Always investigate first. Typing names, phone numbers and address on Google search to verify the information is as easy as 1-2-3 these days- there's really no excuse for one to fall into the trap of scammers...

This is an amusing email if not a pathetic one. It is so badly written that you wouldn't believe it for a second! (We did not change a thing in the letter.) Then again some desperate people probably would.

Would you reply to an old woman who claims to have been in investments and "co-oporate" (corporate?) business and not know how to spell or create grammatically correct sentences? Perhaps English is not her first language. But if she has so much money to give, couldn't she afford a personal secretary to write for her?

Seriously if you have so much money to give wouldn't you just arrange for your lawyer to present you with charitable institutions where you could donate your money? Why go through all the trouble of spamming random people you do not know via email to give away your money? It doesn't make sense. Not logical at all... Spare us the drama!

This one says they got our contact info from an internet directory. Really?! Or perhaps an insider from Yahoo! or elsewhere sold our email and sends this lucrative, tempting offer that sounds hokey from the get go.

How emails such as this one keeps ending up in our inbox instead of spam folder still boggles us. Clearly, the free email services we use (Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Lycos, etc) should have accountability in the matter. They have the power and ability to filter these emails yet they keep coming in to our inboxes...

We are also puzzled as to how many people still fall for this kind of scam. These scammers exist because they are most likely conning 1 in every 100 person who responds to the email. To them that is worth something.

Awareness is key. Spread the word: When you get a tempting email offer, search for the "keywords" online to find out if other people are talking about it or the email is listed on sites such as this website as a scam.

DO NOT RESPOND to the scam email. Doing so will only be a charade of deceit, lies and conning at your expense. In the end, you lose. It is not worth the risk.

Fake Email Scam from 'Rosaline Mentrone' of "Fidel Securities Inc"

Be wary of anybody who would send you a note that starts with "Hello Dear" when you do not know the person. Furthermore when it ends with "My Good friend" when you're not friends with the person. Also, stay clear from anyone who still misspells "receive" in a supposed formal letter. Ever heard of spell check?

We googled "Rosaline Mentrone" and "Fidel Securities Inc" and neither one has online records of any kind. If you are in fact dealing with a legitimate contact, they should have an online presence of some sort. There were none here.

The letter also sounded like we already had previous contact with her when this is her first email to us. We were almost curious to check on the phone number and actually call but we don't have the time to play along if someone would answer. Perhaps a reader here might be brave enough to confront this person. Please be aware though. Do not fall into the trap! This is a scam email.

This is Mr. Kingsley Sabata Manager/ a staff in one of the major leading
bank in South Africa. In my Bank I discovered an abandoned large sum
of money (US$14.7M) belonging to one of our late Foreign Customer,
since 2002 .

The owner of this account is Dr. George Brumley, an American National, also
a businessman based in South Africa, was involved in air crash along with
his family. And he died since 2003 in an air crash along with

2009 Wishes!

We have many wishes for 2009 but all rather 'wishful thinking' such as world peace! Who would not want that? So close to achieving it, yet so far... End of recession for America and its neighboring countries, in Europe, Asia and elsewhere. End of poverty as we know it! How about end of calamities and catastrophes around the world? Forces of nature that we have no control of, so close yet so far... talk about impossibilities.

But how about the end of these scammers operating online??! We believe it CAN happen if only Yahoo, Gmail, MSN and other web-based email services will think about its customers for once and not sell-out to these false online companies/people who are behind the online scams! We really think it gets into our email inboxes and not on our junk mails because Yahoo, Gmail, MSN, etc allows it to be there! It's a paid email for all we know... How else would it end up there with their so-called smart filtering system?!

Anyways, so long as we get these email scams, we will keep posting them and expose it as such.
