Fellowships of Globalink Graduate for Master's and PhD program 2013

Globalink Graduate Fellowships is the result of cooperation between the MITACS Globalinks and, scholarship program is fully funded by the University of British Columbia. This program is for students who want to take a master's degree or doctorate in particular in the area of Canada that is for students from India, China, Brazil and Mexico. Scholarship provides $ 35,000 / year for two years of the study period. These scholarships are for research-based masters or doctoral applicants at UBC which opened in January, May and September 2013.

These scholarships can be taken to study in Canada.

Eligibility:

Eligible students are top undergraduate students who have completed the Mitacs Globalink summer research program. The Globalink program currently accepts students from India, China, Brazil, and Mexico. Applicants will be pursuing research-based Master’s or PhD studies at UBC starting in January 2013, May 2013, or September 2013. Applicants need to be registered with Mitacs for the Global ink Fellowship competition.

These scholarships are open and apply for International Students from India, China, Brazil, and Mexico.

Description of these scholarships:

In collaboration with Mitacs, UBC has created the Globalink Graduate Fellowships for Globalink alumni students who wish to pursue a research Master's or PhD program at UBC. UBC will fund up to six students per year, depending on availability of funding from Mitacs, the quality of the students, and their fit with their prospective graduate programs.

This scholarship covers the cost of: The fellowship provides $35,000 per year for two years, comprised of:

$10,000 stipend from UBC
$10,000 stipend from Minacs
$15,000 from graduate program / research supervisor in the form of research assistantships, teaching assistantships, GSI award funding or any combination thereof

Scholarship criteria: Nominations will be evaluated using the following criteria:

Academic excellence (50% for Master’s, 30% for Doctoral)
Research Ability / Potential (30% for Master’s, 50% for Doctoral)
Communication, interpersonal and leadership (20% Master’s/Doctoral)

Students apply directly to graduate programs. Students should contact their prospective graduate program for details about the internal deadline and application procedures.

Nomination Procedures:

Each graduate program can submit a maximum of three nominations to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Nominations from the graduate program must be ranked.

Each complete nomination will include:

1. Nomination letter from graduate program with:

- Confirmation and description of financial commitment from
graduate program and/or supervisor

- Explanation of why the student is a good fit for the graduate program
and the Global ink Fellowship

- Indication of nominee's rank within group forwarded by graduate program

2. Copies of transcripts from the nominee's application for admission

3. Research proposal (maximum one page, including references)

4. Copies of two letters of reference from the nominee's application
for admission

Lotus is an Erasmus Mundus Action Two Partnership (EMA2) of European and South-East Asian Higher Education Institution (HEI) and Associations aiming at fostering mutual enrichment and better understanding between the EU and Southeast Asia Scholarship (China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand), through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills at higher education level and to co-operate in the following.

The type of mobility to be funded are:

IELTS certificate, TOEFL, First Certificate of Cambridge, an English diploma, a Degree obtained in English). Please note, however, that this also depends on the language requirements of the host universities within the Lotus project.

The Erasmus Mundus Action Two Partnership programme is a cooperation and mobility scheme in the area of higher education launched by Europe Aid Cooperation Office and implemented by the Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA). The European Commission has launched this initiative to foster cooperation between higher education institutions. It aims to boost exchanges of students, researchers and academic staff and to support mobility, in particular from non-EU countries to EU member states.

The Chulabhorn Graduate Institute (CGI) and the ASEAN Foundation (AF) have entered into an agreement to develop highly qualified human resources in the area of science and technology within ASEAN member countries through the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute - ASEAN Foundation Post-Graduate Scholarship Program in Science and Technology.

The CGI is a multidisciplinary post-graduate academic institute established in 2005, under the initiative of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol. The aim of CGI is to employ the most recent interactive teaching techniques used in leading educational and research institutions to train students in the program to be effective thinkers and leaders in their fields of expertise, to better serve their countries' needs towards sustainable development. The CGI is presently offering programs leading to a Post-Graduate diploma, a Master's degree and a Doctoral degree in Applied Biological Sciences: Environmental Health, Environmental Toxicology, and Chemical Biology.

The ASEAN Foundation, an initiative of the Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), was established on 15 December 1997 to help bring about shared prosperity and a sustainable future for the peoples of all ASEAN countries. It has been mandated to promote greater awareness of ASEAN and greater interaction among its peoples and their increased participation in ASEAN activities as well as to undertake development cooperation activities that enhance mutual assistance, address equitable economic development and reduce poverty. This year, 7 (seven) scholarships are available for ASEAN nationals (except Thai citizen) who are interested to pursue a Master Degree at the CGI. IPRS scholarships must be awarded in a competitive application process, and applications must be submitted in the form approved by and on the date determined by the University.

