Another Walk on the Downs

2016-04-19T20:34:00.001+01:00

Sunday was such a nice day, sunshine, hardly any breeze. We went for a walk on the Downs. We only planned to walk to East Dean but then after having lunch there, we decided to go to Birling Gap, it was only one mile, so why not. We bought some ice cream and carried on to Beachy Head and then walked home. We ended up walking over 20km! I can't believe it myself now, but I still have somewhat sore muscles to remind me that we did in fact walked that far. I did not bring my camera, only had my phone, but I'm quite impressed with quality of pictures (except those that are zoomed in, those are potato quality). I'm glad I live near such a beautiful place. It almost makes up for Eastbourne being a rather boring place to live.

I hope next weekend we will have nice weather again and we will be able to do more walking. I would like to walk to Jevington and I will certainly take my camera with me.

Sunday Walk

Finally we had some sunshine, we used this opportunity to have a nice long walk on South Downs and along the seafront. Sun was lovely but the wind was very chilly, but that's nothing unusual.

We walked around 12.5km, not too bad at all. I think we'll be making this a regular Sunday activity, especially now the summer is coming and the weather is only going to get better.

My Long Weekend

2016-03-29T17:15:00.000+01:00

Hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend. I had visitors from Germany- my parents. They've only been here once, when I graduated from university which now seems to be ages ago- 5 years in July. Eeasyjet have made this trip difficult by cancelling Gatwick-Düsseldorf route for some reason. Now I won't be able to visit as often as getting to Heathrow is not as easy and it wouldn't be as cheap but I digress.

First day they arrived we had a perfect spring day, lots of sunshine, hardly any breeze. We went for a walk on the Downs. I was surprised there was hardly any wind up there either, it just doesn't happen very often even on the nicest days. There were a lot of people, not a surprise considering it was a bank holiday.

We walked over 8k. Not too bad, not too bad at all. We ended up in Willingdon, such a nice neighbourhood. I would love to live in a place like that.

Saturday weather was a complete opposite, cloudy and with cold winds. Not that it surprises me at all! We did some shopping and had lunch. My parents wanted to have fish&chips again, you can't get anything like that in Germany. We ended the day with nice Lithuanian food and dyeing Easter eggs

Sunday showed how ridiculous British weather can be.We left with sun shining but it soon disappeared behind clouds and I was glad I had my scarf on. We walked along the seafront and then suddenly had to find shelter as it started pouring. We went to a small cafe and ordered tea. That's then the sun came back and it was all lovely again.

Lots of food eaten but then lots of walking done too. I have so much chocolate in my house and I couldn't resist by some discounted Easter chocolate.

Lewes

2016-03-12T17:34:00.002+00:00

I spent my day off in Lewis with Marta. I haven't seen her in ages and it was so nice to catch up. Lewes is quite charming, lots of teashops and small independent shops. It was a nice sunny day but still rather chilly.

We went to Polish Pottery shop Baltica. So many pretty things. I suppose I'd like a thing or two, but the patterns too busy for my liking, so I wouldn't ever get full china set.

There are plenty of antique shops in Lewis, but we didn' bother to visit any of them that day.

I can't wait for the weather to get better and the trees and flowers to bloom, Grange park in Lewis is beautiful in Spring.

Lithuanian food that I miss

2016-01-30T21:01:00.003+00:00

OK, I will admit, this was meant to be "10 things I miss about Lithuania" but it all ended up being food and I will be doing that instead and might eventually come up with a list of non-food things that I miss.

You can find replacement for Lithuanian sour cream- creme fraiche is very good and you can find Polish curd cheese in Sainsbury's but yet there is still so many things that I can't easily buy living in UK that I greatly miss:

Fried rye bread with garlic- a beer snack normally, tastes fantastic on its own- that is if you don't mind garlic and how greasy it is.
Cakes, so many cakes- you can go to any grocery shop and you have a great selection of freshly made cakes. I miss it so much, you can't get anything like that in UK.
Sweets & biscuits- so many varieties!
Curd snacks
Smoked cheese with cumin- I can it the whole thing on its own
Sour Cream Butter- perfect with potatoes
Wild blueberries- shop bought blueberries taste nothing like wild blueberries
White Pizza sauce- in most Pizza places in Lithuania you will be given ketchup and a white/pinkish sauce to go with your pizza. Yes, it's not how Italians eat it but believe me it's delicious. As far as I remember, the white sauce is always made in the restaurant and I am not entirely quite sure what’s in it- mayo, ketchup, garlic yes, but the rest is mystery to me. There are recipes floating around the internet and I ought to try it. I guess it wouldn't go well with an authentic pizza but for your ordinary pizza that you might get from a shop- perfect.
Freshly baked rye bread. There is nothing like it.

