An imaginative and very cool collection of monologues, short plays, and short stories. There are 25 Monolgues with such tantalizing titles as "I Shot the Weatherman", "Kiss and Tell", "One Weekend in Reno", "Strip Club Cuisine" and "Straight Out of Sartre", among others. Each is a complete story in itself with rich characterization, perfect for auditions, studio work, and even debates and speechmaking, and... it's a delightful reading experience. Character Flaws is laced with the unique flavor and point of view of writer, actor, composer and musician, Les

"Come In, Stranger, Out Of The Fog"
During the December 1962 "killer fog" that blanketed London for 5 days, a man, having lost his way, knocks on a door to seek assistance. He is admitted into the home of a widow whom he takes to be alone. His error! A sinister mystery builds around their mutually inappropriate, inexplicable and threatening behavior. A cane, aluminum, tipped by grey rubber, dangled off the left handlebar. Her back was S'd by scoliosis and pitched forward by osteoporosis, and a thatch of white hair riffled like a reed tuft in a breeze.

"Andrea Dworkin"
They rarely make self-invented, self-defined provocateurs as disturbing and inspiring and life-changing as Andrea Dworkin. She was and remains one of the most important women, one of the most important voices in the twentieth century.

THE MACHO ZONE
So here I am holding this wheezing, sleeping boy
against my chest, swaying slightly, eddied about
by the blank-faced rush of people "on the go" --
and then it happened.

Arthur Meiselman
REALITY: STAGE IT AND CAGE IT
An 'avatar', a virtual creature who embodies
the above-described reality of Reality
in the media... the candidate for the
Vice-Presidency, Sarah Palin.

absent any input from the culture in which the
artist lives?

What changed was that I crossed the bridge
between my world and the world within the
language of the text. It became personal.
It became meaningful.

Beginning this month
"Where Cedar Creek Falls"
The serialization of a new novel by
Martin Challis
Cirque du Soleil's "KÀ"
reviewed by Karren Alenier

Michael Bettencourt
"Dogme(fill in the year)"
In 1995, Danish directors Lars van Trier and Thomas Vinterberg issued the manifesto known as Dogme95, an attempt to "purify" filmmaking by doing away with gimmicks and special effects.

Arthur Meiselman
"Lester Cole"
He was a New York playwright, a prolific screenwriter during Hollywood's golden years, a leader and the most vehement
member of the blacklisted Hollywood Ten.

Nathan Thomas
"Theatre"
Sometimes a theatre doesn't need to become an industrial showplace. Sometimes a company can look toward creating relationships with its members and its audience. Sometimes it doesn't have to be about money first

Les Marcott
"Defending Jon Voight"
Who knew he was a raving mad conservative? At least he's not foaming at the mouth yet, or maybe he is.

Claudine Jones
"No Hamstrings in Heaven"
I got hooked on So You Think You Can Dance--even though it's FOX
and I should be boycotting them. But I can't miss LOST, so screw it.

Martin Challis
A Christmas Eve with Godot
After the performance it was hard to describe it to one another, yet each of us knew something extraordinary had happened.

DANCE
the soft edge of victory
Ned Bobkoff

**inSight**
BOOKS
In a small country town in outback Australia a young man is confronted with the fact that his father is missing presumed dead.
In the face of all the evidence to the contrary he is convinced this is not the case and sets out to discover the truth for himself.
Sociable Contract
As a wordsmith I both hate and love it when reality casually throws
up a phrase for which I would have
given my gold crown to fashion

Arthur Meiselman
The Licensing of Actors
Who would grant this license? He--or she--who's name may not be spoken... probably. And that, as Lenny Bruce used to say, is that!

Nathan Thomas
Theatre
Years and years ago I figured there
was a secret to theatre.
If I hung on just long enough
I'd learn that secret

Les Marcott
Duct Tape Messiah
(The Life and Legend of Blaze Foley)
Every once in a blue moon, I'll hear a song I've never heard before and it will not only touch my heart - it will also land a solid punch to my gut
