boiling, sit a sturdy glass bowl over the pan, (be sure water does not touch the bowl!), add in the candy/chocolate wafers, and stir with whisk until melted and smooth. If you want to color your candy, now is when to delicately add in a few drops of food coloring-a little bit goes a long way, start with small drops and gradually add one by one until your desired color.

If chocolate isn't smooth and somewhat thin, it is OK to add vegetable oil a little bit at a time, it helps to thin out the possible thick chocolate, and does not interfere with the flavor. Adding the oil also leaves a nice sheen, and doesn't taste oily, unless you add too much, so be cautious in adding small amounts at a time till desired consistency. You don't want it super runny, but you don't want a thick goopy mess. You want enough to coat the pretzel, where you can't see the pretzel through the melted candy layer.

What I did, as my bowl wasn't deep, and the pretzel rods were a bit long, I spooned the melted candy over the pretzels, completely and evenly covered the stick, leaving about 1-2 inches at the base of the stick for the guests to hold onto free of melted candy/chocolate. Tap the stick gently on the edge of the bowl to shake off any access candy/chocolate to drip back into the bowl.

Then, before placing the sticks onto the parchment lined cookie sheets, I sprinkled the sticks with nonpareils, evenly covering the melted candy. Roll the stick in your finger tips, so evenly cover the stick. Once evenly coated with sprinkles, place onto the cookie sheet. The best part about the parchment paper, the sticks should not stick to the paper, and you might have a flat surface on one side, but when candy has hardened, sticks should easily separate from the paper with no pulling.

Repeat, and place the pretzel sticks next to each other, but leave a bit of room so each candy covered pretzel breathes, and hardens individually. To speed up the process of hardening candy, I placed the cookie sheet(s) into the fridge.

When I pulled the sheets out of the fridge, I pulled the pretzels up off the parchment, and if any melted candy had spread, like angel wings, it was easy to tap away any access hardened chocolate wings with my finger tips, which then revealed a perfect candy coated pretzel stick.

Last phase is to grab your pretzel favor bags, turn them upside down, take your candy coated pretzel stick and drop into bag, leaving exposed side up, at the opening of the bag. At this point, pinch the bag where the pretzel ends, and tie with favor tie. If you plan to attach ribbon, lightly tie the ties, as they help to bind the bag together, so that when you tie the ribbon over the ties, you can simply remove them once the bags are secure with your ribbon. I mention this, as this is great if you don't have extra hands. Tying the bags with favor ties can be done with ease, but tying ribbons can be difficult if tying without a support, so this little trick alleviates the fuss. I learned this by tying ribbon onto an bag without support, and found it quite frustrating. You know, you do this, holding bag with one hand, attempting to tie with the other, the bag slips through the trial, and ribbon is vastly uneven.

Et voila, you have your fancy candy coated pretzel sticks, and will be loved by your guests. As always, quality control, and you will see you will love these too! They are yummy and delectable, and will add a sweet and classy touch, your guests might not know these were done homemade, but maybe by a candy company!

As pictured above, I created these treats for the holidays, and they were a hit! As family can often be biased, when I added these to their gifts, they honestly had no idea I had created the candy coated sticks! Such a great and simple way to add a homemade touch to any event, be it for a bridal shower, wedding, birthday, any event! You can personalize to your color theme, with your name or date of event, any way you want!

Sweet Kids Christmas Party ideas

I love being inspired by such creative individuals, such as the creator of the ideas seen here below, Chris Nease, designer and writer for www.celebrationsathomeblog.com. For this party, I really love the use of the kids aprons starting out as chair decor, tying the table scape together.

This same scene can be recreated on any budget, these ideas are meant to inspire you for your child's Christmas party, or even at the "kids table" Christmas day! Take the thought and run with it! I saw cute holiday straws at Hobby Lobby with the cutest holiday cups, perfect for milk and cookies, or hot coacoa and fudge.

Kids Candy Coated Christmas Party

Are you ready for some inspiration for a kids Christmas party? If you're like me, the kids will be out of school for the next week leading up to Christmas and you'll need something to entertain them, right? This may just inspire you - I hosted a small gathering for my kids and a couple of friends. We called it a "Candy Coated Party" because it was all about sweet decor, and decorating their own "Christmas Trees" (ice cream cones), and cupcakes.

