I am thankful for.....the Spa!

Happy Birthday to me? Well let's just say I did not expect after turning another year older to throw my back out! After a late rocking birthday celebration that included an exciting evening of popcorn, cookies and cartoon movies with my 6 year old daughter and husband, I passed out from a deep carb coma. I woke up the next morning in a pretzel position on my cold couch entwined with my daughter and seven pound diva mini dauchshund (who is quite the heat source). Let's just say my spine was not very happy and had a pinching fight with the main muscles in my lower back. Advil and yoga was my only choice, and the pain of naturally realigning my spine became less and less as the weeks went on. Admittedly it was probably not the best choice, but it took a family bowling trip (yes I did just say bowling) to reinjure my back in a way that hurt like h@ll the next morning. As my husband described the "knot as big as Texas" in my lower back, I cringed to think my life with lower back problems has now finally begun. I could not believe the pain - it was truly unbearable. And all this for bowling? Sigh....

I immediately made an appointment at the Oceano Coastal Spa across from our Savvy Skirts Boutique. I talked to Nichole, the spa director, about my slightly embarrassing bowling incident and about the the 'Texas' issue going on in my lower back. She suggested a warm therapeutic Oceano seabath followed by a deep tissue thai massage. She led me through the beautifully designed spa back to my private massage and tub room. I slipped into the calming aromatic waters with cool lemon scented iced towels for my face. I sat peacefully in the tub and let my aches and pains soak away. Time stopped and my world became a serene quiet place.

I then heard the knock. It was time for phase two - time to work out that knot in my back. For the next hour I was treated to the most relaxing massage from a true expert that knew how to deal with dismantling the 'Texas incident'. All of my muscles were in complete relaxation. I never wanted it to end. When it was all over, my back felt like new! Before I left, Nichole recommended I pick up some some Biofreeze natural pain gel in case I had any residual pain. I went home and put some on before bed (just in case) and went to sleep with an ice pack on my back. I woke up ready for Zumba that very day! I could not believe my lower back pain was completely gone. I am truly thankful for the fabulous memory of a my relaxing and therapeutic experience at the Oceano Coastal Spa. No more bowling!

Girls Night Out at KGO 810 AM

Last Friday was not just any Friday night in Silicon Valley, it was KGO 810 AM's Girls Night Out event. Savvy Skirts was super excited to be a part of the very 1st year for this event held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on October 23, 2009. The ladies of KGO radio hosted a grand girly event that included informational se minars, unique Bay Area vendors, and tasty food & drinks - all for WOMEN ( some of which was catered by Amici's Pizza). Savvy Skirts had a fun time chatting with all the KGO girls and meeting all sorts of fun & fabulous new women. We had a booth next to The Frugal Foodie Cookbook author, Lara Morris Starr. Wonderful (and healthy) spa treatments you can do at home. We look forward to seeing her again at Savvy Skirts!

Part of our own Savvy Skirts team, Nancy Korbet, assisted radio host Rosie Allen with her wardrobe. Nancy’s class taught Rosie and the audience how to figure out your style, how to shop for that and how to purge the black hole of your closet. For useful tips today check out Nancy’s business, Mind Body Wardrobe. Nancy had a great audience and even used a few items from Savvy Skirts (check out the checkered purse in the back!) . Wonderful Bridal Fair @ the Ocean Hotel and Spa!

First of all....thanks to everyone who joined us for the Oceano Hotel & Spa Bridal Fair on Sunday March 1st, 2009. What a super fab event with lots of great wedding information, and uniquely cool wedding professionals. The Oceano Hotel and Spa is just such a lovely location for any event, and thanks to Brian Orlov Photography - you too can watch a beautiful slide show of the Oceano Bridal Fair. (We were lucky enough to have our Savvy Skirts booth right next to them!).

Savvy Skirts was displaying custom wedding and event invitations at the show (sorry online fans - we are currently only showcasing and taking orders for paper invitations in our boutique - but we do carry all the event favors online!). We also had the opportunity to work with Ornamento and help adorn their beautiful floral and themed place settings with our place card settings and favors, like our ever so popular shell place card holders (pictured above), mini candle lanterns, shinin g sails place card holders and matching glass sailboat tea lights. Staying with the beach theme, we once again had the pleasure of working with Sand Scribbles. Not only do we carry their unique handwritten message cards in our boutique, people are just amazed when we tell them about their custom birth, wedding and new home announcements (they even do corporate logos in the sand!!).

