On THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19TH from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Loyola is hosting a mandatory meeting for parents of every grade level to discuss the perceptions and realities of alcohol and drugs that are pertinent to Loyola High School students and parents. In concert with FCD (Freedom from Chemical Dependence), Loyola counselors and administration will discuss the results of a Loyola student survey taken last spring as well as strategies to address ongoing concerns about alcohol abuse, increased access to marijuana, vaping culture, prescription drug abuse and more. As part of a continued effort to support the education of students about smart social choices, Loyola requires the attendance of at least one parent. Students whose parents do not attend or fail to make alternative arrangements to obtain the information will not be eligible to attend the Christmas dance or Junior/Senior prom. Loyola will be providing a workshop offering line-by-line instruction on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The workshop will be conducted in both Spanish and English by experienced presenters on Wednesday, October 18th from 7:00-9:00 PM. The Spanish presentation will be in Library Lecture Hall and the English presentation will be held in Otero Lecture Hall. All materials will be in Spanish and English. Loyola High alumnus Vincent Truong’12 was one of nine young men that recently entered the Jesuit West Province Novitiate in Culver City, CA. Mr. Truong graduated with a bachelor’s in psychology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2016. There, he led retreats and worked as an intern at the Newman center.]]>
Parent volunteers are needed for the High School Placement Test Prep Tutoring Program for 8th Graders (HSPT-8). There are six different sessions. Parents will be assigned to a classroom to supervise students from 8 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Volunteers must be VIRTUS-certified with the L.A. Archdiocese.