Each child had a place set with personalized aprons, "snowman" milk bottles, and candy cane napkin rings with a decorated cookie on a stick. They had their own dish of icing to cover the cones and cupcakes, and plenty of candy toppings to add on top. White cotton candy was the perfect "snow", while powdered donut holes were the perfect "snow balls."

The centerpiece was a trio of trees I made by hot gluing candy to white foam cones. Adding ribbons to the top, and cotton candy for a snow-covered base finished it off perfectly. Candy bouquets were made by filling a vase with foam to securely hold candy canes, lollipops, and cookies on a stick.

After the kids decorated their food items, they played outside in the (barely there) snow. Hot chocolate was waiting to warm them up, with a snowman Peep on the side. This is the time they were able to write their letters to Santa using the adorable free printables from The Two Savvy Sisters.
There were plenty of treats to take home in their 'take-out' boxes, as well as the personalized aprons. They all had a great time, and needless to say my kids didn't have an appetite for dinner that night!

Fun Christmas Party Games for Your Child’s Party

We’ve made our list and checked it twice! Here are our favorite Christmas party games for all the good little boys and girls coming to your home this holiday season. Keep them busy while providing fun entertainment for everyone with these creative party games. In the spirit of the holidays, give out prizes for the winners and gifts to all those who participate

10. The Amazing Holiday Maze – Here is a great way to get your child’s party started. Purchase a ball of string or yarn for each child who will be attending the party, and tie a small prize to the end of each one. Hide the prize somewhere, and then unwind the ball of yarn completely around the room, passing it behind furniture, under table legs, and around banisters as needed. Tie a pencil to the remaining end of the string. Repeat this process for each ball of yarn that you have, crossing the strings amongst one another. When the children arrive, hand each one of them a pencil (with the string attached), and let them know that, at the other end of the string, there is a prize. They should wind the string around their pencil until it leads them to the end.

9. Mystery Stocking – Fill a stocking or sock with a collection of “mystery items,” then pass the stocking around the circle, letting each child guess what is inside. They may shake the stocking, smell it, or simply feel the shape of what is inside. We suggest filling the stocking with simple party favors that the children can keep (if they guess correctly). Consider including crayons or sidewalk chalk, wind-up toys, a toy car, small stuffed animals, a ball and jacks, or a pack of cards.

8. Holiday ABC’s – Give each child a piece of paper with the alphabet written vertically from A to Z. They must come up with a holiday word that somehow relates to each letter. You may want to set the children up to work in teams if it is too difficult for them to work individually. The first team to complete their list wins a prize. Some of the words they come up with may seem like a bit of a stretch, but that just adds to the fun.

7. Do You See What I See? – Have two children sit in front of the group, back to back. Give one child a holiday object (like an ornament), and give the other child a piece of paper and something to draw with. The child with the object cannot say what the object is, but he or she must describe the object so that his or her partner can attempt to draw it. The quality of the final picture obviously depends on how well it was (or was not) described. An alternate version of this game would be to give the two children two trays with the same objects. The goal would then be for the players to identically arrange their trays without looking at the other person’s tray or naming any of the objects.

6. Santa Doesn’t Say – Purchase enough Santa hats for all of the children at your party. Before they arrive, pin the name of a holiday character to the top of each one. Put a hat on each child’s head—without letting them see the name on the hat. Have the children move throughout the room, talking to one another, and asking questions to try to guess their identity. The first person to guess who he or she is wins the game.

5. Santa in Style – For this game, you will need several rolls of streamers in red, white, and black, a bag of cotton balls, and some masking tape. Divide the children into teams of 3 or 4 kids per team. Each team will choose one person to be Santa and use their given materials to create Santa’s costume. Do not supply the teams with scissors—it’s more fun to see how they make do without them. Let the Santas walk down the runway of your living room, and judge which one looks the best. An alternate version of this game would be to give each team a bag of items (suitable for either Santa or Frosty) and race to dress one member of their team.

4. Name that Holiday Tune – It’s the classic game with a holiday twist. Play a few notes of a Christmas song, and let the children guess the name of the tune. If you want to up the ante, you can ask them to guess the name of the artist as well. It’s best to find old versions of the classics, so the answers are not so obvious. After all, how many 10 year olds do you know who have heard of Bing Crosby?

