I wonder if anyone will remember in few years, that Bing was a search engine by Microsoft…

How does a company like Microsoft overhaul their search engine and quickly come up with a product like Bing to compete with Google’s long-standing and highly successful search product? Google says that Bing has been copying their search results, and actually set a trap to catch the competing search engine in the act.

The results of that trap have been published in an article by Danny Sullivan over at Search Engine Land this morning, and the evidence collected against Microsoft looks rather damning.

For example, Bing would somehow pick up results for misspelled terms that Google had planted, though they did not have the built-in corrections that Google had engineered. Additionally, Google planted some highly unlikely results for specific search terms, and low and behold, Bing would somehow subsequently start showing those same results.

“What we saw in today’s story was a spy-novelesque stunt to generate extreme outliers in tail query ranking,” Harry Shum, Bing’s Corporate Vice President wrote in a post on his company’s blog Tuesday morning. “It was a creative tactic by a competitor, and we’ll take it as a back-handed compliment. But it doesn’t accurately portray how we use opt-in customer data as one of many inputs to help improve our user experience.”

“We use over 1,000 different signals and features in our ranking algorithm,” Shum explained. “A small piece of that is clickstream data we get from some of our customers, who opt-in to sharing anonymous data as they navigate the web in order to help us improve the experience for all users.”

That sounds like a lovely explanation from Microsoft, however I question that there was even one anonymous user out there that would have used the Google-planted keyword “tarsorrhaphy” for any reason. And suddenly a Microsoft-monitored individual just happened to type “indoswiftjobinproduction” or “mbzrxpgjys” while Google was performing this test? Not likely, in my opinion.

There may be a landmark infringement lawsuit brewing here. Microsoft better start thinking of some better excuses, otherwise the future of their Bing search product may very well be at stake.

Θέλω να ανοίξω ένα τυροπιτάδικο! Επειδή όμως δεν έχω λεφτά, θα ήθελα όσοι περνούν έξω από τον χώρο που σκοπεύω να ανοίξω το τυροπιτάδικο, να μου πληρώνουν τις τυρόπιτες που δεν μπορώ προς το παρόν να τους πουλήσω, έτσι ώστε σε κάποιο χρονικό διάστημα (π.χ. ύστερα από 2 χρόνια) να μπορώ να τους πουλώ τυρόπιτες (τις οποίες φυσικά και πάλι θα πληρώνουν)!!!

Όχι δεν είμαι βλαμμένος, απλά προσπαθώ να ακολουθήσω την ίδια πετυχημένη πρακτική των κοινοπραξιών που έχουν αναλάβει τα έργα οδοποιίας στο εθνικό μας δίκτυο και εισπράττουν διόδια για έργα που δεν έχουν ακόμα κατασκευάσει.

παρασκευή πολύ νόστιμων εδεσμάτων, όταν θα είμαι βέβαια έτοιμος!!!

Ή γιατί οι πολίτες που έχουν όρεξη (και δίκιο) πρέπει να μάθουν να διαμαρτύρονται προς τη σωστή κατεύθυνση.

Όπως διαβάζεις τις τελευταίες ημέρες, έχει αρχίσει να κλιμακώνεται το “κίνημα” κατά των διοδίων, με δράσεις εμφατικές πολιτών που πάνε κι ανοίγουν τα διόδια επειδή δεν θέλουν να πληρώνουν. Όπως γίνεται συνήθως όταν Έλληνες διαμαρτύρονται μαζικά, ο καθένας έχει τα δικά του, προσωπικά κίνητρα. Άλλοι διαμαρτύρονται επειδή η δουλειά τους τους αναγκάζει να περνάνε τα διόδια κάθε μέρα, και δεν μπορούνε να πληρώνουν συνέχεια. Άλλοι διαμαρτύρονται επειδή τα διόδια ενός αυτοκινητόδρομου συχνά χρηματοδοτούν την κατασκευή κάποιου άλλου, κι αυτό το θεωρούν άδικο. Άλλοι διαμαρτύρονται επειδή είναι του ΚΚΕ, και πιστεύουν ότι το concept των διοδίων και το να πληρώνει οποιοσδήποτε οτιδήποτε ποτέ είναι λάθος (οι ξένοι, ας πούμε, που έχουνε διόδια πιο ακριβά απ’ τα δικά μας, προφανώς βλάκες είναι). Άλλοι είναι ο Γκλέτσος. Ο καθένας έχει, τέλος πάντων τους λόγους του.

 

Κάτι κοινό που έχουν όμως όλοι: Άδικο.

Πάντα υπάρχει αυτή η αναβλητικότητα στην πειθαρχία, πάντα πρέπει πρώτα να γίνει κάτι άλλο για να δεχθεί ο Έλλην να υπακούσει στους νόμους του κράτους (του). Πάντα κάτι φταίει, πάντα κάτι έξω και πέρα από αυτόν είναι λάθος, και μέχρι να διορθωθεί, δικαιούται να είναι λάθος και ο ίδιος.

Είναι μια ιδιαίτερη μορφή δημοκρατίας αυτή που υπάρχει στο μυαλό του Έλληνα, μια μορφή αυθαίρετη, στην οποία ο πολίτης δεν έχει απολύτως καμία υποχρέωση, έχει μόνο δικαιώματα. Επίσης είναι μια μορφή ανύπαρκτη, που δεν μπορεί να λειτουργήσει στον πραγματικό κόσμο, και που αν υιοθετηθεί από κάποιο κράτος μόνο στην πτώχευση και την κατάρρευση μπορεί να το οδηγήσει.

Αν τα διόδια είναι άδικα διαμαρτύρεσαι και αγωνίζεσαι εκεί που δικαιούσαι: Στην πολιτική. Ζαλίζεις τ’ αυτιά του βουλευτή σου. Κάνεις συγκεντρώσεις διαμαρτυρίας έξω από το Υπουργείο. Ξεμπροστιάζεις μία-μία τις σκοτεινές συμβάσεις του κράτους με τους εργολάβους σε μπλογκζ και σόσιαλ μύδια, με τα ονόματα των Υπουργών που υπέγραψαν και τα ονόματα των media που ανήκουν στους συγκεκριμένους εργολάβους, ή ό,τι νομίζεις τέλος πάντων. (Κι αυτό υποχρέωσή σου είναι, πολίτη). Κι αν όλα αυτά δεν πιάσουν, απαντάς στις κάλπες. Αυτά είναι τα όπλα σου, δεν έχει άλλα. Τα Γκλέτσικα τα νταηλίκια “εγώ δε μπλερώνω” και “εγώ θα γκαπνίζω” δεν είναι δημοκρατικά δικαιώματα, είναι καταχρήσεις μιας ελευθερίας που δεν σου ανήκει.

Ή, για να το θέσω με όρους πιο κατανοητούς: Κάνε πρώτα τις διαμαρτυρίες στο Υπουργείο, φλόμωσε το Βουλευτή σου στα τηλέφωνα, διάβασε και μάθε ποιος ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ υπέγραψε τις συγκεκριμένες συμβάσεις, ψήφισε μαζί με όλους τους συμπολίτες σου για να στείλεις τους υπευθύνους στο σπιτάκι τους, και μετά κάνε το Γκλέτσο στα διόδια.

Κοίτα πράγμα όμως: Θα δεις ότι τότε δεν θα χρειάζεται.
