Preschool activities to learn about snow and ice!

Snow and Ice Preschool activities!

We've been reading some books all about winter and snow and ice. The weather finally cooperated when we started this unit a few weeks ago and we have even had a few snowfalls!

Here's what we've done:

Made our own Snowglobe. (use a baby food jar or candle jar, some glitter and water)

Practiced Spelling Winter words (using Banangrams tiles. You could also use Scrabble pieces)

Played Ice Hockey to practice reading and spelling a few sight words (using tape, Bananagrams, sponge paint brushes, and a tupperware "goal")

Made a Snowman with Marshmallows

Built a snowman with felt pieces to practice shapes

Made Snowflake Tortillas (warm tortillas in the microwave for a few seconds so you can fold them. Cut shapes out with a plastic knife. Then spray with Pam and back in a 400 degree oven on a greased cookie sheet for 5 min. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and eat!)

Made geometrical snowflakes using Qtips and glue. Arrange them on a piece of cardboard covered in plastic wrap and glue where the Qtips touch. Sprinkle glitter on top. When dry, carefully peel from plastic)

We also did a few things I didn't get a chance to snap a picture of, like making homemade snowcones (blend ice and scoop into cups. Add some apple juice for flavor). We also made predictions on how fast ice would melt (placed 5 cubes in different places- in water, outside, in the fridge, in a room temperature location, and under a lamp).
