When it comes to being the top Dad; the gloves really come off!

When a caring step father Brad Whitaker, trying desperately to get in touch with his step children, has his world turned up by a surprise visit from their biological father Dusty. What follows is a tale of nearly unbelievable one up-man-ship, as the two try to influence and impress their children. By the end, they might just learn the true meaning of family, if they don't kill each other first....

Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg team up for the first time since "The Other Guys" and once again bring uproariously laughter and fair amount of cringe worthy content to the big screen. Farrell is his usual comedic self, with the whacky facial expressions and dead pan delivery of some classic one liners. His portrayal of the desperate to be accepted "Brad Whitaker" is excellent, but at times does leave you wanting to shrink into your popcorn with embarrassment for his character. He plays the role with a feeling and sincerity which we haven't seen since "Frank the Tank" in the delightful "Old School" and it's a side of his talent which is very enjoyable to behold.

Mark Wahlberg seems to be coming up in absolutely everything at the moment and returns for the first time since his Bostonian drawl drew us all in, in "Ted 2". His portrayal of the muscle bound, hardly ever around, "Dusty Mayron" is heart felt and very enjoyable, showing a more sensitive side to his skills and his ability to work seamlessly with child actors. His initial bad-ass attitude, softens as the film goes on and by the end, he will be your favourite character.

Linda Cardellini takes on a very different role than her last outing in "Avengers - Age of Ultron" to take on the challenging task of the motherly "Sara", trying to hold together her new family while the two men in her life try their best to outdo each other. Young Scarlet Estevez brings the cute factor with her role as "Megan" while Owen Vaccaro does some superb work as the young "Dylan". The funniest character by far is "Leo Holt", played by the Mercurial Thomas Haden Church. His portrayal of a radio station manager will leave shaking you head in wonder, as story after inappropriate story rolls off his tongue.

Hannibal Duress, is a lovely surprise as "Griff" and fits in fantastically with both of the leads in this film, be sure to also keep an eye out for a cameo from WWE Superstar, John Cena.

This is a really enjoyable and heart warming film and one which most.....of the family will be able to relate to. You leave the cinema with a warm glow, but also with aching sides from having laughed too much. Well worth the price of admission!

Be careful what you wish for this Christmas, It may just come true....

An extended family is forced to spend the Christmas break together. Things start badly with a lot of infighting, but when the youngest member of the family destroys his wish list for Santa Clause and stops believing in Christmas, it awakens an ancient being...

A paralyzing snow storm is the perfect setting for the family to discover the true meaning of the festive season. If they can work together, they may just be able to defeat a being, Hell-bent on ruining their Christmas

A perfect comedic-horror romp, just in time for the holidays. Dark enough to frighten the kids, but comedic enough to allow adults to nervously laugh at things which go bump in the night.

It is a very hard task to mix horror and comedy and make it credible and this movie, fails to really achieve this. The cast; led by easily recognized comedy actor Adam Scott (Tony Engel) - Whose last outing was a very creditable showing the dramatic "Black Mass", he now returns to his favourite genre and although he does well, a more serious role, does seem to suit him better.

Australian actress Toni Collette, does well as "Sara Engel", the long suffering wife of Adam Scott, giving a convincing performance, as the stressed host of a large family holiday gathering. The true star of the show comes in the familiar form of Conchata Ferrell (Better known to the world as "Berta" from 9 seasons of Two and a Half Men) - Pretty much reprises her role as the very comical "Aunt Dorothy".

Twelve year old Emjay Anthony takes on the biggest role of his young career with the semi-lead as "Max Engel". His disbelief in Santa Clause, starts all of the trouble and he does really well throughout. Austrian actress Krista Stadler, deserves a strong mention for her role as "Omi". Her wise words seemingly going unheeded as the story unfolds, but the rest of the cast learns to listen to her by the end.

The special effects team are the ones who deserve highest praise on this one, creating some very interesting, if somewhat unbelievable festively themed monsters to antagonize the family. This was an enjoyable film throughout, although I found it hard to take seriously with a well known comedian in the lead role.

In the future, an exclusive world will be the ultimate destination; but only those brave enough will ever make it there...

In the distant future, the super rich have created a world for themselves in nearby space, called Elysium, where there is never any illness, violence or sadness. The rest of the people on earth are left to fend for themselves with little access to medical care and living in slum conditions.

When "Max" is struck down by radiation poisoning after an accident at work, he knows his only way to survive is to access the medical scanners only present on Elysium. He has to bypass the security fields and make his way to the promised land without being shot down in the process. When he robs and murders an important man in his quest to reach Elysium, he comes face to face with a force who has sworn to protect the elitist way life, no matter the results...

South African director, Neill Blomkamp, returns to the big screen for the first time since his epic debut in "District 9" with a film which feels remarkably similar, but covers a far different terrain. His style is courageous and daring, but very entertaining no less, but the film could almost be a big brother to his first effort. It will be good to see what his next film does, as he needs a change of scenery.

Matt Damon takes the lead role as "Max" a former child of the street, whose lifes goal it is to reach Elysium. His portrayal is gritty, yet surprisingly sensitive and he does well in a challenging role. It is a good outing to follow his recent showing in "Behind the Candelabra", but the role did not come close to testing his talents.

Jodie Foster returns to the big screen for the first time since her stunning role in "Carnage" of 2011, with a decent showing as Head of Elysium security "Delacourt". She gives a stylish performance, with the only detracting factor being that her accent seems to be all over the place. She starts off French, the moves to English, American and in one scene even takes on a South African twang. Despite that it is good to see her back on the screen in this convincing role.

The star of "District 9" Sharlto Copley, plays almost the exact same character as the one which shot him to stardom, but this time seems a bit darker, and if anything, a LOT more crazy in his portrayal of "Kruger". His performance is superb, and along with Brandon Auret and Josh Blacker they make very motley crew of South African mercenaries. This is a good showing from Copley, but it would be very interesting to see this actor do a non military role.

Alice Braga gives a quite good showing as "Frey", this Brazilian actress showing that she is not only beautiful, but also rather adept in a number of different genres. She shows a far more caring side to her talents as a doctor and a mother in this one, and I look forward to seeing her next movie performance.

William Fichtner can seemingly not stop making good films. Following up his great role as "Butch Cavendish" in "The Lone Ranger", with another stunning performance as businessman "John Carlyle". He takes care of the dirty business, about which the citizens of "Elysium" do not want to know. This is a challenging role, which he manages with ease.

The film is decent stand alone effort, but with an almost identical setting and a few of the same actors, it is bound to draw comparisons to "District 9". It is enjoyable, but does drag a little in the middle. There is a fair amount of violence and bad language, so probably not one for the entire family, but a good way to spend an evening.

An evil spirit latches onto a young family and its up to a pair to Ghost Hunters to try and save their lives...

When the Perron family move into their new home with their five daughters, they have no idea of the history which comes with the house. Soon they are being terrorized by an evil spirit and they have no option but to turn to a pair of professional Ghost Hunters. The Warrens, are recognized by the Catholic Church for their skills in finding and removing evil, but even they have trouble in coming to terms with what is inside the Perron house. If they can keep control over their own emotions they may be able to stop the presence which seeks to destroy both their and the Perron families, lives.

In what seems to be a glut of "based on true events films", Malaysian director James Wan (He of "Saw" and "Insidious" fame), brings us the next film which is meant to make us cling to our seats and watch the screen through our cool drink bottles as he tries to scare us. In this he does quite a decent job as the movie certainly will make you jump a few times, and even elicited the odd screech of fright from the audience. On the back of that, it does drag in places, and is a little predictable, but all in all is a quite good film.

Vera Farminga and Patrick Wilson play "Ed" and "Lorraine Warren", she a psychic and he a demonologist, who go around college campuses discussing their "trade" with whoever will listen. Both give decent performances, but you come away from the film, not really convinced by their characters. Some of her "experiences" are far from believable, but the couple does keep the film chugging along.

Lili Taylor, spends most of her time on TV screens, in the likes of "Hemlock Grove" and "Blood Ties", but makes a good step onto the big screen as "Carolyn Perron". Her transformation from courageous home maker and mother to five daughters, into possessed maniac with a blood lust for killing children is impressive. She may well have found her niche in horror and should be interesting to see how her next few showings pan out. Ron Livingston completes his seventh project for 2013 with his role as "Roger", but never really brings anything to the party and is almost forgettable in this one.

