What does MUIS cover?
Macquarie University International Scholarships are available across most courses to cover international tuition fees for study on campus in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.
Scholarships will be granted to cover the credit points required to complete a single undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

The scholarship provides course fees for the minimum course duration. No additional allowances are payable. The scholarship does NOT provide financial support in the form of a living allowance, nor does it provide for the cost of visa application, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), airfares, accommodation, conferences or other costs associated with study. Annual renewal of the MUIS is subject to satisfactory performance in the Macquarie University degree program.

Sweden PhD Studentship in Aquatic Biogeochemistry, Uppsala University

PhD Student in aquatic biogeochemistry with focus on spatial and temporal dynamics of organic carbon export from soils to surface waters

The Department of Environmental Assessment is a centre for freshwater and forest soil research with a special focus on environmental monitoring and assessment. The department also performs teaching and gives expert support to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, SEPA. At present the department consists of some 65 employees; ca 25 of which are senior and post-doc scientists and some 10 PhD students. The department is divided into four research sections: geochemistry, biodiversity, organic environmental pollutants and modelling, and covers program areas such as (i) environmental monitoring and assessment, (ii) environmental pollutants, and (iii) integrated catchment monitoring. We now would like to enlarge our research group by announcing a Ph D Student position in aquatic biogeochemistry.

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a key determinant of water quality that is strongly influenced by climate. The doctoral student’s research will seek to bridge the gulf between a high-resolution, process oriented understanding of DOC’s terrestrial origins in the boreal forest, and long term, landscape scale monitoring data in order to better understand the implications of climate change for DOC in aquatic ecosystems. The project will create a model framework for upscaling from hillslope processes. Fieldwork on the Krycklan Catchment in Västerbotten will be used to test key hypotheses.

We seek for a dedicated candidate with a degree in environmental science or engineering. Specialization in biogeochemistry is desirable.

PhD study programmes leading to a doctorate include a minimum of four years of full-time studies after your undergraduate degree. To be admitted as a postgraduate student, you must already have a degree from at least a three-year university course.

Monash University Fellowship 2008

Monash University has established the Monash Fellowships to attract internationally competitive researchers to undertake research of national and international significance (including young researchers from overseas with great future potential) and provide them with the best possible environment to establish a productive laboratory or other research team and to foster collaborations.

The Fellowships will be in the form of a direct appointment in 2008 following a Monash-conducted competitive process (open to researchers from outside Monash University only). The Fellowships are tenable only at Monash University and it is expected that most of the time will be spent at the relevant Monash department/centre.

Up to four (4) awards will be made.
Eligibility

Applicants must not hold a current position at Monash University (including casual/ sessional appointments) at the time of application and/or during the selection process of the Monash Fellowships Program.
Applicants, who have spent considerable time at Monash University prior to their application submission, completing their PhD and/or being employed, may not be eligible.
Applicants may be a citizen of any country, but in order to be eligible to accept the offer of a Monash Fellowship he/she must obtain the appropriate visa as required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
Applicants will normally have not less than two and not more than eight years of post-doctoral experience as at 1 September 2007, calculated from the date of submission of PhD thesis. This may be full-time employment or part-time equivalent, and should be at or above Academic Level A or equivalent. Applicants who have experienced a major interruption to their research career (such as maternity leave or illness) since the submission of their PhD thesis must explain this in their application.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent research outcomes at international level.
Funding
Successful applicants will be awarded up to $AUD160,000 per annum (comprising a salary, including on-costs, in the Research Fellow Level B range, currently $AUD67, 818 - $AUD80, 535 per annum, including on-costs and a research support grant of up to $AUD50,000 per annum, for 5 years). A starting salary within this range may be negotiated and will usually be dependent upon the number of years of postdoctoral research experience.

Costs will be shared - 50% central funds, 25% faculty funds and 25% departmental funds. The Fellow’s Faculty/Department/School is responsible for providing research accommodation and access to facilities and services necessary for the Fellow’s research program.

Any Fellow who subsequently secures externally funded salary support would retain a research support grant of up to $50,000 per annum for the remainder of the term of his/her Monash Fellowship. The cost sharing between central, faculty and departmental funds will continue.

Removals costs and return economy air fares will be paid, for Fellow plus partner and dependent children, in accordance with University policy, with the cost shared in the same way as the salary. UniSuper superannuation benefits are available upon appointment.

Islamic Research Academy (ISRA) is pleased to announce the continuation of it scholarships for Young Postgraduate Students in Islamicjerusalem Studies.

This year, there are a number of full and partial scholarships for young postgraduate students wishing to study full-time for an M.Litt. in Islamicjerusalem Studies at Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies- University of Aberdeen. The scholarship is only for one year beginning from September 2007.