3. Limbo with a Belly – This is one game where everyone really does enjoy being “in limbo.” Put a holiday twist on an old favorite by using a set of Christmas lights or a strand of garland instead of a limbo stick. Add a “Santa stomach” to each child for a little extra challenge. Then play some Christmas music. You just need a couple of large shirts, some pillows, and maybe a belt. The kid’s bellies will be shaking like a bowl full of jelly as they laugh in limbo!

2. Twelve Days of Christmas Relay – Everyone loves a relay race—especially when it centers on Christmas. Gather a collection of items to represent those named in the “Twelve Days of Christmas.” You can find pictures on the Internet and recycled Christmas cards, or grab some items from around the house (i.e. a plastic bird to represent the partridge). Just make sure that the kids all understand which lyric matches each item (and label them if necessary). Divide the children up into two teams (you’ll need a complete set of items for each team). Give each team an empty bucket, and place two buckets with the items at the other end of the room. At the word “go,” the race will begin, with each team gathering the items in the order of the lyrics—the first child grabs the partridge in the pear tree and brings it back to the team, the second child collects two turtle doves, and the game continues from there. The winning team is the first to collect all twelve items inside their bucket.

1. Gift Unwrap Relay – For this game, you will need several empty boxes and plenty of time to wrap the gift beforehand. Place a variety of holiday treats inside one box (enough for all of the children at the party) and wrap the box. Place the wrapped box inside a bigger box and wrap that one. Continue wrapping the box, layer upon layer, for as long as you can stand it. When the children arrive, have them sit in a circle. Play holiday music, intermittently stopping it and letting the child holding the gift unwrap a single layer at a time, until all of the layers are unwrapped and the treats are handed out. If you are short on boxes, you can wrap one box in several layers of paper. Also, you may want to consider having the children unwrap the boxes with mittens on their hands for an added extra challenge!

Serve up cosmos with cherries, cupcakes with a cherry on top, chocolate covered cherries, etc. Serve up Coca-Cola in bottles and have "Grease" tunes playing in the background to enhance the ambiance.

How to Plan an Office Holiday Party

Annually offices celebrate the holidays by having a party. These kinds of parties boost employees' spirits and allow them to enjoy the company of their colleagues and share the holidays with them.

Most office parties happen in the workplace and usually start just after office hours. Some will last for at least 4 hours and will have presentations, games, raffles, and some kind of awarding ceremony for noteworthy employees.

Planner's To-Do

If you were given the task to plan the party, then you need at least a month to plan and prepare for the party. Take note of these things you need to take care of for the party.

Set the date. The first thing you need to decide is when the party will take place. Everything else will be planned around this date.
Decide on the venue. We know that you'll probably have it in the office. The question is where? At the workplace or at one of the company's meeting rooms?
Send save-the-date notice. As soon as you know the date and place to hold the party, then it's time to send save-the-dates cards to your officemates. It's a busy time of the year for everyone that is why it's important that you send the notice as early as possible.
Reserve with your suppliers. You need to make sure suppliers for your party are available to do the task you need them to do, on the date of the event. Since it's the holiday season, most suppliers will have their hands full with orders like yours.

This is an important time for you as the planner. The details of the party needs to be ironed out and you need ample time to finalize with your suppliers and to prepare. Ask another colleague to help you plan.

Food – ensure that the supply of food and beverage for the duration of the event is enough. Plan for a wide variety of food to accommodate special dietary needs.

Decorations – take time in planning for the office holiday party decorations. Since you're holding it in the office, making it festive is going to take a bit more effort. Aside from the usual Christmas decor, you can also think of a themed party to make the venue look less like an office and more like a party place.

Program – all office parties have a program with which the party revolves around. So a well-prepared program will tell you if the party is good or bad. Your party should have fun games, entertainment, and good music.

So if you’re like us and are looking for games that are decidedly fresh and fun, we’ve put together some seriously unstuffy options for you to choose from. Here are the Top 20 Best Baby Shower Games—from Beau-coup to you!