John Brotherton grows a mustache and gives a very decent performance as "Officer Brad" in this film, reminding me a lot of "Deputy Dewey" out of the "Scream" franchise, and even managed to bring the odd laugh with his antics. It would be interesting to see him in a more serious role next time.

The undoubted star of the show is the young Joey King, whose career continues to go from strength to strength in the role of "Christine". The fourteen year old, who we saw recently in "White House Down" and "Oz The Great and Powerful" is a true joy to behold in this film, despite having a far smaller part than she deserves. It is hugely encouraging to see a youngster with this much talent and viewers should look forward to each and every project in which she is involved. A truly inspirational performance in a film which made it hard to do so. Another talent to keep an eye out for is the much younger Kyla Deaver, whose showing as "April" shows she also has a big career ahead of her.

The film is one of those which will make you jump and laugh nervously afterwards, but does not go as far as to truly frighten the audience. As a story it is decent and worthwhile of your time, but for hardened horror fans will be a bit of a joke. For those not too familiar with the genre, it is a good stand alone film and left itself open for possible sequels.

The story of a masked man and his Indian companion as they look to find themselves in the early days of the Wild West.

The retelling of the classic tale of the Lone Ranger and his trusted side kick Tonto, all told to a little boy through the ancient memories of the great warrior. When John Reid returns to his small home town of Colby to practice law, little does he know he will be drawn into a web of suspense and intrigue that will make him question everything for which he stands.

Together with his "Magical" steed "Silver" and his trusty companion "Tonto", he will risk life and limb to avenge the murder of his brother and bring down the bloodthirsty gang leader "Butch Cavendish".

Legendary Director Gore Verbinsky, the genius behind the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and most recently "Rango", now turns his attention to a rather more well known story, bringing to the big screen "The Lone Ranger" and his companion "Tonto". He does a fairly decent job on this film; one which could have gone either way with his audience over the age of 35 who remember the classic series.

Johnny Depp does a great job in the role of both the Aged and Youthful, "Tonto", bringing a comedic element to the film which keeps it rolling nicely, with a laugh here and there as the action continues unabated. Once more Depp moves slightly further away from his iconic "Captain Jack Sparrow", but never strays too far from the core character which has elevated his star to the very top of his profession. His portrayal of "Tonto" is enjoyable and he makes the character a lot more fun that one might have expected.

Armie Hammer returns to the big screen for the first time since donning his tights as "Prince Alcott" in "Mirror Mirror", this time taking a far more serious role as "John Reid" and "The Lone Ranger". He gives a decent performance, showing a good amount of versatility which may leave the audience wondering what is next for this talented actor. His vengeful, yet contained portrayal of the much loved law man is worth the admission fee alone, but you do wonder if he could have brought a bit more manliness which the role demanded?

William Fitchner seems to be at the very peak of his career, rolling out one film after the next. Hot on the heels of his showing as "John Carlyle" in Elysium with Jodie Foster and Matt Damon, he plays a far more darker character in the form of the ruthless killer "Butch Cavendish". Fitchner brings style and panache to a difficult character, combining the "Devil May Care" attitude along with the cold and calculating ruthlessness of a career criminal. He truly is the highlight of the film for me and his sinister portrayal mixes well with the comedy from Depp and Hammer.

British veteran Tom Wilkinson is excellent as "Latham Cole", the ruthless railway company boss, who will stop at nothing to achieve the goals which he has set for his transport conglomerate. Helena Bonham Carter once again gives a great performance as the Madam "Red Harrington", her ivory leg and dark cynicism, always good for a few laughs. Ruth Wilson does well as the love interest "Rebecca Reid" and this should prove a useful step in moving her from a TV career and onto the big time.

The film, as a standalone piece, is a good bit of cinema, but for those of us who grew up with the original series, it seems to pale slightly. The action is good, but is fine for all of the family, while the story carries on at a decent pace, but will never really have you on the edge of your seat. The combination of Depp and Hammer is a good one and would be interesting to see again. Worth a watch.

Three years after Kick Ass first jumped onto our screens, he is back and this time looking to join a team....

Crime fighting super hero Kick Ass has now reached high school and decides to take his heroic escapades to the next level, by joining a team.

With the help of a group of like minded crime busters, he goes to work cleaning up the city, but will have to deal with the evil intentions of his Arch nemesis, "Red Mist", who is hell bent on revenge after the slaying of his crime-lord father.

Both sides will form armies and fight to the death as the deranged "Red Mist" does everything in his extensive array of powers to avenge his fathers' demise. A world of change awaits Kick Ass, as he comes to terms with the reality of the dangers involved with the costume he has chosen to wear.

The second in the highly successful series, returns the popular Kick Ass and Hit Girl to our screens, once more trying to rid the worlds of the criminal element. A good attempt to revive the glory of the first smash hit, but one which falls sorely short in entertainment value. The characters have to come to terms with teenage angst and a few more reality checks, which leaves a distinct lack of comedy in this second incantation.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson reprises the role which rocketed him to fame in 2010 giving a decent showing as both "Dave Lizewski" and the inimitable crime fighter "Kick Ass", but there is something missing from the loveable teen of the first film, a darker, more serious side seems to have taken hold of the character and for me, not one for the better. In his first outing since "Anna Karenina" he gives a good performance, but the character and the way it is written lets him down. Keep an eye on this talented actor and look for him to take on more serious roles in the coming years.

Chloe Grace Moretz first burst into our collective consciousness as "Hit Girl" a foul-mouthed pre-teen, expertly trained by her rather deranged "Big Daddy" to be the ultimate killing machine. We have seen her sparkle in the likes of "Hugo" and "Dark Shadows" since then, showing the acting talent which has already made her a super star, but her high school version of "Hit Girl" is not one that will be long remembered. The role was perfectly suited to an 11 year old girl in 2010, but now as a moody and troubled teen does not hold the same fascination as before. A truly talented actress, but not her best outing as both "Hit Girl" and "Mindie Macreedy"

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is the one shining light in this one; moving from his character of "Red Mist" to the vengeful and power mad, "MotherF*cker". He is hell bent on avenging his father, who was killed by "Kick Ass" with a bazooka. His portrayal of the truly deranged character brings some much needed comic relief to the film, as he appoints himself the worlds' first super villain. His building of a gang of super criminals is entertaining and also a little sick, but makes for a few, much needed high points in the film.

Young Claudia Lee, who makes her big screen debut in this one as the arch high school nemesis of "Hit Girl", does a sterling job as "Brooke" and I think we can expect big things from this talented 17 year old.

Clark Duke, known to the world for his roles in "The Office" and "Robot Chicken", gives a very decent performance as "Marty" as well as the deceptive crime fighter "Battle Guy". His natural comedic talent shines through in this role and adds a lot of much needed substance to this film. Legendary funny man Jim Carrey, returns to the big screen for the first time since "Mr Poppers' Penguins" , with a great, if far too short, showing as "Colonel Stars and Stripes". His borderline lunacy and dedication to the cause are commendable and he is a shining light in a movie which would otherwise have been short of appealing features.

The film fails to deliver in the wake of high expectations, falling a bit flat and is not the finest piece of cinema you will see this year. The established characters are tired and possibly a bit too old in this one. The lack of comedy is noticeable and in places the film is down right depressing. I was expecting something a lot more light hearted and was disappointed.

Not an alltogether bad film, but I was expecting a lot more...

5/10

The true story of a young family, torn apart by the tsunami which hit Thailand in 2004.

Based on a the harrowing yet triumphant story of courage and survival of a Spanish family who were victims of the tsunami which hit South East Asia on Boxing day of 2004. The adventure follows the lives of five members of the "Bennet" family, torn asunder by the might of the unexpected waves and how they come to terms with not only the thought of losing each other, but risking their very lives in order to find the people they value most.

