100 Marie Curie Fellowships for Postdoctoral and Senior Researchers are available in the M4HUMAN programme of the Gerda Henkel Foundation, Germany. The M4Human Programme is aimed at the Mobility for experienced researchers in historical humanities including Islamic Studies.

Starting in 2011, the Gerda Henkel Foundation is offering Marie Curie Fellowships for experienced researchers in historical humanities including Islamic studies programme aimed at supporting outstanding scholars. This funding initiative is co-financed by the European Commission under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research. One objective of this fixed-term programme is to increase networking between researchers in the historical humanities at the international level, including researchers in religious, cultural and political sciences under the special programme “Islam, the modern nation state and transnational movements”. Other goals include the promotion of trans-national academic exchange, increasing transnational mobility, facilitating further education and the positive and long-term influencing of the research environment in both origin and destination countries.

Funding for the marie curie fellowships in historical humanities is available in the following fields:

History

Prehistory and Early History

Archaeology

Art History

Historic Islamic Studies

Legal History

Historical studies, religious, cultural and political sciences under the special programme „Islam, the modern nation state and transnational movements“.

The M4HUMAN program provides 24-month research grants for two categories of researchers:

Experienced researchers (holding a doctorate or with 4 to 10 years of comparable and proven research experience).

Senior researchers (holding post-doctoral qualifications, a comparable academic ranking, or with more than 10 years of comparable and proven research experience).

Precondition:

A precondition for the application to the position for marie curie fellowships in historical humanities is an element of mobility (either incoming or outgoing); i.e. a stay at a host research institute selected by the applicant, situated in a country other than the country of origin and lasting for at least 70% of the 24-month period covered by the grant.

PhD position in biophysics 2011 at Univ K????ln Germany
Bacteria can acquire genetic diversity including antibiotic resistance and
virulence traits by horizontal gene transfer. In particular, many bacteria are
naturally competent for DNA transformation in which bacteria import naked DNA
from their environment. Although the proteins that are required for DNA import
are mostly known, the molecular mechanism of DNA import is unclear. We designed
and tested laser tweezers for studying dynamics and force generation of
individual molecular motors in living bacteria in different model bacteria

In future studies we want to implement methods of statistical physics for
addressing the molecular mechanism of DNA transport through the bacterial cell
envelope in the human pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
We are currently recruiting a physicist (master or diploma in physics) with
background in biophysics. He / she should be interested both in improving the
laser tweezers (hardware and algorithms for analysis) and designing approaches
to decipher the molecular mechanics of DNA import by bacteria at the single
molecule level.
Methods: laser tweezers, single molecule fluorescence microscopy,
microbiological methods
Start 1.06.2011 or later (E13, 65%)
Disabled individuals with equal personal and technical eligibility will be
favored. The WWU is commited to increasing the ratio of women in research. Women
are therefore invited to apply for this position.
Open PhD position in plant systematics/ evolution at Institute of Botany Univ
Regensburg Germany
A 3-years Ph.D. position is presently available in the area of plant systematics
and evolution at the Institute of Botany of the University of Regensburg, under
the supervision of Prof. Dr. Christoph Oberprieler and in co-operation with Dr.
Robert Vogt (Botanic Garden & Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem)

The salary will be according the TV-L E13/2. The Ph.D. project will focus on the evolution of
polyploidy in the genus Leucanthemum (Compositae, Anthemideae) and will use this
genus of around 40 species distributed in southern and central Europe as a model
to investigate the genetic, genomic, biogeographical and ecological consequences
of polyploidy. Work packages envisaged will comprise (a) expression studies of
genes in diploid and polyploid members, (b) the phylogeography of species and
species groups of this genus, and (c) the taxonomical treatment of the genus in
S France and Italy based on morphological, cytological, and molecular evidence.
The project will complement a presently ongoing Ph.D. project dealing with the
phylogeny of the genus throughout its whole geographical range. The project will
include travelling throughout S Europe to collect plant material in natural
populations.
Deadline for application: May 15, 2011. If needed, the position will remain open
skills, presentations at scientific meetings, and publications (if applicable),
and (c) addresses of two academic advisors who could comment on your skills,
your dedication to science, and your ability to work cooperatively in a team.
