Nowadays laser treatments are being used for all sorts of dermatological conditions… sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. So how does laser scar remover measure up? Does it actually work? Well, here’s my story…

My Laser Scar Remover Review
Several years back, I was in a severe auto accident that left me entire body scarred – and to a lesser degree – my face. Since then I have tried nearly every product and procedure to try and improve my scars. Before I share with you my results, here are some important things you need to realize about laser scar remover:

• Different lasers for different problems – Some lasers are helpful with discoloration, while others may benefit raised bumps. For example, 585-595-nm pulsed dye lasers are used to treat raised scars, including keloids. Meanwhile V-beam lasers are known to be helpful for some types of redness. However not every doctor has every laser, so be wary of doctors that might try and push one on you that really isn’t the best for your needs.

• Consider the costs – Many people don’t understand why doctors charge so much for laser skin treatments. Well I wish they were cheaper to, but the high cost is at least in part due to how much the machine costs the doctors office… anywhere from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands each. In a nutshell, laser treatments unfortunately aren’t cheap, so please keep that in mind.

• Negotiate the price – This is something many people never think to do! Remember the price of everything is negotiable, including laser scar remover! At your consultation you should ask for a discount. If you really stick to your guns and emphasize that you simply cannot afford treatment unless X amount is taken off, most doctors will come down on the price at least a little bit. From their point of view, it’s better to have a slightly less profitable customer than to loose the customer altogether.

• Ask about guarantees – I don’t know of any doctor that would offer a money back guarantee on laser scar remover, but some will offer additional treatments for free if the first series doesn’t work. For example, if they say the scars should be gone after three treatments but they’re still there after the third treatment, sometimes they will agree to do additional treatments for free. Only some places do this and you need to negotiate these terms up front and in writing before agreeing to any laser treatment plan.

My results?
The scar I was most concerned with was a nasty surgical incision on my abdomen. The doctor did a scar revision surgery (to cut out the wideness of the scar) and a few weeks later, he did one laser treatment to help with the redness. This particular type of laser felt like a rubber band snapping the scar during treatment – it hurt but wasn’t unbearable. Afterwards it scabbed over and eventually revealed new skin that was less red.

I’m actually quite satisfied – my scar isn’t perfect but it’s a huge improvement (which is great considering I only had one treatment). Someday I may get additional laser scar remover treatments to even further improve it, but for now, I’m happy with the results. Laser isn’t the best for every type of scar, but for many types I now realize it can be very beneficial.

Your results?
Everyone has different skin and no two scars are like, so we all heal differently. I actually have very scar-prone olive skin so I’m not an ideal candidate. For those with lighter skin pigment, odds are that your laser scar remover results will be better than mine. That being said, there’s no way to predict the outcome. Your best bet is to talk it over thoroughly with a laser treatment specialist to find out what you should expect for your results.

Q: Have you ever heard of honey nutmeg scar remover? I’m trying to gather information on it and find out if works?

A: To be honest, this is not something I’ve heard of before. That being said, I’m a huge fanatic of natural remedies, so I researched this to get to the bottom of it. Here’s what I found…

It’s for acne scars
From what I have been able to find, it is used on the face and is touted as an acne scar remover. It is reportedly applied to help heal new acne scars.

It should not be used if you’re allergic to honey or nutmeg
This should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: if you are allergic to either honey or nutmeg, it’s definitely something you should NOT try!

Here are the traditional directions
According to a video I found, here are the instruction:

• 1 teaspoon of honey
• 1 teaspoon of nutmeg

Mix them together in a small bowl or dish. Apply to face and leave on for twenty minutes. After that wash it off thoroughly with cool water.

I personally have not tried this honey and nutmeg scar remover myself, so I don’t know if it works nor do I know if it is completely safe or not (therefore I am not advocating it in anyway). So if you want to try it, please proceed at your own risk. Good luck!

A: It comes as no surprise that more and more people are opting for natural scar removal remedies, rather than using harsh chemicals and expensive lasers. For those that prefer a treatment from mother nature instead of the doctors office, fortunately you’re in luck! There are a few natural ingredients which are known to be very helpful in combating scars.

Let’s take a look at a few of the most popular natural scar removers:

Vitamin E Oil
There is some disagreement out there as to whether or not vitamin E is a good way to treat scars. If it is a brand new scar, vitamin E might make your scarring worse. However if it’s a scar you’ve had a while, then you may want to consider it.