Director Juan Antonio Bayona switches to English for the first time in his nine film career and delivers one of the finest films of 2012/13. His retelling of the harrowing ordeals faced by so many tourists and locals in Thailand on Boxing day 2004 and the days which followed is horrific, but alarmingly real, and gives the average audience member a true sense of what it must have been like to experience this ultimate natural phenomenon. His direction is superb and it is truly disappointing that he was not giving more award nominations for this fantastic film. There are sure to be many good things to come from this talented Spaniard in the future.

English born Naomi Watts, gives what is quite easily the best performance of her career in this film, and is more than deserving of her Best Actress Oscar nomination, the second of her career, after getting the nod in 2004 for "21 Grams". Her role as "Maria" is inspiring and spectacular and gives you a true, heartfelt idea of what it was like to go through this tragedy. Her range of emotions is fantastic and the raw determination that her character shows throughout is remarkably inspirational. One of the finest performances I have seen in a long time, and in with a very good chance of walking away with an Oscar.

Ewan McGregor gives a very decent performance as "Henry", playing his emotional role well and bringing a lot of the more tender moments to this moving film. He continues in the fine vein, which have seen him deliver, "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" and "Haywire" in the past year. His interaction with his family is convincing and he plays an integral part in making this film as good as it is.

The most pleasant surprise in this great film is the performance given by the sixteen year old Tom Holland in the role of "Lucas". This youngster gives a showing, you would expect of actors with more than 20 years experience, drawing on all of his extensive talent to ride out triumphantly on the emotional roller-coaster that is this movie. One can only hope that this is just the start of his career and that the various "best young actor" and "best newcomer" awards will continue to rain down on him. He is an exciting talent and I cannot wait for his next feature film. His role is a real treat for each member of the audience.

Samuel Joslin and and Oaklee Pendergast also give stirring performances as the young "Simon" and "Thomas", adding to the emotional angst that keeps the film at fever pitch throughout. Expect big things from both of these talented youngsters in the next five to ten years.

This film is brutal in its intensity, and incredibly real. There are many times throughout the 114 minutes of this epic, where you really do feel as if you are going through this disaster with those who suffered it first hand. The cinematography is fantastic, the setting is brilliant and the realism, often makes you want to turn away from the sheer force that is mother nature. Make sure you watch this one from start to finish.

For me, the best film I have seen in 2013

8.5/10

The story of the 16th President of the United States, his attempt to abolish slavery and end the American Civil War.

In 1865 President Abraham Lincoln tabled and passed an amendment through the Senate; Amendment 13, which he not only hoped would abolish slavery in the Southern States, but as a result end the four year old, American Civil War.

With the aid of his Republican colleagues in the house he needs to find the 20 extra Democratic votes in order to get a 2/3 majority and pass the controversial bill. While trying to achieve this he has to deal with a troublesome wife, headstrong son who insists on enlisting and fellow politicians intent on seeing his measures fail.

Director Steven Spielberg once again throws his hat into the Oscars ring, for the second year running, continuing in the historical magic of "War Horse" in 2012, with the inspired telling of this world changing story. In the process he picks up his 7th Best Director nomination, some 35 years after his first nod for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". The film is beautifully shot, superbly set and well managed, slightly softening some of the horrific scenes which inevitably took place during that time.

Daniel Day-Lewis takes on the monumental task of portraying one of the greatest men in American history with relative ease and not a small amount of prosthetics. He does a superb job playing "Lincoln", bringing a man, long dead, back to life and making this a very enjoyable film. In the process he picks up his FIFTH Oscar nomination for Actor in a leading role, some 23 years after his first for "My Left Foot" and five years since his last win for "There will be Blood". He does a very decent job as the great leader, stern and straight laced when needed, but also a loving father and devoted husband in quieter times.

Sally Field is by far the highlight of this film, giving one of the finest peformances of her career as the slightly mad, but immensely strong "Mary Todd Lincoln", for which she receives her third Oscar nomination. Its 33 years since her first and 28 years since her last win. It is interesting to note, that every time Field has been nominated for the Golden Statue, she has won, something to remember. The audience will find it easy to feel sorry for this downtrodden woman who seems to be behind the scenes, but may well have all of the power.

Tommy Lee Jones, gives a performance for which there are very few words one can find to describe. Brilliant; inspired; genius, hardly do this talented actor justice as he takes on one of the best roles of his illustrious career, in the portrayal of "Thadeus Stevens". He is well rewarded with his fourth Oscar nomination, his first since 2008, and he is sure to be very close to winning in late February.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt continues with his meteoric rise, with his first outing since "Looper" with the difficult role of the petulant "Robert Lincoln". His portrayal is enjoyable and convincing, but the audience will struggle to see him as anything more than a spoiled and head strong young man. A very decent performance.

Some other noteworthy performances come from the likes of Hal Holbrook, James Spader and the very talented David Strathairn who is awesome as "William Seward". His performance is memorable and shows what a pivotal role in history.

The film is very enjoyable, but might be 20 minutes too long. It drags only very occasionally and pays great respect to some very difficult topics. If you are easily offended by scenes of violence and war, then this may not be for you, but saying that, the cinematography and story telling is superb and you would be doing yourself a disservice to not see this film.

An airline pilot saves many people when his plane crashes, but the subsequent investigation reveals the real story...

When a packed passenger airliner falls apart at 30,000 feet it is assumed that everybody on board would die, but through quick thinking and years of experience Captain "Whip" Whitaker is able to land it safely. Afterwards he is thrown into an investigation of professional negligence and the real truth about his errant lifestyle is bound to come out.

Legendary director Robert Zemeckis, best known for his inspired work on "Back to the Future" and its blockbusting sequels, returns to the chair for the first time since "A Christmas Carol" in 2009 to bring a truly special film to the big screen. Touching on the very emotive topics of alcoholism and drug addiction with a great amount of feeling and showing both sides of the coin in a rather tragic, yet somehow triumphant story.

Denzel Washington takes the lead in this terrific film, and is excellent value for his amazing, SIXTH Oscar nomination, two of which he has converted to golden statues. It is 11 years since this immensely talented actor received the nod for the ultimate prize in his industry, but with his portrayal as "Whip Whitaker", a man trying and failing to hold his life together despite being completely off the rails, he finally returns to the limelight. His performance as a lifetime drunk and drug user is at times, hard to watch, but always convincing and very entertaining, bringing the necessary gravity to a role which deeply deserves it.

John Goodman, seems to be popping up all over the place in the past twelve months with outings in "Argo" and "The Trouble with the Curve", but surpasses all of these with his wonderful portrayal of the rather unorthodox "Harling Mays". A lifetime friend to the lead character, but also his drug dealer and unofficial saviour, "Mays" could also be blamed for the troubled place where "Whitaker" finds himself. Goodman may not be on screen for much of the film, but his performance is truly awesome and his comedic style holds the film together when it threatens to unravel.

Don Cheadle returns to feature films for his first outing since the dark comedy, "The Guard" in 2011 with a tremendous showing as high powered lawyer "Hugh Lang". He really seems to take to this role with gusto and shows the amazing amount of wheeling and dealing which is done behind the scenes by legal wranglers. A very enjoyable experience watching this talented and versatile actor in this film!

Bruce Greenwood, better known for his work on tv, comes back to the big screen with great showing as "Charlie Anderson", trying to keep his friendship with "Whitaker" together despite the pilot trying his very best to throw it away. He joins Washington for the third time in their careers, having worked alongside him on "St Elsewhere" in the 80's and then "Deja Vu" in 1996. His performance is dedicated and believable and the audience cannot help but feel sorry for his character and his seemingly fruitless efforts to save the career and life of his friend.

Kelly Reilly does a wonderful job as "Nicole", giving a great performance as this troubled young woman who does her best to keep her life together while trying to aid the self destructive "Whitaker". It would be good to see more of this talented actress in the future. Also keep an eye out for the beautiful Nadine Valezquez who makes a good break from her TV career as "Katerina Marquez". Her time on screen is short lived, but is entertaining.

The film is well paced and enjoyable, with Washington giving a superb performance in the lead. He is well deserving of his best actor Oscar nomination and seems decent money to win his third award. The film is a very serious one, with the odd light hearted moment, but does pay the correct amount of respect to various issues which plague modern society. This one is a very good watch and will keep the audience engaged throughout the 138 minutes running time.