Michele from Flora & Fauna of Half Moon Bay had some of the most beautiful flower arrangements, some of which included brussels sprouts and rosemary! And oh my - the red velvet cupcakes from That Takes the Cake in San Francisco were just out of this world (ok - yes I had more than one...and I am still thinking about them now). To add to the decadance, we sampled lovely chocolates from Xocolat, and stared in amazement at the beautiful and delicious cheesecakes from Elegant Cheesecakes (how does she do it??). Good thing that Carla from Mizu Salon was there to make everyone look sensational with her Aveda skin care and makeup line. She also did the hair and makeup for the Maggie Sottero bridal fashion show. This wonderful event was planned by event coordinator Janet Lash from AVSO, with some super support from Sally at Sally Steele Weddings. Look forward to next year's event! We are currently gearing up for the Great Bridal Expo in Burlingame, CA - See you there!

Summer - over? No Way...its endless summer at Savvy Skirts!

It just can't be August? Really...wow all sorts of things going on since Spring (which seemed like just yesterday). Are there really only 24 hours in a day - we have been so misinformed thinking it was 27!. Anyways - the girls at Savvy Skirts have been bustin' a move working on our new store opening Fall 2008 on the beach in California located in beautiful Half Moon Bay Harbor. The new super fabulous Savvy Skirts Boutique will be located in the Shoppes at Harbor Village, located next to the beautiful new Oceano Hotel & Spa. (Note: Ladies - we are located directly across from the Spa!)

All summer we have been dealing with building permits, demising walls, electical planning, paint colors....blah blah blah.....basically our nails are shot, and with the long hours moving our offices - we all need massages! But the end result is a wonderful space with lots of light, color, and room to share new and fun, yet practical gifts. We at Savvy Skirts have always been all about celebrating women and the multiple roles they play.....we are doing just that! Our new boutique is a tribute to women by providing gifts for the busy, multi-tasking gal that are purposeful, yet add pizzazz to their already busy lifestyle (If you have to dust around it - we don't carry it!). After all, smart women need to remember to take care of self (retail therapy), surroundings (home & office), and support (Family...but don't forget your Girlfriends!!!). Spring at Savvy Skirts!

With spring finally upon us, it is time to blow off the protective blankets of winter and get outside for a new fresh perspective. For most everyone, spring has a familiar fresh smell of cut grass and colorful flowers blooming. At this time of year I am trained to think in shades of pastel, which evokes fun childhood memories of Easter egg hunting. Now I see my daughter’s face as she enjoys running around in the warm sun in our backyard and watch her soak up the imagination that this new beginning brings. I love knowing that she has the freedom to just be a girl….. endless energy, imagination and full of adventure without a care in the world. Ahhhh…..imagination, fun, new beginnings… Just being out in the fresh air somehow allows the creativity to flow and the sunshine to inspire.

We too at Savvy Skirts are blowing of the cold of winter with some new beginnings this spring. We are updating our website with all the latest retail therapy for yourself & your girlfriends, and also opening a Savvy Skirts Boutique in May 2008 that will truly feature smart products for smart gals. The store will emphasize the different roles women play in life with themed sections for the Domestic Diva, the She-E-O, the Mom & family nurturer, and of course our favorite, the Girlfriend, to name just a few. Also, we will be featuring some of our newest cool gifts for our Savvy Squirts baby and Savvy Sweet tween sections. The boutique will be located in Half Moon Bay Harbor in the Shops at Harbor Village, part of the luxurious new Oceano Resort & Spa. We will also be launching our Savvy Seminar series where you can come have some fun and learn about creative women who have innovation to share. Holiday Hangover

Happy New Year!!!

I am sure suffering from holiday hangover...you know the one...too much holiday madness. The holidays were fun, the baking, the wrapping, the relatives.....as much fun as that all was, I am sure we are all glad to get on with 2008. I know I am. No amount of alcohol could of given me the holiday hangover headache I have had for the last few days trying to get back on a regular schedule of normal food & activities. The diet and exercise thing has been on my mind, however, this holiday hangover headache has prevented most movement out of my pajamas!

Diet, exercise, and finances - seems like these top 3 might even be your new years resolutions list. I will at least think about organizing these things by sunday. I am counting on next monday to be the start of my new year (so does that mean I will be 7 days late for most things in 2008?) hmmmm....maybe I should check in with my new guilty pleasure www.tarot.com since being in my pajamas means I can take the time to spend my karmic coins and study up on Mars retrograde. However, I must get back in the groove and set out a plan for my new 2008.

Diet.....how about some wise advice from a magic fairy...the Food Slimming Magic Spell Magn et. Now exercise....how about some Oh My Aches and Pains Lotion or Muscle Ache soak for after the gym (I can feel my muscles aching now just thinking about exercise...next week of course!). And now finances...well, I am planning on being more organized for increased productivity with a Mistress of the Messy Desk Mug and an Accomplish Notepad to get things down on paper! I still have 4 more days to finalize the plan (in my pajamas!). Happy New Year!

Savvy Skirts Spa Retreat - Sedona 2007

What a wonderful place to have our first Savvy Skirt Spa Retreat! Sedona, AZ is beautiful all year round, but especially beautiful in November. All of us stayed at the lovely Junipine Resort in Oak Creek Canyon - an absolute must place to visit!