I personally know someone that swears by this natural scar remover. He began using it a couple months after his open heart surgery; applying it to the scar one or two times a day. After a few months, the scar had practically vanished. While I’ve personally not tried this natural scar remover yet, it sounds like there are many who have great success with it.

Allium Cepa (Onion) Bulb Extract
This one is probably considered to be the most effective natural scar remedy used today. In fact, it is so effective that it is the primary ingredient in Mederma brand – the most popular scar remover product in America. This ingredient has been researched thoroughly for quite some time now and being that there is a large body of clinical research out there which supports its effectiveness, it’s definitely a scar removal product that’s worth checking out.

Reportedly, this active ingredient is said to improve collagen organization and has antiproliferative effects on skin cells. The one drawback about Mederma scar treatment and other remedies which us onion bulb extract is that it does have a mild onion scent (since that is what it’s made out of) but it is so mild I don’t think it would bother many people.

Tea Tree Oil
Similar to vitamin E, this is one of those natural scar removal remedies which has mixed reviews. I have read a number of reviews and although I have not tried this one yet personally, it does sound like tea tree oil cream and products have potential. The typical course of treatment involves rubbing the oil on the scar a few times per day until it has vanished. It sounds like it is most effective on newer scars.

Silicone scar sheets have very effective for many people but the funny thing is scientists don’t know exactly how or why they work!

History
The use of silicone sheets for scars was first discovered in the 1980′s and it was actually by accident. A doctor was using a silicone sheet in an attempt to have the pressure be applied more evenly to the scar. He discovered that it had an unintended side effect – the appearance of the scar appeared to heal better!

Today’s Use
Now the use of silicone is very common in scar treatments. There are even products sold at the drugstore which use this technology, like Neosporin Scar Solution. However most sizes of these are rather small so they aren’t always ideal for surgical incisions. There are a handful of specialty medical companies that make large pure silicone sheets. Although a prescription is not necessary to purchase them, you will have to ask your pharmacist to order them for you simply because there isn’t a huge demand for them so the big drugstores rarely, if ever carry them in stock. Alternately, you can buy them online (which is how I bought mine after my accident).

What Types of Scars Do They Work Best On?
Generally, the sheets are known to be most effective for raised scars, including hypertrophic scarring. When it comes to that ugly dark red discoloration we get, it is not know to be very effective. But that’s not a bad thing, because there are many different scar remover treatments available – like laser skin resurfacing – which you can get later on to help with the discoloration.

The #1 Treatment Tip
Besides consulting your dermatologist, the number one tip you should follow is starting treatment early. You see scar tissue actually is harder to treat the older it is. As it ages, not only will it harden but the discoloration becomes deeper. This is why they often say it’s best to start your treatment regimen within six months from your surgery and even sooner if your doctor says it’s okay to do so.

You could say I know a thing or two about surgical scar healing to say the least! I was in a severe auto accident and besides having my body damaged from the impact, I also had to endure dozens and dozens of surgeries to put myself back together. And of course as a result I developed a plethora of scars from head to toe.

I’ll share with you some things I learned during the process:

1. Vitamin E
We’ve all heard about the vitamin E skin benefits. But what you may not know is that rule doesn’t apply before and immediately after surgery. This is why most doctors tell their patients to not consume vitamin E in the two or three weeks before surgery (assuming your surgery is a planned one). Why? Because it has anti-platelet qualities. This means that it inhibits the health type of blood clotting which is necessary.

So why do some claim it is good for scarring? While, it evidence points towards it definitely being beneficial (usually in the topical form) but that is not immediately after surgery. Rather, doctors usually don’t recommend that for a few weeks after. Consult your doctor though to find out for sure, because I’m not a doctor.

2. Healthy Diet
When you are going through your healing process, your skin needs the right building blocks to repair itself properly. Due to various medical conditions some of us have different dietary needs, so check with your doctor to find out what is optimal for you. For most of us, this consists of an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. And no, supplements are not a replacement for those! You see they use synthetic forms of vitamin C and others, so it’s best to consume them in the natural food form.

3. Using Scar Removal Treatment
Once your doctor says it’s okay to do so, you will want to start on a regimen of some sort of scar remover. There are many different products on the market – from silicone scar sheets to scar cream – and to be honest there’s no “one size fits all” answer. What’s work good for some people may not work best for another.