This move is well worth your admission fee and is entertaining from start to end.

A German bounty hunter frees a slave in the deep South and takes him on a long trip to Mississippi in order to find the wife of the former slave and set her free.

When "Doctor King Schultz" frees a former runaway slave "Django" in the most unorthodox fashion, he starts an adventure which will take them both a long way in the search of the former slaves wife, Broomhilda.

Along the way they will run foul of slave traders, fighting men and a butler with a massive chip on his shoulder, as they strive to pull off one of the most ambitious plans of the 1850's. Throw in the early makings of the Klu Klux Klan and you have the perfect setting for an epic.

Famed Director Quentin Tarantino returns to the big screen for the first time since the Inspired 2009 Inglorious Basterds, not only directing, but also writing this brilliant film and having the undeniable talent to mold a world class cast into something truly special. Tarantino excels in this movie, bringing all of his class and usual panache to the screen, but this time with something extra. He pays homage to the famous Spaghetti Western legends "Bud Spencer" and "Terrence Hill" a number of times, tipping his hat to the men who cemented western comedy in the 70's.

Jamie Foxx takes on the lead role of "Django", a talented freed man who returns for his first outing since "Motherf**cker Jones" in the dark comedy "Horrible Bosses" and may well have succeeded in following up his Oscar winning role in "Ray" with this fantastic showing, sadly he was not given the nod this year. His performance is genuine and heart felt and he takes on this difficult role with ease. A truly inspiring outing from this talented actor

Oscar winner Christopher Waltz teams up with Tarentino again FINALLY delivers the performance which we have all been waiting for. Yes, he crawls out from under the immense shadow which was cast by his "Inglorious Basterds" persona, "Hans Landa" and shows a whole new side to his talents in yet another award nominated performance as "Doctor King Schultz". His role is comedic, yet very serious and he pulls this off with his usual brilliance, fitting in seamlessly with the ideals of the great director. He is an especially shining light in this one and is a joy to behold throughout.

The talented Leonard DiCaprio was unlucky not to receive another award nomination with his fantastic portrayal of slave owner and fight fan, "Calvin Candie". His character is dark and brooding, but also shows a large amount of naivety in his dealings with Schultz and Django. His acting, as always is superb, and this role brings out some of his best in a long while, showing that this talented actor has lost none of his talent. He is a true joy to behold in this outing and continues to crank out terrific performances.

Hollywood Legend Samuel L Jackson is truly superb in his short onscreen time as "Stephen", the long time butler and general slave overseer at "CandieLand". His underhandedness and cunning as well as a massive chip on his shoulder makes his character really easy to hate. He is a real treat in this film in one of his finest performances in a distinguished career. The only shame is that he is not on screen for longer. Keep an eye out for a lovely cameo from Quentin Tarentino, despite a truly horrible attempt at an Aussie accent.

The film is awesome and action packed from start to finish, a real treat for any film lover and a must for any fans of Tarentino. The only detracting factor from this classic is that it is possibly 20 minutes too long, but does not drag at all. It is well deserving of its best film Oscar Nomination and I think the director is very unlucky not to get more nominations from this masterpiece. The subject matter of slavery is serious, but with a comedic slant, and for those easily offended, stay far away from this one.

A man who developed Polio at the age of six and now as an adult has to spend most of his day in a restrictive iron lung, decides he wants to experience sex for the first time. With the aid of a sex therapist, he discovers not only the ways of the world, but also faces a number of issues which have been repressed for a lifetime.

Based on a true story, this is a film of love, passion, fear and self loathing, played out on a topic which is not often broached, never mind portrayed; sex amongst the physically disabled. The tale is fascinating; tender, and in places extremely comedic, told in a fashion, which leaves the audience feeling triumphant at its close, rather than depressed.

John Hawkes, better known for his forays into TV acting in the likes of "Lost", plays the role of his life, as the almost completely immobile, "Mark O'Brein", a man, whose body has been left needing constant care after a bout of childhood Polio. Now a successful author, "Mark" decides that despite only being able to move his head, he should lose his virginity at the age of 37. After speaking to his priest, "Father Brendan", played by former Oscar nominee William H Macey, he is given the blessing of the church, "Mark" reaches out to sex therapist "Cheryl", portrayed by Helen Hunt.

The former Oscar winner, gets her second nomination for a role which could quite easily be the finest of her career. Her portrayal of the sex therapist "Cheryl", not only calls for Hunt to be nude for large parts of the film, but also shows the true depths of her talent, as she comes to terms with some very strong emotions, which threaten to tear her life apart.

Moon Bloodgood, best known for her work on television, and a role in "Terminator Salvation", gives a superb showing as the very caring "Vera". With a performance such as this, the audience is left wondering why this Nebraskan beauty has not done more work on the big screen and hope that this outing will lead to more feature films. Keep an eye out for "Cheers" legend, Rhea Perlman who has lost none of her on screen charm in this wonderful cameo.

The film discusses some really heavy topics, but is remarkably uplifting and dealt with in a way which lets you leave the cinema with a light heart and believing in the good of life. The only let down for me, was that veteran director Ben Lewin, who also wrote the screen play, was not given more recognition during this awards season.

A truly enjoyable movie and one which should not be missed this year.

A man wrongly convicted of being a traitor against the United States, is given an opportunity for a reprieve by taking on a suicide mission to a prison in space!

When the daughter of the President of the United States is kidnapped while on a visit to a maximum security prison in space, it is decided that only one man on earth can possibly save her. The problem is that he has no wish as all to take on the suicide mission, nor does he care much for the political views of the man running the country.

Once his mind is made up for him, he has to break into the most dangerous prison in the galaxy, make his way past 300 of the worst criminals in history and rescue the young woman, all before the dangerous men discover exactly who they have in their hands. If the unwilling hero is able to make it there and back intact, he may just have his wrongful death sentence overturned.

Australian actor Guy Pierce has done a number of very decent films in his career, especially in recent years, but this one, although decent, does not come anywhere do the sort of quality he usually delivers. His portrayal of the the rather familiar, "Snow", is fairly good, but one cannot help but compare him to the rather more famous character of "Snake Plissken".

Directors James Mather and Stephen St Leger, who also wrote the screenplay, did their very best to disguise the fact that this "original" script just happened to be a cross between "Escape from New York", "Con Air" and any random space film you can think of. Given these facts, they did do quite a decent job and if you had not seen these films, it would have been a very good stand alone project. The film is fast paced, action packed, and even has the odd good one liner thrown in for good measure.

Big screen newcomer Maggie Grace takes the leading female role in this film, playing the role of "Emilie Warnock" and gives a very decent showing, taking to action like a very attractive duck to water. Look out for more from this fairly talented actress. Joseph Gilgun, continues his vein of playing criminals, with a truly superb performance as the completely insane "Hydell". He is the true highlight of this movie, and could well have done with playing a far bigger role in this one. He is a character you will want to hate, but somehow end up feeling sympathy for.

This movie is nothing special, but is worth the cost of the ticket and the popcorn. It will certainly be better on the big screen, and the special effects are a joy to behold at times. This will keep the action fans happy and a number of sci-fi fans entertained too. It's not going to win any awards, but will help you kill two hours on a Sunday afternoon

When 8 year old John Bennett wishes for his teddy-bear and best friend to be real one Christmas Eve he has no idea that his wish will come true, nor that his best friend will still be with him 25 years down the line and making his entire life, a nightmare.

When his long time girlfriend gives John an ultimatum of getting rid of "Ted" he asks his best friend to move out, but finds it very difficult to move on with his life. When "Ted" is kidnapped by a lunatic stalker, its left up to "John" and girlfriend "Lori" to save the day and try to return to the "normal" life the three of them have enjoyed for so long.

Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis team up for the first time in a film, whose trailers promised filth and superb comedy from the start and delivered this in full. Throw in a foul mouthed Teddy-bear played by Seth Mcfarlane (The voice of Peter Griffin in Family Guy) and you have the ingredients for a truly enjoyable comedy romp, which although frightfully funny, also delivers a very decent message.

The combination of Wahlberg as "John" and Kunis as "Lori" is a wonderful pairing, bringing some true romantic chemistry to the film, while, although some might think Seth Mcfarlane uses the exact same voice that made him face to portray "Ted", this character is different, and possibly quite a bit more enjoyable than his "Family Guy" delivery.

