This is the latest design of the interior of the residential area ,based on pencil sketches ,the whole area is linking up with the " Grossbeak s5 " transport system , its a huge area ,a cave like area . The sunlight casting from the hole on the top of the mountain , when the time is coming ,the sun will set, and where will you go ?.....................

Grosbeak s5

Grosbeak s5 is a transport linking the residential area inside 2200 city without a name ,its running with cable system ( working well and stable :) ) for myself the beak is just lovely .original front glass was replaced by the balcony , to create some variation on the sturcture of the space , i am satisfied with it ,the composition version has a strong "swing" feel on it ,but this is not a singing grosbeak :)

Technique notes :

1. Modeling/Rendering with Maya/Mental ray ,original size are 4.8k width , slightly post-production (lighting) on composition version , no post-production on IBL rendering versions ,occulsion layer and z-depth layer was applied .texture maps painted with photoshop.
2. when you composite the z-depth , try to blur it slightly before apply the lens-blur can give you some "nice quality " of lens-blur , but dont forget : although the lens-blur is "optics" but the human view is not " Scientific " .
3.you can create yourself a HDR image of your environment by using a panoramic_lens (lat_Long ) shader ,thanks for the people who wrote this script .

A Latest design of the residential area (ground level) inside 2200 City without a name , this angle just right behind the train station . after some sketches here come the latest design .They look like Bird houses on the cliff ? maybe or yes (but i can still see the sky is slightly blue though the dust :) )

A Latest design of the Train/Transporter in " 2200 City without a name " , after some sketches ( see below) here come the latest 3d version . Here is the underground level of Train station , the Hornbill coming from the tunnel and is going to land on the Cranes , and will be lift up to the terminal later :)

This is a long waited 3d model for myself ,a latest design of Train station in "2200 city without a name " finally get it done,here is one of the selected angel ,modeled based on my design in pencil sketch ( see below ) ..The Train is on the way back to the station ( should be back soon :) )

This work is a challenge for myself , First i hope to design it with diferrent feel to Airbase but keep the main style of design , second it is a half-open style building , the constrution between interior and exetior need some time to play around , detailed but not too fancy , ( i afraid to repeating myself , i cant imagine what is my mental reaction in the future world ,when i see a " Clone me " at front of me : ) ) i tell myself all the time to avoid to design too much of fancy elements but keeping my favorite pattern's decoration . i try to give a dynamic feel of design , kind of construction with rhythm ( for me the movement of structure must be there for a transtation ) ,and between the machanical and organic form still give me a lot of fun to play around when doing the design , can't describe the feeling .The " Airbase " is at the end of this image hope u can find it .

Technical notes for some people who want to know :
1. Modeling and Rendering with Maya and Mental ray , texture maps painted with Photoshop .Original Size in 4.8k (300dpi) . Occulsion Layer was applied ,final lighting and textures touched up in Photoshop .
2. " Bulb" about Occulsion layer : render out some mask when necessary for a better fine tune on occulsion layer ( sometime occulsion cause your image look " strange " , unless you like the effect :) )
2. The background sky is a matte painting , i did it when i doing my first photoshop painting for Transtation and the character is a 2d photoshop .
3. the enviroment smoke is post-effects in Photoshop , for sure it is possible to use maya-dynamic or maya fluid effect to create the smoke , but i want to save some rendering time :) ( p.s be nice to your machine , although there are just machines , and the oil price is keep climbing , it is good to help to save some energy :) i dont want to see any more stupid war because of " OIL " )
4. " Bulb " about Zdepth: if u looking for a zdepth map to create depth of field ( dont over do it , unless u try to achieve some interesting effect, try to study some photoshooting for a idea of DOF ) . there are some possibility to create Zdepth but here is my easier suggestion :(1)select all the object and apply a render layer to them ( Caution:sometime render layer option can give you some trouble , better to save your files in a diferent name after apply it ) , click the right mouse button - there is a list - go to Presets - Luminace Depth . (2) Inside Render Setting , uncheck the Alpha Channel and Depth Channel . (3) go to your camera Attributes editor - under Camera Attributes section : uncheck " Auto Render Clip Plane " and tuning the " Near / Far Clip Plane to control the Depth you need . that is :) enjoying your " DOF"
5. "Observation" is a key for learning , "Imagination" is the soul of new world , " Technique " is something to "interpretate " your idea , don't fall inside each of them , it is not " healthy " :)

One of Character Design inside 2200 City without a name , hand painted in photoshop based on my pencil sketch, no secret technique was used , a usual " traditional photoshop painting" with common brushes ,smudge tool and normal filter . Original size in 4k height (300 dpi) .This work was finished inbetween the time while i am working on another 3d modeling (need to paint someting to refresh my eyes and nerves , is good for health to avoid become a robot :) )

Another 3d model of my 2200 City without a name , based on my original pencil sketch idea .Southeast asia's culture elements are the references for my design which i am focusing on , but i not going to duplicate a bali or thai building or even angkor wat , because in my project it is not a ancient world for today but some place existed in the fulture , and the balance between technology and traditional is the fun part here. ( a aspect of today , where we heading to ? :) )
I have a lot of fun when i doing this image , first i enjoy myself doing the environment design , second i have been waited for a long time to see my pencil sketch in turnable 3d version .

For someone who want to know :
for some people who suffering in memory problem with mental ray to render out a large image ( > 4k or 5k even go to 10k with heavy polygon ) , you can find a mel script for mental ray tiles render at highend3d homepage , the usage is simple and a very nice mel script for tiles render .( thanks a lot to the people who wrote this mel script )
