It feels weird to return to this blog after many months away. I often return to observe all the work I have put in and see areas I can up the quality of my content. 

I want a new project, but everytime I think about it, I want an evolved version of Scenes of Sydney that offers more freedom to discuss subjects that can&#39;t be easily defined or aren&#39;t solely based in Sydney.

Arts collective Performance Space once again hosted their engaging &#39;Micro Parks&#39; events appropriating public parks into gallery spaces. Art installations and groups have for a long time been democratising art often in unconventional contexts making it more accessible for people to participate which not only broadens its audience, but also elevates it into new opportunities.

Kaldor Public Art Projects is one of Australia&#39;s leading art philanthropists commissioning Jeff Koons, Thomas Demand, Christo &amp; Jeanne-Claude and the like to create large art installations for the Australian public. A Romance Was Born runway show is anything but typical, but this year at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) they opted to show their creations through an exhibition. A worthwhile production seeing that they can manipulate a space more and create a bigger experience for the viewer than the small bump in and out time allotted for a standard show.

It has been some time since my last post after my travels became 7.5 months instead of 3! I find myself back in Sydney where a bus takes me to my local station instead of some isolated mountain village! Travelling so long meant that I really got to know the land, people and politics of Turkey, Israel, Palestine, Morocco, Italy and Greece where I lived more than I visited or travelled.

And no it&#39;s not about a puberty, coming into adulthood story. I am heading overseas for 3-ish months visiting, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Palestine, Morocco, Italy and the United Arab Emirates. Scenes of Sydney and I will return in January. Scratch that, May after my trip has been extended.

A cement remote in Redfern




Here in Redfern I found a second TV remote made of cement, fixed to the ground and wedged in the pavement between two different structures so that it won&#39;t be seen unless you come by it by happenstance. I suppose you could call it graffiti in 3D, guerilla art or a prank to see how many naive folk would try and fail at picking it up. The building on the right Hibernian House is a beautiful, old art deco building that houses a lot of artists, creatives in Surry Hills which I would really like to photograph properly and give it justice, but for now I find what links the two buildings really fascinating. Whether intentionally or by happenstance these pipes really mimic the cold tin of a robot characterised by old cinema even without the white face that&#39;s been painted on. Who know perhaps they could be functioning pipes or art that is trying to blend in with its environment by using typical materials.

In the middle of historic Sydney, The Rocks you will find a mock windmill all too teach visitors about energy production and agriculture. In such an eclectic suburb as Surry Hills you&#39;re sure to meet a diverse range of characters, but I didn&#39;t think I would find such a random garden ornament of a rhinoceros that is to a close scale to a baby rhino! Hopefully it is supposed to be a baby rhino who hasn&#39;t grown its ivory tusks yet otherwise poaches have struck this beautiful styrofoam/plastic soul

Fashion Week is a lot of things and often not what the general public thinks it is. It&#39;s hard not to be dazzled and engrossed amongst the throngs of parties and fashion shows which seem to harbour beautiful people, the goodie bags thrown to patrons and often being wined and dined all for free all in an attempt for brands to score media coverage and their merchandise picked up by stores.

This photo was taken as I was descending the stairwell of the Museum of Contemporary Art when I thought both the walls of the old and new structures framed the scene so well especially since it felt you are in a broken moment in time seeing that you are so many metres high; yet you can touch the outside wall of the MCA&#39;s old building, but remain inside it. Who knew that a parade of people walking down King Street some Saturdays ago holding banners was not a protest, but a roving street party moving through the streets and laneways of Newtown all in the name of the community.