Mark Wahlberg, returns to the big screen for the first time since his very decent showing in "Contraband", bringing a more light-hearted character, which many male members of the audience could identify with. His portrayal of "John" is decent and convincing and you find yourself feeling rather sorry for him, despite him getting himself into a lot of his own messes.

Mila Kunis once again delivers a great showing as the largely ignored "Lori". She also comes back to the big screen after a short absence, with her first showing since "Friends with Benefits" alongside Justin Timberlake. Although her character is not particularly likeable, she still does a good job and continues to build a rather decent movie career. It should be interesting to see where she goes in the next few years as she seeks out more challenging roles.

Little known, Jessica Barth does well as "Tami-Lynn", the romantic interest for "Ted". This stunning actress has spent most of her time on TV, but hopefully this will be her stepping stone into films, as she shows good potential. Also keep an eye out for Patrick Stewart, Norah Jones and the one and only "Flash Gordon", acting legend, Sam J Jones.

Ted is an enjoyable comedic romp, with just the right amount of romantic good feeling thrown in. The humour is adult and most certainly not for those who are easily shocked, but this is a must for all of those who enjoy the likes of "Family Guy", "South Park" and "American Dad". It certainly is worth a go, and well worth the time you spend watching this one.

A bereaved family has their house invaded by a heavy metal loving anarchist who teaches them a few things about life...

When a young man who recently lost his mother in a horrific car accident breaks the window of a squat occupied by a heavy metal listening anarchist, he has no idea what he is letting himself or his family in for.

"T.J", his father "Paul" and "Grandma", all live in the same house trying to get over the traumatic death of their wife, mother and daughter in law, each in their own way. In a twist of fate, "Hesher", a mad, heavy metal driven anarchist comes into their lives, invading their house and making it his own. He brings with him his own very unique outlook on the world, caring only for himself and in no way understanding the pain those around him are going through.

As "T.J" goes from one stage of grief to the next, he meets "Nicole", a broke supermarket teller and despite their age difference (him being 10 and her a lot older), falls in love with her. Through all of this confusion and tragedy, "Hesher" seems to be the only "sane" one in the world, but will the rest of them stop long enough to listen to his wisdom?

The trailer for this film promised good things and more than delivered on these, director and writer Spencer Sussor producing one of the finest, yet most dark films to be released in 2011. The movie is a work of genius, but one of the most depressing films I have seen in a long time. The combination of unexpected grief and the inability of the family to carry on, mindless destruction and no seeming need to answer for their actions, make this a truly dark film, but the characters meld superbly to make an awesome film.

Traditionally a comedy actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who soared to fame in Third Rock from the Sun), he has now started taking to more serious roles and in this one is possibly his darkest one yet as "Hesher". From the man who starred in "Inception" and then went on to award nomination in "50/50", this is a new career high. He is truly inspirational in this film, as a dark and brooding metal-head, who does things simply to see their effect on people. His performance is something very special, playing this very dysfunctional character to perfection. Bravo!

Oscar winner Natalie Portman has made some fantastic films in her time and some true horrors, but her role as "Nicole" in this one, ranks up there with the best of them. Her hopeless and destitute character brings out the very best in this actress, plumbing the depths of depression which shows just what a fantastic talent she is. Her character is dark, while at the same time, being possibly the happiest in the entire film, but seems to meld a number of different emotions together for a fantastic result.

Young Devin Brochu is phenomenal in this film in what is effectively the lead role of "T.J". His portrayal of a grieving boy who has lost his mother suddenly and the anger, frustration, disillusionment at his situation where is father is unable to be a stable figure in his life, while trying to deal with his own loss. His performance is superb, one of the finest I have seen of an actor this young. His mood is dark and brooding, and he reaches out to anybody who will giving him the stability he so badly needs. I look forward to seeing a hell of a lot more of this talented youngster.

Rainn Wilson, best known for his starring role in "The Office", tries his hand at the more serious side of his craft and delivers something very decent indeed in the role of "Paul". His inability to deal with the sudden loss of his wife is deeply tragic and disturbing and adds so much to the true drama of this film. Piper Laurie who plays Grandma is probably the true highlight in this magnificent film. Her character strikes you as so helpless, that you cannot but help yourself in supporting her.

The film is harsh and brutal, yet at the same time tender and tragic. It mixes all the best of all the characters to introduce a fantastic script and a story which will leave you sitting in silence as the credits roll. This film is something very special, but wears its heart on its sleeve and makes absolutely no apologies for this. Watch this film with an open mind and be prepared to be impressed. Not a happy movie.

After a girl's football team is scrapped she decides to take matters into her own hands by impersonating her brother in order to play in an important match.

When her brother "Sebastian" decides to ditch his brand new school for a few weeks while playing music with his band in London, his sister "Viola" decides to prove a point to her sexist soccer coach and poses as her older brother to play in a vital game against her own school.

Along the way she gets herself into some fairly major pickles. Not only does she fall in love with her room-mate "Duke", but also has to fend off the rather unwanted advances of her lab partner "Olivia", who finds "Sebastian" the perfect man. "Viola" also has to try and dodge the real girlfriend of her brother and also her own Ex-Boyfriend "Justin" who seems to take great offense at the fact that the girl he thinks is still his girlfriend seems to be falling for his mortal enemy "Duke".

If that is not enough to make your head hurt, "Viola" still has to live life as a boy and also learn how to play soccer like one too. If she can wrap all of these things together, she may just live happily ever after...

It was difficult to know what to expect from this film, but despite early doubts it does turn out quite well. The cast of well known and not so well known actors gels well together, and although the script is lacking in places, it turns out to be quite a decent film.

Amanda Bynes takes the lead role in just her fourth major film, having spent most of her career on American TV, but does a decent job in the end, taking on the roles of both "Viola" and "Sebastian". She is not really challenged in this role, but does bring a fair bit of comedic value to this film, especially with the continual lapses of her "deep" voice. It would be interesting to see this actress in a more serious role as she may well surprise.

Rising superstar Channing Tatum has shown that he can do well in a number of different genres, but in this one, was still very much considered a one trick "pretty boy" actor. He is not really challenged in the role of "Duke", but does show a nice sensitive side that would serve him well later on in life. He does well as the jock in this film, trying his utmost not to show his sensitive side, but giving into it occasionally and giving the audience somebody to root for.

Laura Ramsey does a decent job in the role of the love struck "Olivia", hopelessly infatuated with her new lab partner "Sebastian" and almost completely ignorant of the fixation which "Duke" has for her. Her role is not massively challenging, but she does well and makes the film a lot more enjoyable than it could have been. Stand up comedian David Cross brings a lot of laughs to the screen in his role as the "cool" principal Gold. His contribution alone is worth the admission fee.

Probably the highlight of the film is Welsh acting legend "Vinnie Jones", who goes back to what he does best as a soccer coach in his role as "Coach Dinklage". He rants and he rages, but with a lot fewer of the four letter utterances which we are used to from this Hollywood hard-man. He does not have the biggest role in this one, but I feel would have benefited the film a lot more had he played more of a part.

Julie Haggarty does well as "Daphne", the demanding mother of "Viola", while James Kirk does a decent enough job as the real "Sebastian". This film was never going to win any awards and in many places could be described as predictable, but it has a cute story and some very decent laughs stemming from many and varied uncomfortable situations. This one is worth a watch, but don't expect any Oscar challenging performances.

A race of Aliens attack a block of flats in one of the worst part of London, but the residents fight back...

After a local resident is mugged by a group of young thugs, she reports the crime to the police who quickly arrive to round up the suspects. While they are doing this there is an alien invasion and together the victim and the criminals are forced to fight for their lives, all the time, trying to dodge the police and angry drug dealers.

Together this motley crew of unwilling participants have to muck together with whatever makeshift weapons they can find, in order to wipe out a race of alien life forms who feel nothing for killing as many humans as they possibly can. In a society with little respect for or from the police, the youngsters have to take the law into their own hands in order to save the planet.

If they can stick together and stay alive they might just fight off this deadly invasion...but it's unlikely that would ever happen...