And another thing I miss and I will wait till spring to make is saltibarsciai:

New flat- sneak peek

2016-01-25T12:46:00.000+00:00

It's been 3 months since we moved into our new flat- cannot believe how quickly the time has passed! There is lots of white and I love it. We bought most of our furniture from Ikea and so far we have been very happy with them. He finally had our blinds installed and it feels very finished but there are few things that still missing- lamps, mirror in a bath and artwork- at the moment the walls are very bare. Nevertheless, it feels very homely and cosy.

Christmas in Germany

2016-01-03T17:22:00.000+00:00

3rd year in a row I spent Christmas in Germany with my family. on Christmas eve I was hoping to go to Dusseldorf Christmas market but it was already closed, but you can find pictures from last year here. We did some shopping instead, had some gluchwein (mulled wine) and flammkuchen.

The rest of the week spent there I was mostly stuffing myself with food and spending time with family, including my very lovely cousins, the youngest one is only 9 months old.

We spotted this house in a neighbourhood, it looked wonderful.

Back to work tomorrow. It will be a struggle. I have spoiled myself with lots of sleep during my two weeks off and it will be hard to get back to the routine. The only consolation is that so will everyone else.

Christmas Wishlist

2015-12-06T16:31:00.000+00:00

Forgive for saying I can't believe it's December already! Shops are flooded with all things Christmassy, people talking about wrapping Christmas presents already and I here I am, do not even have a proper Christmas tree, only bought secret santa presents for work so far and nothing else! Christmas shopping is absolute pain and I hope to do most on Amazon if possible but I am completely out of ideas. I made a go at making my Christmas wishlist but it is been hard to, the things I want most are sunshine rather than anything else.

2015-11-18T16:00:00.000+00:00

I have been spending a lot of time studying for a management qualification that I'm doing at work, which is one of the many reasons I haven't been posting lately but I digress. When I study, I normally listen to classical music, it helps me focus, any other music distracts me. However, recently I discovered Mazzy Star- it is so chill and smooth, I can listen to it for hours without getting bored of it. I hope you'll enjoy it too

A visit from an old friend

2015-11-09T22:18:00.002+00:00

It's been very hectic at work and in my personal life. I have also now moved to my new flat, I might post some pictures once all the furniture has arrived and I finish unpacking (only a couple of boxes left!. Lots of things happening at once, I haven't seen my friends in ages. I did, however, have a short visit from an old friend. We went to art school together so I guess we've known each other for almost 10 years now. What an incredibly long time! It was her first visit to UK, although there wasn't much time to show her much at all but we had great fun and it was nice to catch up.

I'm hoping to have more old friends visiting very soon, fingers crossed

Cow Gap

2015-09-26T20:45:00.004+01:00

It might be end of September but the weather is still rather decent. We had a warm and sunny Saturday and decided to go for a nice long walk on the South Downs and put my walking boots to good use. We ended up at Cow Gap.

It is very rocky and slippery but fun at the same time. Definitely need to wear good walking boots here!

I never knew there was such a nice beach there. The lack of pebbles and the colour of the sea reminded me of Lithuania.

We walked just under 10k. I made up for all the calories burned by eating way too many milky ways when I got home.

Ben Nevis

2015-09-14T20:05:00.000+01:00

Yesterday I came back from Scotland. This was not my first visit to Scotland, I went to Edinburgh last year. The reason for this visit was climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in UK, to raise money for Clapa.

We had hired a coach to get us from Glasgow airport to Fort William, the views during the whole trip were amazing. I never realised it is so beautiful here.

The climb was more challenging than I thought it would be. It is steep from the very beginning, the weather was really bad, we got completely soaked. I didn't take a picture at the top, the weather was too harsh. The wind was very strong and it seemed to have ice in it, it hurt my face.

I found going down much easier and if I hadn't to wait for others, I would have done in it much quicker.

When I was climbing down all I wanted was to have a hot shower and get into dry clothes. You really start appreciating the small things.

We already planning next year's climb, what I want to do for this is to do proper training, I am not as fit as I'd like to be.

I would much appreciate if you support my just giving page.

We've put down a holding deposit for a new flat so it seems we'll finally be able to move out! The flat is not available for another 2 months but that gives plenty of time to declutter before the move and to look for home decoration inspiration and new furniture (we currently rent a half furnished flat).