1. Don't Say Baby

Mum’s the word when it comes to saying ‘baby’! Get this great icebreaker started the moment your guests walk through the door. As you greet each guest, give each a diaper pin to wear on his or her shirt. Once all of your guests have arrived, tell everyone that they can’t say ‘baby’ for the duration of the shower (or until it’s time to open presents). If anyone hears someone else saying the forbidden word, he or she can steal the rule breaker’s pin. At the end of the game, the person with the most pins wins a gift.

2. Guess the Baby Game

Pink cheeks and rosy memories abound when you play this game at your baby shower. You’ll need to set the wheels in motion as you send out invitations to the shower. With each invite, include a note instructing guests to bring along a picture of themselves as babies. As each guest arrives, assign a number to each picture and post it up on the wall. Have each guest guess which picture corresponds to each guest. After everyone is finished cooing over the photos, give a prize to the person with the most matches that matched up!

3. Baby Items in the Bag

Keep guests guessing with this practical game. Put at least ten common, useful baby items inside a diaper bag; a bib, teething ring, rattle, bottle and diaper are just a few goodies that are also fairly inexpensive. Give each guest a pen and paper before passing the diaper bag around. Without looking, each person should stick a hand inside the bag and identify as many items as possible. Give each two minutes to feel around and make their guesses before moving the bag to the next person. Once everyone has had a turn, find out who had the most correct answers. The winner gets a prize and the parents-to-be get the diaper bag filled with baby essentials!

4. Mommy and Daddy’s Secrets

If you’re looking for a fun, yet touching, baby shower game for your coed baby shower, you’re in luck (though you can always adjust the game to fit a shower just for the girls). Ask the mom and dad for answers to twenty questions—make sure to do this with the significant other nowhere in sight! Some great questions include, “Where were you when you heard the news?” “Do you want a girl or boy?” and “If you could have your way, what would you want your child to be when he or she grows up?” After you quiz each and record their answers, bring both into the room and put the future parents on the hot spot one at a time. Ask each to guess the answer their partner gave to each question—before polling the audience to see who thinks the answer is correct. Everyone’s a winner with this lively game!

5. Baby Sketch Artists

Who knew paper plates could be this much fun? Pass out sturdy paper plates and markers to all of your guests. Let them know they’ll be drawing a picture of the baby, and the best sketch will win. The catch is that everyone has to draw with the paper plate on her or his head! It’s a hilarious sight—and the finished drawings are guaranteed to have everyone in stitches.

6. Dirty Diapers

An icky dirty diaper is no one’s friend—but what if the gooey center is actually candy? Funnily enough, it’s still gross with this nutty baby shower game! Place several types of melted chocolate candies in newborn-sized diapers (or folded napkins). Make sure you have many types and consistencies represented: milky, creamy, nutty, caramel-filled, and the like. Pass the diapers around and have each person sniff and lick the gooey ‘poo’ centers in order to guess which brand of candy bar is in each diaper. The person with the best nose for chocolatey-tasting ‘number two’, wins!

7. Guess the Baby Food

If you’ve ever thought that baby food in jars looks less like the ‘peas’ or ‘carrots’ they purport to be and more like miscellaneous mush, this is the game for you. Gather seven to ten unique flavors of baby food jars, number each lid and tear off the labels. Ask each guest to grab a spoon and start sampling! The guest with the keenest taste buds wins a prize for getting the most correct.

8. Guess the Mother's Measurements

Pregnancy is perhaps the only time in life that it’s socially acceptable to go up to a woman, rub her belly and comment on the expanding size of her waistline. So why not have fun with it? Pass around a ball of yarn and a pair of scissors. Tell each guest to cut off a length of string that they think corresponds to the size of the honoree’s belly (make sure no one is cheating by measuring their own or a friend’s waist!). When everyone has a piece of string, invite each person up to try his or her luck measuring the mom-to-be’s belly. Whoever has a string that comes closest to being a perfect measurement, wins.

9. Drink Up, Baby!

Whether you’re planning a daring couple’s shower or a tame for-all-ages party, this game is always a hilarious hit. Fill baby bottles with the beverage of your choice—beer for the guys at a grown-ups’ party and apple juice for the kids at a family baby shower. Then, give everyone a bottle and on the count of three they must suck the bottles dry as quickly as possible. The first person to down the contents of his or her bottle wins.