So your best bet will be to ask your surgeon what he or she recommends. The two most popular ingredients nowadays seem to be onion bulb extract (allium cepa) and silicone gel or cream. No one knows exactly why those things work, but they do for many people.

With how advanced the human body is, you would think we would have the ability to repair skin damage flawlessly. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Darker Skin = Worse Scarring
I have very dark skin for being caucasian. Even the parts of my body that have never seen sun look tan when compared to average. Because my skin has more pigment, I scar easier. Generally speaking, this is the same for all ethnicities whereas darker skin equals a higher chance of scar tissue formation.

One of the most annoying things about this for me is that any little burn or cut I get stays with me forever. So not only do I have little nick, cut, burn, and scrape from childhood permanently preserved on my skin, but I also have tons of surgical scars from a car accident I was in… and they’re not pretty!

What causes scarring?
Well I am no doctor, but from what I understand, they are the result of overactive healing. Or in other words, our bodies going into overdrive while it’s repairing our skin. This is why scars often end up raised and bumpy – because your body is producing excess collagen and cells in the area that was injured.

Why are scars darker?
So if it wasn’t bad enough having our skin by lumpy from it, we also have to have discoloration. Initially it may be red, which will eventually darken over time and turn to brown. This process often takes anywhere from one year to a year and a half until it has fully “aged” to what it’s going to permanently look like.

What causes the excess pigment is too much blood flow to the area. This is part of the “overactive healing” where our bodies are pumping too much blood to the damaged area.

What causes keloid scarring?
This is something that unfortunately the medical community hasn’t been able to answer yet. However it appears there is a strong genetic component involved. The odd part is even if someone is prone to them, they may only develop keloids in one area (such as their ears) but not on other parts of their body.

What is hypertrophic scarring?
These are similar to keloids, the main difference being that that they don’t grow outside of the boundaries of the scar (keloids can grow and protrude out into a growth). Both of these types are the result of too much collagen production during the healing process. But again, the exact cause of each is not exactly known other than the suspected genetic culprit.

Best Scar Treatment?
Although it’s impossible to make them completely disappear, fortunately there are various techniques and products which can improve their appearance.

Personally, when it came to my surgical scars, I had the best results using a silicone scar sheet that I wore over the area for a couple months. It’s not known exactly how the silicone helps but no one doubts its effectiveness. There are also scar removal treatment creams that use silicone as a primary ingredient. The benefit of using it in the cream form is that they can combine it with other proven ingredients in order to maximize your results.

The most frustrating part is after we win our war against acne, we are still left with these battle scars of discoloration and bumpy skin. Well the good news is they don’t have to be permanent. But not all of us have the same skin type. With so many different acne scar removal products on the market, it’s important to educate yourself about scarring so you can make an informed decision.

I remember a time when I had flawless skin, and I didn’t have to worry about investing in scar remover products. “Oh the memories.” It seemed like when I reached my mid twenties I started seeing these clusters of pimples on different parts on my face. So much so, that even my sister had asked me why I had been breaking out. Little did I know that I had developed something called adult acne. To my surprise I didn’t think such a condition existed. I thought I had passed that awkward stage in my life when I was a teenager where I would be battling with temperamental skin. This example goes to show you that we are always having to deal with some sort of skin ailment.

Acne Scar Treatments
After I had a number of breakouts I noticed that some of the acne although was no longer red and inflamed it did leave something behind. This being darker colored scars. In my attempts in trying to get rid of these scars I tried a variety of Acne Scar Remover Products, and to no avail I still had no success. Then someone told me about treating acne before it makes it appearance on the face was one way I could prevent this from happening again. They suggested I use benzoyl peroxide. Although I was a little hesitant I decided to give it a try. Not only did I see a decrease in how often I got acne, but I noticed that my skin wasn‘t as oily either. Less is more, and if I have less acne to begin with I decrease my chances of having to find a scar remover product to help get rid of those discolorations on my skin.

Nutrient Rich Skin Care
Our skin needs certain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in order for it to be the best it can be. So whatever cream or serum you choose to use daily, there area few ingredients you should look for that you will want it to contain.

Skin remodeling copper peptides are known to be beneficial in more than one way. These valuable minerals help the skin’s regenerating process as well as heal damaged tissue, thus making it an important acne scar removal products. This is the reason why it is used in so much in skincare, because it actually works with the body’s own natural healing process to help reconstruct and restore the skin.