Having watched the trailer for this I was not sure really what to expect from this film, but was rather pleasantly surprised with what director Joe Cornish delivered. The film is a decent watch, with some good acting a surprisingly good special effects. It was difficult to gauge exactly what sort of audience this film was trying to entice, as not everybody in the audience would understand the language and expressions used by the youths in this film, nor the culture of council estate blocks in London.

The acting in this was a lot better than expected too. The biggest name in the film is "Paul" and "Hot Fuzz" hero, Nick Frost who plays the role of the long haired drug dealer "Ron" and does a very good job of it.

Yorkshire born Jodie Whittaker gives a very decent performance as the strong willed "Sam", first a victim of crime, but then one of the leaders of the fight back against the invading aliens. She brings a decent amount of gravity to the role, but also provides a few good lines to add to general comedy of this film. I look forward to seeing more of this talented actress, who has proven that she is well versed in both serious and less serious roles.

The real surprise of this film comes from English/Nigerian actor John Boyega does a fantastic job in the role of "Moses", the leader of the young gang of thugs. His performance is very decent indeed, showing a lot of depth, for somebody who is only 20 years old. He is good in the action scenes, sincere in the ones he needs to be, and also stoic and determined in the causes which his character chooses to take up. It would be good to see a lot more of this talented actor in the future.

Alex Ismail does a good job as the paranoid pot head "Pest", while Leeon Jones performs admirably in his big screen debut, as the determined "Jerome".

This is not a film that everybody will enjoy, and I believe it was aimed at a very British-centric demographic and that a lot of people will not understand half of what is said by the younger members of the cast. That being said it is still a decent watch and the special effects are rather pleasing. There are some good laughs in the film and a couple of tense scenes, but this is no way a horror as advertised.

A group of British 20somethings travel to Australia to be best men at their friends wedding, with hilarious consequences...

When "David" returns from his travels around the Pacific and tells his group of friends that he is to marry "Mia" in Australia, it is decided that they will all go with him across the world to be best men at his wedding.

Not only does "David" have to come to terms with "Mia's" family of which Dad is a senator, mum is a repressed, bored trophy wife, and a lesbian sister, who is rather unconventional, but he also has to keep track of his best men. Friends, who are trying their utmost to ruin his wedding. Add to the mix an extremely troubled and violent drug dealer; most of the Australian senate, "Ramsey", the family pet sheep that seems to mean more to the senator than any other members of his family, enough cocaine to float a small army, and you have the makings for one of the strangest weddings in Australian history.

If he can manage to keep all of these strange elements at bay, then "David" may have a small chance of enjoying the happiest day of his life...

An enjoyable romp of a comedy and romance, but delivered a lot less of the laughs that the trailer promised, while bringing more emotion than one would have expected. Australian born Xavier Samuel, who has had previous outings in "Eclipse" and most recently in controversial historical bio "Anonymous", does a decent enough job as "David" in this one, but you do get the feeling he is somewhat overshadowed by some of the bigger named actors on the screen. Countrywoman Laura Brent gives a decent enough showing as "Mia", but does not have a whole lot to do in one of the leading roles.

Englishman Kris Marshall continues his break away from TV (His role of "Nick" in the hit UK comedy My Family", somewhat holding him back), but he does superbly well in this film, holding it together when it looks all but set to unravel. His portrayal of "Tom", the long time best friend to "David" is comedic, yet emotional, and shows how close the bond of friendship can become over a lifetime. His antics with his fellow best men are superb and his interaction with "Ramsey" provides some of the best laughs of the entire movie.

Kevin Bishop does well as the very reserved and innocent "Graham", making you almost feel sorry for him having to give an impromptu best man speech, while completely off his face. His clumsiness is funny, yet tragic and you cannot hope that one day he might bump into the girl of his dreams. Tim Draxl is the most annoying character you could hope to see on screen in 2012 as the emotional and rather hate-able character of "Luke". He will not let go of his ex girlfriend, who clearly wants nothing to do with him! You honestly want to reach out and throttle him during many parts of the film, which is down to excellent writing by Dean Craig, but the film would be a lot more enjoyable without him.

Australian comedian Rebel Wilson, does a superb job as "Daphne", the pretend lesbian intent on annoying the hell out of her straight laced and respectable senator father. In her first on screen outing since "What to Expect When Expecting", she returns to her native accent and easily delivers the most enjoyable performance of the entire film. It would be good to see this talented comedy actress in more serious roles, as I think she has a lot more to offer.

Singer/Actress Olivia Newton-John, returns to the big screen for the first time since her performance in "Good Luck Chuck" in 2007; putting on a great Aussie accent and giving a decent performance as mother of the bride, "Barbara". Her drug fueled antics are enjoyable and humorous, and she is ably supported by Jonathan Biggins, who does a great job as the always respectable senator, "Jim". The suprise highlight of the movie comes from Steve Le Marquand, who does a fantastic job as drug dealer, "Ray". It would be great to see a lot more of this talented Australian actor.

An enjoyable film, a bit slow in places, but the laughs, when they come are good. The interaction with the sheep is fantastic and the dressing up of the animal will have you giggling for days. This one isn't going to win any acting awards, but its worth the time you spend on it. A fair bit of dirty humour, but they manage to do a decent job with an average script

Two friends decide to have a child without thinking of the repercussions...

A couple of friends who have known each other since they were 19 decide to have a child together but keep their friendship completely platonic, so as not to suffer the effects that they consider having children can have on a relationship.

"Jason" and "Julie" have no interest in each other, but find the idea of having a child in their mid thirties appealing. They see their other married friends going through the trials and tribulations which children bring and strains it takes on their relationships, feeling it is not for them. They simply have a child and then go back to dating other people, while managing to be really good parents and still maintaining a good friendship.

As their son grows older, and the relationships of their friends start falling apart, their feelings for each other increase; unfortunately never at the same time. In time, their not being together causes issues and they see each other only in passing. It seems to be all over, but the child has other ideas...

It's hard to really describe this film, other than "Superbad" meets a Romance, but somehow Director, writer and lead actress, Jennifer Westfeldt, has done a remarkable job of bringing a really good romantic film, with some truly filthy humour, to the big screen. With a cast containing four of the actors who we saw in "Bridesmaids" in 2011, this film was going to be very hit and miss, but this time, they manage to actually be funny, and it makes for a very enjoyable movie!

Adam Scott as "Jason" and Jennifer Westfeldt as "Julie", together are an almost perfect combination for a romantic film. The attraction in the air is palpable, despite them trying to play this down the entire movie, but it's cute, quirky and downright hillarious in places, as the script follows none of the conventions we all know of romcoms. This film skates along the edges of respectability, its humour often from the gutter, but very funny indeed. This couple makes a great pair and I look forward to seeing them together again really soon.

Kristin Wiig and Ben Hamm rekindle their relationship from "Bridesmaids", this time only slightly less dysfunctional than in their last outing. Their roles as "Missy" and "Ben" are emotional and not too funny, but well acted and enjoyable to watch; especially during the meltdown of a relationship based purely on the physical.

Maya Rudolph as "Leslie" and Chris O'Dowd (rather better known for his exploits in the IT Crowd) as "Alex" are a fantastic combination as a couple, always fighting, but bringing a lot of the best laughs and most tender moments to the film and making this a lot more enjoyable. O'Dowd has made a great jump to the big screen, but it was really weird to hear the Irishman with an American accent. Next time he hopefully sticks to his regular dulcet tones.

Megan Fox also makes an appearance in this one and does well in a role which requires absolutely no acting skills. She gets to look pretty, act like a petulant child and pull faces, so this is almost a perfect role for her. On the other hand, Ed Burns, plays the role of "Kurt", a single dad on the rebound with aplomb, and gives the audience somebody to root for.

This is a really nice and enjoyable, feel good film, which will have the audience cringing in places, but rolling about in the aisles at other times. The tempo is great, the laughs in all the right places and there is enough emotion to keep any romance fan on the edge of their seats. It may be like no other rom-com you have ever seen before, but give it a chance and it may well grow on you.

When a young man discovers he has cancer he has to rely on his best friend and a new counselor to pull him through his ordeal.