10. Diaper Derby

On your mark, get set, go! Divide your guests into teams and hand each team a roll of toilet paper. Give the teams five minutes to wrap a team member up in a mock diaper. The team with the most creatively diapered ‘baby’ wins. There’s something so outrageously funny about grown adults in hastily assembled toilet paper diapers—your guests won’t be able to stop laughing!

This suggestive game is the hands-down favorite among males at coed baby showers. Set up a row of large buckets of water and drop some baby bottle nipples into each. Each guest must get down on his or her knees—hands behind backs—and bob for as many nipples as they can grab in two minutes. When the buzzer goes off, the person with the most nipples wins.

12. Birthing Babies

You’ll have a roomful of amusingly anxious faux parents-to-be with this ‘ice melter’ game. The night before your shower, freeze a bunch of ice cubes with tiny plastic babies in the center (available at any craft store). When guests arrive, drop an ice cube into a cup of water and present to each person. As time ticks by, the ice begins to melt and the baby is closer and closer to its due date! Whoever has a baby first, wins. Or, change it up by asking people to correctly guess how long it will take for their baby to be born.

13. Baby Price is Right

Bob Barker isn’t the only one who can set the stage for big wins! Buy 10 to 12 baby items you think the parents-to-be will need. Use blank note cards to write the price of each item on one side, and the item itself on the other. Gather guests together and play it just like the TV show: each guest must guess the price of the items on the cards, and the person with the highest total—without going over—wins. Best of all, the parents-to-be get to keep the handy baby items used for the game.

14. Place The Baby On The Mommy

Pin the Tail on the Donkey has nothing on this screwball take on the classic party game. Blow up a poster-sized picture of the mom-to-be standing with her pregnant belly in profile. Blindfold each guest and give him or her a cutout picture of a baby. After a couple of spins, each guest must walk to the wall and pin the baby on the mommy. Whoever gets it closest to the tummy, wins.

15. Sloppy Diaper Relay

Ah, if only diapering were a team sport. Olympic trials, here you come! Set up several diapering stations complete with dolls swaddled in diapers. Break guests up into teams, hand out a blindfold to each and set your timer. When you give the word, teams must take turns taking the current diaper off the doll and placing a new one on as fast as possible—all while blindfolded! The first team to complete the diapering challenge wins the gold.

16. Feed The Baby

Get ready to regress! You’ll have guests drooling food, making messes and laughing uncontrollably with this baby shower game. Give each person a large bib and divide the party into teams of two. Each team is given a jar of applesauce and two small spoons. One team at a time, you’ll blindfold the pair and have the team members feed the applesauce to one another at the same time. Clock each team’s time. The fastest duo to finish their applesauce wins. Of course, the best part is watching everyone spill and dribble all over themselves!

17. Baby Shower Onesies

Get a lil’ crafty at your baby shower with this great practical idea. Buy enough onesies (multiple sizes) to give one to each guest. Stretch each across a piece of cardboard and pass them out at the shower along with fabric paint and miscellaneous baby-safe decorative elements. Then, invite everyone to tap into their creative sides by painting a onesie masterpiece designed specifically for the bundle of joy. Once dry, the future parents will have practical works of art to cherish.

18. Diaper Raffle

On average, a newborn pees and poops enough to go though 70 diapers per week. Crazy, but absolutely true. That’s why this simple game is such an amazing gift for the parents-to-be. Include a note with your baby shower invitations letting guests know that you’ll be raffling off an amazing surprise prize at the baby shower. All they have to do to get a raffle ticket is bring a package of diapers with them—and the more diapers they bring, the more raffle tickets they get! On the day of the shower, diapers will be crammed into every nook and cranny. Long after the party, the grateful parents will give silent thanks with each fresh diaper they use.

19. Tinkle in the Pot

If you’ve ever been pregnant—or spoken at length to anyone who is—you know that running to the bathroom every thirty seconds is just par for the course. This game lets guests experience this funky side effect in a fun way. Line up some jars on one side of the room. On the other, have guests line up with a balloon and a quarter. Everyone should blow up the balloons and stuff them under their shirts. Then, they place the quarter tightly between their knees and race to the jar—holding the coin tightly as they waddle as fast as they can. Once at the jar, the contestant must ‘pee’ in the jar, dropping the coin neatly through the opening. The first person to make all of their potty runs will win the prize.