Girlfriends - well honestly, we don't what we would do without each other. When you have good ones, you never let them go. We all came to Sedona with our different issues - looking to find answers to our current struggles and take a break from the grind of daily life. We all certainly took different paths to find those answers.

Some chose comfort in spiritual healers, some through climbing to extreme vortex spots, and others through deep meaninful discussions over pitchers of margaritas. I had my auric photo done and believe it or not, mine was actually pink! To complete the pinkness in our Girly chakras - some went crazy on the Pink Jeep Tours. (highly recommend the Broken Arrow/Scenic Rim Tour at 3 pm to catch the colors of Sedona at sunset). We even got one of the savviest skirts, Jen, who was just fabulous with her mad driving skills at taking us over rocks and scenic back country only available by going off road. It was an adventure of a lifetime! (PS - only 10 women drive jeeps for the Pink Jeep tours out of 66 drivers! Go Savvy Jen!)

With all the spirituality of Sedona, we did find time to worship ourselves at the spa (some of us a few times!). We also made time to relax at the Junipine and use our Sun Tea for the Eyes from Jane Inc. to refresh our eyes after a day in the dry desert, Pink Champagne Lip Balm from Not Soap, Radio to moisturize our lips with a little pink shimmer (complete with a neat little mirror all in a small compact), Green Pastel Hankies to dry our eyes after a vortex moment cathardic cry fest, and Toe Separators for a home spa polish fixer upper.

We all did a very important thing on the last night of our trip - we had a lessons learned (again over margaritas) on what expectations were met with our trip. So we all answered the following 3 questions: 1) Why did we come to Sedona? 2) What did we expect on this trip? 3) What will we take away from the trip when we go back to our daily lives? In the end, none of the psychics and healers in Sedona really did anything but tell us what we already knew - we have the power to make change happen. Even if that wasn't what we all expected to hear for our $100...it sent a very powerful message: you can't expect to find a miracle cure for all your answers. In the end, many of us were disappointed with the generic info the psychics had to offer, but during our spiritual margarita pow-wow, we were all committed to take back control of our lives from others that were wearing us down (work, bad friends/relationships, our inner selves) and make change happen for the positive. We all needed some Purification and Banning Negativity Spray from Fragrant Soul. Until next year.......aaahhhhmmmmm.....

Ahhh....Autumn is officially here. It's a time where everyone is back in school (whether they want to be or not). I am not sure about you, but if you are reading this and you are a mom, a working girl or even a school girl (high school or college) I bet you get just too darn busy! I have more stuff to do for everyone else except for me most days. Instead of getting anything done, sometimes my only energy is to escape by getting up super early in the morning with a cup of strong coffee and just read about other people's more exciting lives......(PS - http://www.tmz.com/ is just the best for celebrity guilty pleasures!).

Since I am up to date on my mindless celebrity trivia...the anticipation of Britney's big performance at the MTV awards is tonight has somehow captured my attention. I realize this should be eliminated from my thoughts completely, (and will be after tonight) but feel compelled to watch it. Maybe it is just to see the "weave" or to see the magic of Criss Angel make Britney more exciting in performance than her daily wacky tabloic antics. So this brings me to my point...sometimes it is nice to escape into someone else's world....how cool would it be to actually be on the red carpet at those awards tonight? A little Gwen, Diddy....and who knows maybe even a little Fall Out Boy..ahhhh a girl can dream. In reality, I may be able to watch the MTV awards in between fixing dinner, bath time for my daughter, laundry and tomorrow's lunch prep. So I will settle for a nice relaxing bath of my own once the chaos is over (and probably the award show).....then watch the awards on TIVO and dream I was on the red carpet!

As I was sitting at the beach today with my adorable 4 yr old little girl, I was pondering life as I was watching her play in the sand. I was thinking about the days of vivid imagination with carefree wonderment - we all had that at one point (maybe some still do). I know with my busy life - working mom, wife, caretaker of my lovely pets, oh and entrepreneur...unless it is scheduled, sometimes it is hard to think about 'carefree'. Sadly my carefree days are the ones when I go to the grocery store without a shopping list!

But back to my daughter - I asked her as she was clearly drawing something in the sand "What are you drawing, Sweetie?". She said "Mommy, I am building a place where the horses can stay and guard the castle". Clearly it just looked like a big sand pit to me, but I said "oh, ok, I think I see that", and tried to play along - but just wasn't quite getting it, as she said "No, Mommy - that's not right!".

That is what made me think back to the days of youth playing with my Girlfriends. You know you found a good Girlfriend when in the same beach scenario someone would go "oohh...and let's add on a place for the monkeys too, just in case the big rainbow monster tries to get the princess!" And it just clicks......and then it is a lifetime of memories back to those days in the sand. As a Mommy role, I am cool to a point with my daughter - and then I am just a Mom.