Another ingredient which may help acne scars is vitamin C. This vitamin has been shown to not only help with healing damaged scar tissue, but it also helps promote the growth of collagen, and works to exfoliate the skin. These are essential factors in regards to scar remover treatments because it takes care of two problems at once which is easier on your wallet as well.

In addition to these, there are countless other nutrients and vitamins which can benefit the skin, such as vitamin E, alpha lipoic acid, and retinol A.

Chemical Peels
Another great product that has been shown to give people desirable results in their treatment of acne scars is alpha hydroxy, which is a family of acids that is commonly used in peels, the most common of them being glycolic acid. This treatment is able to deeply penetrate the skin, repair skin as well and reveal newer fresher skin which helps to minimize the size and visibility of the damaged skin

However please not that I am not a licensed dermatologist by any means so consulting with one would be wise when considering acne scar removal products.

Not only are they more likely to occur with this skin type, but they’re also a lot harder to get rid of.

So what’s the best acne scar treatment for people like us? Well, everyone is different, so what works for one may not necessarily work for another.

//

Everyone has those annoying pimples that seem to make their unannounced as well as uninvited appearance on the face during many of the most inconvenient times possible. I remember one time I had this speech I had to give in front of the class and that same exact day I had this big zit on the middle of my forehead. Although it may not have been noticeable to others, it sure was noticeable to me. Being that I also have olive skin, I knew that if I didn’t take the correct steps, this pimple would most likely turn into a scar. Therefore, I knew I would have to invest time and money to take corrective measures to prevent this from happening. I would have to try a variety of scar remover treatments in hopes of solving this problem.

What Dark Skin Scars More
The reason why people with darker skin tones have more of a tendency to have acne scars is because their skin has a higher concentration of pigmentation than the average lighter skinned person. During the healing process from a breakout, the skin heals at a faster pace then normal and causes the skin that is healed to be darker in color then the rest of the skin. Although people with lighter skin also have the same healing process, their skin is lighter, therefore when it heals the scar may be lighter in color, making it less noticeable.

How To Treat Scars On Dark Skin
There are a number of ways that a person with darker skin can help treat acne scars. One way is to incorporate an array of scar remover products and techniques. Using acne soap is a great way to treat acne and is feasible for anyone to be able to work into their everyday skin care routine. Although there are a number of acne soap products available on the online industry today, the best one’s contain a key ingredient called glycolic acid. This invaluable ingredient helps by penetrating the skin and repairs damaged skin cells as well as rejuvenates the skin.

Another acne scar remover product for people with darker skin tones is azelaic acid. This treatment comes in many forms, from gels to creams. This treatment is said to help with the over pigmentation process that occurs in people with darker skin after breakouts. The skin then heals and the end result is scarring.

Laser Scar Treatments
Lasers can be another effective method for people with darker skin. Make sure to do all of your research prior to having this treatment performed. This treatment is effective for people with darker skin tones because these laser treatments are able to get underneath several layers of the skin, where many times the scars reside. Once the damaged skin cells are removed, some of the discoloration will diminish as well, and newer fresher skin will be revealed. The one drawback with this method is it can be costly.

Choosing
Now that you have read a lot of information in regards to what acne scar remover products are effective in the treatment of people with darker skin tones, you can now decide if any of the above are ideal for your skin care needs. But remember to consult with your doctor first and foremost to obtain the best results. Just because one treatment may work for another person does not mean it will be the right one for you.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

It is imperative to know and understand your skin type and body’s chemistry. Taking that information into account will help you decide which treatment options will work best for you so you can eliminate acne scars once and for all.

//
google_ad_client = "pub-1745067910544067"; /* Red 336x280, created 9/7/09 */ google_ad_slot = "7563917752"; google_ad_width = 336; google_ad_height = 280;

For example, I for one know that my skin is incredibly sensitive, so I strive for products without any harsh chemicals and ones that are made especially for sensitive skin.

People tend to favor acne scar remover products that have a nice balance to them. This means that combining essential ingredients such as scientifically engineered chemicals with all natural products are amongst the products that seem to work best. For instance, the high tech ingredient might help with getting rid of the blemish, while the natural ingredient helps to alleviate and reduce the likelihood that the skin will be irritated.

