Ours VS. Theirs

Many many people have candles in their home. I was one of them until I discovered Scentsy. After I learned of the benefits, I couldn't bear the thought of having a regular candle burning in my home again.

I frequently have people ask me what makes Scentsy so special.

Number one is the safety issue. Candles have an open flame. I have 2 children and 7 pets (two of which are very agile cats). Plus the melted wax of a regular candle will burn the skin whereas Scentsy paraffin was is heated to just above the human body temperature making it safe to the touch.

And number two. You'll see in the photo below that the Yankee candle emits soot, which is an eyesore as well as a pollutant and the wax is burned into the air...this isn't good for those with allergies or sinus issues. Scentsy wax, on the other hand, never burns off and will remain in the warmer. So tell me, which would YOU rather have in your home?

Master Bathroom Makeover

We've been in this house for 6 years now and the bathroom was the first room we did to start making our house our own. Now that time has gone by and things need a little refreshing I want to do it right... you know, get rid of "bulb row" lighting fixture that's all tarnished and get a new faucet to replace the plastic clear knobbed one that's on there now.

So I've been browsing the web looking for some inspiration and this is what I've come up with...... I think the Armerina warmer will go in there just fine! I'll follow up with posts showing my before, progress and after of the bathroom, stay tuned!

Testing 1-2-3 is an occasional post where we test out beauty products and give our take. This week it’s Layers by Scentsy.

What: Layers by Scentsy offers four layers. Layer 1: Shower Cream and Shower Gel. Layer 2: Body Lotion, Body Butter and Hand Cream. Layer 3: Body Spray and Solid Perfume. Layer 4: Washer Whiffs and Dryer Disk. We tested out the Shower Cream and Body Butter.

Product mission statement: ”Layers by Scentsy lets you build a new fragrance wardrobe, layer by layer, from your skin to your clothes. Now you can envelop every part of your life with Scentsy fragrances: transform your morning shower from a necessity to something sublime. Elevate the laundry from a chore to an experience Let you personal fragrance leave a trace with every movement.”

How to use: Offering a variety of fragrances (Coconut Lemongrass, Enchanted Mist, Love Story, Luna, Quiver and Sugar Cookie), Layers by Scentsy allows you to choose a desired aroma or mix and match to create your own smell. Then you layer the smells from the shower to your clothes.

Our take: Allowing you to take control of your aroma is fun as you can customize your fragrance from your skin to clothes. We tested out the Quiver, Luna and Enchanted Mist. Luna was our favorite smell, as it wasn’t too overpowering. Those with sensitivities to smells may want to use a small amount of product or only one of the layers in a day. Additionally, sensitive skin users should test out a small portion of the product on the skin to avoid irritation.

I've heard quite a few reasons why people don't want to have a party at their house....they'd have to clean, they're renovating, they don't have time, they don't know many people, etc. But it truly pains me when they say, "I'll order something though". Father's Day Gift Ideas

Father's Day is quickly approaching! This year it falls on Sunday, June 17th. So do you know what you're getting your dad? Does he have everything? Are you struggling to find something unique? Thinking about settling for a shirt and a baseball cap like last year? How about trying something different?

There has been a lot of talk about the "Walmart" wax lately so I thought I'd share this picture. This picture was taken by a Scentsy Director, she purchased both bars about the same time (November - holidays). She put them both up in her personal stash above her refrigerator to be used later. She had forgotten about the wax until she stumbled across them in February and here's what she found.....

The Walmart brand (left) was dry and had much less scent left. The Scentsy one (right) looked as good as the day it arrived at her house. Scentsy - Quality you can see!!!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

So my husband and I had a date day yesterday and we went to the Detroit Tiger's baseball game. I couldn't help but be reminded of the baseball Scentsy warmer and how fitting it would be for game day. Welcome to my first post, I hope you enjoy my Signature Scents blog!

Yesterday I went to a garage sale at a local church and found...I don't know, a bamboo? rattan? seagrass? something-or-other, shade. It was $1.00.

The first thing that popped into my head was the Seagrass Headboard on the Pottery Barn website (below):

The ceiling in my room is vaulted and there's a LOT of space to fill so I dreamt about a taller version of the seagrass headboard and started about with the magic. I gathered my materials....

6 - 2x2's
2 pieces of plywood
wood screws
nails
hammer
screw driver
stain

We started by building the frame,

Then nailed the plywood to the frame and stained the legs,

After the stain was dry we stood up the structure and began upholstering. I made sure to flip the edges under so that it wouldn't unravel.

The material was pliable enough that it allowed me to bend it around the corners and create a fold at the top side edge.