Winners of the scholarship will undertake the taught full-time M.Litt. course in Islamicjerusalem Studies at Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Dundee.

These prestigious scholarship schemes are serious efforts on the part of ISRA to prepare a team of scholars in this new field of inquiry, and a great human investment to prepare an academic team of young scholars as specialists in Islamicjerusalem Studies.

The full scholarship will cover the full student tuition fee and will also include a fixed monthly sum to cover living expenses (£500). Applicants for the scholarships will normally be required to hold at least a second upper Honours degree (2.1) in an appropriate discipline and the scholarships would particularly suit recent graduates who can show potential to excel.

CRITERIA FOR APPLYING

To apply for ISRA’s scholarship the candidate must normally fit the following criteria:

Candidates will normally be required to hold at least a second upper Honours degree (2.1) in an appropriate discipline.
Any applicant whose first language is not English is required to have an IELTS score of 6.5 or above (including a score of 6 in the writing section); or equivalent (e.g. TOFEL 580)
The candidate must be able to demonstrate evidence of interest in Islamicjerusalem Studies. This can be shown by submitting three copies of any relevant academic works including published or unpublished papers, books, manuscripts, monographs, etc.
As the scholarships would particularly suit young recent graduates, applicants should be no more than 30 years old (ie: born after the year 1977)

Applicant Eligibility

Students must have taken (and passed with distinction) a general course on Signals and Systems, including material on: continuous and discrete time signals, sampling, linear filters and systems, and Fourier methods.
Applicants must have good oral and written skills in English, and a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (245 for computer-based test, or 85 for Internet-based test) or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.

Selection and Verification Process

Ericsson works with KTH to identify and select scholarship recipients.
Judges decisions are final and no correspondences will be entertained.
The academic year starts in August 2007 and lasts until June 2009 (including examinations).
Student should be arrived at KTH in early August 2007.
Applicants should be in healthy condition and it is supported by recommendation letter by the general practitioner from local hospital.
Announcement of the Scholarship Award Recipients

The winner is expected to be in Jakarta on May 29 to receive the award.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The £10,000 scholarship comprises two parts:
A lump sum scholarship component of approximately £6500 per year
A component of approximately £3500 per year comprising income from Graduate Teaching Assistant duties. These duties will consist of four hours of teaching per week during term time, two office hours per week during term time, and examination and coursework marking duties. Specific rates of pay and conditions will be specified by contract.

Applicants will be expected to apply to external sources of funding also; if they are successful, they will be expected to take up the external funding rather than the University of Birmingham scholarship.

The scholarship competition is open to Home, EU and International students, studying on a full time basis.

Existing Postgraduate Research students in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham are not eligible to apply.

A scholarship committee comprising the Head of Department, Director of the Graduate School, Director of Postgraduate Research and the Research Director, will select the successful applicants. Applicants may be required to participate in a telephone interview. The decision of the committee cannot be appealed.

Funded full-time PhD Studentship for three years from 1 October 2007

This interdisciplinary project will investigate the structural features of peripheral nerves that enable them to bend and stretch during normal movement without compromising their function. Understanding nerve biomechanics will not only give an insight into some fundamental anatomy, it will also be of value to clinicians treating nerve injury and physiotherapists involved in rehabilitation.

The project will (i) use electron microscopy to investigate the ultrastructure of peripheral nerve tissue that causes localised variations in biomechanics, and (ii) use ultrasound imaging technologies to study variations in nerve movement at different anatomical locations in human volunteers for correlation of findings.

The project is funded by the Open University and is a collaboration between Dr James Phillips (Biological Sciences) and Dr Jamie Harle (Physics and Astronomy), based in the recently refurbished laboratory facilities at the OU Headquarters in Milton Keynes. You should have a good honours degree in a Biological Science and have a keen interest in using interdisciplinary approaches to investigate biological phenomena.

Each year the organisation of alumni, Leiden University Fund (LUF) awards LUF scholarships to outstanding foreign students pursuing a Masters Degree at Leiden University (See the list of eligible Masters programmes on www.postgraduate.leidenuniv.nl).

For 2007-2008, two scholarships are available for MA students in the Faculties of Theology, Archeology, and Philosophy together, and two scholarships each for the larger Faculties (Social and Behavioural Sciences, Arts, Law, Medicine, and Mathematics and Natural Sciences).

The LUF scholarship is open to talented students from all countries of the world except the Netherlands.

The scholarship consists of € 10.800,- for one academic year.

The Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) is used to evaluate whether international students who wish to study at the undergraduate level at universities or other such higher educational institutions in Japan possess the Japanese language skills and the basic academic abilities needed to study at those institutions.

EJU takes the place of both the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and the General Examination for Foreign Students (no longer administered as of December 2001), which many universities (undergraduate level) and other higher educational institutions in Japan previously required international students to take for admission. Starting in 2002, EJU will be administered twice a year (June and November) in Japan and other countries and regions. For a list of examination sites, see “Examination sites.”

EJU includes the following subject tests: Japanese as a Foreign Language, Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), Japan and the World, and Mathematics. Applicants select which subject tests to take based on the requirements of the Japanese university they wish to enter. Scholarship Awards
This premier scholarship opportunity is afforded to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who plan to continue contributing in the future. Recipients will receive a one-time scholarship of:

$5,000 to attend a graduate-level academic institution; or

CHCI will be responsible for managing the disbursement of the scholarship monies to the recipients. Multidisciplinary Summer REU in Computation and Control of Biological and Biologically Inspired Systems

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech University will host a multidisciplinary undergraduate research program in computation and control of biological and biologically inspired systems. This program will be sponsored by the National Science Foundation REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) and the Department of Defense ASSURE (Awards to Stimulate and Support Undergraduate Research Education). This 8-week summer research experience is scheduled to be held between June 04, 2007 to July 27, 2007 and it will support eight-ten undergraduate students and a K-12 teacher. The proposed REU program will consist of interesting and challenging projects arising from computational modeling, systems & control, geometric modeling, and applications of complex analytic methods.

Applicants must be undergraduate students who will be completing their junior or senior year by June 2007. Every selected student participant will be provided a stipend of $2,400, free on-campus housing and meals, and a travel allowance up to $500. Students with a strong background in advanced calculus, linear algebra and differential equations are eligible to apply. Women and underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will investigate the affect of afforestation on the greenhouse gas balance (GHG) in blanket peatlands. The study will be based on a chronosequence which will include a pristine blanket peatland and at least four forest site spanning the full rotation. Soil fluxes of CO2, CH4 and N2O will be measured using chamber techniques. Litterfall and fine root
turnover will also be studied.

In addition, the successful candidate will:

Possess an undergraduate (first or upper second class) or Masters degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, Meteorology, Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline.
Have numerical analysis skills in FORTRAN, Matlab, IDL, C/++ or a similar environment.

SembCorp Industries Undergraduate Scholarship

The SembCorp Industries Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to applicants of Indonesian nationality who have completed the SMU UAN (Ebtanas) in 2006, or are completing the SMU UAN (Ebtanas) in 2007, or its equivalent.
Applicants who have excellent actual SMU UAN (Ebtanas) results or the most recent school examinations results, or equivalent high school results will be considered. Candidates are expected to show strong records of participation in co-curricular activities. Candidates who are completing the SMU Ebtanas in 2007 may be required to sit the University Entrance Examination (UEE).

Candidates will be considered and shortlisted for interviews through their application for admission to NUS. No separate scholarship application is required.

The French Government Scholarships Program 2007 for Indonesian: Master, Doctoral, Postdoctoral

France: The French Government Scholarships Program 2007 in Master, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral Studies For Indonesian Citizens

The French Government, through the Embassy of France in Jakarta, has been providing excellence scholarships to Indonesian citizens for more than 25 years. In order to pursue its objective to improve Indonesian human resources, the Embassy of France will offer scholarships for the year 2006. These scholarships are given to government officials, lecturers, students (with a priority to those involved in a cooperation program between France and Indonesia) to undertake three kinds of training :

Master degree (maximum duration of 2 years)
Doctoral degree (maximum duration of 3 years, only on a shared cost basis)
Post-Doctoral program (maximum duration of 6 months, only on a shared cost basis)

Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements :
Minimum diploma : bachelor degree / S1.
Fluent English.
Less than 35 years old.
Minimum GPA score of 3 (except for fundamental sciences - 3.5).
2 years of working experience (except for fresh graduate students).
Submit all the documents specified in the application form.
Fields of studies
Public administration *
Law and political sciences *
Engineering (water management, agronomy, civil engineering...)
Fundamental sciences (mathematics, physics) - Minimum GPA score of 3.5.
* Please note that these . elds of studies (1.2) require a minimum level of French language.

Applicants from outside Java are encouraged to apply to this scholarship program.

The selection committee will greatly appreciate applicants who have already identified a master/doctoral program and have been in correspondence (via e-mail) with the Professor in charge of the program, as a proof of their motivation and interest to study in France.

Please note that applicants are not requested to get an acceptance letter.

Step two :
Motivation interview (French or English languages only) in Jakarta.