When "Adam" goes in for a routine check-up after experiencing trouble
breathing while jogging, he is hit by the shock announcement that he has
cancer. Not only does he have to face up to this bombshell, but he also
finds out that his not so supportive girlfriend has been cheating on
him with some artistic types.

As he struggles to come to terms with his own mortality, he is assigned a
rookie counselor "Katherine", whose first assignment is to talk "Adam"
through the biggest crisis of his life, while she is still struggling to
come to terms with her own issues. She has to deal with his anger
towards the illness that is ravaging his body, but also try to keep the
relationship professional, while trying not to fall in love with her
patient.

Adam's best friend "Kyle" is there for him through thick and thin,
always smiling, always joking and often dipping into the
medicinal marijuana, but as the chemo kicks in and some of the people he
meets start falling prey to the illness, even their seemingly
unbreakable relationship comes under strain. A trial operation is
"Adams'" last hope of beating the disease, but he will have to face his
worst fears to come through it.

This has to be one of the finest films of 2011. Two comedic actors in
Joseph Gordon-Levitt who plays "Adam" and Seth Rogan who takes on the
challenges of "Kyle", both facing up one of the hardest topics there is,
with sensitivity and respect.

If you had told me before I saw this film that you could make a film
about cancer in a comedic fashion, I would have thought you were mad,
and also in very bad taste, but these two superb actors, known mainly
for fluffy outings like "500 days of Summer" and "Knocked Up", confront
this mammoth task with a sense of maturity, that shows they have grown
so much as actors.

Yes, there are many, many funny moments in this film, where the audience
will feel guilty for laughing and such a horrid topic; but the way the
film is put across, you feel that more than enough respect is paid to
this horrendous disease, and a vitality to fight it, is the eventual
winner in this piece.

Anna Kendrick does a superb job as "Katherine", pushing aside her roles
in "Twilight", to prove that she really can act. Keep an eye out for her
in her next few showings as I have a feeling there are big things to
come from this Tony nominated actress. Hollywood legend Anjelica Huston
does incredibly well and the mother of "Adam", in her first mainstream
movie since "The Darjeeling Limited" in 2006. It is good to see her
back.

This film is a true cinematic treasure and should be a staple in any
movie collection. I look forward to seeing further collaboration between
these two fine comedic actors, who, although being superb in their
comedic genre, seem to have struck a rich vein of form in a more serious
role.

When an ageing rockstar is invited to
perform some of his greatest hits in the US, a PR man from the record
company is sent to London to make sure he gets him to the Greek Theater.

When an ailing record company in need of a financial pick-up, decides to
put on an anniversary concert at the Greek Theater in LA, they decide
to bring back "Aldous Snow", rather out of control rock star who has
three days to get from London to the venue.

It is left up to a junior PR man from the record company to travel
across the Atlantic to make sure that the out of control rock-star is
actually at the show. Along the way, he manages to indulge in the maniac
lifestyle that goes along with the drug and alcohol fueled ways of the
ageing rocker. At the same time he is trying to keep his relationship
together, while not getting too mixed up in the insanity that is the
life of a world famous rock musician.

Comedian and actor "Russel Brand" takes on the lead role of "Aldous
Snow", playing a very creditable rock star, but it does make you wonder,
just how far from his real life persona, this character really is. He
is a maniac in this role, giving 120% to everything he does, be it good
or bad. He keeps the pace of the movie going along nicely and provides a
number of very good laughs, despite dealing with some quite serious
issues of his own

The very talented Jonah Hill is the poor sap left to babysit the mental
rock musician in his role as "Aaron Green" in his
second collaboration with Russel Brand. He gives a very decent
performance as the harried and chased record exec who has his personal
and professional life turned upside down as he tries to keep up with the
lifestyle of "Aldous Snow". Hill has come a long way since he emerged
on the scene in "Super Bad" and continues to show his versatility as an
actor.

Real life superstar Sean Combs is fantastic in the role of record
producer "Sergio Roma" in his first big screen outing since "Monsters
Ball" in 2001. His Diva like character is awesome and provides a lot of
the laughs needed in this film. Elisabeth Moss does really decently as
the long suffering girlfriend of "Aaron", while Australian born Rose
Burn gives a very convincing performance as the estranged girl friend of
"Aldous".

Keep an eye out for a cameo by metal legend Lars Ulrich, he of Metallica
fame, along with brief glimpses of Pink and Christina Aguilera.

A decent film, with some really good laughs and a number of really
catchy tunes. Brand and Hill work really well off each other and this
one is well worth investing your time in.

In the game of international espionage, its often hard to tell who is chasing who....

For his entire career as a CIA agent, "Paul Shepherdson" chased down and killed a group of Russian spies known as the Cassius Seven, intent on destroying the American way of life. He got them all except one, a phantom known as "Cassius", a man who seemingly vanished into thin air. When the super-spy kills an American senator, Shepherdson is brought back into the fold and asked to track him down.

"Ben Geary" is a young FBI rookie, who made his name by studying and writing a thesis on all that was "Cassius". He is invited to lead the investigation alongside his hero "Shepherdson", but as they get closer and closer to tracking down the maniac killer, the more he begins to suspect that not only he, but also his young family may be in mortal danger.

A double agent with a deadly secret will be unveiled, but on which side of the line they will land, nobody can really tell...

Topher Grace, better known to the world as "Eric Foreman" of "The 70's Show", makes his first major film since "Predators", with a very decent showing as serial killer obsessed FBI Agent "Ben Geary". Together with Hollywood veteran Richard Gere they bring to the screen a very decent spy film; certainly the best Cold War inspired thriller since "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy".

Grace gives a very decent performance, which is creditable, but you still see glimpses of the naughty teenager which brought him onto the world stage. He looks ill at ease in the action scenes, and this film has many, but good gives a good all-round showing, in what is his first lead role on the big screen. He interacts well with Gere and keeps the suspense going throughout the film.

Richard Gere was almost born to play this sort of spy role and does superbly as the vengeful "Paul Shepherdson". He almost seems to live this role and reminds me a lot of his epic performance in "The Jackal". His character is deeply troubled, obsessive and in seek of revenge, but also in some way looking for a normality which he can never have. His darkness is perfect for this film and he does well in the action scenes too.

Hollywood legend Martin Sheen does a fantastic job as CIA Director, "Tom Highland". It is a shame we see this talented actor so infrequently. He really does a great job in this film, while Odette Annabele does an okay job as the young "Natalie Geary". Her move from TV may have been a bit premature, but it would be good to see her in a more serious role in her next outing.

The movie is well paced and will keep you guessing until the very end. The audience gets the feeling that the cat has been let out of the bag very early on in the script, but you'd be wrong! Watch out for a lovely twist. Well worth the effort and a good watch. I look forward to seeing more of Topher Grace on the big screen.

A 20 year journey of a single day, with all the trials and tribulations that come with it...

Two friends, Emma and Dexter meet at college and form a lifelong friendship that is visited once a year on July 15th to see how things are going.

Emma takes the traditional path, struggling as a waitress in a Mexican restaurant, while all the time trying to break into the writing market in London. After a string of failed relationships, all the time pining after her best friend, she finally makes the breakthrough and life seems perfect, if just for one day...

Dexter lives his life to the fullest, all the time in search of the perfect high, but always seeking solace and advice from Emma. Whether the high or low points of his life and career, she is always there for him, even if he doesn't realize it. Eventually it will too be his time to grow up and see what has been in front of him all along.

Based on the best selling novel by David Nicholls and turned into a truly classic movie, by talented Danish director, Lone Scherfig, this has got to be one of the finest movies of 2011 and one of the most moving I have seen in a long time.

The combination of Anne Hathaway as "Emma" and Jim Sturgess as "Dexter" is an inspired choice of cast, with some of the best romantic chemistry you will see. Hathaway has come a hell of a long way since her days in "The Princess Diaries", turning out one fantastic performance after another and this one is something truly special. Her capturing of the essence of the character over a 20 year period is nothing short of spectacular, and one can only guess how good a performance she will give in her next starring role.