Applications must be by the online application process at http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/home/postgrad/international/iprs by the advertised closing date.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for an IPRS Scholarship for 2012 an applicant—

Must be eligible to enrol or be enrolled as a full-time student in a higher degree by research at the University upon commencement of their scholarship;
Must not have commenced a higher degree by research prior to 2012 unless the applicant was unable to apply for a scholarship in the last selection round due to the timing of their enrolment;
Must not already be in receipt of another UWA Postgraduate Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (SIRF or IPRS) or a UWA International Living Allowance Scholarship (UIS or UPAIS);
Must have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement demonstrated by the award of a degree of First Class Honours standard or equivalent;
Must be a citizen of an overseas country, excluding New Zealand;
Must meet the University’s English language requirements for scholarship holders;
Must not have completed a degree either at the same level as, or at a higher level than, the degree for which candidature is sought;
Must enrol in an area of research concentration and be recommended by the Head of the School in which the proposed study is to be undertaken;
Must not be an overseas student who is currently on an Australian Government sponsored scholarship such as AusAID seeking to apply for an IPRS immediately following the AusAID-funded study. Such candidates must meet the terms and conditions of these awards prior to applying for future funding. This applies to students under the Australian Sponsored Training Scholarships (ASTAS), the Equity and Merit Scholarship Scheme (EMSS) and the Australian Development Scholarships (ADS).

Chevening Scholarships for International Students – UK Government Scholarships

The Chevening UK Scholarships is one of the world’s top scholarship schemes for international students. It is the flagship scholarship scheme of the British Government which provides scholarships to around 1000 leaders from over 130 countries to study in the UK every year.

Description

The Chevening Scholarships programme started in 1984. It was originally called the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Scholarships and Awards Scheme. A few years later the name was changed to Chevening – after Chevening House in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, which is currently the joint official residence of the Foreign Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister.

Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion and academia. Most scholars undertake a one year master’s degree.

In the current academic year there are over 500 Chevening scholars at universities across the UK. The programme is mainly funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, with some contributions from Higher Education Institutions and other partners in the UK. Our Embassies and High Commissions also have partnership agreements with a wide range of overseas sponsors including governmental and private sector bodies. The programme is managed in UK and overseas by the British Council through a Service Level Agreement.

Who should apply?

Chevening Scholarships are for high calibre graduates with the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership. Applicants should be:

Motivated to make a career that will take them to positions of leadership in their own country within ten years of their scholarship
Able to use their studies and experience in the UK to benefit themselves, their countries and the UK
Natural influencers and talented communicators, with energy and ambition
People who value networking and who can demonstrate the value of networks to their studies, and to bringing about change on a global level
Intelligent, with demonstrable academic potential
Strong characters with integrity, drive, and the ability to self manage and work independently

Applicants must:

Have good English language skills with and should check what IELTS score or equivalent is required for admission to postgraduate courses
Meet the academic requirements for their courses of study

Applicants cannot be:

A UK or EU national.
An employee of the FCO (including British Embassies and High Commissions), the British Council, a co-sponsor or sponsoring UK university, or their relatives, or former employee who left such employment within the past two years.
People who have already received financial benefit from an HMG-funded award.

How to apply

There is no coordinated global launch of the programme. British missions around the world will advertise Chevening separately, so timings will vary. Some Embassies will advertise as early as late autumn, while others will start as late as spring.

Before applying
Please check your local British Embassy or High Commission website, and your local British Council website, for details about how the scheme will operate in your country, including information about timings and whether criteria about areas of interest have been applied. Foreign Office priorities are likely to be borne in mind during selection but it is also possible that local criteria will have been applied too.

Sifting and invitation to interview
British Council staff locally will sift applications. Those getting through this stage will be invited to attend an interview that will be chaired by a member of the Embassy staff.

Unsuccessful applicants
The volume of applications (over 20, 000 for the 2011/12 academic year) means that for the most part unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.

Successful applicants
If you are lucky enough to be selected as Chevening scholar that will be confirmed in writing shortly afterwards and the British Council will help prepare you.

The Leiden University Excellence (LExS) is open to outstanding Non-EU/EEA students pursuing a master’s degree programme at Leiden University.

All nationalities enrolling in the following programmes starting September 2011 or February 2012 :

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards:

Platinum; Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs

Gold; Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee*

Bronze; Covers 50% of the tuition fee

Ivory; Covers 25 % of the tuition fee

Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.

Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a Leiden University master’s egree
    Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and conditions (pdf) attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.

Students are selected on the basis of academic merit.

Application instructions :

         To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document should then be attached on the scholarship page in your online application for the master’s programmes for which you are applying.

For programmes starting in September, the deadline is 1 April of the same year while for programmes starting in February, the deadline is 15 October of the previous year.