Laser treatment involves strong lasers that create various multitudes of wavelengths that control intensity. This tool can be used to remold scar tissue and help alleviate the redness associated with healed acne lesions. There are different types of laser treatments all of which are determined by what skin condition is being treated. Actual skin tissue may be removed with more powerful treatments that incorporate carbon dioxide into the laser. Depending on the severity, sometimes only one treatment is needed to achieve the desired results. Laser treatment is known to be an extremely effective technique.

Vitamin C is amongst one of the best all natural resources for our body especially when it comes to skin care. This vitamin helps to penetrate the skin, and may actually help exfoliate scar tissue caused by acne breakouts. This process allows newer skin to resurface and gives your skin a healthier even glow. That is why this valuable vitamin could be helpful for old acne blemishes.

Gycolic acid products as well as peels that contain this active ingredient also seem to be a beneficial acne scar remover treatment. This one of a kind treatment is able to deeply penetrate the skin, reduce the appearance of scars as well as help create smoother and softer skin texture. People who have used these treatments have noticed variable differences in their skin, the results were affected by how deep the scars were and how long they had been in existence.

Microdermabrasion treatments use aluminum oxide crystals along with a vacuum that helps excavate and remove dull lifeless skin on the surface. Skin discolorations may become slightly lighter and less noticeable with continued use of this treatment. This technique is a very handy tool in the skin care industry as well as an effective method in the fight against scar.

Choosing One So there you have it, the above are some of the new high tech skin care care products and trreatments designed to help you with those past acne breakouts. Before you begin scar remover treatment or any treatment of such nature, make sure to consult with a professional. I am in no way considered a medical professional, so consulting with one would be beneficial.

Because there are so many of them that make this claim, what is a person to do?

The best scar cream products utilize scientifically proven ingredients (such as silicone and onion bulb extract) in adequate concentrations to maximize their effectiveness.

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-1745067910544067";
/* Red 336x280, created 9/7/09 */

Among some of the most effective are ones that appeal to many people. By this I mean that there has to be a nice balance between the scientifically engineered ingredients and the holistic ingredients. By combining these two sources is a winning combination that is not only popular but have been found to be most effective as well.

For Discoloration
Hydroquinone is a bleaching cream that has many different favorable affects on scars. One it helps minimize the darkness associated with many different types of scars. You can use this treatment in combination with a vitamin c treatment to give you maximum benefits. However it’s important to note that this is very powerful and will permanently alter the pigmentation, so you should consult a dermatologist first.

Scar Guard Review
This is a brand that was developed by a plastic surgeon, so you know that this stuff must be pretty impressive. What is unique about this product is that is contains topical silicone. This is a key ingredient that many scar removal creams and products use. It is same ingredient is used in skin sheet treatments given by plastic surgeons. Silicone can help diminish scars as well as prevent new scars from forming.

This product also contains cortisone, which helps decrease skin irritation. Vitamin E helps aide in the healing process by hydrating and being an effective emollient for the skin. Slight pressure is also a defining factor in this treatment which helps the product be absorbed into the skin. The last essential factor is occlusion, which is medical jargon for safeguarding and providing adhesive properties to the scar. This product has a revolutionary formula that dries quickly and is water proof to protect the tissue during it’s transformation as well as harm from environmental factors.

Dermanew Microdermabrasion System
Also marketed under the name “Total Body Experience” this is a 9 piece set that retails for around $80 which you use at home. It includes what they call a personal microdermabrasion system as well as creams and gels to use with it. This product is free of any type of oil, so even people with the most sensitive skin can integrate this product in their routine to help fade scars. In order to achieve even more benefits one can use a Vitamin A dervative in accordance with this product. Keep in mind this will probably not be as effective as the professional grade microdermabrasion that is performed at a doctor’s office.

Mederma Scar Cream
This is perhaps the most widely used product, probably because it is sold by a lot of retailers. This uses extract from an onion bulb (Allium Cepa extract) which helps diminish the scar tissue. This is known to be very effective. Personally however, I prefer using a cream which uses this ingredient, plus silicone gel too.

What To Do Next?
Now that you have read and seen many of the benefits, as well as ingredients that tend to work, you are that much closer to treatment. Make sure to consult with a physician before trying any scar remover product. That way you can base your decision more on definitive facts and get more helpful advice from a professional.