London born Jim Sturgess also gives a fine performance in this film, but plays very much second fiddle next to Hathaway. His embodiment of "Dexter" from 1988 and for the next twenty years is tragic, moving and so, so enjoyable that in places you find it hard to distinguish if this talented Englishman is actually acting at all. His embracing of the excesses of the 80's is fantastic, but I think it is the low points in the life of "Dexter" where he truly hits his best form. Together the couple make this a phenomenally enjoyable film, an emotional roller-coaster, with the audience, all the time hoping for a happy ending.

Ken Scott as the father of "Dexter" gives a truly inspired performance, blowing you away each and every time he is on screen, giving possibly the finest performance of his distinguished career. From one tragedy in his life to the next, he deals with it in his own stoic way, ably assisted by Patricia Clarkson who does a sterling job as "Alison", the mother of the troubled young "Dexter".

This story has it all. Romance, drama, comedy and enough tragedy to keep you reaching for the tissues for a lot of the film. I truly did enjoy this movie from start to finish, well worth at least one watch. Not one for the kids.

A engaged couple cannot seem to take the final step, and keep putting off the wedding as things in life crop up...

One year after a romantic meeting Tom makes the perfect proposal to his girlfriend Violet and the ultimate wedding looks to be on the cards; but unexpected events keep preventing the the couple from tying the knot.

Chef, "Tom" has a thriving career at a top restaurant in San Francisco, but is willing to give it all up when "Violet" receives the invitation to take up her ultimate job in rural Michigan as a psychology major. They decide to push back the wedding and after "Violet" receives an extension on her contract, plans change once again.

As Tom is less and less happy with his life and his lack of career, his mental state deteriorates, as he, all the time comparing his life to the happy marriage of his best friend and his sister in law. The years go by and things get tense, with the couple discovering an engagement can only last so long...

Although somewhat enjoyable, this film was just flat and not particularly memorable. I am not sure if the script writers set out to write a romantic comedy or a romantic drama. There were a few laughs in the story, but they could have done so much more with this film. There was a distinct lack of chemistry between the leading players, that made you wish the director would have focused more on the smaller parts who had tons of the stuff.

Jason Segel, who has brought us such crackers as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Bad Teacher", takes the lead role as "Tom Solomon" in this one and shows without a shadow of a doubt, that his talents are best served in true comedic roles. He seems to lack the depth of character to pull of this deeply disturbed and macabre role; but does create a few laughs and, although a truly pathetic character, does get the audience behind his plight. His mustache during his "meltdown" period is one of the finest you would ever hope to see.

British actress Emily Blunt has had a fantastic last few years and, although let down slightly by the script, delivers a very decent showing as "Violet Barnes". She works perfectly with her group of colleagues in the film, but the chemistry is sadly missing from her relationship. Having seen her recently challenged in "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen", you got the feeling that this was well within her talent scope. I would like to see her return to more serious roles, but she does well in this one.

The combination of Chris Pratt and Allison Brie, as "Alix and Suzie", the seemingly perfect couple, is a breath of fresh air to this film, and makes you wonder why the makers did not spend more time focusing on this pair. Rhys Ifans does a spectacular job as the rather dodgy, yet mysterious older mentor "Winton Childs", while Lauren Weedman is probably the highlight of the film as the feisty "Chef Sally".

The film fails to really get off the ground, trying hard to be a romance or a comedy, but never a really effective combination of the two. It dragged in places, with long periods where the audience might become bored, but did have its odd comedic elements and was not a total loss. It's worth the watch, but don't expect too much

An international terrorist tries to take over the world with a deadly chemical weapon and only the GI Joes can stop him...

When a weapon which was developed especially for the US army lands up in the wrong hands it is left up to a group of elite soldiers, "GI Joes" to stop the world being destroyed by a paranoid madman.

"Duke" and "Ripcord" are two regular soldiers with dreams of joining the air force and being more than just numbers on the payroll. When they are tasked with delivering a top secret weapon to an unknown location, their column is ambushed and all of the comrades gunned down. When "Duke" discovers he knows the leader of the attackers, he is determined to foil their plans and discover why the woman to whom he was engaged, has chosen to fight for the dark side.

Together with the rest of the GI Joes they have to fight against one of the most daunting forces in history, with limitless funds and no less ambition for evil and revenge. If they can pull out all the stops, maybe, just maybe the world will survive...

A film filled with superstars but unfortunately let down by a rather mediocre script. With Channing Tatum still honing his acting craft in the role of "Duke", it is abundantly clear that an action role was not really meant from him. Thankfully he has proven with almost every film that has passed since this one that he is improving, but in this he is nothing more than average.

Comedian Marlon Wayons, who rose to fame in the likes of "White Chicks" and "The Ladykillers" takes on the role of "Ripcord", a squash-buckling and talented soldier who wants nothing more than to serve his country and fly fast planes. He gets both his wishes, but, although a lot better than Tatum is still not truly suited for this role. Hollywood regular Dennis Quaid does well as "General Hawk", but seems to lack the conviction that would make his role creditable.

Sienna Miller does well in the roles of "Ana" and "The Baroness", the unwilling evil character in this film, conned into a life of crime and terror after the tragic death of her soldier brother. Her role is action packed, as is the entire film, which may be its one saving grace. Joseph Gordon-Levitt does decently as "Rex", while English born Christopher Eccleston does some very decent work as ""McCullen". Arnold Vosloo, he of "The Mummy" fame is probably the highlight of the movie in the role of cold blooded killer "Zartan", with another sparkling performance by Rachel Nichols, who plays "Scarlet".

The film is full of action and some wonderful special effects. The script could have been decent, as the concept was good, but just seemed to fall a little flat. If you have two hours to kill, then this is not the worst film you will ever see, but its nothing special.

The most famous pre-historic characters are back, but this time it really could be the end of the world...

Manny (The Mammoth), Diego (The Sabre Toothed Tiger) and Sid (The Sloth), set out on their fourth great adventure, this time as their continent destroys itself and the three friends, are forced to not only for their very survival, but also to save the lives of their family.

Add in Sid's Granny, a rather small iceberg and some rather dastardly, if confused Ice Age pirates and you have the making of their most perilous adventures yet. Will their efforts be enough to halt the ever advancing wall of rock which threatens to destroy their world and all whom they hold dear.

It was bound to happen, but finally the makers of this very popular series have sold out to the commercial prospects that these films could bring and delivered Ice Age 4, which has to be aimed at audiences below the age of 10!

The main characters "Manny" (voice of Ray Romano), "Diego" (voice of Denis Leary) and "Sid" (voice of John Leguizamo) are their same old loveable selves which have brought so much joy to both young and old in the first three films of the series, but the makers have limited their roles and added in a lot of new - less exciting characters to ruin the franchise.

"Ellie"(voice of Queen Latifah) is once again superb, but plays such a tiny role in this film, that she is unable to truly stamp her talent onto this lackluster script. "Peaches"(voice of Keke Palmer), plays probably the major role in this movie and does not do it justice at all. Her teenage troubles are tedious and shallow, and I think it was a mistake to let her character take such a major role. Her on again, off again fixation with "Ethan", (voice of Audrey Graham) is tired and a little sad in places, trying to teach lessons which will be lapped up by kids, but will be yawned at by anyone older. The only highlight here is that "Ethan" really does remind you of a very young Val Kilmer in the rather more famous "Top Gun".

The introduction of the Pirates into the script is an unwanted death knell for the chances of this film being taken seriously, but the role of "Captain Gutt" (Voice of Game of Thrones superstar Peter Dinklage) is one of the few highlights to come from this motley crew. Admittedly they do deliver some decent one liners which do bring a few adult laughs.

"Paul" stars, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are good as the characters of "Flynn" and "Buck", while Jennifer Lopez is respectable as "Shira". The role of "Granny (voice of Wanda Sykes) is a lovely change from the mundane action of the story, and it would have been a lot better if she had a far larger role.

The film was boring for anybody above the age of 12, the story pedantic and a very long way from the glory days of Ice Age 1-3. The script seemed to be lacking and the characters we have grown to love since their first outing in 2002, just seemed flat. I did not enjoy this film at all, but the hordes of 5-7 year olds who invaded the cinema absolutely loved it. Take the family to see this one, they will be talking about it for days.

For serious movie-goers this is a big let down, but keep an eye out for the Simpsons cartoon before the start of the film which was a real treat.
